[ At the command of Sri Rama, Vibheeshana escorts Sita to Rama's presence.]

sa uvācamahāparāmasasō.bhivādayapalavaṅagamaḥ .

rāmaṅvacanamarathajañōvaraṅsaravadhanuṣamatāma ।।6.117.1।।


mahāparājañaḥ highly learned, saḥpalavaṅagamaḥ that monkey, vacanamarathajañō meaningful, saravadhanuṣamatāma foremost among the wielders of bow, varama choicest, taṅrāmama Rama, abhivādaya greeted, uvāca spoke

Highly learned Hanuman greeted and spoke meaningfully to Rama, the foremost among the wielders of bow.
yananimitatō.yamāramabaḥkaramaṇāṅyaḥphalōdayaḥ .

tāṅdēvīṅśōkasanatapatāṅdaraṣaṭumarahasimaithilīma ।।6.117.2।।

dīraghamuṣaṇaṅviniḥśavasayajagatīmavalōkayana .

uvācamēghasaṅakāśaṅvibhīṣaṇamupasathitama ।।6.117.6।।


dīraghama long, uṣaṇama hot, viniḥśavasaya drawing breath, jagatīma on the world, avalōkayana looking at, upasathitama standing, mēghasaṅakāśama resembling a cloud in colour, vibhīṣaṇama Vibheeshana, uvāca spoke

Drawing a long hot breath, looking at the ground, he spoke to Vibheeshana, who was like a cloud standing there.
divayāṅagarāgāṅvaidēhīṅdivayābharaṇabhūṣitāma .

ihasītāṅśiraḥsanātāmupasathāpayamācirama ।।6.117.7।।

When Rama had spoken in that manner, Vibheeeshana for his part hastened to the Gynaeceum and assigned through the women to convey to Sita.
tatasasītāṅmahābhāgāṅdṛṣaṭavōvācavibhīṣaṇaḥ .

mūradhanibadadhāñajaliśarīmānavinītōrākaṣasēśavaraḥ ।।6.117.9।।


tataḥ then, śarīmāna prosperous, rākaṣasēśavaraḥLord of Rakshasas, vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, mahābhāgāma the noble, sītāma to Sita, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, vinītaḥ his head, mūradhaniḥ head, badadhāñajaliḥ with palms joined, uvāca spoke

Then Vibheeshana, the prosperous Lord of the Rakshasas seeing Sita greeted her with palms joined together lifted it over his head (as a sign of respect).
divayāṅagarāgāvaidēhīdivayābharaṇabhūṣitā .

yānamārōhabhadaraṅtēbharatātavāṅdaraṣaṭumicachati ।।6.117.10।।


vaidēhī Vaidehi, divayāṅagarāgā anointed with wonderful fragrance, divayābharaṇabhūṣitā decked with beautiful ornaments, yānama palanquin, ārōha ascending, tē you, bhadarama auspicious, bharatā husband, tavāma you, daraṣaṭuma to see, icachati desires

"Vaidehi! Anointed with a wonderful fragrance, decked with beautiful ornaments, auspicious and ascending the palanquin, your husband desires to see you."
ēvamukatātuvaidēhīparatayuvācavibhīṣaṇama .

asanātavādaraṣaṭumicachāmibharatāraṅrākaṣasēśavara ।।6.117.11।।


ēvama in that way, ukatā spoken, vaidēhī Vaidehi, vibhīṣaṇama to Vibheeshana, paratayuvāca replied, rākaṣasēśavara Lord of Rakshasas, asanātavā without bath, bharatārama husband, daraṣaṭuma see, icachāmi I desire

Vibheeshana, having spoken that way, Vaidehi said to the Lord of Rakshasas that she would like to see him without having a bath.
tasayāsatadavacanaṅśarutavāparatayuvācavibhīṣaṇaḥ .

yathāharāmōbhaharatātētatatathākaratumārahasimārahasi ।।6.117.12।।

bharatṛbhakatayāvṛtāsādhavītathētiparatayabhāṣata ।।6.117.13।।


patidēvatā husband as god, sādhavī noble, maithilī Mythili, tasaya her, tata that, vacanama words, śarutavā hearing, bharatṛbhakatayā in devotion, vṛtā adorned, tathēti alright, paratayabhāṣata replied in turn

Noble Mythili (on hearing Vibheeshana), who looked upon her husband as God, said in reply, 'Alright'.
tatasasītāṅśiraḥsanātāṅsaṅyukatāṅparatikaramaṇā .

mahārahābharaṇōpētāṅmahārahāmabaradhāriṇīma ।।6.117.14।।

ārōpayaśibikāṅdīpatāṅparāraghayāmabarasamavṛtāma .

rākaṣasairabhahubhiragupatāmājahāravibhīṣaṇaḥ ।।6.117.15।।


tataḥ thereafter, vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, śiraḥsanātāma head bath, paratikaramaṇā personal decoration, saṅyukatāma together, mahārahābharaṇōpētāma best of ornaments, mahārahāmabaradhāriṇīma wonderful clothes, sītāma Sita, dīpatāma glowing, parāraghayāmabarasaṅvṛtāma covered with wonderful clothes, bahubhiḥ numerous, rākaṣasaiḥ Rakshasas, gupatāma guarded by, śibikāma palanquin, ārōpaya ascended, ājahāra brought

Thereafter Vibheeshana, making Sita to ascend the palanquin, covered with valuable clothes and guarded by numerous Rakshasas after she adorned herself in the best of ornaments and put on glowing wonderful clothes brought to Rama.
sō.bhigamayamahātamānaṅjañātāvapidhayānamāsathitama .

paraṇataśacaparahṛṣaṭaśacaparāpatāṅsītāṅnayavēdayata ।।6.117.16।।


saḥ he, jañātavāpi after knowing, dayānama meditative mood, āsathitama absorbed in thought, mahātamānama great, abhigamaya having reached, paraṇataḥ ca greeting with folded palms, parahṛṣaṭaśaca full of joy, sītāma Sita, parāpatāma arrived, nayavēdayata announced

Knowing that Sita reached also, great Rama was seen in a meditative mood absorbed in thought. Vibheeshana announced saying, 'Sita has been brought' and greeted with folded palms, full of joy.
tāmāgatāmupaśarutayarakaṣōgṛhacirōṣitāma .

haraṣōdainayaṅca rōṣaśacatarayaṅrāghavamāviśata ।।6.117.17।।


rakaṣōgṛhacirōṣitāma stayed in Rakshasa's abode for long, tāma her, āgatāma reached, upaśarutaya having heard, rāghavama Raghava, haraṣaḥ joyful, dainayama indignation, rōṣaśaca anger, tarayama three, āviśata experienced

On hearing that Sita had arrived, who stayed in Rakshasa's abode for long, Raghava had experienced joy, indignation, and anger, all the three at the same time.
tataḥpāraśavagataṅdṛṣaṭavāsavimaraśaṅvicārayana .

vibhīṣaṇamidaṅvākayamahṛṣaṭōrāghavō.baravīta ।।6.117.18।।


tataḥ then, rāghavaḥRaghava, ahṛṣaṭaḥdistressed, savimaraśama analysing with in, vicārayana thinking, pāraśavagatama who had come near, vibhīṣaṇama Vibheeshana, dṛṣaṭavāseeing, idama these, vacaḥwords, abaravīta spoke

Raghava, analysed with in him, distressed and thinking deeply, seeing Vibheeshana close by, spoke these words.
rākaṣasādhipatēsaumayanitayaṅmadavijayērata .

vaidēhīsaṅnikaraṣaṅmēśīgharaṅsamupagacachatu ।।6.117.19।।


nitayama always, madavijayē my victory, rata sought, saumaya gentle, rākaṣasādhipatē Rakshasa king, vaidēhīVaidehi, śīgharama quickly, mē my, sananikaraṣama near, samupagacachatu let her be brought

"O gentle Vibheeshana, let Sita who sought my victory always be quickly brought near me."
tasayatadavacanaṅśarutavārāghavasayavibhīṣaṇaḥ .

tūraṇamutasāraṇaṅtatarakārayāmāsadharamavita ।।6.117.20।।

utasārayanatasatānayōdhānasamanatāta paricakaramuḥ ।।6.117.21।।


tatara then, kañacukōṣaṇīṣiṇaḥwearing coats and turbans, vētarararajarapāṇayaḥholding staffs in hand, tāna them, yōdhāna warriors, utasārayanataḥ dispersed, samanatāta all of them moved, paricakaramuḥstarted

Then those who were wearing coats and turbans, holding staffs in hand, warriors started moving and dispersed.
ṛkaṣāṇāṅvānarāṇāṅ ca rākaṣasānāṅ ca saravaśaḥ .

vṛnadānayutasārayamāṇānidūramutatasathuranatataḥ ।।6.117.22।।


ṛkaṣāṇāma Bears, vānarāṇāṅ ca Vanaras, rākaṣasānāṅ ca and Rakshasas, saravaśaḥall over, utasārayamāṇāni moving about, vṛnadāni hordes, anatataḥ vicinity, dūrama distance, utatasathuḥ driven

The hordes of Bears, Vanaras and Rakshasas moving about all over there were driven away to a distance from the vicinity.
tēṣāmutasārayamāṇānāṅniḥsavanaḥsumahānabhūta .

vāyunōdadhūyāmānasayasāgarasayēvaniḥsavanaḥ ।।6.117.23।।


tēṣāma their, utasārayamāṇānāma being driven, vāyunā wind, udadhūyamānasaya sound generated sāgarasaya ocean, niḥsavanaḥiva like the storm, sumahāna great, savanaḥ sound, abhūta heard

The great sound heard there was like the uproar of an ocean lashed by a storm.
utasārayamāṇāna dṛṣaṭavāthajagatayāṅjātasamabharamāna .

dākaṣiṇayātatadamaraṣācacavārayāmāsarāghavaḥ ।।6.117.24।।


atha now, rāghavaḥ Raghava, utasārayamāṇāna dispersing, jagatayāma moving, jātasamabharamāna excited to know, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, dākaṣiṇayāta out of kindness, amaraṣāta resented, tata that, vārayāmāsa stopped

Seeing them excited to know and dispersing, Raghava stopped them out of kindness.
saṅramabaśacābaravīdarāmaśacakaṣuṣāparadahananiva .

vibhīṣaṇaṅmahāparājañaṅsōpālamabamidaṅvacaḥ ।।6.117.25।।


rāmaḥ Rama, samarabadha: ca uproar, cakaṣuṣā with his gaze, paradahananiva exhibiting anger, mahāparājañama highly intelligent, vibhīṣaṇama Vibheeshana, sōpālamabhama resenting, idaṅvacaḥ these words, abaravīta spoke

Exhibiting anger with his gaze at the uproar, Rama addressed the highly intelligent Vibheeshana resenting their action.
kimarathaṅmāmanādṛtayakaliśayatē.yaṅtavayājanaḥ .

nivaratayainamudayōgaṅjanō.yaṅsavajanōmama ।।6.117.26।।


māma me, anādṛtaya without regard, tavayā you, ayaṅjanaḥ these people, kimarathama for what reason, kaliśayatē troubling, udayōgama this excitement, nivarataya stop, ayama this, janaḥpeople, mama my, savajanaḥown

"Why are these people being troubled without disregard for me? Stop this excitement. They are my own people."
na gṛhāṇi na vasatarāṇi na parākārāsatirasakariyā .

nēdṛśārājasatakārāvṛtatamāvaraṇaṅsatariyāḥ ।।6.117.27।।


satariyāḥ for women, gṛhāṇi houses, āvaraṇama boundary wall, na not, vasatarāṇi clothes, na not, parākārāḥ protective wall, na not, tirasakariyā screen of cloth, na not, īdṛśāḥ this kind of, rājasatakārāḥ royal treatment, na not, vṛtatama surrounded

"For women it is not the house, boundary wall or clothes or protective wall or screen of cloth or even this kind of royal treatment or surrounding, is the protection."
vayasanēṣu na kṛcacharēṣu na yudadhēṣusavayaṅvarē .

na karataunōvivāhēvādaraśanaṅdūṣayatēsatariyāḥ ।।6.117.28।।


vayasanēṣu in times of difficulty, satariyāḥ woman, daraśanama appearance, na dūṣayatē not condemned, kṛcacharēṣu in straits, yudadhēṣu in conflicts, savayaṅvarē in selection of spouse, na not, karatau sacrificial ceremony, na not, vivāhē vā marriage, na not

"The appearance of a woman in public is not condemned in times of difficulty, in straits, in conflicts, in the selection of a husband, or in sacrificial ceremonies or marriage ceremonies."
saiṣāvipadagatācaivakṛcacharēva ca mahatisathitā .

daraśanēnāsatidōṣō.sayāmatasamīpēviśēṣataḥ ।।6.117.29।।

samīpēmamavaidēhīṅpaśayanatavētēvanaukasaḥ ।।6.117.30।।


tasamāta therefore, śibikāma palanquin, visṛjaya leaving, padabhayāmēva on foot only, upasarapatu advance towards, ētē with the help of these, vanaukasaḥ Vanaras, mama my, samīpē presence, vaidēhīma Vaidehi, paśayanatu to see

"Therefore, leaving the palanquin let Vaidehi walk on foot only towards me with the help of these Vanaras."
ēvamukatasaturāmēṇasavimaraśōvibhīṣaṇama .

rāmasayōpānayasatītāṅsananikaraṣaṅvinītavata ।।6.117.31।।

niśamayavākayaṅrāmasayababhūvuravayathitābhṛśama ।।6.117.32।।


tataḥ thereupon, lakaṣamaṇasugarīvau Lakshmana and Sugriva, palavaṅagamaḥ monkey, hanūmāṅśaca Hanuman too, rāmasaya Rama's, vākayama statement, niśamaya astonished, bhṛśama highly, vayathitāḥdistressed, babhūvuḥ became

There upon Lakshmana, Sugriva, and Vanara Hanuman, astonished at Rama's statement, became highly distressed.
kalataranirapēkaṣaṣaiśacaiṅagitairasayadāruṇaiḥ .

aparītamivasītāyāṅtarakayanatisamarāghavama ।।6.117.33।।

Seeing Rama having no regard towards Sita, and his harsh gestures, Lakshmana and Sugriva discussed if Rama was displeased with Sita?
lajajayātavavalīyanatīsavēṣugātarēṣumaithilī .

vibhīṣaṇēnānugatābharatāraṅsābhayavaratata ।।6.117.34।।


sā he, maithilītu Mythili also, lajajayā modesty, savēṣu her own, gātarēṣu throat, avalīyanatī limbs shrinking, vibhīṣaṇēna by Vibheeshana, anugatā followed by, bharatārama husband, abhayavaratata approached

Mythili, also adopting modesty, shrinking into her own limbs, approached her husband followed by Vibheeshana.
visamayācachaparaharaṣācacasanēhācacapatidēvatā .

udaikaṣatamukhaṅbharatuḥsaumayaṅsaumayatarānanā ।।6.117.35।।


saumayatarānanā gentle lady, patidēvatā husband alone as god, visamayāśaca wondered, paraharaṣācaca joyful, sanēhācaca affectionately, bharatuḥ husband, saumayama gentle, mukama face, samudaikaṣata agreeable

Sita, a gentle lady, who considered her husband as God only wondered with a mixed feeling of joy and affection and looked at the gentle face of Rama.
athasamapanudanamanaḥkalamaṅsāsuciramadṛṣaṭamudīkaṣayavaipariyasaya .

vadanamuditacanadarapūraṇakānataṅvimalaśaśāṅakanibhānanātadānīma ।।6.117.36।।


atha now, vimalaśaśāṅakanibhānanā face like the bright moon without cloud, sā she, tadānīma at her, pariyasaya affectionately, sucirama for long, adṛṣaṭama not seen, uditacanadarapūraṇakānatama bright like the early morning sun, vadanama countenance, udīkaṣaya looking at, manaḥkalamama the sorrow in her mind, apanudata dispelled

She gazed affectionately at the face of her husband, whose countenance was bright like the early morning sun, which she had not seen for long. With the sorrow in her mind dispelled now, her face shone like the bright moon without cloud.
।। itayāraṣēvālamīkīyēśarīmadarāmāyaṇēādikāvayēyudadhakāṇaḍēsapatadaśōtataraśatatamasasaragaḥ ।।
This is the end of one hundred and seventeenth sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
