[Sri Rama lands at the hermitage of sage Bharadwaja and gets to know from him the wellbeing of his mothers, Bharata and Shatrughna.]

pūraṇēcaturadaśēvaraṣēpañacamayāṅlakaṣamaṇāgarajaḥ .

bharadavājāśaramaṅparāpayavavanadēniyatōmunima ।।6.127.1।।


caturadaśē fourteenth day, varaṣē year, pūraṇē full moon, pañacamayāma fifth day of the bright half of lunar month, lakaṣamaṇāgarajaḥ Lakshmana's elder brother, bharadavājāśaramama Bharadwaja's hermitage, parāpaya reached, niyataḥ subdued, munima sage, vavanadē offered salutations

After the fourteenth year of exile, on the fifth day of the bright half of lunar month Sri Rama and Lakshmana reached Bharadwaja's hermitage. They bent their heads down (as a mark of respect) and offered salutations.
sō.pṛcachadabhivādayainaṅbharadavājaṅtapōdhanama .

śṛṇōṣikacacidabhagavanasubhikaṣānāyamaṅpurē ।।6.127.2।।

kacacitasayukatōbharatōjīvanatayapi ca mātaraḥ .


bhagavana divine, saḥ he, ēnama having, tapōdhanama one who had asceticism for wealth, bharadavājama Bharadwaja, abhivādaya greeted, apṛcachata enquired, purē city, subhikaṣānāmayama good crops, śṛṇōṣikacacita heard indeed, saḥbharataḥ that Bharata, yukataḥkacacita active, mātaraḥ mothers, apijīvanati are doing well

Rama and Lakshmana having greeted sage Bharadwaja who had asceticism as his wealth, enquired, saying, "Have you heard that crops have been good, Bharata is active, and mothers are doing well in Ayodhya?"
ēvamukatasaturāmēṇabharadavājōmahāmuniḥ ।।6.127.3।।

paratayuvācaraghuśarēṣaṭhaṅsamitapūravaṅparahṛṣaṭavata .


rāmēṇa by Rama, ēvama in that way, ukataḥ spoken, mahāmuniḥ great sage, bharadavājaḥ Bharadwaja, parahṛṣaṭavata delighted, samitapūravama smiling look, raghuśarēṣaṭhama supreme of Raghus, paratayuvāca replied

When Rama had spoken that way to the great sage, Bharadwaja was delighted and with a smiling look replied.
paṅakadigadhasatubharatōjaṭilasatavāṅparatīkaṣatē ।।6.127.4।।

pādukatēpurasakṛtayasaravaṅ ca kuśalaṅgṛhē .


bharataḥ Bharata, paṅakadigadhaḥtu without attention to his body, jaṭilaḥ wearing matted locks, tē your, pādukē wooden sandals, purasakṛtaya placed in front, tāvama them, paratīkaṣatē expecting you, gṛhē in the house, saravaṅca and all, kuśalama are well

"Bharata is without attention to his body, wearing matted locks, placing your wooden sandals in front expecting you in the house. All is well at Ayodhya."
tavāṅpurācīravasanaṅparaviśanataṅmahāvanama ।।6.127.5।।

satarītṛtīyaṅcayutaṅrājayādadharamakāmaṅ ca kēvalama .

padātiṅtayakatasaravasavaṅpituravacanakāriṇama ।।6.127.6।।

saravabhōgaiḥparitayakataṅsavaragacayutamivāmarama .

dṛṣaṭātukaruṇāpūravaṅmamāsītasamitiñajayaḥ ।।6.127.7।।

kaikēyīvacanēyukataṅvanayamūlaphalāśinama .


samitiñajayaḥ one who is victorious in winning enemies, purā earlier, kaikēyīvacanē Kaikeyi's words, yukatama intent, satarītṛtīyama three of you with Sita, rājayāta from the kingdom, cayutama disinherited, kēvalama only, dharamakāmaṅ ca desiring only righteous, padātima on foot, tayakatasaravasavama giving up everything, pituravacanakāriṇama on account of father's word, saravabhōgaiḥ all possessions, paritayakatama giving up, savaragacayutama giving up heaven, amarama iva like heaven, nayamūlaphalāśinama living on roots and fruits, cīravasanama clad in bark saree, mahāvanama huge forest, paraviśanatama entered, tavāma you, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, pūravama earlier, mama my, karuṇā compassion, āsīta arose

"Rama! You, who are victorious in winning enemies, have earlier on account of father's words, intent on following father's words, accepting Kaikeyi's words, went with Lakshmana and Sita, clad in bark clothes, giving up kingdom and all possessions, like heaven set out on foot and entered huge forest, living on roots and fruits of the forest. Seeing you, compassion arose in me."
sāmaparataṅtusamṛdadhārathaṅsamitaragaṇabānadhavama ।।6.127.8।।

samīkaṣayavijitāriṅ ca samābhūparatītirutatamā .


sāmaparataṅtusamṛdadhārathama having completed the task and won the enemies, samitaragaṇabānadhavama with relatives and friends, vijitāriṅ after successful completion, samīkaṣaya see you, mama to me, utatamā very, parītiḥ happy, abhūta overcome

"I am happy to see you coming to me, who have completed the task and won the enemies and after successful completion, you are meeting relatives and friends."
saravaṅ ca sukhaduḥkhaṅtēviditaṅmamarāghava .

yatatavayāvipulaṅparāpataṅjanasathānanavadhādikama ।।6.127.9।।


rāghava Raghava, janasathānanava at Janasthana, dhadikama sojourning, tavayā by you, vipulama abundance, yata that which, sukhaduḥkhama joy and sorrow, parāpatama experienced, tē you, saravama all, mama my, viditama is known

"Raghava, while you were sojourning at Janasthana, you experienced joy and sorrow abundantly all that is known to me."
barāhamaṇārathēniyukatasayarakaṣataḥsaravatāpasāna .

rāvaṇēnahṛtābhārayābabhūvēyamanitā ।।6.127.10।।


barāhamaṇārathē brahmanas, niyukatasaya entrusted, saravatāpasāna all ascetics, rakaṣataḥ protecting, bhārayā wife, aninaditā irreproachable, iyama this, rāvaṇēna by Ravana, hṛtā abducted, babhūva known to me

"This irreproachable wife of yours was abducted by Ravana while you were engaged with the protection of all ascetics and entrusted with the care of brahmanas."
mārīcadaraśanaṅcaivasītōnamadhanamēva ca .

kabanadhadaraśanaṅcaivasamapābhigamanaṅtathā ।।6.127.11।।

sugarīvēṇa ca tēsakhayaṅyathāvālīhatasatavayā .

māragaṇaṅcaivavaidēhayāḥkaramavātātamajasaya ca ।।6.127.12।।

viditāyāṅ ca sītāyāṅnalasēturayathākṛtaḥ .

yathācādīpitālaṅakāparahṛṣaṭairahariyūthapaiḥ ।।6.127.13।।

saputarabānadavāmātayaḥsabalaḥsahāvāhanaḥ .

yathā ca nihataḥsaṅkhayērāvaṇōbaladarapitaḥ ।।6.127.14।।

yathā ca nihatētasamina rāvaṇēdēvakaṇaṭakē .

samāgamaśacataridaśairayathādatataśacatēvaraḥ ।।6.127.15।।

saravaṅmamaitadaviditaṅtapasādharamavatasala .

samapatanati ca mēśiṣayāḥparavṛtatākhayāḥpurīmitaḥ ।।6.127.16।।


dharamavatasala a lover of rightful duty, mārīcadaraśanaṅcaiva seen Maricha, sītōnamadhanamēva ca searching for Sita, kabanadadaraśanaṅcaiva appearance of Kabhanda, tathā so also, pamapābhigamanama going to Pampa, sugarīvēṇa with Sugriva, tē your, sakhayama friendship, tavayā by you, vālī Vali, yathā so also, hataḥ killing, vaidēhayāḥ Vaidehi, māragaṇama search for, vātātamajasaya by the son of wind god, karama action, vaidēhayāma Vaidehi, viditāyāma finding, nalasētuḥ Nalasethu bridge, yathā similarly, kṛtaḥ construction, parahṛṣaṭaiḥ delighted, hariyūthapaiḥ monkey troops, laṅakā Lanka, yathā so also, adīpitā set on fire, saputarabānadavāmātayaḥ sons and relatives, sahavāhanaḥ and vehicles, baladarapitaḥ proud, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, saṅakhayē army, yathā so also, nihataḥ killed, dēvakaṇaḍakē thorn in the eyes of gods, tasamina your, rāvaṇē Ravana, nihatē killing, taridaśaiḥ Brahma, all gods, samāgamaḥ coming together, yathā like that, tē you, varaḥ ca boon, yathā like that, datataśaca bestowing, ētata all this, saravama everything, mayā by me, tapasā through the power of penance, viditama is known, paravṛtatākhayāḥ lover of virtues, mēśiṣayāḥ my disciples, itaḥ here, purīma city, samapatanati communicated

"O, you are a lover of rightful duty, seeing Maricha, searching Sita, appearance of Kabhanda, your going to Pampa, making friendship with Sugriva, killing of Vali, searching for Vaidehi, finding of Sita by the son of wind god, and his action, setting fire to Lanka, finding of Nalasethu, construction of bridge, delighted Vanaras, destruction of sons, relatives and vehicles of Ravana's army, killing of Ravana who was a thorn in the eyes of god, coming of Brahma and gods, bestowing a boon and all that is known to me by the power of my penance. My disciples in Ayodhya communicated to me."
ahamapayadayatēdadamivaraṅśasatarabhṛtāṅvara .

araghayaṅparatigṛhāṇēdamayōdhayāṅśavōgamiṣayasi ।।6.127.17।।


śasatarabhṛtāma jewel among wielder of weapons, vara jewel, adaya now, ahamapi I am also, tē to you, varama boon, dadami bestow, idama this, araghayama water, paratigṛhāṇa after taking my blessings, śavaḥ you, ayōdhayāma to Ayodhya, gamiṣayasi proceed

"Jewel among the wielders of weapons! Now you take this water, and I shall bestow a boon to you. After taking my blessings you proceed to Ayodhya."
tasayatacachirasāvākayaṅparatigṛhayanṛpātamajaḥ .

bāḍhamitayēvasamahṛṣaṭaḥśarīmānavaramayācata ।।6.127.18।।


śarīmāna glorious, nṛpātamajaḥ son of emperor, samahṛṣaṭaḥ delighted, tasaya his, tata that, vākayama words, bāḍhama itayēva let you be auspicious, śirasā bending head in reverence, paratigṛhaya taking, varama boon, ayācataḥ requested

Glorious son of emperor obeying the words of Bharadwaja bending his head in reverence requested for that boon.
akālaphalinōvṛkaṣāsasaravēcāpimadhusaravāḥ .

phalānayamṛtaganadhīnibahūnivividhāni ca ।।6.127.19।।

bhavanatumāragēbhagavananayōdhayāṅparatigacachataḥ .


bhagavana divine sage, saravēcāpi all, vṛkaṣāḥ trees, akālaphalinaḥ unseasonal fruits, madhusaravāḥ sweet and juicy, bhavanatu you, amṛtaganadhīni tasting like nectar, bahūni many, vividhāni ca several kinds, phalāni fruits, ayōdhayāṅparati in Ayodhya, gacachataḥ proceeding, māragē way

"O divine sage! Let all the trees bear fruits out of season of several kinds of many sweet and juicy, tasting nectar appear on our way as we proceed to Ayodhya."
tathēti ca paratijañātēvacanātasamananatarama ।।6.127.20।।

abhavanapādapāsatatarasavaragapādapasananibhāḥ .


tathēti be it so, paratijañātē having promised, vacanāta words, samananatarama on all sides, tatara there, pādapāḥ trees, savaragapādapasananibhāḥ grew to be like heavenly trees, abhavana became

When Bharadwaja promised saying, 'Be it so' and the trees on all sides grew like heavenly trees.
puṣaphalāḥphalinaśacāsavanipuṣapāḥpuṣapaśālinaḥ ।।6.127.21।।

śuṣakāsasamagarapatarāsatēnagāśacaivamadhusaravāḥ .

saravatōyōjanāsatarisarōgacachatāmabhavaṅsatadā ।।6.127.22।।


tadā then, gacachatāma proceeding, tisataraḥ three, yōjanāḥ yojanas, saravataḥ all sides, nagāḥ trees, niṣaphalāḥ that did not have fruits, phalinaśaca started bearing fruits, vipuṣapāḥ which had no blossoms, puṣapaśālinaḥ full of blossoms, śuṣakāḥ dried, samagarapatarāśaca filled with leaves, madhusaravāḥ shed honey, abhavana became

"Then while we were proceeding for three yojanas on all sides the trees that did not have fruits started bearing fruits, trees that did not have blossoms started having blossoms and the trees that dried up developed leaves and began to shed honey."
tataḥparahṛṣaṭāḥpalavagaraṣabhāsatēbahūnidivayāniphalānicaiva .

kāmādupāśananatisahasaraśasatēmudāvanitāsasavaragajitōmudēva ।।6.127.23।।


tataḥ then, tēpalavagaraṣabhāḥ those bulls among vanaras, parahṛṣaṭāḥ delighted, savaragajitaḥ as if won the heaven, madēva thrilled, mudā very happy, avanitāḥ as they liked, bahūni many, divayāni wonderful, phalāni fruits, sahasaraśaḥ in thousands, kāmāta as per their desire, upāśananati felt joyful

Then those bulls among Vanaras were delighted as though they were in heaven. Thrilled and very happy at the wonderful fruits, they enjoyed them as they liked as per their desire and felt joyful.
।। itayāraṣēvālamīkīyēśarīmadarāmāyaṇēādikāvayēyudadhakāṇaḍēsapataviṅśatayutataraśatatamasasaragaḥ ।।
This is the end of one hundred and twenty seventh sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
