[Bharata requests Sri Rama to take over the kingdom. Celebration of Sri Rama's coronation on a grand scale. Sri Rama offers gifts to guests and bids farewell.]

śirasayañajalimādhāyakaikēyayānanadavaradhanaḥ .

babhāṣēbharatōjayēṣaṭhaṅrāmaṅsatayaparākaramama ।।6.131.1।।


kaikēyayānanadavaradhanaḥ enhancer of Kaikeyi's joy, bharataḥ Bharata, śirasi head, añajalima folded hands, ādhāya submitted, satayaparākaramama unfailing valour, jayēṣaṭhama to elder, rāmama Rama, babhāṣē spoke

Bharata, the enhancer of Kaikeyi's joy, of unfailing valour, with folded palms on head submitted to his elder brother.
pūjitāmāmikāmātādatataṅrājayamidaṅmama .

tadadadāmipunasatubhayaṅyathātavamadadāmama ।।6.131.2।।


māmikā mine, mātā mother, pūjitā worshipped, idaṅrājayama this kingdom, mama myself, datatama bestowed, tata that, tavama to you, mama me, yathā as it is, ādadāḥ returning, punaḥ again, tubhayama and now, dadāmi giving

"This kingdom was bestowed on me and my mother. I return it back to you now again."
dhuramēkākinānayasatāṅvṛṣabhēṇabalīyasā .

kiśōravadaguruṅbhāraṅ na vōḍhumahamutasahē ।।6.131.3।।


balīyasā strong, ēkākinā alone, vṛṣabhēṇa young ox, nayasatāma transferred to, dhurama burden, kiśōravata like young, guruma heavy, bhārama burden, ahama I, vōḍhuma bull, na utasahē not able to bear

"I am not able to bear the heavy burden transferred to me any more like a young ox can't bear like a bull.
vārivēgēnamahatābhinanasasēturivakaṣarana .

durabanadhanamidaṅmanayērājayacacharidamasamavṛtama ।।6.131.4।।

"If the kingdom containing vulnerable points is not protected on all sides, it can't stand, just as a strong rush of water can be prevented from breach only by constructing a dam.
gatiṅkharaivāśavasayahaṅsasayēva ca vāyasaḥ .

nānavētumutasahērāma tavamāragamarinadama ।।6.131.5।।


kharaivā like donkey, gatiṅ not go, śavasaya horse, haṅsasayēva ca and like swan ca vāyasaḥ crow not run, arinadama tormentor of enemies, tava your, māragama way, anavētuma, rāma Rama, na utasahē not able to nānavētu like you

"O Rama! Donkey can't run like horse; crow can't run like swan. I am not able to bear the burden of kingdom like you, O tormentor of enemies."
yathācārōpitōvṛkaṣōjātaśacārananativēśanē .

mahāṅśacasudurārōhōmahāsakanadaḥparaśākhavāna ।।6.131.6।।

śīrayētapuṣapitōbhūtavā na phalāniparadaraśayana .

tasayanānubhavēdarathaṅyasayahētōsasarōpitaḥ ।।6.131.7।।

ēṣōpamāmahābāhōtavamarathaṅvētatumarahasi .

yadayasamānamanujēnadaratavaṅbharatābhṛtayānanaśādhihi ।।6.131.8।।

"If for example you have planted a tree in your own house, it becomes huge and difficult to climb in spite of a large trunk, many branches and after flowering does not yield fruits and is withered, the person who planted will not enjoy the fruit. In that way O mighty armed Rama, you are the ruler of the people, if you would not take care of us, your dependants, I solicit you ought to understand what I mean.
jagadadayābhiṣikataṅtavāmanupaśayaturāghava .

paratapanatamivāditayaṅmadhayāhanēdīpatatējasama ।।6.131.9।।

"Raghava, let you be consecrated in the afternoon and the world will see you dazzling in brilliance like the sun today."
tūrayasaṅaghānatiraghōṣaiḥkāñacīnūpuraniḥsavanaiḥ .

madhurairagītaśabadaiśacaparatibudhayasavaśēṣava ca ।।6.131.10।।


tūrayasaṅaghānatiraghōṣaiḥ sounds of musical instruments, kāñacīnūpuraniḥsavanaiḥ tinkling of ornaments strung with tiny bells, madhuraiḥ sweet, gītaśabadaiśaca sounds of singing, paratibudhayasava worn around waist and anklets, śēṣava ca and sweet

May you wake up to the sounds of musical instruments and the tinkling of ornaments worn around the waist and anklets and sweet sounds of singing.
yāvadāvaratatēcakaraṅyāvatī ca vasunadharā .

tāvatatavamihalōkasayasavāmitavamanuvarataya ।।6.131.11।।


cakarama stellar sphere, yāvata as long as, āvaratatē goes round, vasunadharā earth, yāvata that long, tāvata till then, iha here, lōkasaya in the world, savāmitavama rulership, anuvarataya revolves

As long as the stellar sphere goes round, and as long as the earth revolves around that long you enjoy the rulership of the world."
bharatasayavacaśarutavārāmaḥparapurañajayaḥ .

tathētiparatijagarāhaniṣasādāsanēśubhē ।।6.131.12।।


parapurañajayaḥ conqueror of enemies, rāmaḥ Rama, bharatasaya Bharata's, vacaḥ words, śarutavā hearing, tathēti be it so, paratijagarāha replied, śubhē auspicious, āsanē seat, niṣaṣāda seated

Hearing Bharata's words, the conqueror of enemies, Rama said 'Be it so'. Then Bharata took the auspicious seat.
tataśaśatarughanavacanānanipuṇāḥśamaśaruvaradhanāḥ .

sukhahasatāḥsuśīgharāśacarāghavaṅparayavārayana ।।6.131.13।।


tataḥ then, śatarughanavacanāta Shatrughna's words, nipuṇāḥ expert, sukhahasatāḥ skilled at hand, suśīgharāśaca hastily, śamaśaruvaradhanāḥ soft skilled, rāghavama Raghava, parayavārayana surrounded

pūravama first, bharatē Bharata, sanātē had bath, mahābalē mighty, lakaṣamaṇē ca Lakshmana also, vānarēnadarē Vanara king, sugarīvē Sugriva, rākaṣasēnadarē Rakshasa king, vibhīṣaṇē Vibheeshana, viśōdhitajaṭaḥ removed the matted hair, sanātaḥ had bath, citaramālayānulēpanaḥ adorned with colourful garlands and daubed with sandal paste, mahārahavasanōpētaḥ clothed in exquisite robes, tatara then, śariyā shining, javalana glowing, tasathau stood

Bharata had his bath first, and mighty Lakshmana, Sugriva the monkey king, and Vibheeshana the Rakshasa king followed him. Sri Rama removed the matted hair, had bath, adorned with colourful garlands, and daubed with sandal paste and clothed in exquisite robes stood glowing and shining.
paratikarama ca rāmasayakārayāmāsavīrayavāna .

lakaṣamaṇasaya ca lakaṣamīvānikaṣavākukulavaradhanaḥ ।।6.131.16।।


vīrayavāna valiant, lakaṣamīvāna prosperous, ikaṣavākukulavaradhanaḥ enhancer of the glory of Ikshvaku race, rāmasaya Rama's, lakaṣamaṇasaya ca and Lakshmana's, paratikarama decorated, kārayāmāsa did

Then valiant and prosperous, Shatrughna, who is an enhancer of the glory of Ikshvaku race decorated Sri Rama and Lakshmana (duly with ornaments).
paratikaramacasītāyāsasaravādaśarathasatariyaḥ .

ātamanaivatadācakaruramanasavinayōmanōharama ।।6.131.17।।


tadā then, saravāḥ all, manasavinayaḥ noble-minded, daśarathasatariyaḥ Dasharatha's wives, sītāyāḥ for Sita, manōharama beautiful, paratikarama decoration, ātamanaiva themselves, cakaruḥ did

Then all the noble-minded Dasharatha's wives themselves decorated Sita beautifully.
tatōvānarapatanīnāṅsaravāsāmēvaśōbhanama .

cakārayatanātakausalayāparahṛṣaṭāputaravatasalā ।।6.131.18।।


tataḥ then, parahṛṣaṭāḥ very delighted, putaravatasalā lover of her sons, kausalayā Kausalya, saravāsāma all, vānarapatanīnāma for the wives of Vanaras, yatanāta took effort, śōbhanama in splendid manner to decorate, cakāra started

The very delighted Kausalya, lover of her sons started making effort to decorate the wives of all Vanaras in a splendid manner.
tata: śaśatarughanavacanātasumanatarōnāmasārathiḥ .

yōjayitavābhicakarāmarathaṅsaravāṅagaśōbhanama ।।6.131.19।।


tataḥ then, sumanatarōnāma named Sumantra, sārathiḥcharioteer, śatarughanavacanāta by the command of Shatrughna, saravāṅagaśōbhanama all parts of the body, rathama chariot, yōjayitavā yoked, abhicakarāma came there

Then Sumantra the charioteer, commanded by Shatrughna came there with all parts of the chariot decorated and yoked.
arakamaṇaḍalasaṅakāśaṅdivayaṅdṛṣaṭavārathaṅsathitama .

ārurōhamahābāhūrāmaḥparapuraṅñajayaḥ ।।6.131.20।।


arakamaṇaḍalasaṅakāśama like the radiance of the planet sun, sathitama stood, divayama wonderful, rathama chariot, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, mahābāhuḥ mighty armed, parapuraṅñajayaḥ the conqueror of hostile enemies, rāmaḥ Rama, ārurōha ascended

Seeing the wonderful chariot like the radiance of the planet sun, mighty armed Rama the conqueror of hostile enemies ascended.
sugarīvōhanumāṅśacaivamahēnadarasadṛśadayutī .

sanātaudivayanibhairavasatarairajagamatuśaśubhakuṇaḍalau ।।6.131.21।।


mahēnadarasadṛśadayutī vied with Mahendra in splendour, sugarīvaḥ Sugriva, hanumāṅśacaiva even Hanuman, sanātau having bathed, śubhakuṇaḍalau wearing sparkling earrings, divayanibhaiḥ heavenly, vasataraḥ clothes, jagamatuḥ started

Sugriva and Hanuman having bathed wore sparkling earrings, clothed in heavenly robes vied with Mahendra in splendour, started.
saravābharaṇajuṣaṭāśacayuyusataśaśubhakuṇaḍalāḥ .

sugarīvapatanayaḥsītā ca daraṣaṭuṅnagaramutasukāḥ ।।6.131.22।।


tāḥ they, sugarīvapatanayāḥ Sugriva's wife, sītā ca and Sita, saravābharaṇajuṣaṭāḥ wearing all kinds of ornaments, śubhakuṇaḍalāḥ auspicious earrings, nagarama city, daraṣaṭuma to see, utasukāḥ enthused, yayuḥ departed

Sugriva's wife and Sita decked with all kinds of ornaments and earrings, enthused to see the city, started.
ayōdhayāyāṅtusacivārājañōdaśarathasaya ca .

purōhitaṅpurasakṛtayamanatarayāmāsurarathavata ।।6.131.23।।


ayōdhayāyātu at Ayodhya also rājañaḥ king, daśarathasaya Dasharatha's, sacivāḥ ministers, purōhitama priests, purasakṛtaya started, arathavata to Vasishta, manatarayāmāsuḥ thought of the required arrangements

At Ayodhya also, king Dasharatha's ministers, priests started to Vasishta and thought of the required arrangements.
aśōkōvijayaśacaivasidadhārathaśacasamāhitāḥ .

manatarayanarāmavṛdhayarathaṅbudhayarathaṅnagarasaya ca ।।6.131.24।।


aśōkaḥ Ashoka, vijayaśacaiva Vijaya, sidadhārathaśaca Siddhartha, samāhitāḥ collected, rāmavṛdadhayarathama for the growth of Rama, nagarasaya and city, budadayarathama consulting, manatarayana thought of

Ashoka, Vijaya, Siddhartha, collected together and started consulting with each other for the growth of Rama and the City.
saravamēvābhiṣēkārathaṅjayārahasayamahātamanaḥ .

karatumarahatharāmasayayadayanamaṅagalapūravakama ।।6.131.25।।


jayārahasaya for the success, mahātamanaḥ of great soul, rāmasaya Rama's, abhiṣēkārathama for the consecration, yadayata Whatever, saravama all, maṅagalapūravakama auspicious, karatuma to do, arahatha who deserves

For the success of the great soul Rama's consecration, whatever was auspicious, all that ought to be done as he deserves.
ititēmanatariṇasasaravēsanadiśaya ca purōhitama .

nagarānanirayayusatūraṇaṅrāmadaraśanabudadhayaḥ ।।6.131.26।।


tē they, saravē all, mataraniṇaḥministers, purōhitama priests, iti thus, sanadiśaya communicating, rāmadaraśanabudadhayaḥ for having a glance of Rama, tūraṇama speedily, nagarāta from the city, nirayayuḥ set forth

All those ministers, priests thus communicating with each other, speedily set forth to have a glance at Sri Rama.
hariyukataṅsahasarākaṣōrathaminadaraivānaghaḥ .

parayayaurathamāsathāyarāmōnagaramutatamama ।।6.131.27।।


sahasarākaṣaḥ thousand eyed, inadaraḥ Indra, hariyukatama green horses, rathamiva chariot like, anaghaḥ sinless, rāmaḥ Rama, utatamama excellent, rathama chariot, āsathāya seated, nagarama to the city, parayayau departed

Like the thousand eyed Indra seated in the excellent chariot yoked to green horses, the sinless Rama departed to the city.
jagarāhabharatōramaśīnaśatarughanaśacataramādadē .

lakaṣamaṇōvayajanaṅtasayamūradhanisamaparayavījayata ।।6.131.28।।

śavētaṅ ca vālavayajanaṅjagṛhēparitasasathitaḥ .

aparaṅcanadarasaṅakāśaṅrākaṣasēnadarōvibhīṣaṇaḥ ।।6.131.29।।


bharataḥ Bharata, ramaśīna reins, jagarāha took hold, śatarughanaḥ Shatrughna, chatarama parasol, tasaya his, mūradhani in front, ādadē took, lakaṣamaṇaḥ Lakshmana, vayajanama fan, samaparayavījayata for fanning, paritaḥ held, sathitaḥ stood, rākaṣasēnadaraḥ Rakshasa king, vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, canadarasaṅakāśama like the moon, śavētama white, aparama whisk, vālavayajanama for driving the air, jagṛhē took hold

Bharata held the reins, Shatrughna took hold of the parasol, Lakshmana standing in front held the fan, and the Rakshasa king Vibheeshana held a white whisk which was like a moon for driving the air.
ṛṣisaṅaghaisatadākāśēdēvaiśacasamarudagaṇaiḥ .

satūyamāsayarāmasayaśuśaruvamadhuradhavaniḥ ।।6.131.30।।


tadā then, rāmasaya Rama's, ṛṣisaṅaghaiḥ host of sages, samarudagaṇaiḥ Rudras, dēvaiśaca gods, ākāśē in the sky, satūyamānasaya started praising, madhuradhavaniḥ sweet sounding, śuśaruvē heard.

Then the host of sages, Rudras and gods from the heaven started praising Rama with sweet sounding chanting.
tataḥśataruñajayaṅnāmakuñajaraṅparavatōpamama .

ārurōhamahātējāsasugarīvaḥpalavagaraṣabhaḥ ।।6.131.31।।


tataḥ then, palavagaraṣabhaḥ bull among monkeys, mahātējāḥ resplendent, sugarīvaḥ Sugriva, śataruñajayaṅnāma Satrumjaya by name, paravatōpamama like a mountain, kuñajarama elephant, ārurōha ascended

Then resplendent Sugriva, the bull among Vanaras, ascended the mountain like elephant by the name Satrumjaya.
navanāgasahasarāṇiyayurāsathāyavānarāḥ .

mānuṣaṅvigarahaṅkṛtavāsaravābharaṇabhūṣitāḥ ।।6.131.32।।


vānarāḥ Vanara, mānuṣama human, vigarahama semblance, kṛtavā assuming, saravābharaṇabhūṣitāḥ adorned with ornaments, navanāgasahasarāṇi nine thousand elephants, āsathāya ascended, yayuḥ departed

Assuming human semblance, the Vanaras adorned with ornaments ascended nine thousand elephants and departed.
śaṅakhaśabadaparaṇādaiśacadunadubhīnāṅ ca nisasavanaiḥ .

parayayaupuruṣavayāgharasatāṅpurīṅharamayamālinīma ।।6.131.33।।


puruṣavayāgharaḥ tiger among men, śaṅakhaśabadaparaṇādaiśaca sound of blasts of conches and shouts, dunadubhīnāma roll of drums, niḥsavanaiḥ ca making noise, haramayamālinīma rows of mansions, tāṅpurīma that city, parayayau went

Sri Rama the tiger among men went accompanied by sounds of blasts of conches and shouts and roll of drums along the rows of mansions in the city.
dadṛśusatēsamāyānataṅrāghavaṅsapurasasarama .

virājamānaṅvapuṣārathēnātirathaṅtadā ।।6.131.34।।


tadā then, tē they, sapuraḥsarama having gone to Ayodhya, vapuṣā god, virājamānama shining brightly, rathēna by chariot, samāyānatama coming with all in accordance with tradition, atirathama great car warrior, rāghavama Raghava, dadṛśuḥ saw

Then they saw all those who had gone to Ayodhya coming in advance in accordance with tradition, to receive Rama, the great car warrior, who was shining brightly advancing by the chariot.
tēvarathayitavākākutasathaṅrāmēṇaparatinanaditāḥ .

anujagamuramahātamānaṅbharātṛbhiḥparivāritama ।।6.131.35।।


tē they, kākutasathama Kakuthsa, varadhayitavāblessing, rāmēṇa Rama, paratinanaditāḥ in turn very happily responded, bharātṛbhiḥ brothers also, parivāritama surrounded, mahātamānama great, anujagamuḥfollowed

amātayairabarāhamaṇaiśacaivatathāparakṛtibhiravavṛtaḥ .

śariyāvirurucērāmōnakaṣatararivacanadaramāḥ ।।6.131.36।।


amātayaiḥ ministers, barāhamaṇaiśacaiva brahmins, tathā so also, parakṛtibhiḥ common people, vṛtaḥ surrounded, rāmaḥ Rama, nakaṣataraiḥ star, canadaramāḥiva like moon, śariyā glorious, virurucē shone brightly.

Surrounded by ministers, brahmins and common people, glorious Rama shone brightly like the moon surrounded by stars.
sa purōgāmibhisatūrayaisatālasavasatikapāṇibhiḥ .

paravayāharadabhiramuditairamaṅagalānivṛtōyayau ।।6.131.37।।


saḥ he, purōgāmibhiḥ went forward, tūrayaiḥ bands, tālasavasatikapāṇibhiḥ with trumpets, wooden cymbals and swastikas, maṅagalāni auspicious, paravayāharadabhiḥ singing festive songs, muditaiḥ very happily, vṛtaḥ covered, yayau went

He went forward surrounded by bands, trumpets, wooden cymbals and swastikas and very happily singing auspicious festive songs.
akaṣataṅjātarūpaṅ ca gāvaḥkanayāsasahadavijāḥ .

narāmōdakahasatāśacarāmasayapuratōyayuḥ ।।6.131.38।।


akaṣatama yellow rice jātarūpaṅ ca appearing like gold, gāvaḥ cows, kanayāḥ virgin women, sahadavijāḥ with brahmins, mōdakahasatāḥ with Modakas in hand, narāḥ men, rāmasaya Rama's, purataḥ before, yayuḥ went

Taking yellow rice (rice smeared with turmeric) appearing like gold, cows, virgin women, brahmins with Modakas in hand went before Rama.
sakhayaṅ ca rāmasasugarīvēparabhāvaṅcānilātamajē .

vānarāṇāṅ ca tatakaramahayācacakaṣē।।thamanatariṇāma ।।6.131.39।।

śarutavā ca visamayaṅjagamurayōdhayāpuravāsinaḥ .

vānarāṇāṅ ca tatakaramarākaṣasānāṅ ca tadabalama ।।6.131.40।।

Hearing about the action of Vanaras and the strength of Rakshasas, the citizens of Ayodhya were astonished.
vibhīṣaṇasayasamayōgamācacakaṣē.thamanatariṇāma .

dayutimānētadākhayāyarāmōvānarasamayutaḥ ।।6.131.41।।

hṛṣaṭapuṣaṭajanākīraṇamayōdhayāṅparavivēśasaḥ .

Sri Rama narrated about Vibheeshana's friendship to the ministers. Splendorous Rama then entered Ayodhya filled with very happy people accompanied by Vanaras.
tatōhayabhayucacharayanapaurāḥpatākāśacagṛhēgṛhē ।।6.131.42।।

aikaṣavākudhayuṣitaṅramayamāsasādapituragṛhama .


tataḥ thereupon, paurāḥ citizens, gṛhēgṛhē every house, patākāḥ flag, abhayucacharayana lifted up and held, aikaṣavākādhayuṣitama abode of Ikshvaku dynasty, pituḥ father, ramayama beautiful, gṛhama home, āsasāda reached.

The citizens of Ayodhya held the flags up in every house. Thereupon Rama reached the beautiful home of his father, the abode of the Ikshvaku dynasty.
athābaravīdarājaputarōbharataṅdharamiṇāṅvarama ।।6.131.43।।

aradhōpahitayāvācāmadhuraṅraghunanadanaḥ .

piturabhavanamāsādayaparaviśaya ca mahātamanaḥ ।।6.131.44।।

kausalayāṅ ca sumitarāṅ ca kaikēyīmabhivādaya ca .

In the past, Manu was consecrated with a crown encrusted with gems crafted by Brahma and it was adorned at consecration by successive kings. After the consecration, Rama was dazzling seated on a throne made of several kinds of gems as per tradition. The council hall was also made of gold with charming pictures and looked splendid. The great soul Raghava was crowned and adorned with ornaments by Vasishta and the priests.

Sita you may give the chain to one in whom you always found to have brilliance, determination, fame, dexterity, capacity, modesty, prudence, virility, prowess, and intelligence always.
