[ Indrajith objects Vibheeshana's advice. Vibheeshana replies Indrajith. ]

bṛhaspatēstulyamatērvacastanniśamyayatnēnavibhīṣaṇasya .

tatōmahātmāvacanaṅbabhāṣētatrēndrajinnairṛtayūthamukhyaḥ ।।6.15.1।।


bṛhastatēḥ like Brhaspathi, tulyamatēḥ highly intelligent, vibhīṣaṇasya: Vibheeshana's, tat those, vacaḥ words, yatnēna: with restraint, niśamya: beholding, tataḥ there, mahātmā: great soul, nairṛtayōthamukhyaḥ the leader of Rakshasa army, indrajit Indrajith, tatra: there, vacanam words, babhāṣē: spoke.

Thus spoke Indrajith, the great leader of the Rakshasa army, having heard the words spoken by the highly intelligent Vibheeshana who was equal to Brhaspathi in wisdom.
kiṅnāmatētātakaniṣṭhavākyamanarthakaṅcēvēsubasubhītavacca .

asminkulēyō.pibhavēnnajātassō.pīdṛśaṅnaivavadēnnakuryāt ।।6.15.2।।


kaniṣṭhatāta: father's younger brother (uncle), kiṅnāma: What a statement, tē: by you, vākyam words, anarthakam meaningless, subhītavacca: frightened, yaḥ such, asminakulē: in this race, jātaḥ born, na: not, bhavēt What you said, sōpi: unbecoming, īdṛśam such words, naivavadēt will not speak, nakuryāt not do.

"What a meaningless statement you made uncle, being frightened? One who is not born in our race also would not have said such unbecoming words uttered by you (nor do such unbecoming acts)?"
sattvēnavīryēṇaparākramēṇaśauryēṇadhairyēṇacatējasāca .

ēkaḥkulē.sminpuruṣōvimuktōvibhīṣaṇastātakaniṣṭhaēṣaḥ ।।6.15.3।।


asmin in this, kulē: race, ēṣaḥ that way, tātakaniṣṭha: younger father, vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, ēkaḥ alone, sattvēna: in strength, vīryēṇa: in valour, parākramēṇa: in prowess, dhairyēṇa: courage, śauryēṇa: heroism, tējasāca: and boldness, vimuktāḥ devoid of, puruṣaḥ man.

"In this race, alone younger father Vibheeshana is devoid of strength, valour, prowess, heroism, courage and boldness."
kiṅnāmataumānuṣarājaputrāvasmākamēkēnahirākṣasēna .

suprākṛtēnāpiraṇēnihantumētauśakyaukutōbhīṣayasēsmabhīrō ।।6.15.4।।


tau: those two, mānuṣarājaputrā: sons of king of men, kiṅnāma: why do you, ētau: at them, asmākam from among us, suprākṛtēnāpi: one who is ordinary, ēkēna: alone, rākṣasēna: by Rakshasas, raṇē: in war, nihantum would kill, śakyau: possible, bhīrō: timid, kutaḥ doing, bhīṣayasē: making to fear.

"Those two sons of the king of men could be killed in war by an ordinary Rakshasa among us single handed. O timid one! Why are you scaring us?"
trilōkanāthōnanudēvarājaśśakrōmayābhūmitalēniviṣṭaḥ .

bhayārpitāścāpidiśaḥprapannāssarvētathādēvagaṇāssamagrāḥ ।।6.15.5।।


tadā: at one time, trilōkanāthaḥ Lord of the three worlds, śakraḥ Indra, dēvarājaḥ king of gods, tathā: that way, bhūmitalē: on the ground, niviṣṭaḥ cast down, sarvē: all, dēvagaṇāḥ Devatas groups, bhayārpitāścāpi: and scared of, samagrāḥ entire, diśaḥ direction, prapannāḥ fled.

"I have cast down on the ground, Indra, the Lord of gods and of three worlds. At one time all the gods in groups fled in all directions scared of me."
airāvatōvisvaramunnadan sanipātitōbhūmitalēmayātu .

vikṛṣyadantautumayāprasahyavitrāsitādēvagaṇāssamagrāḥ ।।6.15.6।।


visvaram making noise, unnadan coming towards, saḥ that, airāvataḥ Airavata elephant, mayā: by me, bhūmitalēnipātitaḥ pushed down, prasahya: violently, dantau: tusks, vikṛṣya: pulled down, mayā: by me, samagrāḥ entire, dēvagaṇāḥ group of gods, vitrāsitāḥ chased them.

"I pushed down the elephant Airavata coming towards me making noise, pulled down its tusks forcibly and chased the entire group of gods."
sō.haṅsurāṇāmapidarpahantādaityōttamānāmapiśōkadātā .

kathaṅnarēndrātmajayōrnaśaktōmanuṣyayōḥprākṛtayōssuvīryaḥ ।।6.15.7।।


surāṇāmapi even Devendra, darpahantā crushed down the arrogance, daityōttamānāmapi even the leaders of Rakshasas, śōkadātā: will cause grief, suvīryaḥ such a valorous one, saḥaham that I am, prākṛtayōḥ ordinary people, manuṣyayōḥ human beings, narēndrātmajayōḥ sons of kings, katham how, naśaktaḥ not possible.

"I am such a valiant one who crushed the arrogance of even the king of gods, Devendra. I can put even the Rakshasa leaders to grief. How is it not possible for me to do away the sons of kings who are ordinary human beings."
athēndrakalpasyadurāsadasyamahaujasastadvacanaṅniśamya .

tatōmahārthavacanaṅbabhāṣēvibhīṣaṇaśśastrabhṛtāṅvariṣṭhaḥ ।।6.15.8।।


atha: and then, indrakalpasya: one who is equal to Indra, durāsadasya: dangerous one, mahaujasaḥ foremost of the warriors, tat vacanam those words, niśamya: observing, śastrabhṛtām among the wielders of weapons, variṣṭhaḥ great, vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, tataḥ that, mahārtham highly beneficial advice, vacanam babhāṣē: these words spoke.

Vibheeshana, the best among wielders of weapons, spoke the following words of highly beneficial advice after hearing the words of dangerous Indrajith, the foremost of the warriors.
natātamantrētavaniścayō.stibālastvamadyāpyavipakvabuddhi: .

tasmāttvayāpyātmavināśanāyavacō.rdhahīnaṅbahuvipralaptam ।।6.15.9।।


tāta: dear, tava: your, mantrē: in decision making, niścayaḥ settlement, nāsti: not having, bālaḥ being a boy, tvam you, adyāpi: even now, avipakvabuddhi: you are not mature, tasmāt therefore, tvayāpi: by you too, ātmavināśanāya: self destructive, arthahīnam devoid of any sense, bahu: all, vacaḥ words, vipralaptam incoherently.

"O dear ! You have no capacity for decision making. You are young and not mature. Therefore, you are talking incoherently without any sense which is self-destructive."
putrapravādēvaturāvaṇasyatvamindrajinmitramukhō.siśatruḥ .

yasyēdṛśaṅrāghavatōvināśaṅniśamyamōhādanumanyasētvam ।।6.15.10।।


indrajit Indrajith, rāghavataḥ from Raghava, yasya: his, īdṛśam this kind of, vināśam destruction, niśamya: on hearing, mōhāt out of delusion, tvam you, anumanyasē: accepting, rāvaṇasya: Ravana's, putrapravādēna: calling yourself son of, mitramukhaḥ like friend, śatruḥ foe, asi: you are.

"Indrajith! Though you are calling yourself as the son of Ravana and pretending to be a friend, you are his foe. Even after hearing about the kind of destruction (of Ravana, his kingdom etc.) from Rama, out of delusion you are accepting (with Ravana)."
tvamēvavadhyaścasudurmatiścasacāpivadhyōyaihā.nayattvām .

bālaṅdṛḍhaṅsāhasikaṅcayō.dyaprāvēśayanmantrakṛtāṅsamīpam ।।6.15.11।।


tvamēva: you yourself, vadhyaśca: deserved to be killed, bālam young, dṛḍham determined, susāhasikaṅ: one who loves to make bold attempt, tvam you, yaḥ whoever, iha: here, ānayat brought you, mantrakṛtām polluting your thought, samīpam here, adya: now, prāvēśayat made to enter, sudurmatiḥ evil minded, saḥ he ca: and.

"You who are evil minded, deserve to be killed. The one who brought you here is young and loves you to make bold attempts. He is polluting your mind and deserves to be killed."
mūḍhō.pragalbhō.vinayōpapannastīkṣaṇasvabhāvō.lpamatirdurātmā .

mūrkhastvamatyarthasudurmatiścatvamindrajidbālatayābravīṣi ।।6.15.12।।


indrajit Indrajith, tvam your, mūḍhaḥ foolish one, apragalbhaḥ one who boasts himself, avinayōpapannaḥ lack obedience, tīkṣaṇasvabhāvaḥ wicked nature, alpamatiḥ of poor intellect, durātmā: cruel, mūrkhaḥ ignorant, atyarthasudurmatiśca: extremely evil minded, tvam you are, bālatayā: like a child, bravīṣi: spoken.

"Indrajith! You are foolish and boasting yourself. You lack obedience. You are wicked by nature, cruel, poor in intellect, extremely evil minded, ignorant and have spoken like a child."
kōbrahmadaṇḍapratimaprakāśānarciṣmataḥkālanikāśarūpān .

sahētabāṇānyamadaṇḍakalpānsamakṣamuktānyudhirāghavēṇa ।।6.15.13।।


yudhi: in combat, rāghavēṇa: with Raghava, samakṣamuktān released in the presence, brahmadaṇḍapratimaprakāśān resembling the shaft of Brahma in splendour, arciṣmataḥ flames of fire, kālanikāśarūpān resembling like death, yumadaṇḍakalpān of the form of Lord of death 's shaft, bāṇān arrows, kaḥ who, sahētā: can bear.

"Who can bear the arrows released by Rama in combat, which resembles the shaft of Brahma in splendour and flames of fire resembling death and equal to the shaft of the Lord of death?"
dhanāniratnānisubhūṣaṇānivāsāṅsidivyānimaṇīṅśca .

citrān sītāṅcarāmāyanivēdyadēvīṅvasēmarājan nihavītaśōkāḥ ।।6.15.14।।


rājan king, dhanāni: wealth, ratnāni: gems, subhūṣāṇāni: good ornaments, divyāni: wonderful, vāsāṅsi: clothes, citrān beautiful, maṇīṅśca: precious gems, sītāṅdēvīṅca: with celebrated Sita, rāmāya: to Rama, nivēdya: offer, iha: here, vītaśōkāḥ devoid of sorrow, vasēma: will remain.

"O King! We will offer celebrated Sita to Rama along with wealth, gems, good ornaments, wonderful and beautiful clothes and precious gems and remain here devoid of sorrow."
।।ityārṣēvālmīkīyēśrīmadrāmāyaṇēādikāvyēyuddhakāṇḍēpañcadaśassargaḥ।।
This is the end of the fifteenth sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic of the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
