[Ravana goes to the palace top and looks at Rama's army. Saarana shows Hanuman and others in the army to Ravana.]

tadvacaḥpathyamaklībaṅsāraṇēnābhibhāṣitam .

niśamyarāvaṇōrājāpratyabhāṣatasāraṇam ।।6.26.1।।

sāraṇēna: by Saarana, abhibhāṣitam truthful words spoken, pathyam beneficial, aklībam without hesitation, tat those, vacaḥ words, niśamya: perceiving, rājā: the king, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, sāraṇam to Saarana, pratyabhāṣata: replied.

Perceiving the truthful and beneficial words spoken by Saarana, without hesitation, King Ravana replied.

yadimāmabhiyuñjīrandēvagandharvadānavāḥ .

naivasītāṅpradāsyāmisarvalōkabhayādapi ।।6.26.2।।

dēvagandharvadānavāḥ Devas, Gandharvas, Danavas, mām me, abhiyuñjīran: all put together attack me in war, sarvalōkabhayādapi: not even for the fear of the whole world, naivapradāsyāmi: will not surrender, sītām Sita.

"Even if Devas, Gandharvas and Danavas put together attack me in war and not even for the fear of the whole world will I surrender Sita?"

tvaṅtusaumyaparitrastōharibhirnirjitōbhṛśam .

pratipradānamadyaivasītāyāssādhumanyasē ।।6.26.3।।

saumya: noble, haribhiḥ by Vanaras, bhṛśam very much, rnirjitaḥ vanquished, paritrastaḥ are frightened, tvaṅtu: you are, adyaiva: in this way, sītāyāḥ Sita, pratipradānam to surrender back, sādhu: is good, manyasē: thinking.

As you are vanquished by the noble Vanaras you are frightened like this and thinking it is good to surrender Sita.

kōhināmasapatnōmāṅsamarējētumarhati .

ityuktvāparuṣaṅvākyaṅrāvaṇōrākṣasādhipaḥ ।।6.26.4।।

ārurōhatataśraśīmān prāsādaṅhimapāṇḍuram .

bahutālasamutsēdhaṅrāvaṇō.thadidṛkṣyā ।।6.26.5।।

mām me, samarē: in war, kaḥ what, sapatnaḥ adversary, jētum can win, arhati: you ought to know, rākṣasādhipaḥ Rakshasa king, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, śrīmān prosperous, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, paruṣam harsh, vākyam words, uktvā: spoken, tataḥ like that, atha: and then, didṛkṣyā: wishing to see, himapāṇḍuram snow white palace, bahutālasamutsēdham which was of the height of many Palmira trees, prāsādam palace, ārurōha: climbed up.

"What adversary can win me in war? You ought to know this", said Ravana. Then Ravana, the king of Rakshasas having spoken that way went up to the snow white palace which was of the height of many Palmira trees wishing to see (the Vanaras).

tābhyāṅcarābhyāṅsahitōrāvaṇaḥkrōdhamūrchitaḥ .

paśyamānassamudraṅcaparvatāṅścavanānica ।।6.26.6।।

dadarśapṛthivīdēśaṅsusampūrṇaṅplavaṅgamaiḥ .

tābhyām with both of them (Suka and Saarana), carābhyām the spies, sahitaḥ along with, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, krōdhamūrchitaḥ deluded with anger, taṅsamudram that sea, parvatāṅśca: and mountains, vanāca: and woods, paśyamānaḥ started observing, plavaṅkamaiḥ crowded with monkeys, susampūrṇam totally, pṛthivīdēśam the region of the earth.

Deluded with anger Ravana along with both the spies observed the sea, the mountains and the woods crowded with monkeys in that region of the earth.

tadapāramasaṅkhkhyēyaṅvānarāṇāṅmahadbalaṅ .

alōkyarāvaṇōrājāparipapracchasāraṇam ।।6.26.7।।

rājā: king, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, vānarāṇām Vanaras, āpāram innumerable, asaṅkhkhyēyaṅ: impossible to count, tat that, mahadbalam great army force, alōkyasāraṇam looking at Saarana, paripapraccha: enquired further.

Ravana seeing the innumerable army force of monkeys which was impossible to count again enquired looking at Saarana.

ēṣāṅvānaramukhyānāṅkēśūrāḥkēmahābalāḥ .

kēpūrvamabhivartantēmahōtsāhāssamantataḥ ।।6.26.8।।

ēṣām among them, vānarāḥ Vanaras, mukhyā: foremost, kē: who is, śūrāḥ valiant, kē: who, mahābalāḥ strong in prowess, mahōtsāhāḥ most energetic, kē: who, samantataḥ equals, pūrvam earlier, abhivartantē: you may tell in order.

"Who among the Vanaras is foremost, who is valiant, strong in prowess and most energetic? Who are their equals in the earlier war, you may tell in order?"

kēṣāṅśṛṇōtisugrīvaḥkēvāyūthapayūthapāḥ .

sāraṇācakṣvatattvēnakēpradhānāḥplavaṅgamāḥ ।।6.26.9।।

sugrīvaḥ Sugriva, kēṣām whose advice, śṛṇōti: listen, yūthapayūdhapāḥ chief of the army, kēvā: or who, plavaṅgamāḥ of the monkeys, kē: who, pradhānāḥ chief, sāraṇa: Saarana, tattvēna: truly, ācakṣva: show me.

"Whose advice does Sugriva listen to? Who is the chief of the army of Vanaras? Saarana, I wish to know truly."

sāraṇōrākṣasēndrasyavacanaṅparipṛcchataḥ .

ācacakṣē.thamukhyajñōmukhyāṅstāṅstuvanaukasaḥ ।।6.26.10।।

atha: thus, mukhyajñaḥ who know the important ones, sāraṇaḥ Saarana, paripṛcchataḥ being asked, rākṣasēndrasya: by the king of Rakshasas, mukhyāṅstāṅstu: important there, vanaukasaḥ of the wanderers in woods, vacanam these words, ācacakṣē: speak out.

Hearing the words asked by Rakshasendra, Saarana, who knew the important ones, thus spoke out about the important monkey leaders.

ēṣayō.bhimukhōlaṅkāṅnardaṅstiṣṭhativānaraḥ .

yūthapānāṅsahasrāṇāṅśatēnaparivāritaḥ ।।6.26.11।।

yasyaghōṣēṇamahatāsaprākārāsatōraṇā .

laṅkāpravēpatēsarvāsaśailavanakānanā ।।6.26.12।।

sarvaśākhāmṛgēndrasyasugrīvasyamahātmanaḥ .

balāgrētiṣṭhatēvīrōnīlōnāmaiṣayūthapaḥ ।।6.26.13।।

yasya: whose, mahatā: great, ghōṣēṇa: by his roar, saprākārā: the boundary, satōraṇā: that main arch way, saśailavanakānanā: with its mountains and woods, sarvā: entire, laṅkāṅ: Lanka, pravēpatē: trembling, yūthapānām commanders of troops, sahasrāṇāṅ: thousands of them, śatēna: hundred, parivāritaḥ surrounded, yaḥ he who, ēṣaḥ this, vānaraḥ Vanaras, laṅkām abhimukhaḥ facing Lanka, nardan voice, tiṣṭhati: stands there, ēṣaḥ this, nīlōnāma: called Nila, vīraḥ warrior, yūthapaḥ troop, sarvaśākhāmṛgēndrasya: Lord of all troops of Vanaras, mahātmanaḥ great one, sugrīvasya: Sugriva's, balāgrē: in forefront, tiṣṭhatē: stands.

"Who, surrounded by thousands of troops is roaring aloud facing Lanka, with whose roar entire Lanka with its boundary walls, archways, mountains and woods are trembling, that one who stands in the forefront of Sugriva the Lord of all Vanara troops is known as the great Nila."

bāhūpragṛhyayaḥpad bhyāṅmahīṅgacchativīryavān .

laṅkāmabhimukhaḥkrōdhādabhīkṣṇaṅcavijṛmbhatē ।।6.26.14।।

giriśṛṅgapratīkāśaḥpadmakiñjalkasannibhaḥ .

spōṭayatyabhisaṅrabdhōlāṅgūlaṅcapunaḥpunaḥ ।।6.26.15।।

yasyalāṅgūlaśabdēnasvanantipradiśōdaśa .

ēṣavānararājēnasugrīvēṇābhiṣēcitaḥ ।।6.26.16।।

yauvarājyē.ṅgadōnāmatvāmāhvayatisaṅyugē ।।6.26.17।।

vīryavān valiant one, yaḥ he who, bāhū: arms, pragṛhya: lifting, pad bhyām with his feet, mahīm on the earth, gacchati: walking, laṅkām at Lanka, abhimukhaḥ facing towards, krōdhāt angrily, abhīkṣam seeing, vijṛmbhatē: expand s, giriśṛṅgapratīkāśaḥ who is like a mountain peak in form, padmakīṅjalkasannibhaḥ like the colour of lotus filament, atisaṅrabdhaḥ highly excited, punaḥpunaḥ again and again, lāṅgūlam tail, spōṭayati: hitting with, yasya: his, lāṅgūlaśabdēna: the sound produced by the tail, daśa: ten, pradiśaḥ directions, svananti: resounding, ēṣaḥ this, vānararājēna: Vanara leader, sugrīvēṇa: by Sugriva, abhiṣēcita: was crowned, aṅgadōnāma: by name Angada, yauvarājyaḥ crowned prince, saṅyugē: war with you, āhvayati: challenging you.

"The valiant one who has lifted his arms up and stands on the earth enraged facing Lanka, a highly excited one; who is tall and expanded like a mountain peak in form and colour of lotus filament; who is hitting his tail again and again on the earth and making noise with his tail, which is resounding in ten directions is Vanara leader by name Angada; who has been crowned by Sugriva. This crowned prince is challenging to have war with you."

vālinassadṛśaḥputrassugrīvasyasadāpriyaḥ .

rāghavārthēparākrāntaśśakrārthēvaruṇōyathā ।।6.26.18।।

vālinaḥ Vali's, sadṛśaḥ similar, putraḥ son, sadā: ever, sugrīvasya: Sugriva's, priyaḥ beloved, śakrārthē: for the cause of Indra, varuṇōyathā: like Varuna, rāghavārthē: for the cause of Rama, parākrāntaḥ ready to show his valour.

"He is the son of Vali and is similar to him and is ever beloved of Sugriva. Jus t like Varuna fights for the cause of Indra, he is ready to show his valour for the cause of Rama."

ētasyasāmatissarvāyaddṛṣṭājanakātmajā .

hanūmatāvēgavatārāghavasyahitaiṣiṇā ।।6.26.19।।

rāghavasya: Raghava's, hitaiṣiṇā: well wisher, vēgavatā: of great speed, hanūmatā: Hanuman, janakātmajā: Janaka's daughter, dṛṣṭāitiyat had come to see, sāsarvā: for all that, ētasya: his, matiḥ intellect.

"He is a well wisher of Raghava, called Hanuman. He had come to see Janaka's daughter, and his intellect is the cause for all that."

bahūnivānarēndrāṇāmēṣayūthānivīryavān .

parigṛhyābhiyātitvāṅsvēnānīkēnamarditum ।।6.26.20।।

vīryavān a valiant one, ēṣaḥ this, vānarēndrāṇām Vanara king's, bahūni: many, yūthāni: troops, parigṛhya: taking, tvām you, svēna: himself, anīkēna: several (battalions) marditum: in order to crush, abhiyāti: marching.

"This valiant Vanara himself with many troops and several battalions of the Vanara king is marching to crush you."

anuvālisutasyāpibalēnamahatā.vṛtaḥ .

vīrastiṣṭhatisaṅgrāmēsētuhēturayaṅnalaḥ ।।6.26.21।।

anuvālisutasya: behind the son of Vali, mahatā: huge, balēna: army force, vṛtaḥ surrounded by, saṅgrāmē: in war, vīraḥ heroic, sētuhētuḥ for the cause of construction of bridge, ayam this, nalaḥ Nila, tiṣṭhati: is standing.

"Behind this Vali's son is Nala surrounded by a huge army force. He is heroic in war. He is the cause of construction of the bridge."

yētuviṣṭabhyagātrāṇikṣvēlayantinadantica .

utthāyacavijṛmbhantēkrōdhēnaharipuṅgavāḥ ।।6.26.22।।

ētēduṣprasahāghōrāścaṇḍāścaṇḍaparākramāḥ .

aṣṭauśatasahasrāṇidaśakōṭiśatānica ।।6.26.23।।

yaēnamanugacchantivīrāścandanavāsinaḥ .

ēṣaivāśaṅsatēlaṅkāṅsvēnānīkēnamarditum ।।6.26.24।।

yē: those who are (following him), haripuṅga: Vanara leader, gātrāṇi: their limbs, viṣṭabhya: staying firmly, kṣvēlayanti: tossing their limbs, nadantica: and roaring, krōdhēna: in anger, utthāya: getting up, vijṛmbhantē: stretching, candanavāsinaḥ in the sandalwood forest, aṣṭōśatasahāsrāṇi: one thousand and eight, daśakōṭiśatānica: ten hundred crores, yē: of, vīrāḥ warriors, ēnam these, anugacchanti: are following, ētē: with them, duṣprasahāḥ unassailable, caṇḍāḥ cruel, ghōrāḥ dreadful, caṇḍaparākramāḥ of terrible prowess, ēṣaiva: alone, svēna: he, anīkēna: army, laṅkām Lanka, marditum crush, āśaṅsatē: wishing to do.

"Ten hundred crores one lakh and eight of these warriors who are unassailable, cruel, dreadful and terrible prowess are following the Vanara leader. They have made their body stiff, tossing their limbs, and are roaring in anger. They are standing up and stretching their limbs in sandalwood forest. Nala the leader alone is wishing to crush the army and Lanka."

śvētōrajatasaṅkāśaścapalōbhīmavikramaḥ .

buddhimānvānaraśśūrastriṣulōkēṣuviśrutaḥ ।।6.26.25।।

tūrṇaṅsugrīvamāgamyapunargacchatisatvaraḥ .

vibhajanvānarīṅsēnāmanīkānipraharṣayan ।।6.26.26।।

rajatasaṅkāśaṅ: resembles silver in colour, capalaḥ agile, bhīmavikrayaḥ of terrific prowess, buddhimān intelligent one, vīraḥ warrior, triṣulōkēṣu: in the three worlds, viśrutaḥ well known, śvētaḥsavānaraḥ Vanara by name Swetha, tūrṇam quickly, sugrīvam to Sugriva, āgamya: coming towards, vānarīm to the Vanaras, sēnām army, vibhajan dividing, anīkāni: the forces, praharṣayan delightfully, satvaraḥ swiftly, punaḥ again, gacchati: proceeding.

"One who resembles silver in colour is Swetha. He is an intelligent one with terrific prowess, and a warrior is well known in the three worlds. Swetha is quickly coming towards Sugriva, dividing the Vanara army forces and again proceeding swiftly."

yaḥpurāgōmatītīrēramyaṅparyētiparvatam .

nāmnāsaṅkōcanōnāmanānānagayutōgiriḥ ।।6.26.27।।

tatrarājyaṅpraśāstyēṣakumudōnāmayūthapaḥ .

yō.sauśatasahasrāṇisahasraṅparikarṣati ।।6.26.28।।

yasyavālābahuvyāmādīrghalāṅgūlamāśritā .

tāmrāpītāssītāśśvētāḥprakīrṇāghōradarśanā ।।6.26.29।।

adīnōrōṣaṇaścaṇḍassaṅgrāmamabhikāṅ kṣati .

ēṣō.pyāśaṅsatēlaṅkāṅsvēnānīkēnamarditum ।।6.26.30।।

yaḥ he who, purā: earlier, gōmatītīrē: on the banks of Gomathi, nāmnā: called, saṅkōcanō: Sankochana, nānānagayutaḥ collection of peaks, giriḥ of mountains, ramyam delightful, parvatam mountains, paryēti: extending far, ēṣō.pi: this also, kumudōnāma: named Kumuda, yūthapaḥ troops, tatra: there, rājyam kingdom, praśāsti: ruled, yaḥ he who, śatasahasrāṇi: hundred thousand, parikarṣati: dragging out, yasya: their, vālā: hair, bahuvyāmā: very long, dīrghalāṅgūlam with long hairy tails, tāmrāḥ copper coloured, pītāḥ yellow, sitāḥ fastened, śvētāḥ white, prakīrṇāḥ scattered, ghōradarśanāḥ frightening to see, adīnaḥ not having any pity, caṇḍaḥ dreadful, vānaraḥ Vanara, saṅgrāmam war, abhikāṅ kṣati: is aspiring, ēṣaivāśaṅsatē: he alone wishes, svēnānīkēna: with his own army, laṅkām Lanka, marditum to crush.

"He who was residing on the banks of Gomathi earlier, which was delightful with a range of mountain peaks extending far, was ruling this kingdom from the mountain Sankochana. He is Kumuda by name. He drags his troops delightfully; the ones with hairy long tails, some of coppery red colour, some yellow and some with white tails. Such a Vanara called Kumuda is dragging hundred thousand Vanaras, some fastened and some scattered. He is one who has no pity and is frightening to look at. Single handed he is aspiring to crush Lanka with its army in war."

yastvēṣasiṅhasaṅkāśaḥkapilōdīrghalōcanaḥ .

nibhṛtaḥprēkṣatēlaṅkāṅdidhakṣannivacakṣuṣā ।।6.26.31।।

vindhyaṅkṛṣṇagiriṅsahyaṅparvataṅcasudarśanam .

rājansatatamadhyāstērambhōnāmayūthapaḥ ।।6.26.32।।

śataṅśatasahāsrāṇāṅtriṅśaccaharipuṅgavāḥ .

yamētēvānarāśśūrāścaṇḍāścaṇḍaparākramāḥ ।।6.26.33।।

parivāryānugacchantilaṅkāṅmarditumōjasā .

rājan O king, siṅhasaṅkāśaḥ like a lion, kapilaḥ tawny coloured, dīrghalōcana: long eyes, yaḥ he who, nibhṛtaḥ one who is steady, cakṣuṣā: eyes, didhakṣanniva: as if burning with his looks, laṅkām Lanka, prēkṣatē: looks, śatasahasrāṇām hundred thousand, śatam hundred, triṅśacca: thirty, haripuṅgavāḥ Vanara warriors, ghōrāḥ dreadful in form, caṇḍaparākramāḥ of terrific valour, vānarāḥ Vanaras, yāntam marching, yam those, parivārya: with followers, ōjasā: with energy, laṅkām Lanka, marditum to crush, anugacchanti: following, saḥ he, rambhōnāma: called Rambha, yūthapaḥ leader of the troop, vindhyaṅ: at Vindhya mountain, kṛṣṇagirim Krishnagiri, sahyāṅ: Sahaya, parvatam mountain, sudarśanam Sudarsanam, satatam always, ādhyāstē: rules

"O king! He who is like a lion, of tawny colour with long hair, who is steady, who is looking at Lanka as though he is going to burn with his eyes, he who is followed by thirty hundred thousand Vanara warriors of dreadful form and terrific valour are marching to crush Lanka, is called Rambha the leader of the troop. He was always ruling over Vindhya, Krishnagiri and Sudarsanam mountains."

yastukarṇauvivṛṇutējṛmbatēcapunaḥpunaḥ .

nacasaṅvijatēmṛtyōrnacayuddhādvidhāvati ।।6.26.34।।

prakampatēcarōṣēṇatiryakcapunarīkṣatē .

paśyan lāṅgūlamapicakṣvēḷatēcamahābalaḥ ।।6.26.35।।

mahājavōvītabhayōramyaṅsālvēyaparvatam .

rājansatatamadhyāstēśarabhōnāmayūthapaḥ ।।6.26.36।।

rājan: O king!, karṇau: ears, vivṛṇutē: making stiff, punaḥpunaḥ again and again, jṛmbhatēca: is yawning, mṛtyōḥ even death, natusaṅvijatē: will not be afraid of, yuddhāt from war, nacapradhāvati: not go back, rōṣēṇa: reacts in anger, prakampatēca: violently, punaḥ again, tiryak obliquely, īkṣatē: seeing, lāhgūlam tail, pasyana: looking at, kṣvēḷatē: leaps, mahābalaḥ very strong, ēṣaḥ this, śarabhōnāma: called Sarabha, yūtapaḥ troop leader, mahājavō: very fast, vītabhayaḥ devoid of fear, satatam ever, ramyam in delight, sālvēyaṅparvatam Salveya mountain.

"Oh! king of Rakshasas! He who has made his ears stiff, yawning again and again, who is not afraid of death, who will not go back from war, who is looking obliquely and seeing his tail reacting in anger violently and roaring like a lion is a very strong leader called Sarabha. He is a very fast one, a leader of troops, ever in delight. He lives in Salveya mountain."

ētasyabalinassarvēvihārānāmayūthapāḥ .

rājan śatasahasrāṇicatvāriṅśastathaivaca ।।6.26.37।।

rājan king!, ētasya: under him, śatasahasrāṇi: hundred thousand, tathaivaca: so also, catvāriṅśat forty lakhs, sarvē: all, vihāraḥnāma: known as Viharas, yūthapāḥ warriors, balina: strong ones.

"O King! Under him are forty lakhs of strong warriors known as Viharas."

yastumēghaivākāśaṅmahānāvṛtyatiṣṭhati .

madhyēvānaravīrāṇāṅsūrāṇāmivavāsavaḥ ।।6.26.38।।

bhērīṇāmivasannādōyasyaiṣaśrūyatēmahān .

ghōṣaśśākhāmṛgēndrāṇāṅsaṅgrāmamabhikāṅkṣitām ।।6.26.39।।

ēṣaparvatamadhyāstēpāriyātramanuttamam .

yuddhēduṣprasahōnityaṅpanasōnāmayūthapaḥ ।।6.26.40।।

yaḥ he who, mahān huge, mēghaiva: like cloud, ākāśam sky, avṛtya: covering, surāṇām in the midst of Suras, vāsava iva: like Indra, vānaravīrāṇām among Vanara leaders, madhyē: midst, tiṣṭhati: stands, saṅgrāmam war, abhikāṅkṣitām eager to wage war, yasyēva: his, śākhāmṛgēndrāṇām among the, mahāna: great, ghōṣaḥ roar, bhērīṇām drums, sannāda: iva: like the beating, śrūyatē: sounds, ēṣaḥ this, nityam always, yuddhē: in war, duṣprasahaḥ difficult to resist in war, panasōnāma: known as Panasa, yūthapaḥ warrior, anuttamam very great, pāriyātram Paariyatra, adhyāstē: resides.

"He who is huge like a cloud covering the sky, roaring like a lion making noise like the beating of the drums, who is eager to wage war, who stands amid Vanaras like Indra in the midst of suras, who is ever difficult to resist in war is known as Panasa is a great warrior. He resides in the Paariyatra mountains."

ēnaṅśatasahasrāṇāṅśatārdhaṅparyupāsatē .

yūthapāyūthapaśrēṣṭhaṅyēṣāṅyūthānibhāgaśaḥ ।।6.26.41।।

yēṣām under him, yūthāni: army, bhāgaśaḥ separate units, śatasahasrāṇām śatārdham fifty lakhs, yūthapaśrēṣṭham best of warriors, ēnam this way, paryupāsatē: stay near.

"Fifty lakhs of best warriors are under him. They are in separate units."

yastubhīmāṅpravalgantīṅcamūṅtiṣṭhatiśōbhayan .

sthitāṅtīrēsamudrasyadvitīyaivasāgaraḥ ।।6.26.42।।

ēṣadardarasaṅkāśōvinatōnāmayūthapaḥ .

pibaṅścaratiparṇāsāṅnadīnāmuttamāṅnadīm ।।6.26.43।।

ṣaṣṭiśśatasahasrāṇibalamasyaplavaṅgamāḥ ।।6.26.44।।

yaḥ he who, samudrasya: ocean's, tīrē: shore, dvitīyaḥ second, sāgaraḥiva: like the ocean, sthitām stationed, bhīmām terrifying, pravalgantīm fluttering, camūm division of army, śōbhayan charm, tiṣṭhatiēṣaḥ in that way stationed, durdarasaṅkāśaḥ resembling Dardura mountain, vinatōnāma: known as Vinata, yūthapaḥ leader, yaḥ he who, nadīnām among the rivers, uttamām best, parṇāsāṅ: Parnasa, nadīm river, piban drinking, carati: goes about, ṣaṣṭiḥ sixty, śatasahasrāṇi: hundred thousand, plavaṅgamāḥ Vanaras, asyabalam his army force.

"He who is stationed there on the shore like a second sea fluttering the division of army and terrifying is known as Vinata. He is a leader who goes about drinking the waters of the Parnasa, the best among the rivers. He has a sixty hundred thousand army force of Vanaras under him."

tvāmāhvayatiyuddhāyakrōdhanōnāmayūdhapaḥ .

vikrāntābalavantaścayathāyūthānibhāgaśaḥ ।।6.26.45।।

vikrāntāḥ valiant, balavantaśca: powerful, yūthāni: troop leaders, yathā: so also, bhāgaśaḥ units, krōdhanōnāma: called Krodhana, vānaraḥ Vanara, tvām you, yuddhāya: for combat, āhvayati: is challenging.

"The valiant and powerful troop leaders are a part of units of the army under Vanara called Krodhana. He is challenging you for combat."

yastugairikavarṇābhaṅvapuḥpuṣyativānaraḥ .

avamatyasadāsarvānvānarānbaladarpitān ।।6.26.46।।

gavayōnāmatējasvītvāṅkrōdhādabhivartatē .

yaḥ he who, vānaraḥ Vanara, gairikavarṇābham of orange body in colour, vapuḥ of hand some form, puṣyati: nourishes, sadā: ever, baladarpitān proud of his strength, tējasvī: glorious one, gavayōnāma: known as Gavaya, sarvān all, vānarān Vanaras, avamatya: with disregard, krōdhāt in anger, tvām you abhivartatē: coming towards.

"He who is of an orange colour body of hand some form, who nourishes it ever and who is proud of his strength, a glorious one known as Gava ya is coming towards you angrily with disregard for Vanaras."

ēnaṅśatasahasrāṇisaptatiḥparyupāsatē .

ēṣaivāśaṅsatēlaṅkāṅsvēnānīkēnamarditum ।।6.26.47।।

ēnam under him, saptatiḥ seventy, śatasahasrāṇi: lakhs, paryupāsatē: at his command, ēṣaiva: he, svēna: alone, single handed, anīkēna: army force, laṅkām Lanka, marditum to crush, āśaṅsatē: aspiring.

"He has seventy lakhs under his command. Single handed with army force is aspiring to crush Lanka."

ētēduṣprasahāghōrābalinaḥkāmarūpiṇaḥ .

yūthapāyūthapaśrēṣṭhāmēṣāṅyūthānibhāgaśaḥ ।।6.26.48।।

balinaḥ strong, kāmarūpiṇaḥ those who can change form at will, tē: these, ghōrāḥ fierce, yūthapāḥ troops, yūthapaśrēṣṭhāḥ best of the monkeys, duṣprasahāḥ difficult to resist, yēṣām them, yūthāni: army force, bhāgaśaḥ units.
