[Rama's army takes position. Ravana seeks advice from his ministers and goes to Sita to threaten her to state that her husband has been killed and places counterfeit head of Rama by Sita's side.]

ततस्तमक्षोभ्यबलंलङ्काधिपतयेचराः ।

सुवेलेराघवंशैलेनिविष्टंप्रत्यवेदयन् ।।6.31.1।।


ततः there upon लङ्काअधिपतये to the king of Lanka, चराः the spies, अक्षोभ्यबलम् unshakeable army, तंराघवम् of Raghava, लङ्कायाम् to Lanka, सुवेलेशैलेनिविष्टम् staying at Suvela mountain, प्रत्यवेदयन् described.

There upon the spies described the unshakeable army of Raghava staying at Suvela mountain, to the king of Lanka.
चाराणांरावणश्श्रुत्वाप्राप्तंरामंमहाबलम् ।

जातोद्वेगोऽभवत्किञ्चित्सचिवानिदमब्रवीत् ।।6.31.2।।


रावणः Ravana, महाबलम् with mighty force, रामम् Rama, प्राप्तम् has come, चाराणाम् from the spies, श्रुत्वा heard, किञ्चित् a little, जातोद्वेगः got perturbed, सचिवान् ministers, इदम् here, अब्रवीत् said.

Having heard from the spies that Rama has come with mighty force, Ravana got perturbed and said to the ministers.
मन्त्रिणश्शीघ्रमायान्तुसर्वेवैसुसमाहिताः ।

अयंनोमन्त्रकालोहिसम्प्रप्ताइतिराक्षसाः ।।6.31.3।।


नः for us, अयम् this is, मन्त्रकालः time to think, सम्प्राप्तः has come इति thus, मन्त्रिणः with ministers, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, सर्वे all, सुसमाहिताः all of them assembled, शीघ्रम् immediately, अयान्तु let them be called.

"The time has come for us to call for all the rakshasas and ministers immediately and assemble (said Ravana)."
तस्यतद्वचनंश्रुत्वामन्त्रिणोऽभ्यागमन् द्रुतम् ।

ततस्समन्त्रयामासराक्षसैस्सचिवैस्सह ।।6.31.4।।


तस्य his, तत् that, शासनम् order, श्रुत्वा having hard, मन्त्रिणः ministers, द्रुवम् instantly, अभ्यागमन् reached, ततः then, सः he, राक्षसैः to Rakshasa, सचिवैः ministers सह along with, मन्त्रयामास started to think.

Having been ordered (by Ravana) that way, the ministers along with Rakshasas instantly reached and he started to think with them.
मन्त्रयित्वासदुर्धर्षःक्षमंयत्समनन्तरम् ।

विसर्जयित्वासचिवान्प्रविवेशस्वमालयम् ।।6.31.5।।


दुर्दर्षः unassailable, अनन्तरम् after that, यत् that which, क्षमम् proper, तत् that, मन्त्रयित्वा thinking over, सचिवान् minister, विसर्जयित्वा dispensed away, स्वम् his own, आलयम् residence, प्रविवेश entered.

Thereafter, thinking about what is appropriate to do, unassailable Ravana dispensed his ministers and entered his own residence.
ततोराक्षसमाहूयविद्युज्जिह्वंमहाबलम् ।

मायाविदंमहामायःप्राविशद्यत्रमैथिली ।।6.31.6।।


ततः then, महामायः extraordinary skills, महाबलम् mighty, मायाविदम् learned in conjuring tricks, विद्युज्जिह्वम् Vidyujihvam, आदाय sent for, मैथिली Mythili, यत्र there, प्राविशत् went.

Then Ravana of extraordinary skills sent for Vidyujihvam, a learned one in conjuring tricks and went from there to Mythili.
विद्युज्जिह्वंचमायाज्ञमब्रवीद्राक्षसाधिपः ।

मोहयिष्यावहेसीतांमाययाजनकात्मजाम् ।।6.31.7।।


राक्षसाधिपः Rakshasa king, मायाज्ञाम् one who knows conjuring ricks, विद्युज्जिह्वम् Vidyujihvam, अब्रवीत् च and said, जनकात्मजाम् Janaka's daughter, सीताम् Sita, मायया by making trick, मोहयिष्यानहे will cheat.

Rakshasa king Ravana said to Vidyujihvam who knew conjuring tricks, "We will cheat Sita, daughter of Janaka by a trick."
शिरोमायामयंगृह्यराघवस्यनिशाचर: ।

त्वंमांसमुतिष्ठस्वमहच्चसशरंधनुः ।।6.31.8।।


निशाचर night ranger, राघवस्य Raghava's, मायामयम् an illusory, शिरः head, सशरम् an arrow, महात् great, धनुःच and bow also, गृह्य seizing, माम् to me, त्वम् you, समुपतिष्ठस्व come and stand.

"O Night ranger! You make an illusory head of Raghava and come and stand at me holding an arrow with great bow."
एवमुक्तस्तथेत्याहविद्युज्जिह्वोनिशाचरः ।

दर्शयामासतांमायांसुप्रयुक्तांसरावणे ।।6.31.9।।

तस्यतुष्टोऽभवद्राजाप्रददौचविभूषणम् ।


एवम् in that way, उक्तः having spoken, निशाचरः night ranger, विद्युज्जिह्वः Vidyujihvam, तथेति be it so, आह striking, सुप्रयुक्ताम् dexterously produced, तांमायाम् by the tricker, सः that, रावणे to Ravana, दर्शयामास showed, राजा king, तस्य his, तुष्टः pleased, आभवत् विभूषणम् beautiful ornament, प्रददेच presented.

When the Rakshasa king had spoken that way to Vidyujihvam, he said, "Be it so." Pleased with the dexterous production of Vidyujihvam, Ravana presented to him a beautiful ornament.
अशोकवनिकायांतुसीतादर्शनलालसः ।

वैरृतानामधिपतिस्संविवेशमहाबलः ।।6.31.10।।


महाबलः mighty strong, नैरृतानाम् अधिपतिः Rakshasa king, सीतादर्शनलालसः eager to have a look at Sita, आशोकवनिकायाम् to the Asoka grove, संविवेश entered.

Eager to have a look at Sita, the mighty king of Rakshasas entered Asoka grove.
ततोदीनामदैन्यार्हांददर्शधनदानुजः ।।6.31.11।।

अधोमुखींशोकपरामुपविष्टांमहीतले ।

भर्तारमेवध्यायन्तीमशोकवविकांगताम् ।।6.31.12।।


ततः there upon, धनदानुजः brother of Kubera, दीनाम् sad, अदैन्यार्हाम् who did not deserve that piteous condition, अथोमुखीम् bending down her head, शोकपराम् filled with sorrow, अशोकवनिकाम् in the Asoka grove, गताम् reduced to that state, महीतले on the ground, उपविष्टाम् seated, भर्तारमेव only about her husband, ध्यायन्तीम् contemplating, ददर्श saw.

Thereafter, the younger brother of Kubera (Ravana) saw sad Sita, who did not deserve that piteous condition, who had been reduced to sorrowful state, seated on the ground in Asoka grove, with her head bent down filled with sorrow contemplating on her husband alone.
उपास्यमानांघोराभीराक्षसीभिरितस्ततः ।

उपसृत्यततस्सीतांप्रहर्षंनामकीर्तयन् ।।6.31.13।।

इदंचवचनंधृष्टमुवाचजनकात्मजाम् ।


ततः then, अरितस्ततः guarded by enemies, घोराभिः dreadful, राक्षसीभिः Rakshasas also, उपास्यमानाम् closely surrounded by, सीताम् while Sita, उपसृत्य went near, प्रहर्षंनाम happy, कीर्तयन् praising, जनकात्मजाम् Sita, daughter of Janaka, धृष्टम् saw, इदंवचनम् these words, उवाच addressed.

While she was guarded by dreadful Rakshasa women surrounding her closely, Ravana went near her happily and saw her. He addressed Sita praising her.
सान्त्व्यमानामयाभद्रेयमुपाश्रित्यवल्गसे ।

खरहन्तासतेभर्ताराघवस्समरेहतः ।।6.31.14।।


भद्रे O auspicious one, मया my, सान्त्व्यमाना however much requested, यम् whom, उपाश्रित्य seeking, विमन्यसे you did not care for me, सः that, तेभर्ता your husband, खरहन्ता who slayed Khara, राघवः Raghava, समरे in war, हतः killed.

"O Auspicious one! However, much I have requested you, you did not care for me seeking your husband. Raghava, who killed Khara, has been killed in war."
छिन्नंतेसर्वतोमूलंदर्पस्तेनिहतोमया ।

व्यसनेनात्मनस्सीते ममभार्याभविष्यसि ।।6.31.15।।


सीते O Sita, सर्वतः all, मया my me, मूलम् roots, छिन्नम् crushed, दर्पतः vanity, विहतः give up, आत्मनः your own, व्यसनेन by your own self will, मम my, भार्या wife, भविष्यसि will be.

"O Sita! All your roots have been crushed by me. Give up your vanity. By your own accord, you become my wife."
विसृजेमांमतिंमूढे: किंमृतेनकरिष्यसि ।

भवस्वभद्रे: भार्याणांसर्वेसामीश्वरीमम ।।6.31.16।।


मूढे O foolish one!, एताम् these, मतिम् from mind, विसृज give up, मृतेन with a deceased, किंकरिष्यसि What will you do, भद्रे O auspicious one, मम my, सर्वासाम् all, भार्याणम् of all wives, ईश्वरी queen, भव you be.

"O Foolish one! Give up these thoughts from your mind. What will you do with your deceased husband? O auspicious one! You are the queen of all my wives."
अल्पपुण्ये: निवृत्तार्थे: मूढे: पण्डितमानिनि: ।

शृणुभर्तृवधंसीते: घोरंवृत्रवधंयथा ।।6.31.17।।


अल्पपुण्ये of less merit, निवृत्तार्थे one who has given up all worldly acts, मूढे stupid one, पण्डितमानिनि one who pretends as if she knows everything, सीते O Sita, वृत्रवधंयथा just as the slaying of Vrthasura, घोरम् terrific, भर्तृवधम् husband 's, शृणु hear.

"O woman of less merit! You are one who has given up all worldly actions. Stupid one! You pretend as if you know everything. O Sita! Hear about your husband 's death like that of Vrthasura."
समायातस्समुद्रान्तंमांहन्तुंकिलराघवः ।

वानरेन्द्रप्रणीतेनबलेनमहतावृतः ।।6.31.18।।


राघवः Raghava, वानरेन्द्रप्रणीतेन led by Vanara king, महता huge, बलेन army force, वृतः surrounded, माम् me, हन्तुम् to kill, समुद्रान्तम् to the shore of the sea, समायातःकिल indeed has collected.

"Raghava led by the huge army force of the Vanara king has arrived on the seashore."
सन्निविष्टस्समुद्रस्यपीड्यतीरमथोत्तरम् ।

बलेनमहतारामोव्रजत्यस्तंदिवाकरे ।।6.31.19।।


अथ and then, दिवाकरे when Sun, अस्तम् sets, व्रजतिपति moved towards west, रामः Rama, महता huge, बलेन strength of army, समुद्रस्य ocean's, उत्तरम् northern, तीरम् shore, पीड्य to strike, सन्निविष्टः encamped.

And when the Sun moved towards the west, Rama encamped on the northern shore of the sea with a huge army to strike.
अथाध्वनिपरिश्रान्तमर्धरात्रेस्थितंबलम् ।

सुखसुप्तंसमासाद्यचारित्रंप्रथमंचरैः ।।6.31.20।।


अथ and then, अध्वनि having walked all the way, परिश्रान्तम् taking rest, अर्धरात्रे midnight, सुखसुप्तम् slept well, स्थितम् stayed, बलम् army, प्रथमम् prime, समासाद्य sending, चरैः spies, चारित्रं all about them.

After having walked all the way they slept well and when they were sleeping at midnight, we found out all about them by sending prime spies.
तत्प्रहस्तप्रणीतेनबलेनमहतामम ।

बलमस्यहतंरात्रौयत्ररामस्सलक्ष्मणः ।।6.31.21।।


सलक्ष्मणः that Lakshmana, रामः Rama, यत्र where in, प्रहस्तप्रणीतेन led by Prahastha, महता great, ममबलेन by my army, अस्य their, बलम् powerful, रात्रौ in the night, हतम् slayed.

"There in that camp Lakshmana and Rama are killed by my powerful army led by Prahastha at night."
पट्टसान्परिघांश्चक्रान्दण्डान्महायशान् ।

बाणजालानिशूलानिभास्वरान्कूटमुद्गरान् ।।6.31.22।।

यष्टीश्चतोमरान् शक्तीश्चक्राणिमुसलानिच ।

उद्यम्योद्यम्यरक्षोभिर्वानरेषुनिपातितां ।।6.31.23।।


पट्टशान् spears, परिघान् iron bars, चक्रान् javelins, दण्डान् staffs, महायशान् huge ones, बाणजालानि sparkling maces, शूलानि tridents, भास्वरान् shining, कूटमुद्गरान् iron mallets, यष्टीश्च and clubs, तोमरान् lances, शक्ती strong, मुसलानिच and Musalas, उद्यम्यउद्यम्य lifting again and again, रक्षोभिः Rakshasas, वानरेषु at Vanaras, निपातिताः hurled.

Again, and again lifting spears, iron bars, javelins, huge staffs, sparkling maces, shining iron mallets and clubs, lances and strong Musalas, the Rakshasas hurled at Vanaras.
अथसुप्तस्यरामस्यप्रहस्तेनप्रमाथिना ।

असक्तंकृतहस्तेनशिरश्छिन्नंमहासिना ।।6.31.24।।


अथ thereafter, प्रमाथिना one who is capable of striking, कृतहस्तेन skilled, प्रहस्तेन by Prahastha, महासिना big sword, सुप्तस्य sleeping, रमस्य Rama's, शिरः head, असक्तं without any feeling of attachment, छिन्नम् severed.

"There after the head of Rama, who was sleeping, was severed by Prahastha, skilled at striking, with a big sword without any feeling of attachment."
विभीषणस्समुत्पत्यनिगृहीतोयदृच्छया ।

दिशःप्रव्राजितस्सर्वैस्सर्लक्ष्मणःप्लवगैस्सहा ।।6.31.25।।


यदृच्छया by chance, विभीषणः Vibheeshana, समुत्पत्य when rose up, निगृहीतः caught hold, लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, प्लवगैःसह along with Vanaras, दिशम् directions, प्रव्राजितः fled.

"When Vibheeshana rose up he was caught by chance. Lakshmana and Vanaras fled in all directions."
सुग्रीवोग्रीनयासीतेभग्नयाप्लवगाधिपः ।

निरस्तहनुकश्शेतेहनुमान्राक्षसैर्हतः ।।6.31.26।।


सीते O Sita!, प्लवगाधिपः Vanara Lord, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, भग्नया broken, ग्रीनया neck, हनुमान् Hanuman, राक्षसैः by Rakshasas, निरस्तहनुकः chin broken, हतः killed, शेते lies fallen down.

"O Sita! Vanara Lord Sugriva with his neck broken, Hanuman with chin broken were killed by Rakshasas and are lying down fallen on the ground."
जाम्बवानथजानुभ्यामुत्पतन्निहतोयुधि ।

पट्टसैर्बहुभिश्छिन्नोनिकृत्तःपादपोयथा ।।6.31.27।।


अथ and, जानुभ्याम् on the knees, उत्पतन् while rising up, जाम्बवान् Jambavan, युधि in combat, निहातः fallen down, बहुभिः many, पट्टसै: iron bars, छिन्नः struck, पादपोयथा like a tree, छिन्नः broken down.

And while Jambavan was rising on his knees, he was struck by many iron bars in comb at and had fallen down like a tree.
मैन्दश्चद्विविदश्चोभौनिहतौवानरर्षभौ ।।6.31.28।।

निश्श्वसन्तौरुदन्तौचरुधिरेणसमुक्षितौ ।

असिनाव्यायतौछिन्नौमध्येह्यरिनिषूदनौ ।।6.31.29।।


व्यायतौ of huge body, अरिनिषूदनौ slayers of enemies, मैन्दश्च Mainda, द्विविदश्च and Dwivida, उभौ both, वानरर्षभौ bulls among Vanaras, निश्शसन्तौ breathing hard, रुदन्तौ roaring, रुधिरेण in blood, समुक्षितौ bathing, असिना sword, मध्ये in the midst, छिन्नौ cut.

"Mainda and Dwivida of huge bodies, who are slayers of enemies, the bulls among Vanaras are breathing hard, and bathed in blood roaring, having been cutin the middle of their body."
अनुतिष्ठतिमेदिन्यांपनसःपनसोयथा ।।6.31.30।।

नाराचैर्बहुभिश्चिन्नश्शेतेदर्यांदरीमुखः ।

कुमुदस्तुमहातेजानिष्कूजन्सायकै: कृतः ।।6.31.31।।


पनसोयथा like jackfruit, पनसः Panasa, मेदिन्याम् on the earth, अनुतिष्ठति lying on the ground, दरीमुखः Darimukha, बहुभिः many, नाराचैः arrows, छिन्नः shattered, दर्याम् on the ground, शेते lying down, निष्कूजन् torn off, महातेजाः brilliant, कुमुदस्तु Kumuda too, सायकैः silently, कृतः lying.

"Panasa is lying down on earth like jackfruit. Darimukha is lying down shattered by many arrows. Brilliant Kumuda too is torn off and silently lying down."
अङ्गदोबहुभिश्छिन्नश्शरैरासाद्यराक्षसैः ।

पतितोरुधिरोद्गारीक्षितौनिपतिताङ्गदः ।।6.31.32।।


पतितः fallen down, रुधिरोद्गारी throwing up blood, क्षितौ destroyed, निपतिताङ्गदः shoulder straps dropped down, अङ्गदः Angada, राक्षसैः by Rakshasas, आसाद्य reaching towards him, बहुभिः many, शरैः arrows, छिन्नः chopped.

"By the many arrows of Rakshasas reaching towards Angada, he lies down chopped up and destroyed, with his armlets dropped down throwing up blood."
हरयोमथितानागैरथजातैस्तथापरे ।

शयितामृदिताश्चाश्वैर्यायुवेगैरिवाम्बुदाः ।।6.31.33।।


तत्र there, शयिता: sleeping ones, अपरे some, हरयः Vanaras, नागैः by elephants, तथा so also, रथजातैः by mass of clouds, वायुवेगैः by the speed of wind, अम्बुदाःइव like the clouds, मृदिताः are dead.

"There, some of the sleeping Vanaras were crushed by elephants, so also, just as by the speed of wind the clouds are crushed the Vanaras are crushed to death."
प्रहृताश्चपरेत्रस्ताहस्यमानाजघन्यतः ।

अभिद्रुतास्तुरक्षोभिस्सिंहैरिवमहाद्विपाः ।।6.31.34।।


परे some, जघन्यतः followed behind, हन्यमानाः destroying, सिंहैः lions, महाद्विपा: इव like huge elephants, रक्षोभिः like Rakshasas, अभिद्रुताः severely afflicted, त्रस्ताः frightened, प्रहृताः struck.

"Some were followed behind as they were speeding like lions and mighty elephants afflicted and frightened, struck by Rakshasas."
सागरेपतिताःकेचित्केचिग्दगनमाश्रिताः ।

ऋक्षावृक्षानुपारूढावानरींवृत्तिमाश्रिताः ।।6.31.35।।


केचित् a few, सागरे sea, पतिताः dived in, केचित् some, गगनम् sky, आश्रिताः sought refuge, ऋक्षाः Bears, वानरैः Vanaras, वृत्तिमाश्रिताः resorting to their ways, वृक्षान् trees, उपारूढाः climbed.

"While a few Vanaras dived into the sea, some took refuge in the sky. Resorting to their natural way the Bears climbed the trees."
सागरस्यचतीरेषुशैलेषुचवनेषुच ।

पिङ्गलास्तेविरूपाक्षैर्बहुभिर्बहवोहताः ।।6.31.36।।


ते they, बहवः many, पिङ्गलाः those with yellowish brown eyes (Vanaras), सागरस्य in the ocean, तीरेषु on the shore, शैलेषुच on mountains, वनेषुच in woods, विरूपाक्षैः with fierce eyes, बहुभिः many, राक्षसैः by Rakshasas, हताः were killed.

"Many fierceeyed Rakshasas killed several Vanaras on the shore of the ocean, in the mountains and woods."
एवंतवहतोभर्ताससैन्योममसेनया ।

क्षतजार्द्रंरजोध्वस्तमिदंचस्याहृतंशिरः ।।6.31.37।।


एवम् in that manner, ससैन्यः the army, तन your, भर्ता husband, सेनया army, हतः were killed, अस्य his, क्षथजार्द्रम् decayed and drenched in blood, रजोध्वस्तम् covered with dust particles, इदम् this, शिरः head, अहृतम् brought.

"In that way the army of your husband has been killed by Rakshasa army and his decayed head drenched in blood covered with dust has been brought."
ततःपरमदुर्धर्षोरावणोराक्षसेश्वरः ।

सीतायामुपशन्त्यांराक्षसीमिदमब्रवीत् ।।6.31.38।।


ततः then, परमदुर्धर्षः highly unassailable, राक्षसेश्वर king of Rakshasas, रावण Ravana, सीतायाम् while Sita, उशृण्वत्याम् to the hearing of, राक्षसीम् Rakshasas, इदम् these words, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Then Ravana, the highly unassailable king of Rakshasas spoke these words to the hearing of Sita.
राक्षसंक्रूरकर्माणंविद्युज्जिह्वंत्वमानय ।

येनतद्राघवशिरस्सङ्ग्रामात्स्वयमाहृतम् ।।6.31.39।।


येन he who, तत् that, राघवशिरः Rama's head, सङ्ग्रामात् from the battlefield, स्वयम् the one, आहृतम् who brought, क्रूरकर्माणम् one of cruel deeds, राक्षसम् Rakshasa, विद्युज्जिह्वम् Vidyujihvam, त्वमानयः bring along.

"Bring that Rakshasa, Vidyujihvam of cruel deeds who brought Rama's head from the battlefield."
विद्युज्जिह्वस्ततोगृह्यशिरस्तत्सशरासनम् ।

प्रणामंशिरसाकृत्वारावणस्याग्रतस्थितः ।।6.31.40।।


ततः then, विद्यज्जिह्वः Vidyujihvam, सशरासनम् along with bow, तत् शिरः that head, गृह्य holding, शिरसा by his head, प्रणामम् bowing down in salutation, कृत्वा having done रावणस्य Ravana 's, अग्रतः in front, स्थितः stood.

Then holding the head along with the bow, Vidyujihvam bowed his head down in salutation and stood in front of Ravana.
तमब्रवीत्ततोराजारावणोराक्षसंस्थितम् ।

विद्युज्जिह्वंमहाजिह्वंसमीपपरिवर्तिनम् ।।6.31.41।।


ततः then, राज king, रावणः Ravana, महाजिह्वाम् one with extended tongue, समीपपरिवर्तिनम् who had come close, स्थितम् stood, राक्षसम् Rakshasa, तंविद्युज्जिह्वं to Vidyujihvam, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Then the king, Ravana spoke to Vidyujihvam, the Rakshasa with extended tongue, who stood close by.
अग्रतःकुरुसीतायाश्शीघ्रंदाशरधेशशिरः ।

अवस्थांपश्चिमांभर्तुःकृपणासाधुपश्यतु ।।6.31.42।।


दाशरथेः Dasaratha's son's, शिरः head, शीघ्रम् at once, सीतायाः Sita's, अग्रतः before, कुरु place it, कृपणा piteous woman, भर्तुः to husband, पश्चिमाम् at the end, अवस्थाम् ultimate state, साधु attained, पश्यतु let her see.

At once place the head of Dasaratha's son before that piteous woman. Let her see the ultimate status attained by her husband at the end (said Ravana).
एवमुक्तंतुतद्रक्षशशिरस्तत्प्रियदर्शनम् ।

उपनिक्षिप्यसीतायाःक्षिप्रमन्तरधीयत ।।6.31.43।।


एवम् in that way, उक्तम् having spoken, तत् रक्षः that Rakshasa, प्रियदर्शनम् pleasing to see, तत् that, शिरः head, सीतायाः to Sita, उपनिक्षिप्य by the side of, क्षीप्रम् immediately, अन्तरधीयत went away.

Having spoken immediately placed the head of Rama that was pleasing to see, by the side of Sita and went away.
रावणश्चापिचिक्षेपभस्वरंकार्मुकंमहत् ।

त्रिषुलोकेषुविख्यातंसीतामिदमुवाचह ।।6.31.44।।


रावणश्चापि even Ravana, सीता Sita, इदम् thus, उवाचह addressed, त्रिषुलोकेषु in the three worlds, विख्यातम् famous, इति this, भास्वरम् bright, महत् great, कार्मुकम् bow, चिक्षेप casting down.

Thus addressed Ravana casting down the bright great bow that is famous in the three worlds.
इदंतुतवरामस्यकार्मुकंज्यासमायुतम् ।

इहप्रहस्तेनानीतंहत्वातंनिशिमानुषम् ।।6.31.45।।


इदम् this, तवरामस्य your Rama's, ज्यासमावृतम duly strung, तत् that, कार्मुकम् bow, निशि in the night, तम् him, मानुषम् he human being, हत्वा after killing, इह here, प्रहस्तेन by Prahastha, अनीतम् has brought.

"Prahastha has brought this bow duly tied with the string after killing human Rama in the night."
सविद्युज्जिह्वेनसहैवतच्छिरोधनुश्चभूमौविनिकीर्यरावणः ।

विदेहराजस्यसुतांयशस्विनींततोऽब्रवीत्तांभवमेवशानुगा ।।6.31.46।।


विद्युज्जिह्वेनसहैव by Vidyujihvam and himself, सःरावणः that Ravana, तत् that, शिरः head, धनुश्च and bow, भूमौ on the ground, विनिकीर्य placed, ततः then, विदेहराजस्य king of Videha's, सुताम् daughter, यशस्विनीम् famed one, ताम् her, मे my, वशानुगा submit will, भव you, अब्रवीत् said.

Then Ravana placing that head brought by Vidyujihvam and the famous bow on the ground said to the daughter of the king of Videha, "Now you may submit to my will."
