[Saarana tells Sita that the evidence shown by Ravana is false and that Rama has crossed the ocean and reached Lanka.]

sītāṅtumōhitāṅdṛṣṭavāsaramānāmarākṣasī .

āsasādāthavaidēhīṅpriyāṅpraṇayinīṅsakhī ।।6.33.1।।


atha then, praṇayinīm dear, sakhī friend, saramānāma Saarana, rākṣasī rakshasa mōhitām distraught, sītām Sita, dṛṣṭavā seeing, priyām friend, vaidēhīm Vaidehi, āsasāda approached

Then seeing Sita in distraught, a Rakshasi by name Saarana who was very dear and friendly with Vaidehi approached her.
mōhitāṅrākṣasēndrēṇasītāṅparamaduḥkhitām .

āśvāsayāmāsatadāsaramāmṛdubhāṣiṇī ।।6.33.2।।


tadā then, mṛdubhāṣiṇī of sweet expression, saramā Saarana, rākṣasēndrēṇa because of the king of Rakshasa, mōhitām put off, paramaduḥkhitām extremely sorrowful, sītām Sita, āśvāsayāmāsa comforted.

Then Saarana of sweet expression, comforted Sita who was put off and was extremely sorrowful because of the Rakshasa king.
sāhitatrakṛtāmitraṅsītayārakṣyamāṇayā .

rakṣantīrāvaṇādiṣṭāsānukrōśādṛḍhavratā ।।6.33.3।।


rāvaṇādiṣṭā by Ravana's order, rakṣantī protected, sānukrōśā most compassionate, dṛḍhavratā determined, sā that, tatra there, rakṣyamāṇayā protecting, sītayā Sita, mitram friendship, kṛtāhi was doing (protecting).

Most compassionate Saarana, determined to protect was friendly with Sita while she was ordered for protecting her by Ravana.
sādadarśasakhīsītāṅsaramānaṣṭacētanām .

upāvṛttyōtthitāṅdhvastāṅbaḍabāmivapāṅsulām ।।6.33.4।।


sakhī friend, sā that, saramā Saarana, naṣṭacētanām lost consciousness, pāṅsulām dirty ground, upāvṛttya enveloped, utthitām female horse, dhvastām covered with, baḍabāmiva like a female horse, sītām Sita, dadarśa saw.

Saarana saw her friend Sita, who had lost consciousness, fully covered by dust by rolling on the dirty ground like a female horse.
tāṅsamāśvāsayāmāsasakhīsnēhēnasuvratā .

samāśvasihivaidēhī mābhūttēmavasōvyathā ।।6.33.5।।


sakhī friend, vaidēhī Vaidehi, suvratā noble vows, tām her, snēhēna in friendly way, samāśvāsayāmāsa consoled, samāśvasihi encouraging to recover, tē your, manasaḥ heart, vyadhā pain, mābhūt not be.

Saarana consoled Vaidehi of noble vows in a friendly way and encouraged her to recover saying, "Let there be no pain at heart."
uktāyadrāvaṇēnatvaṅpratyuktaścasvayaṅtvayā .

sakhīsnēhēnatabhadīrumayāsarvaṅpratiśrutam ।।6.33.6।।

līnayāgahanēśūnyēbhayamutsṛjyarāvaṇāt .

tavahētōrviśālākṣī nahimējīvitaṅpriyam ।।6.33.7।।


bhīru one under constant fear (timid), tvam you are, rāvaṇēna by Ravana, yat thus, uktā spoken, tvayā to you, svayam yourself, pratyuktaśca your reply, tat sarvam all that, śūnyē secret, gahanē location, līnayā hiding, mayā by me, sakhīsnēhēna out of friendship, rāvaṇāt of Ravana, bhayam fear, utsṛjya giving up, pratiśrutam heard the reply, viśālākṣi broad-eyed, tavahētōḥ for your sake, mē me, jīvitam life, bhayam fear, nahi not being.

"O Broad-eyed friend! You are constantly under fear (timid). Give up fear of Ravana, I have overheard all that you have spoken to Ravana and his reply by hiding in a secret place out of my affection, without caring for my life."
sasambhrāntaścaniṣkrāntōyatkṛtērākṣasādhipaḥ .

taccamēviditaṅsarvamabhiniṣkramyamaithili:।। 6.33.8।।


maithili Mythili, saḥrākṣasādhipaḥ the king of Rakshasas, yatkṛtē for what reason, sambhrāntaḥ agitated, niṣkrāntaḥ left, tatra that, sarvam everything, abhiniṣkramya returned back, mē I, viditam know.

"O Mythili! I know all about why the king of Rakshasas returned back agitated."
naśakyaṅsauptikaṅkartuṅrāmasyaviditātmanaḥ .

vadhaścapuruṣavyāghrētasminnaivōpapadyatē ।।6.33.9।।


viditātmanaḥ knower of himself, rāmasya Rama's, sauptikam sleeping, kartum to do, naśakyam not possible, puruṣavyāghrē tiger among men, tasmin his, vadhaśca death, naivaupapadyatē not possible.

"Rama is a knower of his Self. It is not possible to kill him while he is asleep. Nay death is not possible for he is a tiger among men."
natvēvavānarāhantuṅśakyāḥpādapayōdhipaḥ .

surādēvarṣabhēṇēvarāmēṇahisurakṣitāḥ ।।6.33.10।।


surarṣabhēṇa Lord of Devas, surāḥiva like Devas, rāmēṇa by Rama, surakṣitāḥ protected, pādapayōdhipaḥ warriors who fight wielding trees, vānarāḥ Vanaras, ēvam like that, hantum to kill, naśakyāḥ not feasible.

"Vanaras are fighting with trees and are not capable of being killed. Just as the gods are protected by their Lord Indra, Vanaras are protected by Rama. It is not feasible to kill them."
dīrghavṛttabhujśīmānmahōraskaḥpratāpavān .

dhanvīsaṅhananōpētōdharmātmābhuviviśrutaḥ ।।6.33.11।।

vikrāntōrakṣitānityamātmanaścaparasyaca .

lakṣmaṇēnasahabhrātrākuśalīnayaśāstravit ।।6.33.12।।

hantāparabalaughanāmacintyabalapauruṣaḥ .

nahatōrāghavaśraśīmānsītē: śatrunibarhaṇaḥ ।।6.33.13।।


sītē O Sita!, dīrghavṛttabhujaḥ who has long rounded shoulders, śrīmān majestic, mahōraskaḥ broad chest, pratāpavān endowed with valour, dhanvī wielder of bow, saṅhananōpētaḥ surrounded by many, dharmātmā righteous, bhuvi world, viśrutaḥ famous, vikrāntaḥ powerful, nityam at all times, ātmanaśca his own, parasyaca and others, rakṣitā protector, bhrātrā brother, lakṣmaṇēna Lakshmana also, kuśala: happy, nayaśāstravit knower of sastras of propriety, parabalaughānām strength of enemy, hantā kill, acintyabalapauruṣaḥ of inconceivable courage, śrīmān royal, śatrunibarhaṇaḥ destroyer of foes, rāghavaḥ Raghava, nahataḥ not killed.

"O Sita! One who is endowed with long rounded arms and broad chest, a valorous one, a glorious wielder of bow and powerful Rama along with his brother Lakshmana, is always a protector of himself and all surrounding him. He is a knower of sastras of propriety. Raghava is majestic with inconceivable courage and a destroyer of foes. He will not be killed."
ayuktabuddhikṛtyēnasarvabhūtavirōdhinā .

ihapramuktāraudrēṇamāyāmāyāvidātvayi ।।6.33.14।।


ayuktabuddhikṛtyēna by perverse thought, sarvabhūtavirōdhinā inimical to all beings, raudrēṇa in anger, māyāvidā a tricker, iha here, tvayi at you, māyā trick/cheating, prayuktā attempted.

"On account of his perverse thought and being inimical to all beings Ravana a tricker has attempted a trick at you in anger."
śōkastēvigatassarvaḥkalyāṇaṅtvāmupasthitam .

dhruvaṅtvāṅbhajatēlakṣmīḥpriyaṅtēprītikaraṅśṛṇuḥ ।।6.33.15।।


tē your, śōkaḥ grief, vigataḥ gone, sarvakalyāṇam all auspicious, tvām to you, upasthitam awaits, lakṣmīḥ Lakshmi, dhruvam surely, tvām you, bhajatē attain, tē to you, priyam pleasant, prītikaraṅ happy, śṛṇu hear.

"Your sorrow has gone. All auspiciousness awaits you. Surely you will attain good fortune (Lakshmi). You listen to my happy and pleasant news."
uttīryasāgaraṅrāmassahavānarasēnayā .

sanniviṣṭaḥsamudrasyatīramāsādyadakṣiṇam ।।6.33.16।।


rāmaḥ Rama, vānarasēnayāsaha accompanied by Vanara army, sāgaram ocean, uttīrya cross, samudrasya of the ocean, dakṣiṇaṅtīram southern shore, āsādya reached, sanniviṣṭaḥ staying.

"Rama accompanied by Vanara army has crossed the ocean and reached the southern shore of the ocean."
dṛṣṭōmēparipūrṇārthaḥkākutsthassahalakṣmaṇaḥ .

sahitaissāgarāntasthairbalaistiṣṭhatirakṣitaḥ ।।6.33.17।।


paripūrṇārthaḥ fully accomplished soul, sahalakṣmaṇaḥ accompanied by Lakshmana, kākutstha Kakuthsa, mē myself, dṛṣṭaḥ seen, sāgarāntasthaiḥ sea shore, sahitaiḥ together with, balaiḥ army, rakṣitaḥ protected, tiṣṭhati stationed.

"Rama, a fully accomplished soul accompanied by Lakshmana together with army stands protected by the army and is stationed on the seashore."
anēnaprēṣitāyēcarākṣasālaghuvikramāḥ .

rāghavastīrṇaityēvapravṛttistairihāhṛtā ।।6.33.18।।

ēṣamantrayatēsarvaissacivaissaharāvaṇaḥ ।।6.33.19।।


viśālākṣī broad -eyed, rākṣasādhipaḥ Rakshasa king, saḥēṣaḥ all the news, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, tām those, pravṛttim What to do, śrutvā hearing, sacivaiḥsaha with friends, mantrayatē with ministers.

"O Broad-eyed Sita! On hearing the news (of Rama crossing) Rakshasa king is holding consultation with ministers about what to do."
itibruvāṇāsaramārākṣasīsītayāsaha .

sarvōdyōgēnasainyānāṅśabdaṅśuśrāvabhairavam ।।6.33.20।।


iti thus, sītayāsaha with Sita, bruvāṇā while speaking, rākṣasī rakshasi, saramā Saarana, sainyānām by the army, sarvōdyōgēna all kinds of attempts, bhairavam frightening, śabdam sound, śuśrāva heard.

While Saarana was speaking to Sita, frightening sounds of the army making all kinds of attempts were heard.
daṇḍanirghātavādinyāśrutvābhēryāmahāsvanam .

uvācasaramāsītāmidaṅmadhurabhāṣiṇī ।।6.33.21।।


madhurabhāṣiṇī of sweet talk, saramā Saarana, daṇḍanirghātavādinyāḥ sounds of army maces and rods, bhēryāḥ drums, mahāsvanam loud sounds, śrutvā hearing, sītām to Sita, idam thus, uvāca spoke.

On hearing the loud sounds of army maces, rods, and drums, Saarana looked at Sita and spoke these sweet words.
sannāhajananīhyēṣābhairavābhīru: bhērikā .

bhērīnādaṅcagambhīraṅśṛṇutōyadaniḥsvanam ।।6.33.22।।


bhīru timid, bhairavā fear, ēṣā these, bhērikā of drums, sannāhajananīhi to let the army start, tōyadaniḥsvanam sound of rain clouds, gambhīram very penetrating, bhērīnādaṅca sound of drums, śṛṇu listen.

"O Timid Sita! Listen to the deep penetrating sounds of drums like the rumbling of rain clouds signifying the preparations of the army."
kalpyantēmattamātaṅgāyujyantērathavājina .

hṛṣyantēturagārūḍhāḥprāsahastassahasraśaḥ ।।6.33.23।।


mattamātaṅgāḥ elephants in rut, kalpyantē decorating, rathavājinaḥ charioteers, yujyantē getting ready for war, sahasraśaḥ in thousands, prāsahastāḥ discharging darts from hand s, turagārūḍhāḥ getting on the horses, hṛṣyantē happily/laughing loudly.

"Elephants in rut are being decorated, charioteers are getting ready for war in thousands and discharging darts from hands and laughing loudly."
tatratatracasannaddhāssapatatanipadātayaḥ .

apūryantērājamārgāssainyairadbhutadarśanaiḥ ।।6.33.24।।

vēgavabhadinnadabhadiścatōyaughairivasāgaraḥ .


padātayaḥ foot soldiers, sannaddhāḥ prepared, tatratatraca here and there, saṅpatatani collected in groups, adbhutadarśanaiḥ weird appearance, sainyaiḥ troops, vēgavabhadiḥ swiftly, nadabhadiḥca making sounds, tōyaughaiḥ streams of water, sāgaraḥiva like the ocean, rājamārgāḥ royal path, apūryantē strange.

"See the weird appearance of footsoldiers collected here and therein groups prepared to go. The royal path is filled with choking sounds of the troops moving fast, like an ocean filled with streams of water. It is strange."
śastrāṇāṅcaprasannānāṅcarmaṇāṅvarmaṇāṅtathā ।।6.33.25।।

rathavājigajānāṅcabhūṣitānāṅcarākṣasām .

saṅbhramōrākṣasāmēṣahṛṣitānāṅtarasvinām ।।6.33.26।।

prabhāṅvisṛjatāṅpaśyanānāvarṇāṅsamutthitām .

vanaṅnirdhahatōgharmēyathārūpaṅvibhāvasōḥ ।।6.33.27।।


gharmē in summer, vanam forest, nirdahataḥ burning, vibhāvasōḥ the glow, rūpaṅyathā like that, nānāvarṇām in different colours, samutthitām , prabhām brightness, visṛjatām arisen and spread, prasannānām pleasing, śastrāṇām weapons, carmaṇām leather shields, tathā like that, varmaṇām colourful, rākṣasāmēṣa Rakshasa demons rākṣasēnrardāmayāyinām Rakshasa king's heroic army, rathavājigajānāṅ chariots and elephants horses, bhūṣitānāṅ ornaments, tarasvinām powerful, rakṣasām demons, ēṣaḥ that manner, saḥbhramaḥ joyful, paśya see.

"Look at the sheen of weapons, the leather shields, spreading forth different pleasing colours, the brightness of which resembles the burning of forest fire arisen and spread in summer. And here are chariots, horses and elephants decked with ornaments following Ravana, as well as the powerful Rakshasa army full of joy."
ghaṇṭānāṅśṛṇunirghōṣaṅrathānāṅśṛṇuniḥsvanam .

hayānāṅhēṣamāṇānāṅśṛṇutūryadhvaniṅyathā ।।6.33.28।।

udyatāyudhahastānāṅrākṣasēndrānuyāyinām .

sambhramōrakṣasāmēṣatumulōrōmaharṣaṇaḥ ।।6.33.29।।


ghaṇṭānām of bells, nirghōṣam ringing, śṛṇu listen, rathānām of chariots, niḥsvanam rattling, śṛṇu listen, hrēṣamāṇānām neighing, hayānām of horses, tūryadhvaniṅyathā like the flourish of the trumpets, śṛṇu listen, ēṣaḥ in that manner, udyatāyudhahastānām uplifted weapons, rākṣasēndrānuyāyinām following the lead off the king, rakṣasām of Rakshasas, tumulaḥ tumultuous, rōmaharṣaṇaḥ horripilation, sambhramaḥ happy.

"Listen to the bustle of noise of the Rakshasas lifting the weapons, ringing of the bells (of elephants), and rattling of chariots, and neighing of horses. Listen to the flourish of the trumpets. The happy Rakshasas are making tumultuous noise causing horripilation."
śrīstvāṅbhajatiśōkaghnīrakṣasāṅbhayamāgatam .

rāmaḥkamalapatrākṣōdaityānāmivavāsavaḥ ।।6.33.30।।

nirjityajitakrōdhastvāmacintaparākramaḥ .

rāvaṇaṅsamarēhatvābhartātvā.dhigamiṣyati ।।6.33.31।।


śōkaghnī fire of anger, śrīḥ victory, tvām you, bhajati will get you, rakṣasām Rakshasas, bhayam fear, āgatam will come, adaityānām Daityas, vāsavaḥiva like the Lord of Devatas who vanquished Daityas, kamalapatrākṣaḥ lotus petaleyed, bhartā husband, jitakrōdhaḥ who has conquered anger, acnityaparākramaḥ whose process is inconceivable, rāmaḥ Rama, taṅrāvaṇam that Ravana, samarē in war, hatvā killing, tvā you, adhigamiṣyati will win you back.

"Your fire of anger will be gone. Your husband, the lotus-petal eyed Rama whose prowess is inconceivable like that of Indra who vanquished Daityas will come and kill Ravana and win you back."
vikramiṣyatirakṣassubhartātēsahalakṣmaṇaḥ .

yathāśatruṣuśatrughnōviṣṇunāsahavāsavaḥ ।।6.33.32।।


sahalakṣmaṇaḥ accompanied by Lakshmana, tēbhartā your husband, śatrughnaḥ destroy, viṣṇunāsaha along with Vishnu, vāsavaḥ Indra, śatruṣu against enemy, yathā just as, rakṣassu Rakshasas, vikramiṣyati will exhibit his valour.

"Your husband accompanied by Lakshmana will exhibit his valour against Rakshasas just as Indra did against enemies accompanied by Vishnu (descended as his younger brother)."
hirāmasyakṣipramaṅkāgatāṅsatīm .

ahaṅdrakṣyāmisiddhārdhāṅtvāṅśatrauvinipātitē ।।6.33.33।।


śatrau enemy, vinipātitē after killing, siddhārdhām having accomplished, tvām you, āgatavya mounted on, rāmasya Rama's, aṅkāgatāṅsatīm on the lap Rama, kṣipram soon, aham I, drakṣyāmi will behold you.

"When the enemy is killed, and your objective is accomplished, I shall behold you mounted on the lap of Rama."
aśrūṇyānandajānitvaṅvartayiṣyasiśōbhanē .

samāgamyapariṣvajyatasyōrasimahōrasaḥ ।।6.33.34।।


śōbhanē virtuous woman, samāgamya arrived, pariṣvajya hugged, mahōrasaḥ broadchested, tasya his, urasi bosom, ānandajāni tears of joy, aśrūṇyāṇi tears, vartayiṣyasi will shed.

"Virtuous Sita! Hugged by your broad- chested Rama, you will shed tears of joy on his bosom."
acirānmōkṣyatēsītē dēvitējaghanaṅgatām .

dhṛtāmētāmbahūnmāsānvēṇīṅrāmōmahābalaḥ ।।6.33.35।।


sītē O Sita, dēvi God like, mahābalaḥ mighty, rāmaḥ Rama, bahūn many, māsān months, dhṛtām , tē your, ētām , jaghanam your hind part, gatām before, ēkāṅvēṇīm single plait, acirāt very soon, mōkṣyatē will release.

"O Sita! God like lady! Mighty Rama will soon release your single plait hanging up to hind part for many months before."
tasyadṛṣṭavāmukhaṅdēvī pūrṇacandramivōditam .

mōkṣyasēśōkajaṅvārinirmōkamivapannagī ।।6.33.36।।


dēvī God like lady, tasya your, uditam countenance, pūrṇacandram iva like full moon, mukham face, dṛṣṭavā seen, pannagī female snake, nirmōkamiva like setting free the slough, śōkajam born of grief, vāri water, mōkṣyasē casts off.

"God like Lady! Beholding the face of Sri Rama whose face is like a just risen full moon, you will cast off tears of sorrow just as a female snake sets its slough free."
rāvaṇaṅsamarēhatvānacirāddhēvī: maithilī: .

tvayāsamagraḥpriyayāsukhārhōlapsyatēsukham ।।6.33.37।।


dēvī God like lady, maithilī Mythili, sukhārhaḥ who deserves to be happy, nacirāt before long, samarē in war, rāvaṇam Ravana, hatvā killing, priyayā beloved, tvayā you, samagraḥ companion, sukham happiness, lapsyatē will enjoy.

"O divine Mythili! Killing Ravana in war before long, your beloved who deserves to be happy will be happy in the company of his beloved."
samāgatātvaṅvīryēṇamōdiṣyasimahātmanā .

suvarṣēṇasamāyuktāyathāsasyēnamēdinī ।।6.33.38।।


tvam you, suvarṣēṇa with good monsoon, samāyuktā filled with, mēdinī earth, sasyēnayathā just as the crops, mahātmanā great soul, vīryēṇa heroism, samāgatā will become, mōdiṣyati joyful.

"Just as the earth becomes green with crops blessed with good monsoon, so also you will become joyful by seeing the great soul Rama's heroism."
girivaramabhitō.nuvartamānōhayaivamaṇḍalamāśuyaḥkarōti .

tamihaśaraṇamabhyupaihidēvaṅdivasakaraṅprabhavōhyayaṅprajānām ।।6.33.39।।


dēvaṅ God, yaḥ he who, girivaram abhitaḥ coursing round the great mountain, anuvartamānaḥ goes round in circle, hayaḥiva just as the horse, āśu quickly, maṇḍalam circular orb around the sun, karōti does, tam him, divasakaram sun God, iha here, śaraṇam seek refuge, abhyupaihi the nourisher, aṇam cause, prajānām for all beings, prabhavaḥhi provider of splendour.

"Seek refuge of the Sun God who while coursing round the great mountain goes round in circles around the orb swiftly like a horse. He is the source of joy and sorrow for all beings."
।। ityārṣēvālmīkīyēśrīmadrāmāyaṇēādikāvyēyuddhakāṇḍētrayastriṅśassargaḥ ।।
