Sloka & Translation

[Sri Rama warns Sugriva against such action being a king and commands Vanara army generals to besiege all the four gates of Lanka. Angada is sent to Ravana to communicate Rama's message that unless Ravana returns Sita back to Rama, he will be killed and Vibheeshana will be made the king of Lanka.]

athatasminnimittānidṛṣṭavālakṣmaṇapūrvajaḥ .

sugrīvaṅsampariṣvajyatathāvacanamabravīt ।।6.41.1।।


atha and then, lakṣmaṇapūrvajaḥ Lakshmana's brother, tathā likewise, tasmin for his, nimittāni signs, dṛṣṭavā seeing, sugrīvam in Sugriva, saṅpariṣvajya embraced, vacanam these words, abravīt spoke.

Rama, brother of Lakshmana, seeing the signs of war, embraced Sugriva and spoke these words.
asantṟyamayāsārthaṅtadidaṅsāhasaṅkṛtam .

ēvaṅsāhasuktāninakurvantijanēśvarāḥ ।।6.41.2।।


mayāsārtham with me, asantṟya consulting, tat that, idam thus, sāhasam boldly, kṛtam done, janēśvarāḥ rulers, ēvam in this way, sāhasayuktāni courageous actions, nakurvanti do not do.

"You have done this courageous feat without consulting me. Rulers do not do such actions."
saṅśayēsthāpyamāṅcēdaṅbalaṅcasavibhīṣaṇam .

kaṣṭaṅkṛtamidaṅvīra sāhasaṅsāhasapriya ।।6.41.3।।


sāhasapriya one who is fond of daring action, vīra hero, māṅca for me, idam this, balaṅca army also, savibhīṣaṇaṅca and also Vibheeshana, saṅśayē doubt, sthāpya created, kaṣṭam difficult, idam this, sāhasam bold action, kṛtam performed by you.

"O hero, who is fond of daring actions! To me, to the army and Vibheeshana you created a great doubt by this bold action of yours."
idānīṅmākṛthāvīra ēvaṅvidhamacintitam .

tvayikiñcitsamāpannēkiṅkāryaṅsītayāmama ।।6.41.4।।

bharatēnamahābāhō lakṣmaṇēnayavīyasā .

śatrughnēnacaśatrughnasvaśarīrēṇavāpuna:।। 6.41.5।।


arindama tamer of foes, vīra hero, idānīm here after, ēvaṅvidham this kind of, mākṛthāḥ not do, mahābāhō broad shouldered, śatrughna destroyer of foes, tvayi your, kiñcit even a little, samāpannē harm, mama my, sītayā Sita, bharatēna also Bharata, yavīyasā, lakṣmaṇēna even Lakshmana, śatrughnēna and Satrughna also, svaśarīrēṇavā my own body punaḥ again, kiṅkāryam What is the use?

"O broad shouldered hero, tamer of foes! Do not do this kind of action. Even if you were harmed a bit, O destroyer of foes, of what use is it to me or even to Sita, Bharata, Satrughna or to Lakshmana or even to my body?"
tvayicānāgatēpūrvamitimēniścitāmatiḥ .

jānataścāpitēvīryaṅmahēndravaruṇōsama ।।6.41.6।।

hatvā.haṅrāvaṇaṅyuddhēsaputrabalavāhanam .

abhiṣicyacalaṅkāyāṅvibhīṣaṇamathāpica ।।6.41.7।।

bharatērājyamāvēśyatyakṣyēdēhaṅmahābala .


mahēndravaruṇōsama resembling Indra and Varuna, mahābala mighty, tvayi your, anāgatē before arrival, tē your, vīryam valour, jānataścāpi even though known, mē to me, matiḥ mind, pūrvam earlier, niścitā decided, aham I, yuddhē in battle, saputrabalavāhanam sons and relatives, rāvaṇam of Ravana, hatvā killing, vibhīṣaṇam to Vibheeshana, laṅkāyām Lanka, abhiṣicya coronate, athāpica myself, bharatē to Bharata, rājyam kingdom, ārōpya handing over, dēham body, tyakṣyē give up.

"Mighty Sugriva! You resemble Indra and Varuna in might. Your valour is known to me. I have decided in my mind to kill the sons of Ravana and his relatives in battle, coronate Vibheeshana in Lanka, and hand over the kingdom to Bharata and give up my body."
tamēvaṅvādinaṅrāmaṅsugrīvaḥpratyabhāṣata ।।6.41.8।।

tavabhāryāpahartāraṅdṛṣṭavārāghava rāvaṇam .

marṣayāmikathaṅvīrajānapauruṣamātmanaḥ ।।6.41.9।।


ēvaṅvādinam told in that manner, tam by, rāmam Rama, sugrīvaḥ to Sugriva, pratyabhāṣata replied, vīra hero, rāghava Raghava, tava your, bhāryāpahartāram borne away your consort, rāvaṇam Ravana, dṛṣṭavā seeing, ātmanaḥ I myself, balam strength, jānan knowing, katham how can, marṣayāmi tolerate.

To Rama who was speaking in that manner, Sugriva replied, "Heroic Rama! Seeing that Ravana, who has borne away your consort, and knowing my own strength, how can I tolerate?"
ityēvaṅvādinaṅvīramabhinandyacarāghavaḥ .

lakṣmaṇaṅlakṣīsampannamidaṅvacanamabravīt ।।6.41.10।।


rāghavaḥ Raghava, ityēvaṅvādinam thus spoken, vīram hero, abhinandya applauding, lakṣmisampannam endowed with prosperity, lakṣmaṇam to Lakshmana, idam these, vacanam words, abravīt spoke.

Raghava heard the hero Sugriva, applauding him and spoke these words to Lakshmana, who was endowed with prosperity.
parigṛhyōdakaṅśītaṅvanāniphalavantica .

balaughaṅsaṅvibhajyēmaṅvyūhyatiṣṭhēmalakṣmaṇa ।।6.41.11।।


lakṣmaṇa Lakshmana, śītam cool, udakam water, phalavanti good fruits, vanānica woods, parigṛhya occupying, imam this, balaugham army, saṅvibhajya divide, vyūhya plan, tiṣṭhāma be ready.

"Lakshmana! We should occupy a region with cool water and good fruits and plan to divide the army and be ready."
lōkakṣayakaraṅbhīmaṅbhayaṅpaśyāmyupasthitam .

nibarhaṇaṅpravīrāṇāmṛkṣavānararakṣasām ।।6.41.12।।


lōkakṣayakaram that which bodes destruction of the world, bhīmam terrific, pravīrāṇām eminent heroes, ṛkṣavānararakṣasām to Bears, monkeys and Rakshasas, nibarhaṇam danger, bhayam fear, upasthitam approaching, paśyāmi see.

"I foresee the terrific destruction of eminent heroes among Bears, monkeys and Rakshasas. I see the danger approaching."
vātāścahiparuṣāṅvāntikampatēcavasundharā .

parvatāgrāṇivēpantēpatantidharaṇīdharāḥ ।।6.41.13।।


vātāḥ winds, paruṣam severely, vānti blowing, vasundharāca in the earth, kampatē quacking, parvatāgrāṇi mountain peaks, vēpantē shaking, dharaṇīdharāḥ those elephants bearing the earth, patanti falling.

"The winds are blowing severely, the earth is quaking in, the mountain peaks are shaking, and the elephants bearing the earth (in the four corners) are falling."
mēghāḥkravādasaṅkāśāḥparuṣāḥparuṣasvanāḥ .

krūrāḥkrūraṅpravarṣantimiśraṅśōṇitabindubhiḥ ।।6.41.14।।


kranādasaṅkāśāḥ like wild birds, paruṣāḥ harsh, paruṣasvanāḥ producing harsh sounds, krūrāḥ fierce, mēghāḥ clouds, krūram terrific, śōṇitabindhubhiḥ blood drops, miśram mixed with, pravarṣanti raining

"The fierce clouds resembling wild birds are making terrible harsh sounds and rain mixed with drops of blood is showering."
raktacandanasaṅkāśāsandhyāparamadāruṇā .

jvalaccanipatatyētadādityādagnimaṇḍalam ।।6.41.15।।


raktacandanasaṅkāśā resembling red sanders, sandhyā twilight, paramadāruṇā very frightening, ādityāt from Sun, jvalat fire, ētat all this, agnimaṇḍalam like mass of fire, vipatati falling down.

"The twilight appears like red sander trees, the burning fire falling from the sun is like a mass of fire and frightening."
ādityamabhivāśyantijanayantōmahadbhayam .

dīnādīnasvarāḥghōrānapraśastāmṛgadvijāḥ ।।6.41.16।।


dīnāḥ desperate, dīnasvarāḥ crying pitifully, ghōrāḥ dreadful, napraśastāḥ inauspicious, mṛgadvijāḥ ominous beasts, mahat great, bhayam fear, janayantaḥ creating, ādityam from Sun, abhivāśyanti facing the Sun.

"The desperate inauspicious sounds of ominous beasts crying pitifully facing the sun are causing great fear."
rajanyāmaprakāśaścasantāpayaticandramāḥ .

kṛṣṇaraktāṅśuparyantōyathālōkasyasaṅkṣyē ।।6.41.17।।


lōkasya of the universe, saṅkṣyēyathā like the dissolution, kṛṣṇaraktāṅśuparyantaḥ surrounded with black and red halo, aprakāśaḥ not radiant, candramāḥ the moon, rajanyām in the night, santāpayati tormented.

"Like at the time of universal dissolution, the moon is not radiant, being surrounded by black and red halo at night and is tormenting."
hrasvōrūkṣō.praśastaścaparivēṣassulōhitaḥ .

ādityamaṇḍalēnīlaṅlakṣmalakṣmaṇa dṛśyatē ।।6.41.18।।


lakṣmaṇa Lakshmana, ādityamaṇḍalē Sun 's orbit, hrasvaḥ shortened, rūkṣaḥ dreary, apraśastaḥ inauspicious, sulōhitaḥ copper coloured, parivēṣaḥ surrounding, nīlam dark, lakṣma seen, lakṣayatē observable.

"Lakshmana! Short dark spot observed in the Sun 's orbit is inauspicious. moon is surrounded by copper colour and dreary."
dṛśyantēnayathāvacchanakṣatrāṇyabhivartatē .

yugāntamivalōkasyapaśyalakṣmaṇa śaṅsati ।।6.41.19।।


lakṣmaṇa Lakshmana, nakṣatrāṇi even stars, yathāvat so also, nadṛśyantē not visible, lōkasya in the universe, yugāntam end of the universe, śaṅsatīva spots on the moon, abhivartatē dirty, paśya seen.

"Just as the spots on the moon, the stars are also dirty and not visible. It forebodes the end of the universe Lakshmana!"
kākāśyēnāstathāgṛdhrānīcaiḥparipatantica .

śivāścāpyaśivāvācaḥpravadantimahāsvanāḥ ।।6.41.20।।


kākāḥ crows, śyēnāḥ hawks, tathā so also, gṛdhrāḥ vultures, nīcaiḥ lowly, paripatantica joining, mahāsvanāḥ in loud tone, śivāśca jackals, aśivāśca inauspicious, aśubhāḥ not good, vācaḥ sounds, pravadanti making.

"The crows, hawks and also vultures are joining lowly animals like jackals and making loud noises which is inauspicious and not good."
kṣipramadyadurādharṣāṅlaṅkāṅrāvaṇapālitām .

abhiyāmajavēnaivasarvatōharibhirvṛtāḥ ।।6.41.21।।


haribhiḥ Vanaras, vṛtāḥ accompanied by, adya now, kṣipram immediately, durādharṣam difficult to attack, rāvaṇapālitām ruled by Ravana, laṅkām Lanka, sarvataḥ all, javēnaiva with good speed, abhiyāma march forward.

śailaiḥśūlaiścakhaḍagaiścavimukssaiḥkapirākṣasaiḥ .

bhaviṣyatyāvṛtābhūmirmāṅsaśōṇitakardamā ।।6.41.22।।


kapirākṣasaiḥ by Vanaras and Rakshasas, vimukssaiḥ hurled, śailaiḥ rocks, śūlaiśca tridents, khaḍagaiśca swords, bhūmiḥ the earth, āvṛtā covered, māṅsaśōṇitakardamā with flesh and blood, bhaviṣyati will remain.

"The land will remain covered by rocks, tridents, swords hurled by the Vanaras and Rakshasas and with flesh and blood."
ityēvaṅtuvadavanīrvōlakṣmaṇaṅlakṣmaṇāgrajaḥ .

tasmādavātaracchīghraṅparvatāgrānmahābalaḥ ।।6.41.23।।


vīraḥ hero, mahābalaḥ mighty, lakṣmaṇāgrajaḥ Lakshmana's elder brother, ityēvam in this manner, lakṣmaṇam to Lakshmana, vadan said, tasmāt from there, parvatāgrāt peak of the mountain, śīghram without delay, avātarat descended.

Mighty hero Rama, (the elder brother of Lakshmana) said to Lakshmana in this manner (as described earlier) and descended from the peak of the mountain without delay.
avatīryacadharmātmātasmācchailātsarāghavaḥ .

paraiḥparamadurdharṣaṅdadarśabalamātmanaḥ ।।6.41.24।।


dharmātmāca righteous, saḥrāghavaḥ that Raghava, tasmāt śailāt from the mountain, avatīrya climbing down, paraiḥ foes, paramadurdharṣam very difficult to assail, ātmanaḥ in the mind, balam army strength, dadarśa reviewed.

Climbing down the mountain, the righteous Rama reviewed in his mind the strength of his army and the enemy which is difficult to assail.
sannahyatusasugrīvaḥkapirājabalaṅmahat .

kālajñōrāghavaḥkālēsaṅyugāyābhyacōdayat ।।6.41.25।।


sasugrīvaḥ Sugriva, kālajñaḥ knower of when to do, rāghavaḥ Raghava, mahat great, kapirājabalam army of Vanaras, sannahya ready, kālē time, saṅyugāya motivated, abhyacōdayat ordered.

Raghava, who is knowledgeable of when to do what, motivated the army of Vanaras and Sugriva and ordered.
tataḥkālēmahābāhurbalēnamahatāvṛtaḥ .

prasthitaḥpuratōdhavanīlaṅkāmabhimukhaḥpurīm ।।6.41.26।।


tataḥ then, mahābāhuḥ broad shouldered, mahatā great, balēna army, vṛtaḥ surrounded by, purataḥ in front, dhavanī early morning, kālē time, laṅkāṅpurīṅ Lanka, abhimukhaḥ towards, prasthitaḥ proceeded.

Surrounded by a large army in front, the broad shouldered Rama proceeded towards Lanka.
taṅvibhīṣaṇasugrīvauhanūmāñjāmbavānnaḷa .

ṛkṣarājastathānīlōlakṣmaṇaścānvayustadā ।।6.41.27।।


tadā then, vibhīṣaṇasugrīvau Vibheeshana and Sugriva, hanumān Hanuman, ṛkṣarājaḥ king of Bears, jāmbavān Jambavan, nalaḥ Nala, tathā in the same way, nīlaḥ Neela, lakṣmaṇaśca and Lakshmana, tam them, anvayuḥ followed.

Then Vibheeshana, Sugriva, Hanuman, Jambavan, Nala, Neela in the same way Lakshmana followed.
tataḥpaśacātsumahatīpṛtanar kṣavanaukasām .

pracchādyamahatīṅbhūmimanuyātismarāghavam ।।6.41.28।।


tataḥ then, ṛkṣavanaukasām bears and monkeys, mahatī great, pṛtanā land mahatīm all over, bhūmim land, pracchādya covering, rāghavam Rama, anuyātisma followed paśacātsu behind.

Then the bears, monkeys, covering all over the land went behind Rama.
śailaśṛṅgāṇiśataśaḥpravṛddhāṅścamahīruhān .

jagṛhuḥkuñjaraprakhyāvānarāḥparavāraṇāḥ ।।6.41.29।।


paravāraṇāḥ capable of warding off the enemy, kuñjaraprakhyāḥ whose body were the size of elephants, vānarāḥ monkeys, śailaśṛṅgāṇi mountain peaks, pravṛddhān fully grown, śataśaḥ in hundreds, mahīruhān huge trees, jagṛhuḥ bore in their hands.

The monkeys who were of the size of elephants capable of warding off the enemy, bore huge grown up trees in their hands and went.
tautvadīrghēṇakālēnabhrātaraurāmalakṣmaṇau .

rāvaṇasyapurīṅlaṅkāmasēdaturarindamau ।।6.41.30।।


arindamau tamers of foes, bhrātarau the two brothers, rāmalakṣmaṇau Rama and Lakshmana, adīrghēṇa in a short, kālēna time, rāvaṇasya Ravana's, purīm city, laṅkām of Lanka, āsēdatuḥ reached.

In a short while the two brothers Rama and Lakshmana, tamers of foes reached the city of Lanka.
patākāmālinīṅramyāmudyānavanaśōbhitām .

citravaprāsuduṣprāpamuccaiḥprākāratōraṇām ।।6.41.31।।

tāṅsurairapidurdharṣāṅrāmavākyapracōditāḥ .

yathānidēśaṅsampīḍyanyaviśantavanaukasaḥ ।।6.41.32।।


rāmavākyapracōditāḥ commanded by Rama's words, vanaukasaḥ gardens, patākāmālinīm decorated with flags, ramyām beautiful to look at, udyānavanaśōbhitām embellished with gardens, citravasrām wonderful, suduṣprāpām defensive walls, uccaiḥ tall prākāratōraṇām archways of boundary, surairapi even for Devatas, durdharṣām difficult to access, tām they, yathānidēśam as ordained, sampīḍya remaining, nyaviśanta entered.

Commanded by Rama's words the Vanaras remaining in their positions as ordained, entered the wonderful Lanka, which was decorated with flags, embellished with gardens. The defensive walls and arches of the boundary of Lanka were difficult to access even for Devatas.
laṅkāyāstūttaraṅdvāraṅśailaśṛṅgamivōnnatam .

rāmaḥsahānujōdhanvījugōpacarurōdhaca ।।6.41.33।।


sahānujaḥ accompanied by his brother, rāmaḥ Rama, dhanvī armed with bow, laṅkāyāḥ into Lanka, śailaśṛṅgamivōnnatam like a lofty mountain peak, tam that, uttaradvāram northern gate, jugōpa blocked, rurōdhaca protected.

Accompanied by his brother Lakshmana, Rama, armed with bow, blocked the northern gate of Lanka which was like a lofty mountain peak and protected.
laṅkāmupaniviṣṭasturāmōdaśarathātmajaḥ .

lakṣmaṇānucarōvīraḥpurīṅrāvaṇapālitām ।।6.41.34।।

uttaradvāramāsādyayatratiṣṭhatirāvaṇaḥ .

nānyōrāmāddhitad dvāraṅsamarthaḥparirakṣitum ।।6.41.35।।

sāyuthairākṣasairbhīmairabhiguptaṅsamantataḥ .

laghūnāṅtrāsajananaṅpātāḷamivadānavaiḥ ।।6.41.36।।


daśarathātmajaḥ Dasaratha's son, lakṣmaṇānucaraḥ follower Lakshmana, vīraḥ heroic, rāmaḥ Rama, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, yatra there, tiṣṭhati settled, uttaradvāram at northern gate, āsādya having reached, rāvaṇapālitām ruled by Ravana, tam that, varuṇēna by Varuna, sāgaram iva like an ocean, bhīmam frightening, sāyudhaiḥ guarded by,bhīmaiḥ terrific, rākṣasaiḥ Rakshasa, samantataḥ all over, abhiguptam secretly hidden, dānavaiḥ Rakshasas, pātāḷamiva like subterranean, laghūnām small pieces, trāsajananam numerous, tat dvāram that gateway, parirakṣitum highly protected, rāmāt by Rama, anyaḥ other than, nasamarthaḥhi not possible.

(Dasaratha's son) Rama who had Lakshmana as follower reached the northern gate protected by Ravana. Just as the ocean is guarded by Varuna, it was guarded by terrific Rakshasas, who were secretly hiding all over like the Rakshasas in the subterranean region with small amounts of numerous armours for protection. It was not possible for anyone other than Rama to enter.
vinyastānicayōdhānāṅbahūnivividhānica .

dadarśā.yudhajālānitatraivakavacānica ।।6.41.37।।


yōdhānām for the combatants of war, vinyastāni of every kind, bahūni numerous, vividhānica and different kind, āyudhajālāni weapons, tathaiva so also, kavacānica and shields, dadarśa saw.

Rama Saw there, numerous weapons of every kind so also shields for the combatants of war.
pūrvaṅtudvāramāsādyanīlōharicamūpatiḥ .

atiṣṭhatsahamaindēnadvividēnacavīryavān ।।6.41.38।।


haricamūpatiḥ commander of the army of monkeys, vīryavān valiant one, nīlaḥ Neela, maindēna Mainda saha and also, dvividēnacasaha Dwivida also, pūrvaṅdvāram east gate, āsādya reached, atiṣṭhat remained there.

Neela the commander-in-chief of the army of monkeys, a valiant one, also Dwivida, and Mainda reached the east gate and remained there.
aṅgadōdakṣiṇadvāraṅjagrāhasumahābalaḥ .

ṛṣabhēṇagavākṣēṇagajēnagavayēnaca ।।6.41.39।।


sumahābalaḥ of great prowess, aṅgadaḥ Angada, ṛṣabhēṇa with Rshaba, gavākṣēṇa and Gavaksha, gajēna Gaja, gavayēnaca and Gavaya, dakṣiṇadvāram south gate, jagrāha reached.

Angada endowed with great prowess along with Rshaba, Gavaksha, Gaja, and Gavaya reached the south gate.
hanumān paścimadvāraṅrarakṣabalavānkapiḥ .

pramāthipraṣubhyāṅcavīrairanyaiścasaṅgataḥ ।।6.41.40।।


balavān mighty, kapiḥ monkey, hanumān Hanuman, pramāthipraṣubhyāṅca Pramati and Praghasa, anyaiḥ and others, vīraiśca heroes, saṅgataḥ united with, paścimadvāram west gate, rarakṣa protected.

Mighty monkey Hanuman united with heroes Pramati and Praghasa and others protected the west gate.
madhyamēcasvayaṅgulmēsugrīvassamatiṣṭhata .

sahasarvairhariśrēṣṭhaissuparṇaśvasanōpamaiḥ ।।6.41.41।।


sugrīvaḥ Sugriva, sarvaiḥ all, suparṇaśvasanōpamaiḥ equal to Garuda of beautiful wings endowed with wind speed, hariśrēṣṭhaiḥ chief and best of monkey army, svayam himself, madhyamē middle, gulmē post, samatiṣṭhata remained.

Sugriva chief of all army and best of the monkey army who was equal to Garuda of beautiful wings, endowed with wind speed remained in the middle (of north and west) post.
vānarāṇāṅtuṣaṭitraṅśatkōṭyaḥprakhyātayūthapāḥ .

nipīḍyōpaniviṣṭāścasugrīvōyatravānaraḥ ।।6.41.42।।


prakhyātayūthapāḥ renowned generals, vānarāṇām of the Vanaras, ṣaṭitraṅśatkōṭyaḥ thirty six crores, vānaraḥ Vanara, sugrīvaḥ Sugriva, yatra there, nipīḍya stood, upaniviṣṭāḥ camped.

Renowned generals of the Vanara army and thirtysix crores of Vanaras stood there camping.
śāsanēnaturāmasyalakṣmaṇassavibhīṣaṇaḥ .

dvārēdvārēharīṇāṅtukōṭiṅkōṭiṅnyavēśayēt ।।6.41.43।।


savibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, lakṣmaṇaḥ Lakshmana, rāmasya by Rama's, śāsanēna command, dvārēdvārē crores and crores, harīṇām Vanaras, kōṭiṅkōṭim crores and crores, nyavēśayat posted as per need.

By the command of Rama, Vibheeshana accompanied by Lakshmana posted crores and crores of Vanaras there.
paścimēnaturāmasyasuṣēṇaḥsahajāmbavān ।।6.41.44।।

ādūrānmadhyamēgulmētasthaubahubalānugaḥ .


suṣēṇaḥ Sushena, sahajāmbavān along with Jambavan, bahubalānugaḥ with large army, rāmasya by Rama, paścimēna at the west, adūrāt not far from, madhyamēgulmē in the centre, tasthau at the back.

Sushena along with Jambavan and a large army of Vanaras were posted in the centre not far from Rama at the west by Rama's order.
tētuvānaraśārdhūlāḥśārdūlāivadaṅṣṭriṇaḥ ।।6.41.45।।

gṛhītvādrumaśailāgrānhṛṣṭāyuddhāyatasthirē .


śārdūlāḥiva resembling tiger, daṅṣṭriṇaḥ endowed with sharp teeth, tē they, vānaraśārdūlāḥ tigers among Vanaras, hṛṣṭāḥ joyfully, drumaśailāgrān trees and peaks of mountains, gṛhītvā holding, yuddhāya to combat, tasthirē waited.

Vanaras who resembled tigers, endowed with sharp teeth joyfully stood there holding trees and peaks of mountain waiting to combat.
sarvēvikṛtalāṅgūlāssarvēdaṅṣṭrānakhāyudhā:।। 6.41.46।।

sarvēvikṛtacitrāṅgāssarvēcavikṛtānanāḥ .


sarvē all, vikṛtālāṅgūlāḥ unusually lifted up, sarvē all, daṅṣṭrānakhāyudhā: had their teeth and nails as weapons, sarvē all, vikṛtacitrāṅgāḥ unnatural faces, sarvēca and all, vikṛtānanāḥ distorted eyes.

All had their tails lifted unusually, had their nails and teeth sharp as weapons, some had unnatural face, and all of them had distorted eyes (as in fury).
daśanāgabalāḥkēcitkēciddhaśaguṇōttarāḥ ।।6.41.47।।

kēcinnāgasahasrasyababhūvustulyavikramāḥ .


kēcit a few, daśanāgabalāḥ strength of ten elephants, kēcit some, daśaguṇōttarāḥ ten times more strong than others, kēcit a few, nāgasahasrasya equal to thousand elephants in strength, tulyavikramāḥ endowed with great strength, babhūvuḥ were.

A few of them were having the strength of ten elephants, some had ten times more than others, and a few were endowed with great strength equal to thousand elephants.
santicaughabalāḥkēcitkēcicchataguṇōttarāḥ ।।6.41.48।।

apramēyabalāścānyētatrāsanhariyūthapāḥ

kēcit few, ōghabalāḥ strength of an ogha, kēcit some, śataguṇōttarāḥ hundred times more, santi still, tatra there, anyē others, hariyūthapāḥ monkey commanders, apramēyābalāśca immeasurable strength, āsan possessed.

Few monkeys had strength of an ogha, some had a hundred times more, and the monkey commanders possessed immeasurable strength.
adbhutaścavicitraścatēṣāmāsītsamāgamaḥ ।।6.41.49।।

tatravānarasainyānāṅśalabhānāmivōdyamaḥ .


tatra there, śalabhānām in that place, udyamaḥiva like locusts, tēṣām they, vānarasainyānām Vanara army, samāgamaḥ gathered, adbhutaśca amazing, vicitraśca astonishing, āsīt seemed.

There it seemed as if a flight of locusts had gathered, with monkey army gathered there. It was amazing and astonishing.
pratipūrṇamivākāśaṅsañchannēvacamēdinī ।।6.41.50।।

laṅkāpumaniviṣṭaiścasampatadbhiścavānaraiḥ .


laṅkām in Lanka, upaniviṣṭaiḥ settled, vānaraiḥ with Vanara, sampatadbhiśca already staying, ākāśam the sky, pratipūrṇamiva fully around like, mēdinīca on the land, sañchannē covering.

Vanaras settled in such a way all around Lanka completely covering the land with those already at Lanka.
śataṅśatasahasrāṇāṅpṛthagṛkṣavanaukasām ।।6.41.51।।

laṅkādvārāṅayupājagmuranyēyōddhuṅsamantataḥ .


ṛkṣavanaukasām bears and monkeys, śatasahasrāṇām a hundred thousand, śatam a hundred, pṛthak several, anyē others, samantataḥ gathered, laṅkādvārāṇi at the gates of Lanka, yōddhum to fight, upājagmuḥ proceeded.

A hundred thousand bars and monkeys and several others already gathered at the gates of Lanka to fight proceeded.
āvṛtassagirissarvaissaissamantāt plavaṅgamaiḥ ।।6.41.52।।

ayutānāṅsahasraṅcapurīṅtāmabhyavartata .


saḥgiriḥ that mountain, samantāt all over, taiḥ those, plavaṅgamaiḥ monkeys, āvṛtaḥ surrounded, ayutānām boundary, sahasram all over, tām them, purīm city, abhyavartata to collect information.

All over the mountain the monkeys surrounded the boundary wall of Lanka city to collect information.
vānarairbalavadbhiścababhūvadrumapāṇibhiḥ ।।6.41.53।।

samvṛtāsarvatōlaṅkāduṣpravēśā.pivāyunā .


drumapāṇibhiḥ with uprooted trees, balavadbhiḥ might, vānaraiḥ Vanaras, sarvataḥ everywhere, samvṛtā occupied, laṅkā Lanka, vāyunāpi even for wind, duṣpravēśā difficult to enter, babhūva appeared.

Mighty Vanaras holding uprooted trees occupied everywhere and it seemed difficult for even wind to enter Lanka.
rākṣasāvismayaṅjagmuḥsahasā.bhinipīḍitāḥ ।।6.41.54।।

vānarairmēghasaṅkāśaiśśakratulyaparākramaiḥ .


mēghasaṅkāśaiḥ clouds, śakratulyaparākramaiḥ Indra of great valour, vānaraiḥ Vanaras, sahasā equalled, abhinipīḍitāḥ caught, rākṣasāḥ Rakshasa, vismayam wondered, jagmuḥ gave way.

Caught by Vanaras like clouds and equalled Indra in valour gave way to wonder for the Rakshasas.
mahān śabdō.bhavattatrabalaughasyābhivartataḥ ।।6.41.55।।

sāgarasyēvabhinnasyayathāsyātsalilasvanaḥ .


tatra thereafter, bhinnasya divisions, sāgarasyēva like the ocean, balaughasya on the mountain peak, abhivartataḥ appeared, salilasvanaḥ roaring sound of water, yathā like that, syāt , mahān great, śabdaḥ sound, abhavat appeared.

Thereafter with the divisions of the Vanara army moving like the ocean on the mountain peak, appeared like the roaring sound of water in the ocean moving out of boundary.
tēnaśabdēnamahatāsaprākārāsatōraṇā ।।6.41.56।।

laṅkāpracalitāsarvāsaśailavanakānanā .


mahatā great, tēnaśabdēna by that sound, saprākārā that boundary, satōraṇā the archways, saśailavanakānanā mountains forests, sarvā all, laṅkā Lanka, pracalitā shook violently.

By the great sound the boundary, the archways and the mountains and forests shook violently.
rāmalakṣmaṇaguptāsāsugrīvēṇacavāhinī ।।6.41.57।।

babhūvadurdharṣatarāsarvairapisurāsuraiḥ .


rāmalakṣmaṇaguptā protected by Rama and Lakshmana, sugrīvēṇaca and Sugriva, sā that, harivāhinī monkey army, sarvaiḥ all, surāsurairapi Rakshasas and Devatas, durdharṣatarā highly difficult, babhūva became.

Protected by Rama and Lakshmana and Sugriva that an army of monkeys became difficult to assail even for Rakshasas and Devatas.
rāghavaḥsannivēśyaivaṅsvasainyaṅrakṣasāṅvadhē ।।6.41.58।।

sammantṟyamantribhissārthaṅniścityacapunaḥpunaḥ .

ānantaryamabhiprēpsuḥkramayōgārthatattvavit ।।6.41.59।।

vibhīṣaṇasyānumatērājadharmamanusmaran .

aṅgadaṅvālitanayaṅsamāhūyēdamabravīt ।।6.41.60।।


kramayōgārthatattvavit deliberating the action repeatedly, rāghavaḥ Raghava, svam himself, sainyam army, rakṣasām Rakshasas, vadhē to kill, ēvam in the same way, saṅnivēśya gathering together, mantribhiḥ even ministers sārtham all of them, punaḥpunaḥ again and again, sammantṟya discussing, niścitya decision taken, anantaryam later, abhiprēpsuḥ recalling rājadharmam king's duty, anusmaran calling, vibhīṣaṇasya with Vibhishana, anumatē per mission, vālitanayam Vali's son, aṅgadam Angada, samāhūya summoning, idam these words, abravīt spoke.

Deliberating on the action to be taken to kill the Rakshasas, Raghava himself called the army and gathered them and the ministers all of them again and again discussed and took the decision. Later recalling the king's duty with Vibheeshana, summoned Vali's son Angada and spoke these words.
gatvāsaumya daśagrīvaṅbrūhimadvacanātkapē .

laṅghayitvāpurīṅlaṅkāṅbhayaṅtyaktvāgatavyadhaḥ ।।6.41.61।।

bhraṣṭaśrīka gataiśvarya mumūrṣō naṣṭacētanaḥ .


saumya noble, kapē monkey, laṅkāṅpurīm Lanka's, laṅghayitvā crossing over, bhayam fear, tyaktvā giving up, gatavyadhaḥ past difficulty, bhraṣṭaśrīka lost sovereignty, gataiśvarya fallen out of past fortune, mumūrṣōnaṣṭacētanaḥ lost his sense, daśagrīvam ten-headed king, gatvā gone, madvacanāt proudly, brūhi said.

"O noble Hanuman crossing over Lanka without fear, giving up the difficulties experienced earlier we reached. Admonish the ten-headed king who has lost senses, his past fortune and sovereignty."
ṛṣīṇāṅdēvatānāṅcagandharvāpsarasāṅtathā ।।6.41.62।।

nāgānāmathayakṣāṇāṅrājñāṅcarajanīcara .

yaccapāpaṅkṛtaṅmōhādavaliptēnarākṣasa ।।6.41.63।।

nūnaṅtēvigatōdarpaḥsvayambhuvaradānajaḥ .

tasyapāpasyasamprāptāvyuṣṭiradyadurasadā ।।6.41.64।।


rajanīcara night ranger, ṛṣīṇām for the sages, dēvatānām Devatas, tathā so also, gandharvāpsarasām Gandharvas and celestial beauties, nāgānām Nagas, atha and, yakṣāṇām Yakshas, rājñāṅca and kings, mōhāt because of delusion, avaliptēna conceited, yat that, pāpam sin, kṛtam done, tasya by him, pāpasya sin's, durāsadā dangerous to approach, vyuṣṭiḥ boon, adya obtained, samprāptā begotten, nūnam surely, tē those, svayambhuvaradānajaḥ granted by self -born creator, darpaḥ pride, vigataḥ has gone.

"O night ranger! the time has come for punishment for the sins committed by you to the sages, Devatas, so also to Gandharvas, celestial beauties, Nagas, Yakshas and the kings because of your delusion in conceit. Surely your pride about the boons begotten from the self-born creator will be gone, said Rama.
tasyadaṇḍadharastē.haṅdārāharakarśitaḥ .

daṇḍaṅdhārayamāṇastulaṅkādvārēvyavasthitaḥ ।।6.41.65।।


dārāharaṇakarśitaḥ one who has abducted my wife, aham I am, tasya your, tē to you, daṇḍadharaḥ holding rod daṇḍam punish, dhārayāmāṇaḥ chastiser, laṅkādvārē o king of Lanka, vyavasthitaḥ taken position.

"You, who have abducted my wife, I will punish you with a rod of punishment. I am your chastiser, O king of Lanka I have taken position."
padavīṅdēvatānāṅcamaharṣīṇāṅcarākṣasa .

rājarṣīṇāṅcasarvēṣāṅgamiṣyasimayāhataḥ ।।6.41.66।।


rākṣasa Rakshasa, mayā by me, hataḥ killed, dēvatānāṅca even Devatas, maharṣīṇāṅca even sages, sarvēṣām all of them, rājarṣīṇāṅca royal sages, padavīm position, gamiṣyasi lost.

"O Rakshasa! Even Devatas, sages and even royal sages have also lost their lives, killed by me."
balēnayēnavaisītāṅmāyayārākṣasādhama .

yāmatikrāmayitvātvaṅhṛtavāṅstadvidarśaya ।।6.41.67।।


rākṣasādhama lowly Rakshasa, tvam your, yēna that, balēna power, māyayā to me, mām me, atikrāmayitvā by deceiving me, sītām Sita, hṛtavān took away, tat that, dvidarśaya display it now.

"O lowly Rakshasa! By deceiving me you took away Sita. Display that strength now."
arākṣasamimaṅlōkaṅkartāsminiśitaiḥśaraiḥ .

nacēccharaṇamabhyēṣitāmādāyatumaithilīm ।।6.41.68।।


tām her, maithilīm Mythili, ādāya seek, śaraṇam my protection, naabhyēṣiyadi if not take, niśitaiḥ sharp, śaraiḥ arrows, imam this, lōkam world, arākṣasam devoid of Rakshasas, kartāsmi will make.

"If you do not seek my protection I will devoid this world of Rakshasas with my sharp arrows."
dharmātmārākṣasaśrēṣṭhaḥsamprāptō.yaṅvibhīṣaṇaḥ .

laṅkaiśvaryaṅdhṛvaṅśrīmānayaṅprāpnōtyakaṇḍakam ।।6.41.69।।


dharmātmā righteous, rākṣasaśrēṣṭhaḥ best of Rakshasas, ayaṅvibhīṣaṇaḥ this Vibhishana, samprāptaḥ having got, śrīmān fortunate, akaṇḍakam glorious, dhṛvam undoubtedly, laṅkaiśvaryam kingdom of Lanka, prāpnōti will get.

"This Vibheeshana, the best of Rakshasas will be glorious and fortunate undoubtedly having got the kingdom of Lanka."
nahirājyamadharmēṇabhōktuṅkṣaṇamapitvayā .

śakyaṅmūrkhasahāyēnapāpēnāviditātmanā ।।6.41.70।।


mūrkhasahāyēna with the help of foolish mates, pāpēna a sinner, aviditātmanā not aware of himself, tvayā by you, kṣaṇamapi even a moment, rājyam kingdom, atharmēṇa unrighteousness, bhōktum to enjoy, naśakyaṅhi not possible.

"One who is not aware of himself, an unrighteous sinner ruling with foolish mates cannot enjoy the kingdom even for a moment."
yudhyasvavādhṛtiṅkṛtvāśauryamālambyarākṣasa .

maccharaistvaṅraṇēśāntastataḥśāntōbhaviṣyasi ।।6.41.71।।


rākṣasa Rakshasa, vā or, dhṛtim fortitude, kṛtvā resorting to, śauryam valour, ālambya embracing, yudhyasva gallantry, tvam you, raṇē in war, maccharaiḥ my arrows, śāntaḥ peace, tataḥ then, bhaviṣyasi will obtain.

"O Rakshasa! You are resorting to fortitude and valour and embracing gallantry in war. By my arrows you will obtain peace (in death)."
yadvāviśasilōkāṅstrīnpakṣībhūtōmanōjavaḥ .

mamacakṣuṣpathaṅprāpyanajīvanpratiyāsyasi ।।6.41.72।।


manōjavaḥ one who has no control over mind, mama my, cakṣuḥpatham range of my eyesight, prāpya having come in, pakṣī bird, bhūtvā range, trīn three, lōkān worlds, aviśasi entering, jīvan with life, napratiyāsyasi not go alive again.

"O Ravana! You have no control over your mind, and if you come in the range of my eyesight and enter the three worlds also you will not go alive again."
bravīmitvāṅhitaṅvākyaṅkriyatāmaurdhvadaihikam .

sudṛṣṭākriyatāṅlaṅkājīvitaṅtēmayisthitam ।।6.41.73।।


tvām these, hitam well meaning, vākyam words, bravīmi having spoken, aurdhvahikam obsequies, kriyatām to do, laṅkā in Lanka, sudṛṣṭā to do the last rites, kriyatām do tējīvitam for your life, mayi I, sthitam will do.

Having addressed it in well- meaning words, Rama said 'I will do you obsequies as no one will be left in Lanka to do your last rites'.
ityuktaḥsatutārēyōrāmēṇākliṣṭakarmaṇā .

jagāmākāśāmāviśyamūrtimānivahavyavāṭ ।।6.41.74।।


akliṣṭakarmaṇā unwearied in action, rāmēṇa by Rama, iti this way, uktaḥ spoken, tārēyaḥ Tara's son, mūrtimān resembled, havyavāṭ iva like fire, ākāśam sky, āviśya flew, jagāma went.

Rama having spoken that way, Tara's son, Angada, who was like fire god, who was unwearied in action flew to the sky.
sō.tipatyamuhūrtēnaśrīmānrāvaṇamandiram .

dadarśāsīnamavyagraṅrāvaṇaṅsacivaiḥsaha ।।6.41.75।।


śrīmān prosperous, saḥ that he, muhūrtēna in a moment, rāvaṇamandiram Ravana's palace, atipatya having landed, sacivaiḥsaha with his ministers, āsīnam seated, rāvaṇam Ravana, avyagram tiger, dadarśa saw.

Angada landed on Ravana's palace in a moment and saw the tiger like prosperous Ravana seated with his ministers.
tatastasya I vidūrēṇanipatyasaharipuṅgavaḥ .

dīptāgnisadṛśastasthāvaṅgadaḥkanakāṅgadaḥ ।।6.41.76।।


tataḥ thereafter, saharipuṅgavaḥ that leader of monkeys, dīptāgnisadṛśaḥ blazing like fire, kanakāṅgadaḥ adorned with golden armlets, aṅgadaḥ Angada, tasya his, avidūrēṇa at a short distance, nipatya landed, tasthau stood.

Thereafter, the leader of the monkeys, Angada adorned with golden armlets stood like a blazing fire at a distance.
tadrāmavacanaṅsarvamanyūnādhikamuttamam .

sāmātyaṅśrāvayāmāsanivēdyātmānamātmanā ।।6.41.77।।


ātmānam I am, ātmanā myself, nivēdya known, tat that, uttamam best, sarvam all, rāmavacanam Rama's words, anyūnādhikam without adding or deleting, sāmātyam completely, śrāvayāmāsa you may listen.

"I made known the words of Rama completely without adding or deleting. You may listen."
dūtō.haṅkōśalēndrasyarāmasyākliṣṭakarmaṇaḥ .

vāliputrō.ṅgadōnāmayaditēśrōtramāgataḥ ।।6.41.78।।


vāliputraḥ Vali's son, aṅgadōnāma by name Angada, aham I am, kōśalēndrasya Kosala King's, akliṣṭakarmaṇaḥ unwearied in action, rāmasya Rama's, dūtaḥ envoy, tē to you, śrōtram land, āgataḥyadi have landed.

"I am the son of Vali,by name Angada,an envoy of Rama ,the king of Kosala of unwearied action. You may know that I have landed"
ahatvāṅrāghavōrāmaḥkausalyānandavardhanaḥ .

niṣpatyapratiyudhyasvanṛśaṅsa puruṣōbhava ।।6.41.79।।


rāghavaḥ Raghava, kausalyānandavardhanaḥ enhancer of happiness of Kausalya (Rama), rāmaḥ Rama, tvām to you, āha you, nṛśaṅsa ruthless, niṣpatya sallying forth, yudhyasva in combat, puruṣaḥ man, bhava to me.

"Raghava, the enhancer of the happiness of Kausalya speaks to you. Ruthless Rakshasa! Sallying forth, get ready for combat."
hantāsmitvāṅsahāmātyaṅsaputrajñātibāndhavam .

nirudvignāstrayōlōkābhaviṣyantihatētvayi ।।6.41.80।।


sahāmātyam along with ministers, saputrajñātibāndhavam sons, relatives and followers, tvām you, hantāsmi been killed, tvayi of you, hatē killed, trayaḥ three, lōkāḥ worlds, nirudvignāḥ rid of fear, bhaviṣyanti will become.

"You and your son's relatives and followers being killed (by me) the three worlds will be rid of fear of you."
dēvadānavayakṣāṇāṅgandharvōragarakṣasām .

śatrumadyōddhariṣyāmitvāmṛṣīṇāṅcakaṇṭakam ।।6.41.81।।


dēvadānavayakṣāṇām gods, Danavas and Yakshas, gandharvōragarakṣasām Gandharvas, Nagas, śatrum enemy, ṛṣīṇām for the sages, kaṇṭakaṅca thorn in the neck, tvām you, adya being, uddhariṣyāmi uproot you.

"You are an enemy of the gods, Danavas and Yakshas, Gandharvas and Nagas and being a thorn in the neck of sages, I will uproot you from here."
vibhīṣaṇasyacaiśvaryaṅbhaviṣyatihatētvayi .

nacētsatkṛtyavaidēhīṅpraṇipatyapradāsyasi ।।6.41.82।।


praṇipatya bowing down, vaidēhīm Vaidehi, satkṛtya respectfully, napradāsyasicēt not return back, tvayi by you, hatē being killed, aiśvaryam fortune, vibhīṣaṇasya to Vibhishana, bhaviṣyati will be getting.

"Unless you return back Vaidehi respectfully, bowing down to me you will be killed and Vibheeshana will get the fortune."
ityēvaṅparuṣaṅvākyaṅbruvāṇēharipuṅgavē .

amarṣavaśamāpannōniśācaragaṇēśvaraḥ ।।6.41.83।।


haripuṅgavē leader of monkey army, ityēvam in this way, paruṣam harsh, vākyam words, bruvāṇē having spoken, niśācaragaṇēśvaraḥ ruler of night rangers, amarṣavaśam by fury, āpannaḥ overtaken.

The leader of the monkeys having spoken in that manner, Ravana the ruler of night rangers was overtaken by fury.
tatassarōṣatāmrākṣaśśaśāpasacivāṅnnōstadā .

gṛhyatāmēṣadurmēdhāvadhyatāmiticāsakṛt ।।6.41.84।।


tataḥ thereafter, rōṣam shaken by fury, āpannaḥ overtaken, saḥ he, tadā then, ēṣa in this way, sacivān ministers, asakṛt repeatedly, śaśāsa commanded, durmēdhāḥ evil minded, gṛhyatām seize him, vadhyatām kill him.

Thereafter, Ravana who was shaken by fury repeatedly commanded his ministers and said 'Let this evil minded monkey be seized and killed'.
rāvaṇasyavacśutvādīptāgnisamatējasā .

jagṛhustaṅtatōghōrāścatvārōrajanīcarāḥ ।।6.41.85।।


tataḥ thereafter, ghōrāḥ terrific, catvāraḥ four, rajanīcarāḥ night rangers, rāvaṇasya of Ravana, vacaḥ words, śrutvā having heard, samatējasā of equal brilliance, dīptāgni blazing like fire, tam him, Angada, jagṛhuḥ seized.

Thereafter, having heard the words of Ravana, the four Rakshasas seized Angada blazing in brilliance like fire.
grāhayāmāsatārēyassvayamātmanamātmavān .

balaṅdarśayituṅvīrōyātudhānagaṇētadā ।।6.41.86।।


tadā then, ātmavān himself, vīraḥ heroic, tārēyaḥ son of Tara, yātudhānagaṇē in the presence of Rakshasa army, balam strength, darśayitum to exhibit, svayam on his own, ātmānam by his, grāhayāmāsa allowed to be caught.

Then Angada, the son of Tara, on his own wanting to exhibit his strength in the presence of the Rakshasa army allowed himself to be caught.
satānbāhudvayāsaktānādāyapatagāniva .

prāsādaṅśailasaṅkāmutpapātāṅgadastadā ।।6.41.87।।


tadā then, saḥaṅgadaḥ that Angada, bāhudvayasaktān holding the arms, tān from that, patagāniva like birds, ādāya came, śailasaṅkāśam which stood like a mountain peak, prāsādam palace, utpapāta came down.

Then Angada holding the Rakshasas by his arms came down like birds on the roof of the palace which stood like a mountain.
tēntarikṣādvinirdhūtāstasyavēgēnarākṣasāḥ .

bhūmaunipatitāḥsarvērākṣasēndrasyapaśyataḥ ।।6.41.88।।


tēna by that, antarikṣāt from the sky, tasya its, nirdhūtā crushed, vēgēna speed, rākṣasēndrasya Rakshasa king's, tasya from (the mountain), tatra there, sarvē all, bhūmau on the ground, nipatitāḥ fell.

Crushed by that speed of Angada coming down as if from the sky all the Rakshasas fell down on the ground while the Rakshasa king looked on.
tataḥprāsādaśikharaṅśailaśṛṅgamivōnnatam .

dadarśarākṣasēndrasyavāliputraḥpratāpavān ।।6.41.89।।


tataḥ then, pratāpavān courageous, vāliputraḥ Vali's son, rākṣasēndrasya at Ravana, śailaśṛṅgamiva like the peak of mountain, unnatam high, prāsādaśikharam peak of the palace, dadarśa saw.

Then as the courageous Vali's son landed on the high peak of the palace which resembled a mountain peak, Ravana stood looking.
tatpaphālapadākrāntaṅdaśagrīvasyapaśyataḥ .

purāhimavataśśṛṅgaṅvajriṇēvavidāritam ।।6.41.90।।


padākrāntam trampled by, purā earlier, vajriṇa Indra, vidāritam broken, himavataḥśṛṅgamiva Himalayan peak, daśagrīvasya Ravana's, paśyataḥ as he was looking, tatpaphāla cleft

As Ravana was looking, Angada trampling his feet gave way to the palace just as Himalayan peak broke to hit Indra.
bhaṅ ktvāprāsādaśikharaṅnāmaviśrāvyacātmanaḥ .

vinadyasumahānādamutpapātavihāyasam ।।6.41.91।।


prāsādaśikharam peak of the palace, bhaṅ ktvā hitting, ātmanaḥ his own, nāma name, viśrānya declaring, sumahānādam loud sound, vinadya emitting, vihāyasā into the sky, utpapāta rose.

Hitting on the peak of the palace, Angada declaring his own name emitting loud sound rose up to the sky.
vyathayanrākṣasānsarvānharṣayaṅścāpivānarān .

savānarāṇāṅmadhyēturāmapārśvamupāgataḥ ।।6.41.92।।


saḥ he, sarvān all, rākṣasān Rakshasas, vyathayan causing pain, vānarān Vanaras, harṣayaṅścāpi delighting, vānarāṇām to Vanaras, madhyē midst, rāmapārśvam near Rama, upāgataḥ returned back.

Angada caused pain to the Rakshasas and delighted the monkeys and returned to the midst of Vanaras near Rama.
rāvaṇastuparaṅcakrēkrōdhaṅprāsādadharṣaṇāt .

vināśaṅcātmanaḥpaśyanniśśvāsaparamō.bhavat ।।6.41.93।।


rāvaṇastu even Ravana, prāsādadharṣaṇāt for shattering the palace, param very, krōdham angry, cakrē exhibiting, ātmanaḥ for him, vināśam destruction, paśyan seeing, niḥśvāsaparamaḥ sighing, abhavat exhibited.

Ravana exhibiting extreme anger at the shattering of his palace and seeing his destruction started sighing heavily.
rāmastubahubhirhṛṣṭarninadadbhiḥplavaṅgamaiḥ .

vṛtōripuvadhākāṅkṣīyuddhāyaivābhyavartata ।।6.41.94।।


rāmastu On Rama's part, hṛṣṭaiḥ delighted, vinadadbhiḥ roaring like a lion, bahubhiḥ many, plavaṅgamaiḥ monkey groups, vṛtaḥ surrounded, ripuvadhākāṅkṣī desirous of destruction of enemy, yuddhāyaiva for war, abhyavartata waiting.

Delighted by the roaring sound of many monkeys Rama awaited surrounded by groups of monkeys desirous of starting war.
suṣēṇastumahāvīryōgirikūṭōpamōhariḥ .

bahubhiḥsamvṛtastatravānaraiḥkāmarūpibhiḥ ।।6.41.95।।


mahāvīryaḥ of great prowess, girikūṭōpamaḥ resembling mountain, hariḥ Monkey, suṣēṇastu Sushena also, tatra there, kāmarūpibhiḥ who change their form according to their will, bahubhiḥ many, vānaraiḥ Vanaras, samvṛtaḥ surrounded.

Sushena of great prowess, who resembled a mountain in form stood there surrounded by many Vanaras who could change their form at their will.
sacaturdvārāṇisarvāṇisugrīvavacanātkapiḥ .

paryakrāmatadurdharṣōnakṣatrāṇīvacandramāḥ ।।6.41.96।।


durdharṣaḥ one who is difficult to encounter, kapiḥ monkey, sugrīvavacanāt by the command of Sugriva, caturdvārāṇi the four gates, sarvāṇi all, candramāḥ moon, nakṣatrāṇīva stars, paryakrāmata moves around.

Sushena, a monkey who is difficult to encounter, went around all the four gates just like the moon goes around stars by the order of Sugriva.
tēṣāmakṣauhiṇiśataṅsamavēkṣyavanaukasām .

laṅkāmupaniviṣṭānāṅsāgaraṅcānivartatām ।।6.41.97।।

rākṣasāvismayaṅjagmustrāsaṅjagmustathāparē .

aparēsamarōdhdharṣāddharṣamēvaprapēdirē ।।6.41.98।।


laṅkām upaniviṣṭānām staying near Lanka, sāgaraṅca extending beyond the ocean, anivartatām spreading beyond, tēṣām them, vanaukasām Vanara army, akṣauhiṇiśatam a hundred Akshauhinis, samavēkṣya collected together, rākṣasāḥ Rakshasas, vismayam wonder struck, jagmuḥ feared, aparē alarmed, samarē war, harṣāt joyful, harṣamēva joy alone, prapēdirē exhibited.

Seeing the large army of a hundred Akshauhinis of monkeys staying near Lanka spreading beyond the sea waiting for war the Rakshasas were wonder struck, some feared, some were alarmed to witness the jubilant Vanaras who exhibited joy alone.
kṛtsnaṅhikapibhirvyāptaṅprākāraparikhāntaram .

dadṛśūrākṣasādīnāḥprākāraṅnānarīkṛtam ।।6.41.99।।

hāhākāraṅprakurvantirākṣasābhayamōhitāḥ .


rākṣasāḥ Rakshasa, dīnāḥ desperate, kapibhiḥ even monkeys, vyāptam spread over, kṛtsnam dark, prākāraparikhāntaram entire area from the boundary and moat, nānarīkṛtam filled with monkeys, prākāram boundary, dadṛśuḥ saw, rākṣasāḥ Rakshasas, bhayam fear, āgatāḥ reached, hāhākāram making noise, prakurvanti converted to defensive walls.

The Rakshasas were desperate to see the spread of monkeys over the entire area from the boundary to moat of Lanka. The way the space between was filled with Vanaras seemed as though the Vanaras converted into boundaries. Rakshasas were seen making a loud noise.
tasmin mahābhīṣaṇakēpravṛttēkōlāhalērākṣasarājadhānyām .

pragṛhyarakṣāṅsimahāyudhāniyugāntavātāivasaṅvicēruḥ ।।6.41.100।।


mahābhīṣaṇakē frightening sound, tasmin such, kōlāhalē shouting, pravṛttē advanced, rākṣasarājadhānyām the kingdom of Rakshasas, rakṣāṅsi to protect, mahāyudhāni for great war, pragṛhya holding, yugāntavātāḥiva as if it is the end of universe, saṅvicēruḥ advanced.

To protect the kingdom of Rakshasas, the Rakshasas holding weapons making frightening sounds and shouting, advanced for a great War. It seemed as though it was the end of the universe.
