[In the course of conflict between Rakshasas and Vanaras Angada fights with Indrajith. Other Rakshasas are lopped off by Rama and Nikumbha by Neela. Sushena kills Vidyunmali.]

yudhyatāṅtutatastēṣāṅvānarāṇāṅmahātmanām .

rakṣasāṅsambabhūvāthabalakōpassudāruṇaḥ ।।6.43.1।।


tataḥ thereafter, mahātmānām gigantic, tēṣāṅvānarāṇām those Vanaras, rakṣasāṅca and Rakshasas, yudhyatām waging war, atha while, sudāruṇaḥ exceedingly terrific, balarōṣaḥ anguished, sambabhūva could not tolerate the sight.

Thereafter the gigantic army of Vanaras were fighting with exceedingly terrific Rakshasas and the anguished Rakshasas could not tolerate the sight.
tēhayaiḥkāñcanāpīḍairdhvaścāgniśikhōpamaiḥ .

rathaiścādityasaṅkāśaiḥkavacaiścamanōramaiḥ ।।6.43.2।।

niryayūrākṣasavyāghrānādayantōdiśōdaśa .

rākṣasābhīmakarmāṇōrāvaṇasyajayaiṣiṇaḥ ।।6.43.3।।


rāvaṇasya for Ravana, jayaiṣiṇaḥ desiring victory, rākṣasavyāghrāḥ tiger among Rakshasas, bhīmakarmāṇaḥ of terrible deeds, tērākṣasāḥ those Rakshasas, kāñcanāpīḍaiḥ provided with golden trappings, hayaiḥ horses, agniśikhōpamaiḥ like flames of fire, ūrdhvaiḥ posts, ādityasaṅkāśaiḥ shining like sun's rays, rathaiḥ chariots, manōramaiḥ delightful, kavacaiśca shields, daśa ten, diśaḥ directions, nādayantaḥ resounding, niryayuḥ sallied forth.

Wishing victory for Ravana, the tiger among ogres, the Rakshasas of terrific deeds sallied forth accompanied by horses with golden trappings and seizing posts, which were like flames of fire shining like the sun's rays on the chariots and delightful shields, roaring resounding in all the ten directions.
vānarāṇāmapicamūrbṛhatījayamicchatām .

abhyadhāvatatāṅsēnāṅrakṣasāṅkāmarūpiṇam ।।6.43.4।।


jayam triumph, icchatām wishing, vānarāṇām Vanaras, bṛhatī powerful, camūḥapi army too, ghōrakarmaṇām of terrible deeds, rakṣasām Rakshasas, tāṅsēnām those army, abhyadhāvata went ahead.

Wishing triumph even the powerful army of powerful Vanaras of terrific deeds went ahead to fight with Rakshasas.
ētasminnantarētēṣāmanyōnyamabhidhāvatām .

rakṣasāṅvānarāṇāṅcadvandvayuddhamavartata ।।6.43.5।।


ētasmin antarē at that time, anyōnyam one another, abhidhāvatām facing one over the other, tēṣām those, rakṣasām Rakshasas, vānarāṇāṅca and Vanaras, dvandvayuddham duel fight, āvartata began.

At that time the Vanaras and Rakshasas facing each other started a dual fight.
aṅgadēndrajitsārdhaṅvāliputrēṇarākṣasaḥ .

āyudhyatamahātējāstṟyambakēṇayathā.ntakaḥ ।।6.43.6।।

Indrajith, an exceedingly brilliant Rakshasa, contended with Angada, son of Vali just like Lord Siva with and haka, the Lord of death.
prajaṅghēnacasampātirnityaṅdurmarṣaṇōraṇē .

jambumālinamārabdhōhanumānapivānaraḥ ।।6.43.7।।


raṇē in war, nityam invariably, durmarṣaṇaḥ difficult to encounter, sampātiḥ Sampathi, prajaṅghēna Prajangha, vānaraḥ Vanara, hanumānapi Hanuman, jambumālinam with Jambumali, ārabdaḥ started.

Sampathi , who is invariably difficult to encounter in war fought with Prajangha, and Hanuman started with Jambumali.
saṅgatastumahākrōdhōrākṣasōrāvaṇānujaḥ .

samarētīkṣṇavēgēnamitraghnēnavibhīṣaṇaḥ ।।6.43.8।।


mahākrōdhaḥ highly furious, rāvaṇānujaḥ Ravana's brother, rākṣasaḥ Rakshasa, vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, samarē in war, tīkṣṇavēgēna endowed with high speed, mitraghnēna Mitraghna, saṅgataḥ contended.

Highly furious Rakshasa, Vibheeshana, brother of Ravana fought with Rakshasa, Mitraghna.
tapanēnagajassārdhaṅrākṣasēnamahābalaḥ .

nikumbhēnamahātējānīlō.pisamayudhyata ।।6.43.9।।


mahābalaḥ of great strength, gajaḥ Gaja, tapanēna with Tapa, rākṣasēnasārdham with Rakshasa, mahātējāḥ highly energetic, nīlō.pi Neela too, nikumbēna with Nikumbha, samayudhyata fought with each other.

Gaja of great strength fought with Rakshasa Tapa, and highly energetic Neela fought with Nikumbha.
vānarēndrastusugrīvaḥpraghasēnasamāgataḥ .

saṅgataḥsamarēśrīmānvirūpākṣēṇalakṣmaṇaḥ ।।6.43.10।।


vānarēndra Lord of Vanaras, sugrīvaḥ Sugriva, praghanēna with Praghana, samāgataḥ encountered, śrīmān prosperous, lakṣmaṇaḥ Lakshmana, virūpākṣēṇa Virupaksha, samarē in war, saṅgataḥ encountered.

Sugriva the Lord of Vanaras fought with Praghana and prosperous Lakshmana fought with Virupaksha.
agnikētuścasudurdharṣōraśmikētuścarākṣasaḥ .

suptaghnōyajñakōpaścarāmēṇasahasaṅgatāḥ ।।6.43.11।।


sudurdharṣaḥ difficult to win over, agnikētuḥ Agnikethu, rākṣasaḥ Rakshasa, raśmikētuśca and Rasmikethu, suptaghnuḥ Suptaghna, yajñakēpaśca Yajnakepu, rāmēṇasaha along with Rama, saṅgatāḥ waged.

Agnikethu, a Rakshasa who is difficult to win over, Rasmikethu, Suptaghna and Yajnakepu waged war with Rama.
vajramuṣṭistumaindēnadvividēnāśaniprabhaḥ .

rākṣasābhyāṅsughōrābhyāṅkapimukhyausamāgatau ।।6.43.12।।


vajramuṣṭiḥ Vajramushti, tu also, maindēna with Mainda, aśaniprabhaḥ Asaniprabhu, dvividēna with Dwivida kapimukhyau chief of monkeys, sughōrābhyām fearful, rākṣasābhyām with the two Rakshasas, samāgatau fought.

vīraḥpratapanōghōrōrākṣasōraṇadurdharaḥ .

samarētīkṣṇavēgēnanaḷēnasamayudhyata ।।6.43.13।।


vīraḥ heroic, ghōraḥ dreadful, raṇadurdharaḥ indomitable in war, pratapanaḥ Pratapana, samarē in battle, tīkṣṇavēgēna with high speed, naḷēna Nala, samayudhyata fought with.

Heroic and dreadful Pratapana, who is indomitable in the battle, fought with Nala endowed with high speed.
dharmasyaputrōbalavānsuṣēṇaitiviśrutaḥ .

savidyunmālināsārdhamayudhyatamahākapiḥ ।।6.43.14।।

vānarāścāparēbhīmārākṣasairaparaissaha .

dvandvaṅsamīyussahasāyuddhāyabahubhissaha ।।6.43.15।।


dharmasyaputrō righteous son, balavānsuṣēṇa of mighty Sushena, iti so also, viśrutaḥ well known, savidyunmālinā with Vidyunmali, sārdhamayudhyata fought with, mahākapiḥ great monkey, ghōrāḥ fierce, aparē other, vānarāśca Vanaras also, bahubhiḥsaha along with many, yuddhāyaca fought in war, aparaiḥ, rākṣasaiḥsaha Rakshasas also, dvandvaṅsamīyuḥ duel fight.

Mighty Sushena, the righteous son fought with well known Vidyunmali. And fierce monkeys and Rakshasas fought in dual war with each other.
tatrāsītsumahadyuddhaṅtumulaṅrōmaharṣaṇam .

rakṣasāṅvānarāṇāṅcavīrāṇāṅjayamicchatām ।।6.43.16।।


tatra there, jayam victory, icchatām longing, vīrāṇām heroes, rakṣasām Rakshasas, vānarāṇāṅca and Vanaras, rōmaharṣaṇam fierce which made hair stand on end, tumulam confused, sumahat great, yuddham war, āsīt happened.

Fierce war which made hair stand on end happened there, with the heroic Rakshasas and Vanaras longing for victory.
harirākṣasadēhēbhyaḥprabhūtāḥkēśaśādvalāḥ .

śarīrasaṅghāṭāvahāḥprasusruśśōṇitāpagāḥ ।।6.43.17।।


harirākṣasadēhēbhyaḥ from the body of Rakshasas and Vanaras, prabhūtāḥ come out, kēśaśādvalāḥ in the form of hair, śarīrasaṅghāṭavahāḥ the dead bodies like logs of wood, śōṇitāpagāḥ streams of blood, prasusruḥ flown.

In that war, the streams of blood that flowed from the bodies of Vanaras and Rakshasas were strewn like weeds in the form of hair, bearing logs of wood in the form of dead bodies.
ajaghānēndrajitkruddhōvajrēṇēvaśatakratuḥ .

aṅgadaṅgadayāvīraṅśatrusainyavidāraṇam ।।6.43.18।।


kruddhaḥ enraged, indrajit Indrajith, śatakratuḥ who has done a hundred sacrifices, vajrēṇēva Indra thunderbolt, gadayā mace, śatrusainyavidāraṇam destroyer of hostile forces, vīram heroic, aṅgadam Angada, ājaghāna struck.

Enraged, Indrajith struck Angada with his mace, the destroyer of hostile forces which was like Indra who had done a hundred sacrifices, would strike with his thunderbolt.
tasyakāñcanacitrāṅgaṅrathaṅsāśvaṅsasārathim .

jaghānasamarēśrīmānaṅgadōvēgavānkapiḥ ।।6.43.19।।


kapiḥ monkey, aṅgadaḥ Angada, vēgavān swiftly, samarē in fight, tasya his, kāñcanacitrāṅgam bright with gold, sāśvam horses, sasārathim with charioteer, ratham chariot, jaghāna destroyed.

With the same mace (snatched from the Rakshasa) Angada swiftly struck Indrajit hand destroyed the horse, chariot, and charioteer.
sampātistutribhirbhāṇaiḥprajaṅghēnasamāhataḥ .

nijaghānaśvakarṇēnaprajaṅghaṅraṇamūrdhani ।।6.43.20।।


prajaṅghēna Prajangha, tribhiḥ three, bāṇaiḥ arrows, samāhataḥ injured, sampātistu and Sampathi also, raṇamūrdhani in the midst of war, aśvakarṇēna A swakarna, prajaṅgham Prajangham, nijaghāna killed.

While Prajangha injured Sampathi with three arrows, in turn Sampathi killed him with Aswakarna tree in the midst of war.
jambumālīrathasthasturathaśaktyāmahābalaḥ .

bibēdasamarēkruddhōhanūmantaṅstanāntarē ।।6.43.21।।


mahābalaḥ of extraordinary mighty, rathasthaḥ chariot's, jambumālī Jambumali, kruddhaḥ angry, samarē in the battle, hanūmantam Hanuman, rathaśaktyā mounting on the chariot, stanāntarē in the chest, bibhēda pierced

Jambumali of extraordinary might mounting on the chariot in the battle pierced Hanuman in his chest.
tasyataṅrathamāsthāyahanūmān mārutātmajaḥ .

pramamāthatalēnāśusahatēnaivarakṣasā ।।6.43.22।।


mārutātmajaḥ son of wind god, hanumān Hanuman, tasya his, taṅratham that chariot, āsthāya taking position, āśu quickly, tēnarakṣasā that Rakshasa, talēna with the palm, pramāmatha destroyed.

Hanuman the son of wind god, getting on to the chariot quickly destroyed that Rakshasa Jambumali with his palm.
nadan pratapanōghōrōnalaṅsōpyanvadhāvata .

nalaḥpratapanasyāśupātayāmāsacakṣuṣī ।।6.43.23।।


ghōraḥ dreadful, saḥpratapanaḥ that Pratapan, nadan roaring, nalam on Nala, anvadhāvata jumping, nalaḥ Nala, āśu that, pratapanasya Pratapan's, cakṣuṣī eyes, pātayāmāsa gouged out.

Dreadful Pratapan roared and jumped over Nala. Nala in turn gouged out the eyes of Pratapan.
bhinnagātraśśaraistīkṣṇaiḥkṣiprahastēnarakṣasā .

grasantamivasainyānipraghasaṅvānarādhipaḥ ।।6.43.24।।

sugrīvassaptaparṇēnanirbhibhēdajaghānaca .


kṣiprahastēna as if consuming monkey troops, rakṣasā Rakshasa, tīkṣṇaiḥ sharp, śaraiḥ arrows, bhinnagātraḥ opening his throat, vānarādhipaḥ Vanara leader, sugrīvaḥ Sugriva, sainyāni army, grasantamiva as if swallowing, praghasam Praghasan, saptaparṇēna Sapataparni, jaghānaca hit speedily, nirbhibhēda and killed.

Sugriva, the Vanara leader, taking hold of Sapataparni tree hit Pratapan who had his mouth open as if to swallow the army and killed him.
agnikētuścadurdharṣōraśmikētuścarākṣasaḥ ।।6.43.25।।

suptaghnōyajñakōpaścarāmaṅnirbhibhiduśśaraiḥ .


durdharṣaḥ difficult to attack, agnikētuśca even Agnikethu, rākṣasaḥ Rakshasa, raśmikētuśca and Rasmi kethu, mitraghnaḥ Mitraghna, yajñakōpaśca Yajakopa, rāmam Rama, śaraiḥ with arrows, nirbhibhiduḥ mangled.

Even Agnikethu who is difficult to attack, Rakshasas Rasmikethu, also Mitarghna and Yajakopa mangled Sri Rama with arrows.
tēṣāṅcaturṇāṅrāmastuśirāṅsiniśitaiśśaraiḥ .

kruddhaścaturbhiścicchēdaghōrairagniśikhōpamaiḥ ।।6.43.26।।


niśitaiḥ sharp, rāmastu even Rama, kruddhaḥ anguished, ghōraiḥ fierce, agniśikhōpamaiḥ like flames of fire, caturbhiḥ all the four, śaraiḥ by arrows, tēṣām them, caturṇām four, śirāṅsi heads, cicchēda shattered.

Raged Rama with his sharp arrows which were like flames of fire destroyed all the four Rakshasas by cutting their heads.
vajramuṣṭistumaindēnamuṣṭinānihatōraṇē .

papātasarathassāśvaḥpurāṭṭaivabhūtalē ।।6.43.27।।


vajramuṣṭistu Vajramushti also, raṇē in the battle, maindēna Mainda, muṣṭinā with fist, nihataḥ killed, sarathaḥ charioteer, sāśvaḥ horses, purāṭṭaḥiva like the fort, bhūtalē on the ground, papāta fell.

Even Vajramushti fell on the ground struck with the fist by Mainda and the chariot and charioteer fell like the fort.
nikumbasturaṇēnīlaṅnīlāñjanacayaprabham .

nirbibhēdaśaraistīkṣṇaiḥkarairmēghamivāṅśumān ।।6.43.28।।


nikumbhastu Nikumbha also, raṇē in battlefield, nīlāñjanacayaprabham like a mass of dark collyrium, nīlam Nila, aṅśumān Sun, karaiḥ dark, mēghamiva cloud like, tīkṣṇaiḥ sharp, śaraiḥ arrows, nirbhibhēda shattered.

Just as the Sun 's rays pierced through clouds Nikumbha was shattered and fell like a mass of collyrium in the battlefield.
punaśśaraśatēnāthakṣiprahastōniśācaraḥ .

bibhēdasamarēnīlaṅnikumbhaḥprajahāsaca ।।6.43.29।।


kṣiprahastaḥ endowed with speed in shooting arrows, niśācaraḥ night ranger, nikumbhaḥ Nikumbha, atha there, śaraśatēna a thousand arrows, samarē in the battle, nīlam Nila, punaḥ again, bibhēda shattered, prajahāsaca and laughed heartily.

Nikumbha, the night ranger who was endowed with speed in shooting arrows again shot with a thousand arrows and laughed heartily.
tasyaivarathacakrēṇanīlōviṣṇurivāhavē .

śiraścicchēdasamarēnikumbhasyacasārathēḥ ।।6.43.30।।


nīlaḥ Nila, āhavē, viṣṇuriva like Vishnu, tasyaiva his own, rathacakrēṇa chariot wheels, samarē in battle, nikumbhasya at Nikumbha, sārathēḥ charioteer, śiraḥ head, cicchēdaḥ broken to pieces.

Like Lord Vishnu, Nila took the wheels of the chariot of Nikumbha and shattered the charioteer into pieces.
vajrāśanisamasparśōdvividō.pyaśaniprabham .

jaghānagiriśṛṅgēṇamiṣatāṅsarvarakṣasām ।।6.43.31।।


vajrāśanisamasparśaḥ like thunderbolt to touch, dvividōpi Dwivida's body, sarvarakṣasām all Rakshasas, miṣatām watching, giriśṛṅgēṇa mountain peak, aśaniprabham Asaniprabhu, jaghāna moved about.

Dwivida whose body was like a thunderbolt to feel, moved about on the mountain peak as Rakshasas were watching.
dvididhaṅvānarēndraṅtunagayōdhinamāhavē .

śarairaśanisaṅkāśaissavivyādhāśaniprabhaḥ ।।6.43.32।।


saḥaśaniprabhaḥ that Asaniprabha, āhavē fighting with, nagayōdhinam with trees, vānarēndram Vanara Lord, tu you, dvividham Dwivida, āśanisaṅkāśaiḥ resembling lightening, śaraiḥ arrows, vivyādha wounded

Asaniprabha shot arrows resembling lightning at Dwivida the Vanara Lord who was fighting with trees.
saśarairabhividdhāṅgōdvividaḥkrōdhamūrchitaḥ .

sālēnasarathaṅsāśvaṅnijaghānāśaniprabham ।।6.43.33।।


śaraiḥ arrows, abhividdhāṅgaḥ whose limbs have been injured, saḥdvividaḥ that Dwivida, krōdhamūrchitaḥ enraged, sālēna Sala tree, saratham charioteer, sāśvam horses, aśaniprabham Asaniprabha, nijaghāna killed.

Dwivida whose limbs have been injured being enraged took Sala tree and killed Asaniprabha and the charioteer as well as the horses.
vidyunmālīrathasthastuśaraiḥkāñcanabhūṣaṇaiḥ .

suṣēṇaṅtāḍayāmāsananādacamuhurmuhuḥ ।।6.43.34।।


rathasthaḥ in the chariot, vidyunmālī Vidyunmali, kāñcanabhūṣaṇaiḥ decorated with gold, śaraiḥ arrows, muhurmuhuḥ again and again, suṣēṇam at Sushena, tāḍayāmāsa beating, nanādaca roared.

Vidyunmali mounting the chariot started releasing arrows covered with gold at Sushena and roared.
taṅrathasthamathōdṛṣṭavāsuṣēṇōvānarōttamaḥ .

giriśṛṅgēṇamahatārathamāśunyapātayat ।।6.43.35।।


athō Nay!, vānarōttamaḥ leader of Vanaras, suṣēṇaḥ Sushena, rathastham chariot, tam him, dṛṣṭavā top, mahatā great, giriśṛṅgēṇa peak of the mountain, āśu there, ratham chariot, nyapātayat crushed.

Nay, Sushena, the leader of Vanaras, saw himself down and Jambumali on top in the chariot. He crushed him with a big mountain peak.
lāghavēnatusaṅyuktōvidyunmālīniśācaraḥ .

apakramyarathāttūrṇaṅgadāpāṇiḥkṣitausthitaḥ ।।6.43.36।।


lāghavēna huge, saṅyuktaḥ, niśācaraḥ night ranger, vidyunmālī Vidyunmali, rathāt from the chariot, tūrṇam quickly, apakramya got down, gadāpāṇiḥ mace, kṣitau placed on the chest, sthitaḥ remained.

Vidyunmali seeing Sushena, the monkey leader got a huge rock, and hit him on his chest with the mace.
tataḥkrōdhasamāviṣṭaḥsuṣēṇōharipuṅgavaḥ .

śilāṅsumahatīṅgṛhyaniśācaramabhidravat ।।6.43.37।।


tataḥ thereafter, krōdhasamāviṣṭaḥ overtaken by anger, haripuṅgavaḥ monkey leader, suṣēṇaḥ Sushena, mahatīm huge, śilām rock, gṛhya seizing, niśācaram Rakshasa, abhidravat dropped.

Thereafter overtaken by anger, the monkey leader Sushena seized the huge rock from the Rakshasa and dropped it.
tamāpatantaṅgadayāvidyunmālīniśācaraḥ .

vakṣasyabhijaghānāśusuṣēṇaṅharipuṅgavaḥ ।।6.43.38।।


niśācaraḥ night ranger, vidyunmālī Vidyunmali, āpatantam , tam him, haripuṅgavaḥ leader of monkeys, suṣēṇam Sushena, āśu with, gadayā the mace, vakṣasi on the chest, abhijaghānaha hit him.

Then Vidyunmali, seeing the leader of monkeys getting the huge rock, hit him on the chest with the mace.
gadāprahāraṅtaṅghōramacnityaplavagōttamaḥ .

tāṅśilāṅpātayāmāsatasyōrasimahāmṛdhē ।।6.43.39।।


mahāmṛdhē great monkey, plavagōttamaḥ leader of monkeys, ghōram dreadful, taṅgadāprahāram that mace, acnitya not caring, śilām rock, tām him, tasya his, urasi chest, pātayāmāsa dropped.

The great monkey leader Sushena, not caring for the mace, dropped the rock on Vidyunmali's chest.
śilāprahārabhihatōvidyunmālīniśācaraḥ .

niṣpiṣṭahṛdayōbhūmaugatāsurnipapātaha ।।6.43.40।।


śilāprahārābhihataḥ hit by the huge rock, niśācaraḥ night ranger, vidyunmālī Vidyunmali, nippiṣṭahṛdayaḥ ceased of life, gatāsuḥ gone, bhūmau on the ground, nipapātaha dropped.

Vidyunmali, the Rakshasa hit by the huge rock, was ceased of life.
ēvaṅtairvānaraiśśūraiśśūrāstērajanīcarāḥ .

dvandvēvimṛditāstatradaityāivadivaukasaiḥ ।।6.43.41।।


śūrāḥ warriors, tērajanīcarāḥ those Rakshasas, śūraiḥ with warriors, taiḥvānaraiḥ those Vanaras, ēvam in that manner, tatra there, dvandvē duel fight, divaukasaiḥ wonderful, daityāiva like Devatas, vimṛditāḥ delighted.

In that manner the Rakshasa warriors and the Vanara warriors fought the duel wonderfully and like the way Devatas killed the Demons, the Rakshasas were killed.
bhagnaikhaḍagairgadābhiścaśaktitōmarapaṭṭasai: .

apaviddhaiścābhinnaiścarathaissāṅgrāmikairhayaiḥ ।।6.43.42।।

nihataiḥkuñjarairmatssaistathāvānararākṣasaiḥ .

cakrākṣayugadaṇḍaiścabhagnairdharaṇisaṅśritaiḥ ।।6.43.43।।

babhūvāyōdhanaṅghōraṅgōmāyugaṇasēvitam .
