Sloka & Translation

[The vanaras feel frustrated seeing Rama and Lakshmana enmeshed and lying on the ground. Vibheeshana exhorts Sugriva and sees Indrajith hiding. Indrajith reports to Ravana that Rama and Lakshman are killed by him.]

tatōdyāṅpṛthivīṅcaivavīkṣamāṇāvanaukasaḥ .

dadṛśuḥsantataubāṇairbhrātaraurāmalakṣmaṇau ।।6.46.1।।


tataḥ thereafter, dyām at the sky, pṛthivīṅcaiva on the ground, vīkṣamāṇā seeing, vanaukasaḥ Vanara leaders, bāṇaiḥ arrows, santatau, bhrātarau brothers, rāmalakṣmaṇau Rama and Lakshmana, dadṛśuḥ saw.

Thereafter looking at the sky and the ground for Rama and Lakshmana, the Vanara leaders saw the two brothers, lying on the ground hurt by arrows.
vṛṣṭavēvōparatēdēvēkṛtakarmaṇirākṣasē .

ājagāmāthataṅdēśaṅsasugrīvōvibhīṣaṇaḥ ।।6.46.2।।


dēvē cloud, vṛṣṭavēva after raining, rākṣasē Rakshasa, kṛtakarmaṇi having completed the task, uparatē retired, atha and then, vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, sasugrīvaḥ Sugriva, taṅdēśam that location, ājagāma reached.

Indrajith retired after completing the task, like a cloud that retires after raining. Then came Vibheeshana and Sugriva to that location.
nīladvividamaindāścasuṣēṇaḥkumudāṅgadā: .

tūrṇaṅhanumatāsārdhamanvaśōcantarāghavau ।।6.46.3।।


nīlaśca Neela and, dvividaḥ Dwivida, maindaḥ Mainda, suṣēṇaḥ Sushena, kumudaḥ Kumuda, aṅgadā: Angada, hanumatāsārdham accompanied by Hanuman, tūrṇam intensely, rāghavau Ragahavas, anvaśōcanta grieved looking at.

Neela, Dwivida, Mainda, Sushena, Kumuda, Angada accompanied by Hanuman grieved intensely on looking at the Raghavas.
acēṣṭaumandaniśśvāsauśōṇitaughapariplutau .

śarajālācitaustabdauśayānauśaratalpayōḥ ।।6.46.4।।

niḥśvasantauyathāsarpauniścēṣṭaumandavikramau .

rudhirasrādvigdhāṅgautāpanīyāvivadhvajau ।।6.46.5।।

tauvīraśayanēvīrauśayānaumandacēṣṭitau .

yūthapaistai: parivṛtaubāṣpavyākulalōcanaiḥ ।।6.46.6।।

rāghavaupatitaudṛṣṭavāśarajālasamāvṛtau .

babhūvurvērvyathitāssarvēvānarāssavibhīṣaṇāḥ ।।6.46.7।।


acēṣṭau unable to move, mandaniśśvāsau with feeble breath, śōṇitaugha drenched in blood, pariplutau covered all over, śarajālācitau with arrows, stabdau motionless, śayānau on bed, śaratalpayōḥ of arrows, sarpauyathā like serpents, niśśvasantau feeble breath, niścēṣṭau stunned, mandacēṣṭitau inactive, rudhirasrādvigdhāṅgau drenched in blood, tāpanīyau distressed, dhvajauiva like posts, vīraśayanē heroic bed, śayānau lying, vīrau heroes, mandavikramau prowess reduced, bāṣpavyākulalōcanaiḥ eyes filled with tears, ssaiḥ breath, yūthapaiḥ army, parivṛtau surrounded by, śarajālasamāvṛtau network of arrows, taurāghavau both the scions, dṛṣṭavā seeing, savibhīṣaṇāḥ Vibheeshana, sarvē all, vānarāḥ Vanara, vyathitāḥ worried, babhūvuḥ appeared.

Unable to move, with feeble breath, drenched in blood and the body covered all over with arrows, lying on a bed of arrows, stunned, with reduced prowess, sighing like serpents, the heroes, Rama, and Lakshmana, who were like golden posts became dull. Rama and Lakshmana were lying on a heroic bed, arrows stuck to the bodies. Vibheeshana and all the Vanaras kept seeing both the scions and wept surrounding them.
antarikṣaṅnirīkṣantōdiśassarvāścavānarāḥ .

nacainaṅmāyayāchannaṅdadṛśūrāvaṇiḥraṇē ।।6.46.8।।


antarikṣam sky, sarvāḥ all over, diśaśca directions, nirīkṣantaḥ looking, vānarāḥ Vanaras, raṇē battle, māyayā mystical power, cainaṅ not find, channam searched, ēnam all over, rāvaṇim Indrajith, dadṛśuḥ could not see.

Though the Vanaras searched all over the battlefield and in all directions of the sky, they could not see Indrajith of mystical powers.
taṅtumāyāpraticchannaṅmāyayaivavibhīṣaṇaḥ .

vīkṣamāṇōdadarśāthabhrātuḥputramavasthitam ।।6.46.9।।


vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, māyayaiva occult, vīkṣamāṇaḥ started looking, māyāpraticchannam searched with occult powers, atha and then, avasthitam stood, tam his, bhrātuḥputram brother's son, dadarśa saw.

Vibheeshana started looking with occult powers for his brother's son endowed with occult power following occult means and found Indrajith.
tamapratikarmāṇamapratidvandvamāhavē .

dadarśāntarhitaṅvīraṅvaradānādvibhīṣaṇaḥ ।।6.46.10।।

tējasāyaśasācaivavikramēṇacasamyutam .


tējasā brilliant, yaśasācaiva glory, vikramēṇaca capable of difficult deeds, samyutam endowed with, vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, apratimakarmāṇam incomparable in his task, āhavē in fight, apratidvandam unrivalled in battle, varadānāt by virtue of a boon, antarhitam hidden, tam him, vīram hero, dadarśa seen.

Brilliant and glorious Vibheeshana, capable of difficult deeds, incomparable at work, and in fight, unrivalled in battle, saw the hidden hero Indrajith by virtue of a boon (from Brahma).
indrajittvātmanaḥkarmatauśayānausamīkṣyaca ।।6.46.11।।

uvācaparamaprītōharṣayan sarvanairṛtān .


indrajittu Indrajith, ātmanaḥ himself, karma action, śayānau on the bed, tauca both, samīkṣya reviewing, paramaprītaḥ very happily, sarvanairṛtān to all Rakshasas, harṣayan making to rejoice, uvāca spoke.

Reviewing the scions lying on bed by his action, Indrajith caused extreme joy to all Rakshasas and spoke.
dūṣaṇasyacahantāraukharasyacamahābalau ।।6.46.12।।

sāditaumāmakairbāṇairbhrātaraurāmalakṣmaṇau .


dūṣaṇasyaca Dushana, kharasyaca and Khara, hantārau slayer, mahābalau very strong, bhrātarau brothers, rāmalakṣmaṇau Rama and Lakshmana, māmakaiḥ by my, bāṇaiḥ arrows, sāditau struck.

"The two brothers, Rama and Lakshmana, who slayed Dushana and Khara have been struck."
nēmaumōkṣayituṅśakyāvētasmādiṣubandhanāt ।।6.46.13।।

sarvairapisamāgamyasarṣisaṅghaissurāsuraiḥ .


sarvaiḥ all, sarṣisaṅghaiḥ sages, surāsuraiḥ Devatas and Rakshasas, samāgamya collected together, imau this, ētasmāt by them, iṣubandhanāt to rid of this network, mōkṣayitum liberate, naśakyau not possible.

"Even if all the sages, Devatas and Rakshasas collected together come, they cannot get liberated from this bondage of arrows."
yatkṛtēcintayānasyaśōkārtasyapiturmama ।।6.46.14।।

aspṛṣṭavāśayanaṅgātraistriyāmāyātiśarvarī .

tsnēyaṅyatkṛtēlaṅkānadīvarṣāsvivākulā ।।6.46.15।।

sō.yaṅmūlaharō.narthaḥsarvēṣāṅnihatōmayā .


yatkṛkatē on whose account, cintayānasya with this thought, śōkārtasya is in grief, mamapituḥ my father, gātraiḥ body, śayanam bed, aspṛṣṭavā not understood clearly, triyāmā three periods, śarvarī night, yāti passed away, yatkṛtē by what action, kṛtsnā dark, iyaṅlaṅkā this Lanka, varṣāsu raining, nadīiva like river, ākulā agitated, saḥ he, ayam all, sarvēṣām all of us, mūlaharaḥ root cause, anarthaḥ got rid of, mayā by me, nihataḥ killed.

"On whose account my father was in grief and spent all night and passed the three parts of the night (without sleep) and why he was unable to sleep was not understood clearly. By his (Rama's) action this Lanka is agitated like a river during the rainy season. He, who is the root cause of this calamity, has been got rid of by me," thought Indrajith.
rāmasyalakṣmaṇasyaivasarvēṣāṅcavanaukasām .

vikramāniṣphalāḥsarvēyathāśaraditōyadāḥ ।।6.46.16।।


rāmasya Rama's, lakṣmaṇasyaiva and even Lakshmana's, sarvēṣām everything, vanaukasām Vanaras, sarvē all, vikramāḥ valiant, śaradi autumn, tōyadāḥiva like clouds, niṣphalāḥ wasted.

"Rama, and Lakshmana and even all valiant Vanaras have been got rid of just like clouds of autumn are wasted."
ēvamuktvātutān sarvānrākṣasānparipārśvataḥ ।।6.46.17।।

yūthapānapitānsarvāṅstāḍayāmāsarāvaṇiḥ .


saḥrāvaṇiḥ that Indrajith, tān his, sarvān all, rākṣasān Rakshasas, ēvam in that way, uktvā having spoken, paripārśvataḥ those looking at him, sarvān all, yūthapānapi army generals, tāḍayāmāsa began to strike.

Indrajith, having spoken in that way to all Rakshasas, began to strike all the Vanara leaders looking at him.
nīlaṅnavabhirāhatyamaindaṅcadvividaṅtathā ।।6.46.18।।

tribhistribhiramitraghnastatāpapravarēṣubhiḥ .


amitraghnaḥ slayer of enemies, ca and, nīlam Neela, navabhiḥ nine shafts, āhatya attacking, maindam Mainda, tathā so also, dvividam Dwivida, tribhiḥtribhiḥ three and three, pravarēṣubhiḥ sharp -edged shafts, tatāpa attacked.

The slayer of enemies, Indrajith attacked Neela with nine shafts, so also Mainda and Dwivida with three separate sharp-edged shafts.
jāmbavantaṅmahēṣvāsōvid dhvābāṇēnavakṣasi ।।6.46.19।।

hanūmatōvēgavatōvisasarjaśarāndaśa .


mahēṣvāsaḥ endowed with great bow, jāmbavantam Jambavantha, vakṣasi in the chest, bāṇēna with shafts, vid dhvā pierced, vēgavataḥ endowed with speed in war, hanūmataḥ Hanuman, daśa ten, śarān arrows, visasarja released.

Indrajith endowed with great bow pierced Jambavan in his chest, and released ten arrows at Hanuman, endowed with speed in war.
gavākṣaṅśarabhaṅcaivadvāvapyamitatējasau ।।6.46.20।।

dvābhyāṅdvābhyāṅmahāvēgōvivyādhayudhirāvaṇiḥ .


mahāvēgaḥ endowed with speed, rāvaṇiḥ Indrajith, yudhi in war, amitatējasau highly energetic, tau both, gavākṣam Gavaksha, śarabhaṅcaiva Sarabha, dvābhyāṅdvābhyām two and two, vivyādha attacked.

Indrajith endowed with speed in war, attacked highly energetic Gavaksha and Sarabha with two arrows each.
gōlāṅgūlēśvaraṅcaivavāliputramathāṅgadam ।।6.46.21।।

vivyādhabahubhirbāṇaistvaramāṇō.tharāvaṇiḥ .


atha and then, rāvaṇiḥ Ravana's son, tvaramāṇaḥ swiftly, gōlāṅgūlēśvaram ruler of Golangulas, atha and then, vāliputram Vali's son, aṅgadam Angada, bahubhiḥ many, bāṇaiḥ arrows, vivyāda pierced.

Thereafter Indrajith attacked the ruler of Golangulas, and Vali's son Angada with many arrows.
tānvānaravarānbhittvāśarairagniśikhōpamaiḥ ।।6.46.22।।

nanādabalavāṅstatramahāsattvassarāvaṇiḥ .


balavān mighty, mahāsattva: strong, saḥrāvaṇiḥ that son of Ravana, tatra there, agniśikhōpamaiḥ like flames of fire, śaraiḥ shafts, tān himself, vānaravarān best of monkeys, bhittvā attacked, nanāda and roared.

Mighty son of Ravana, then attacked the best of monkeys with arrows which were like flames of fire.
tānardhayitvābāṇaughaistrāsayitvācavānarān ।।6.46.23।।

prajahāsamahābāhurvacanaṅcēdamabravīt .


tān Indrajith, bāṇaughaiḥ hails of arrows, ardhayitvā struck, vānarān Vanaras, trāsayitvāca terrifying, mahābāhuḥ of strong arms, prajahāsa laughing, idam these, vacanaṅca words, abravīt spoken.

Indrajith hurt the Vanaras with hails of arrows terrifying them. Then the mighty armed son of Ravana laughed and spoke these words.
śaraśabdēnaghōrēṇamayābaddhaucamūmukhē ।।6.46.24।।

sahitaubhrātaravētauniśāmayatarākṣasāḥ .


rākṣasāḥ Rakshasas, ghōrēṇa terrible, śarabandhēna bound by arrows, camūmukhē in the forefront, mayā by me, baddhau bound, sahitau together, ētaubhrātarau these two brothers, niśāmayata fallen.

"O Rakshasas! Look at these two brothers together bound by my fierce arrows in front of you."
ēvamuktāstutēsarvērākṣasāḥkūṭayōdhinaḥ ।।6.46.25।।

paraṅvismayāmājagmuḥkarmaṇātēnaharṣitāḥ .


ēvam in that way, uktāḥ having said, kūṭayōdhinaḥ cheerful, tē they, sarvērākṣasāḥ all Rakshasas, tēnakarmaṇā by that action, param extremely, vismayam amazed, ājagmuḥ went, harṣitāḥ laughing.

Indrajith having spoken in that way to the Rakshasas, all of them were highly amazed by the action of Indrajith and went laughing.
vinēduścamahānādān sarvētējaladōpamāḥ ।।6.46.26।।

hatōrāmaitijñātvārāvaṇiṅsamapūjayan .


jaladōpamāḥ like clouds, tēsarvē all of them, mahānādān roaring aloud, vinēduḥ joyfully, rāmaḥ Rama, hataḥiti is killed, jñātvā thinking, rāvaṇim Son of Ravana, samapūjayan offered prayers.

The Rakshasas thundering like rain clouds, roaring aloud thinking 'Rama is killed' by Ravana's son offered prayers.
niṣpandaututadādṛṣṭavābhrātaraurāmalakṣmaṇau ।।6.46.27।।

vasudhāyāṅnirucchavāsauhatāvityanvamanyata .


tadā thereafter, niṣpandau not responding, nirucchavāsau without breathing, bhrātarau brothers, rāmalakṣmaṇau Rama and Lakshmana, vasudhāyām on the ground, dṛṣṭavā having seen, hatāviti dead, anvamanyata thought.

Thereafter having seen the two brothers Rama and Lakshmana not responding or breathing, lying on the ground, he thought they were dead.
harṣēṇatusamāviṣṭaindrajitsamitiñjayaḥ ।।6.46.28।।

pravivēśapurīṅlaṅkāṅharṣayan sarvanairvṛtān .


samitiñjayaḥ one who is victorious in battles, indrajit Indrajith, harṣēṇa felt happy, samāviṣṭaḥ collected there, sarvanairvatān for all Rakshasas, harṣayan creating happiness, laṅkāṅpurīm Lanka city, pravivēśa entered

Indrajith, who is victorious in battles, feeling happy and creating happiness to all Rakshasas collected there entered the city of Lanka.
rāmalakṣmaṇayōrdṛṣṭavāśarīrēsāyakaiścitē ।।6.46.29।।

sarvāṇicāṅgōpāṅgānisugrīvaṅbhayamāviśat .


rāmalakṣmaṇayōḥ Rama and Lakshmana, sāyakaiḥ by arrows, citē riddled with, śarīrē body, sarvāṇi all over, aṅgōpāṅgāni from head to foot, dṛṣṭavā seeing, sugrīvam Sugriva, bhayam feared, āviśat possessed.

Sugriva was overtaken by fear on seeing Rama and Lakshmana riddled with arrows from head to foot all over the body
paryavasthāpayātmānamanāthaṅmāṅcavānara ।।6.46.33।।

satyadharmābhiraktānāṅnāstimṛtyukṛtaṅbhayam .


vānara Vanara, ātmānam our self, anātham helpless, māṅca and mine, paryamāsthāpaya restoring, satyadharmāniraktānām for those following righteousness and truthfulness, mṛtyukṛtam from death, bhayam fear, nāsti not.

"O Vanara! We are helpless, be confident, for those following righteousness and truthfulness there is no fear of death."
ēvamuktvātatastasyajalaklannēnapāṇinā ।।6.46.34।।

sugrīvasyaśubhēnētrēpramamārjavibhīṣaṇaḥ .


vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, ēvam in that manner, uktvā spoken, tataḥ then, jalaklinnēna dipping in water, pāṇinā hand, tasyasugrīvasya Sugriva's, śubhē beautiful, nētrē eyes, pramamārja brightened.

Vibheeshana, having spoken in that manner, there after dipped his hand in water and wiped the beautiful eyes of Sugriva to brighten.
tatassalilamādāyavidyayāparijapyaca ।।6.46.35।।

sugrīvanētrēdharmātmāsamamārjavibhīṣaṇaḥ .


tataḥ thereafter, dharmātmā dutiful, vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, salilam water, ādāya taking, vidyayā as per tradition, parijasyaca chanting sacred text to consecrate, sugrīvanētrē Sugriva's eyes, samamārja wiped.

Thereafter the dutiful Vibheeshana taking water as per tradition consecrated chanting sacred text and wiped Sugriva's eyes.
vimṛjyavadanaṅtasyakapirājasyadhīmataḥ ।।6.46.36।।

abravītkālasamprāptasambhrāntamidaṅvacaḥ .


dhīmataḥ wise, tasyakapirājasya that monkey king, vadanam countenance, vimṛjya wiped clean, kālasamprāptam as per that time, asambhrāntam opportune, idaṅvacaḥ these words, abravīt spoke.

Wise Vibheeshana having wiped Sugriva's face clean in accordance with time addressed with opportune words.
nakālaḥkapirājēndravaiklabyamavalambitum ।।6.46.37।।

atisnēhō.pyakālē.sminmaraṇāyōpakalpatē .


kapirājēndra monkey king, vaiklabyam faint heartedness, avalambitum to follow, kālaḥ time, na not this, asmin our, kālē time, atisnēhō.pya with extreme attachment, maraṇāya death, upakalpatē lead.

"O king of monkeys! This is not the time for faint heartedness. Extreme attachment at this time will lead us to death."
tasmādutsṛjyavaiklabyaṅsarvakāryavināśanam ।।6.46.38।।

hitaṅrāmapurōgaṇāṅsainyānānucintyatām .


tasmāt therefore, sarvakāryavināśanam all actions will be destroyed, vaiklabyam faint-heartedness, utsṛjya give up, rāmapurōgaṇām following Rama, sainyānām army, hitam welfare, anucintyatām think of.

"Therefore, give up faint-heartedness as all actions will be destroyed by that. Following Rama's leadership, think of the army's welfare."
athavārakṣyatāṅrāmōyāvatsaṅjñāviparyayaḥ ।।6.46.39।।

labdhasaṅjñauhikākutsthaubhayaṅnauvyapanēṣyataḥ .


athavā or else, yāvatsaṅjñāviparyayaḥ till they become conscious, rāmaḥ Rama, rakṣyatām protect, labdhasaṅjñau when they get back consciousness, kākutsthau both Kakuthsa princes, nau, bhayam fear, vyapanēṣyataḥhi will be able to get rid off.

"Or else till they become conscious, protect the Kakuthsa princes. When they become conscious, they can get rid of our fear."
naitatkiñcanarāmasyanacarāmōmumūrṣati ।।6.46.40।।

nahyēnaṅhāsyatēlakṣmīddurlabhāyāgatāyuṣām .


ētat therefore, rāmasya Rama's, kiñcana even a little, na not, rāmaḥ Rama, namumūrṣati not going to die, yā whatever, gatāyuṣām life is lost, durlabhā difficult, lakṣmīḥ prosperous, ēnam , nahāsyatēhi not leave him.

"Therefore, Rama has no fear of death, even a little. Whatever splendour is lost, prosperity will not leave him."
tasmādāśvāsayātmānaṅbalaṅcāśvāsayasvakam ।।6.46.41।।

yāvatkāryāṇisarvāṇipunaḥsaṅsthāpayāmyaham .


tasmāt therefore, ātmānam ourselves, āśvāsaya restoring breath, svakam myself, balam army, āśvāsaya reassure, aham I, sarvāṇi all, kāryāni actions, punaḥ again, yāvat saṅsthāpayāmi all the army restore confidence.

"Therefore, restoring breath let us reassure the army again till all actions are carried out by restoring their confidence."
ētēhiphullanayanāstrāsādāgatasādhvasāḥ ।।6.46.42।।

karṇēkarṇēprakathitāharayōharisattama .


harisattama monkey leader, ētē these, harayaḥ monkeys, phullanayanāḥ dilated eyes, trāsāt by fear, āgatasādhvasāḥ seized with fear, karṇēkarṇē ear to ear, prakathitāḥ talking to each other.

"O Monkey leader! these monkeys whose eyes have become big (are dilated) with fear are talking ear to ear (about Rama)."
māṅtudṛṣṭavāpradhāvantamanīkaṅsampraharṣitum ।।6.46.43।।

tyajastuharayastrāsaṅbhuktapūrvāmivasrajam .


anīkam army forces, sampraharṣitum made them happy, pradhāvantam inherent, mām me, dṛṣṭavā seeing, harayaḥ monkeys, trāsam moving in fear, bhuktapūrvam enjoyed earlier, srajam garland of flowers, iva like that, tyajantu discard.

"Let the army forces of monkeys be happy seeing me moving, getting rid of the inherent fear in them just as they discard a garland of flowers enjoyed by them earlier."
samāśvāsyatusugrīvaṅrākṣasēndrōvibhīṣaṇaḥ ।।6.46.44।।

vidrutaṅvānarānīkaṅtatsamāśvāsayatpunaḥ .


rākṣasēndraḥ king of Rakshasas, vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, sugrīvam to Sugriva, samāśvāsya assured, vidrutam knowing, tat vānarānīkam that Vanara army, punaḥ again, samāśvāsayat reassured.

The king of Rakshasas, Vibheeshana having assured Sugriva, knowing the Vanara army he reassured them.
indrajittumahāmāyaḥsarvasainyasamāvṛtaḥ ।।6.46.45।।

vivēśanagarīṅlaṅkāṅpitaraṅcābhyupāgamat .


mahāmāyaḥ great, indrajittuḥ Indrajith, sarvasainyasamāvṛtaḥ all the army surrounding him, laṅkāṅ Lanka nagarīm City, vivēśa entered, pitaram father, abhyupāgamat ca approached.

Great Indrajith surrounded by all army entered the city of Lanka and approached his father.
tatrarāvaṇamāsādyaabhivādyakṛtāñjaliḥ ।।6.46.46।।

ācacakṣēpriyaṅpitrēnihataurāmalakṣmaṇau .


tatra there, rāvaṇam Ravana, āsādya having reached, abhivādya greeted, kṛtāñjaliḥ with folded palms, rāmalakṣmaṇau Rama and Lakshmana, nihatau are killed, pitrē O father, priyam dear, ācacakṣē broke the news.

Having reached Ravana, Indrajith greeted him with folded palms and broke the pleasant news, "Rama and Lakshmana are killed."
utpapātatatōhṛṣṭaḥputraṅcapariṣasvajē ।।6.46.47।।

rāvaṇōrakṣasāṅmadhyēśrutvāśatrūnipātitau .


rakṣasām Rakshasas, madhyē midst, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, śatrū enemy, nipātitau killed, śrutvā hearing, tataḥ then, hṛṣṭaḥ rejoiced, utpapāta got up, putram son, parṣisvajēca embraced

In the midst of Rakshasas, Ravana hearing the news of his enemies being killed, rejoiced, and got up from his couch and embraced his son.
upāghrāyacataṅmūd rnēnaṅpapracchaprītamānasaḥ ।।6.46.48।।

pṛcchatēcayathāvṛttaṅpitrētasmaisarvaṅnyavēdayat .

yathātauśarabandhēnaniścēṣṭauniṣprabhaukṛtau ।।6.46.49।।


pṛcchatē enquired, pitrē father, tau both of them, śarabandhēna from the network of arrows, niścēṣṭau stunned, niṣprabhau splendour gone, yathā like that, kṛtau did, tasmai their, yathāvṛttam all in detail, nyavēdayat presented.

Delighted Ravana kissed his son on the forehead and enquired of him of the details. Indrajith presented details saying that both Rama and Lakshmana were stunned in the network of arrows, and lost splendour.
saharṣavēgānugatāntarātmāśrutvāvacastasyamahārathasya .

jahaujvaraṅdāśarathēḥsamutthitaṅprahṛṣyavācā.bhinanandaputram ।।6.46.50।।


mahārathasya of the great chariot warrior, tasya his, vacaḥ words, śrutvā on hearing, harṣavēgānugatāntarātmā filled with joy at heart, saḥ he, dāśarathēḥ Dasaratha's son, samutthitam fear, jvaram agony, jahau gone, prahṛṣyavācā joyful words, putram son, abhinananda greeted.

Hearing the words of the great chariot warrior, Ravana was filled with excessive joy at heart. His fear and agony of Dasaratha's son having gone on hearing the words of his son, Ravana greeted him.
।। ityārṣēvālmīkīyēśrīmadrāmāyaṇēādikāvyēyuddhakāṇḍēṣaṭacatvāriṅśassargaḥ ।।
