Vajradamshtra, the mighty Rakshasa became enraged with the destruction of his army and victory of Angada.
विष्पार्यचधनुर्घोरंशक्राशनिसमस्वनम् ।
वानराणामनीकानिप्राकिरच्छरवृष्टिभिः ।।6.54.2।।

शक्राशनिसमप्रभम् had the splendour of Indra's thunderbolt, घोरम् terrific, धनुः bow, विस्फार्यः stretching, वानराणाम् at Vanaras, अनीकानि army troops, शरवृष्टिभिः showers of shafts, प्राकिरत् assailed.
Stretching his terrific bow which had the splendour of Indra's bow he (Vajradamshtra) showered shafts at the army troops of Vanaras and assailed them.
राक्षसाश्चापिमुख्यास्तेरथेषुसमवस्थिताः ।
नानाप्रहरणाश्शूराःप्रायुध्यन्तस्तदारणे ।।6.54.3।।

रथेषु at chariots, समवस्थिताः seated, मुख्याः chief, ते they, शूराः heroes, राक्षसाश्चापि Rakshasas also, नानाप्रहरणाः different weapons, तदा then, रणे in the combat, प्रायुध्यन्त fought steadily.
Seated firmly on the chariots the chiefs and heroes of Rakshasas also fought steadily with different weapons in the combat.
वानराणांचशूरायेतेसर्वेप्लवगर्षभाः ।

वानराणाम् Vanaras, शूराः warriors, येसर्वे all, तेप्लवगोत्तमाः best of Vanaras, समनत्तः together, समवेताः gathered, शिलाहस्ताः with rocks in hand, अयुद्यन्त contended.
The best of Vanara warriors also gathered together with rocks in hand contended.
तत्रायुधसहस्राणितस्मिन्नायोधनेभृशम् ।
राक्षसाःकपिमुख्येषुपातयांचक्रिरेतदा ।।6.54.5।।

Then in that battle the Rakshasas went on hurling thousands of missiles at the chiefs of Vanaras.

Between the heroes fighting the battle, who never returned, Great War continued between Rakshasas troops and Vanaras.

केचित् some, हरयः monkeys, राक्षसाश्चैव Rakshasas also, प्रभिन्नशिरसः heads severed, छिन्नैः broken, पादैः feet, बाहुभिः many, शस्त्रै weapons:, आर्दितदेहाः bodies mangled, रुधिरेण in blood, समुक्षिताः bathed in blood, कङ्कगृध्रावळैराढ्याश्च arms and feet looped over neck, गोमायुगलसङ्कुलाः as prey to buzzards, vultures and crows, गाम् devolving, समाश्रिताः surrounded by, शेरते lay strewn.
There lay strewn some monkeys and Rakshasas also with severed heads, broken feet, with many weapons mangled with bodies, bathed in blood, arms and feet looped to necks devolving as prey to buzzards, vultures and crows surrounded.
कबन्धानिसमुत्पेतुर्भीमाणांभीषणानिवै ।
भुजपाणिशिरश्छिन्नकायाश्चभूतले ।।6.54.10।।

भीरूणाम् timid ones, भीषणानि headless trunks, कबन्धानि arms, भूतले on the ground, समुत्पेतुः gathered, भुजपाणिशिरछशिन्नाः with arms heads and hand s severed, छिन्नकायाश्च whose trunks were cut off, वानराः Vanara, राक्षसाश्चापि even Rakshasas, तत्र there, वैरणे in the battlefield, निपेतुः lay.
Then in the battlefield, the timid vanaras and even rakshasas with their arms and heads cut off, bodies wounded allover dropped down.
ततोवानरसैन्येनहन्यमानंनिशाचरम् ।।6.54.11।।
प्राभज्यतबलंसर्वंवज्रदंष्ट्रस्यपश्यतः ।
प्राभज्यतबलंसर्वंवज्रदंष्ट्रस्यपश्यतः ।
ततः thereafter, निशाचरम् night rangers, सर्वंबलम् all army, वानरसैन्येन Vanara troops, हन्यमानम् killed, वज्रदंष्ट्रस्य Vajradamshtra's, पश्यतः stood looking, प्राभज्यत ran helterskelter.
Thereafter Rakshasas were killed by Vanaras as Vajradamshtra kept looking at them and the Rakshasas ran from there.
राक्षसान्भयवित्रस्तान्हन्यमानान् प्लवङ्गमैः ।।6.54.12।।
दृष्टवासरोषताम्राक्षोवज्रदंष्ट्रःप्रतापवान् ।
प्रविवेशधनुष्पाणिस्त्रासयन्हरिवाहिनीम् ।।6.54.13।।

प्लवङ्गमैः monkeys, हन्यमानान् struck by, भयवित्रस्तान् stricken with fear, राक्षसान् Rakshasas, दृष्टवा seeing, प्रतापवान् valiant, सः he, वज्रदंष्ट्रः Vajradamshtra, रोषताम्राक्षः eyes turned red in anger, धनुष्पाणिः bow in hand, हरिवाहिनीम् Vanara troops, त्रासयन् terrifying, प्रविवेश penetrated.
Struck by monkeys the Rakshasas were in fear. Seeing the Rakshasas Vajraddamshtra's eyes turned red in anger with bow in hand penetrating the Vanara troops terrifying them.
शरैर्विदारयामासकङ्कपत्रैरजिह्मगैः ।
बिभेदवानरांस्तत्रसप्ताष्टौनवपञ्चच ।।6.54.14।।
विव्याधपरमक्रुद्धोवज्रदंष्ट्रःप्रतापवान् ।
बिभेदवानरांस्तत्रसप्ताष्टौनवपञ्चच ।।6.54.14।।
विव्याधपरमक्रुद्धोवज्रदंष्ट्रःप्रतापवान् ।
प्रतापवान् valiant one, वज्रदंष्ट्रः Vajradamshtra, परमक्रुद्धः very furious, कङ्कपत्रैः plumes of buzzard, अजिह्मगैः which never missed the target, शरैः arrows, तत्र there, सप्त seven, अष्टौ eight, नव nine, पञ्चच five also, वानरान् Vanaras, विव्याध struck them, विदारयामास pierced.
Valiant Vajradamshtra became very furious and pierced with arrows of plumes of buzzard which never missed target in seven, eight, nine and five Vanaras at a time.
त्रस्ताःसर्वेहरिगणाःशरैःसङ्कृत्तकन्दरा:।। 6.54.15।।
अङ्गदंसम्प्रधावन्तिप्रजापतिमिवप्रजाः ।
अङ्गदंसम्प्रधावन्तिप्रजापतिमिवप्रजाः ।
शरैः arrows, सङ्कृत्तकन्दरा: broken necks, सर्वे all, हरिगणाः Vanaras, त्रस्ताः out of fear, प्रजाः people, प्रजापतिमिव like creator Brahma, अङ्गदम् Angada, सम्प्रधावन्त sought protection.
Struck with fear the Vanaras sought the protection of Angada just as people seek protection of Brahma, the creator of beings.
ततोहरिगणान् भग्नान् दृष्टवावालिसुतस्तदा ।।6.54.16।।
क्रोधेनवज्रदंष्ट्रंतमुदीक्षन्तमुदैक्षत ।
क्रोधेनवज्रदंष्ट्रंतमुदीक्षन्तमुदैक्षत ।
तदा then, वालिसुतः Vali's son, भग्नान् broken, हरिगणान् monkeys, दृष्टवा gazing, ततः then, उदीक्षन्तम् looking at them, वज्रदंष्ट्रम् Vajradamshtra, क्रोधेन in anger, उदैक्षत faced himself.
Then the son of Vali gazing at the broken monkeys looking at Vajradamshtra in anger, faced himself.
वज्रदंष्ट्रोऽङ्गदश्चोभौसङ्गतौहरिराक्षसौ ।।6.54.17।।
चेरतुःपरमक्रुद्धौहरिमत्तगजाविव ।
चेरतुःपरमक्रुद्धौहरिमत्तगजाविव ।
वज्रदंष्ट्रः Vajradamshtra, अङ्गदश्च Angada's, उभौ both, हरिराक्षसौ monkeys and Rakshasas, सङ्गतौ strode, हरिमत्तगजामिव like lion and elephant in rut, परमक्रुद्धौ enraged, चेरतुः fought.
Vajradamshtra and Angada both enraged and strode among Rakshasas and monkeys and fought like a lion and intoxicated elephant.
ततश्शतसहस्रेणहरिपुत्रंमहाबलः ।।6.54.18।।
जघानमर्मदेशेषुमातङ्गमिवतोमरैः ।
जघानमर्मदेशेषुमातङ्गमिवतोमरैः ।
ततः then, महाबलः endowed with great strength, हरिपुत्रम् monkey 's son, शतसहस्रेण hundred thousand, मातङ्गमिवतोमरैः like an elephants is pierced with clubs, मर्मदेशेषु private parts, जघान pierced.
Then Angada endowed with great strength, pierced Vajradamshtra in his private parts with clubs used for piercing elephants.
रुधिरोक्षितसर्वाङ्गोवालिसूनुर्महाबलः ।।6.54.19।।
चिक्षेपवज्रदंष्ट्रायवृक्षंभीमपराक्रमः ।
चिक्षेपवज्रदंष्ट्रायवृक्षंभीमपराक्रमः ।
रुधिरोक्षितसर्वाङ्गः all limbs bathed in blood, महाबलः mighty, भीमपराक्रमः of terrific valour, वालिसूनुः Vali's son, वज्रदंष्ट्राय at Vajradamshtra, वृक्षम् tree, चिक्षेप shattered.
Angada who was endowed with great strength all his limbs bathed in blood and terrific valour took hold of a huge tree and shattered Vajradamshtra.
दृष्टापतन्तंतंवृक्षमसम्भ्रान्तश्चराक्षसः ।।6.54.20।।
चिच्छेदबहुधासोऽपिमथितःप्रादतद्भुवि ।
चिच्छेदबहुधासोऽपिमथितःप्रादतद्भुवि ।
राक्षसः Rakshasa, अपतन्तम् hurled, तंवृक्षम् that tree, दृष्टवा seeing, असम्भ्रान्तः not bewildered, बहुधा many, चिच्छेद pieces broken to, सोऽपि completed, मथितः shaken, भुवि ground, प्रापतत् fell.
That Rakshasa (Vajradamshtra) seeing the tree coming towards him was not bewildered. He shattered it into pieces, and it fell on the ground.
तंदृष्टवावज्रदंष्ट्रस्यविक्रमंप्लवगर्षभ ।।6.54.21।।
प्रगृह्यविपुलंशैलंचिक्षेपचननादच ।

प्लवगर्षभः bull of monkeys, वज्रदंष्ट्रस्य Vajradamshtra's, तंविक्रमम् that valour, दृष्टवा seeing, विपुलम् vast, शैलम् hillock, प्रगृह्य seizing, चिक्षेपच broken, ननादच making loud sound.
The bull among monkeys, Angada seeing the valour of Vajradamshtra seizing a huge hillock hurled at the Rakshasa making loud sounds and breaking.
समापतन्तंदृष्टवासरथादाप्लुत्यवीर्यवान् ।।6.54.22।।
गदापाणिरसम्भ्रान्तःपृथिव्यांसमतिष्ठत ।
गदापाणिरसम्भ्रान्तःपृथिव्यांसमतिष्ठत ।
वीर्यवान् valiant one, सः he, अपतन्तम् , तम् them, दृष्टवा looking, असम्भ्रान्तः not perplexed, गदापाणिः mace in hand, रथात् from chariot, आप्लुत्य leaping, पृथिव्याम् on ground, समतिष्ठत sat.
The valiant Rakshasa who was not perplexed with mace in hand leaping down the chariot looking (at the hillock hurled) sat on the ground.
साङ्गदेनगदाक्षिप्तागत्वातुरणमूर्धनि ।।6.54.23।।
सचक्रकूबरंसाश्वंप्रममाथरथंतदा ।

स he, आङ्गदेव by Angada, क्षिप्ता discharged, शिला hillock, गत्वा went, रणमूर्धनि forefront of the battle, तदा then, सचक्रकूबरम् the wheels and pole, साश्वम् totally, रथम् chariot, प्रममाथ shattered.
The hillock discharged by Angada went right in the forefront of the battle and shattered the chariot along with its wheels and pole.
ततोऽन्यच्छिखरंगृह्यविपुलंद्रुमभूषितम् ।।6.54.24।।
वज्रदंष्ट्रस्यशिरसिपातयामाससाऽङ्गदः ।
वज्रदंष्ट्रस्यशिरसिपातयामाससाऽङ्गदः ।
ततः then, सः he, अङ्गदः Angada, द्रुमभाषितम् adorned with trees, विपुलम् huge, अन्यत् other, शिखरम् peak, गृह्य seizing, वज्रदंष्ट्रस्य on Vajradamshtra, शिरसि head, पातयामास hurled.
Then Angada seized a huge hillock adorned with trees hurled at Vajradamshtra.
अभवच्छोणितोद्गारीवज्रदंष्ट्रस्समूर्छितः ।।6.54.25।।
मुहूर्तमभवन्मूढोगदामालिङ् ग्यनिश्श्वसन् ।
मुहूर्तमभवन्मूढोगदामालिङ् ग्यनिश्श्वसन् ।
सःवज्रदंष्ट्रः Vajradamshtra, शोणितोद्गारी vomiting blood, मूर्छितः unconscious, अभवत् became, गदाम् mace, आलिङ् ग्य clasping, निश्श्वसन् breathing heavily, मुहूर्तम् for a while, मूढः senseless, अभवत् remained.
Vajradamshtra vomiting blood became unconscious and clasping his mace breathing heavily he remained senseless for a while.
संलब्दसंज्ञोगदयावालिपुत्रमवस्थितम् ।।6.54.26।।
जघानपरमक्रुद्धोवक्षोदेशेनिशाचरः ।
जघानपरमक्रुद्धोवक्षोदेशेनिशाचरः ।
संलब्दसंज्ञः regaining senses, निशाचरः night ranger, परमक्रुद्धः extremely angry, अवस्थितम् stood firmly, वालिपुत्रम् Vali's son, वक्षोदेशे direction of the chest, गदया with mace, जघान attacked.
The night ranger regained his senses, extremely angry, stood firmly and attacked Angada, son of Vali on his chest with his mace.
गदांत्यक्त्वाततस्तत्रमुष्टियुद्धमवर्तत ।।6.54.27।।
अन्योन्यंजघ्नतुस्तत्रतावुभौहरिराक्षसौ ।
अन्योन्यंजघ्नतुस्तत्रतावुभौहरिराक्षसौ ।
ततः then, गदाम् mace, त्यक्त्वा leaving off, तत्र there, मुष्टियुद्धम् duel fight, अवर्तत started, तौ they both, हरिराक्षसौ monkey and Rakshasas, उभौ both, तत्र there, अन्योन्यम् one another, जघ्नतुः fought.
Then leaving off the mace, a dual fight started there between one another, the monkeys, and Rakshasas.
रुधिरोद्गारिणौतौतुप्रहारैर्जनितश्रमौ ।।6.54.28।।
बभूवतुस्सुविक्रान्तावङ्गारकबुधाविव ।
बभूवतुस्सुविक्रान्तावङ्गारकबुधाविव ।
प्रहारैः exhausted, जनितश्रमौ out of strain, रुधिरोद्गारिणौ spit out blood, तौ both, सुविक्रान्तौ very valiant, अङ्गारकबुधाविव like planets Angaraka and Budha (Mars and Mercury), बभूवतुः remained.
Exhausted by strain both very valiant fought like planets Angaraka and Budha and spit out blood.
ततःपरमतेजस्वीअङ्गदःप्लवगर्षभः ।।6.54.29।।
उत्पाट्यवृक्षंस्थितवान् बहुपुष्पफलाञ्चितम् ।
उत्पाट्यवृक्षंस्थितवान् बहुपुष्पफलाञ्चितम् ।
ततः then, परमतेजस्वी highly energetic, प्लवगर्षभः bull among monkeys, अङ्गदः Angada, बहुपुष्प many flowers, फलाञ्चितम् and fruits, वृक्षम् trees, उत्पाट्य uprooted, स्थितवान् standing.
Then highly energetic, bull among Vanaras, Angada, uprooting a tree full of many flowers and fruits stood there.
जग्राहचार्षभंचर्मखडगंचविपुलंशुभम् ।।6.54.30।।
किङ्किणाजालसञ्छन्नंचर्मणाचपरिष्कृतम् ।

विपुलम् huge, शुभम् bright, किङ्किणीजालसञ्छन्नम् shield made of bull hide decorated with tiny bells, आर्षभंचर्म made with hide, चर्मणा hide, परिष्कृतम् encased, खडगंच sword also, जग्राह held.
(The Rakshasa seized) a huge bright sword, a shield decorated with tiny bells and sword encased in hide sheath.
चित्रांश्चरुचिरान्मार्गांश्चेरतुःकपिराक्षसौ ।।6.54.31।।
जघ्नतुश्चतदान्योन्यंनिर्दयंजयकाङ् क्षिणौ ।
जघ्नतुश्चतदान्योन्यंनिर्दयंजयकाङ् क्षिणौ ।
तदा then, जयकाङ् क्षिणौ desiring victory, कपिराक्षसौ monkey and Rakshasa, निर्दयम् passionately, चित्रान् wonderful, मार्गान् ways, चेरतुः struck, अन्योन्यम् one another, जघ्नतुश्च harshly.
Then desiring victory both monkey and Rakshasa struck one another passionately in wonderful harsh ways.
व्रणैस्सास्त्रैरशोभेतांपुष्पिताविवकिंशुकौ ।।6.54.32।।
युध्यमानौपरिश्रान्तौजानुभ्यामवनींगतौ ।

सास्त्रै: streaming, व्रणैः wounds, पुष्पितौ blossomed, किंशुकाविव Kimsuka like, शोभेताम् charming, युध्यमानौ in the battlefield, परिश्रान्तौ exhausted, जानुभ्याम् knees, अवनीम् on the ground, गतौ sat.
Their wounds streaming blood, exhausted in the battlefield, when they rested on their knees on the ground, they were like charming Kimsuka blossoms.
निमेषान्तरमात्रेणअङ्गदःकपिकुञ्जरः ।।6.54.33।।

कपिकुञ्जरः elephant among the monkeys, अङ्गदः Angada, निमेषान्तरमात्रेण time of twinkling of the eyes दीप्ताक्षः eyes glowing, दण्डाहतः struck by staff, उरगःइव serpent like, उदतिष्ठत rose up.
Angada, the elephant among the monkeys rose up in the mere twinkling of eyes, like a serpent struck by staff glowing in his eyes.

राक्षसाः Rakshasa, वज्रदंष्ट्रम् Vajradamshtra, हतम् killed, दृष्टवा seeing, भयमोहिताः deluded in fear, प्लवङ्गमैः monkeys, वध्यमानाः struck by monkeys, विषण्णवदनाः panic stricken, ह्रिया in shame, किञ्चित् heads bent, अवाङ्मुखाः faces, woebegone, लङ्काम् Lanka, अभ्यद्रवन् fled.
Deluded with fear, the Rakshasas seeing Vajradamshtra killed by monkeys, panic stricken, heads bent in shame, faces woebegone fled to Lanka.
