Looking at the deeds of enemies, deluded with violent anger, Akampana spoke these words holding the bow and looking at the charioteer.
तत्त्त्वैतावत्त्वरितंरथंप्रापयसारथे ।
यत्रैतेबहवोघ्नन्तिसुबहून्राक्षसान्रणे ।।6.56.3।।
सारथे O Charioteer, यत्र there, बहव: many, एते those, रणे in battle, सुबहून् many, राक्षसान् Rakshasas, घ्नन्ति destroyed, त्वरितः quickly, तत्त्रैव to that place, रथम् chariot, प्रापय drive.
"O Charioteer, quickly drive the chariot to that place where many Rakshasas are destroyed in the battle."
एतेऽत्रबलवन्तोहिभीमकोपाश्चवानराः ।
द्रुमशैलप्रहरणास्तिष्ठन्तिप्रमुखेमम ।।6.56.4।।
बलवन्तः mighty, भीमकोपाश्च terribly angry, एते those, वानराः Vanara, द्रुमशैलप्रहरणाः using trees and hillocks as weapons, अत्र there, मम my, प्रमुखे chiefs, तिष्ठन्तिहि stand.
"Those Vanaras are mighty and terribly angry. They are using trees and hillocks as weapons. Take me where chiefs are standing."
एतान्निहन्तुमिच्छामिसमरश्लाघिनोह्यहम् ।
एतैःप्रमथितंसर्वंदृश्यतेराक्षसांबलम् ।।6.56.5।।
अहम् I, समरश्लाघिनः boast of their warfare, एतान् them, निहन्तुम् will finish, इच्छामि desire to, रक्षसाम् Rakshasas, सर्वम् all, बलम् army, एतैः in the same way, प्रमथिम् end, दृश्यते wish to see.
"I wish to see the end of Vanaras who boast of their warfare. The entire Rakshasa army is destroyed by them."
ततःप्रजवनाश्वेनरथेनरथिनांवरः ।
हरीनभ्यहनत्क्रोधाच्छरजालैकम्पनः ।।6.56.6।।
ततः then, रथिनाम् on the chariot, वरः foremost, अकम्पनः Akampana, प्रचलिताश्वेन by fast moving horses, रथेन from chariot, शरजालैः network of arrows, त्क्रोधात् enraged, हरीन् Vanaras, अभ्यहनत् assailed.
Then Akampana seated in the chariot drawn by fast moving horses, assailed the Vanaras with a network of arrows.
नस्थातुंवानराश्शेकुःकिंपुनर्योद्धुमाहवे ।
अकम्पनशरैर्भग्नास्सर्वएवविदुद्रुवुः ।।6.56.7।।
वानराः Vanaras, आहवे counter, स्थातुम् to stand, नशेकुः not fight, योद्धुम् in battle, किंपुनः What to say again, सर्वेएव all, अकम्पनशरैः by Akampana's arrows, भग्नाः shattered, विदुद्रुवुः took to their heels.
The Vanaras could not counter or stand nor fight in battle. What to say more? Shattered by Akampana's arrows, they all took to their heels.
तान्मृत्युवशमापन्नानकम्पनवंशगतान् ।
समीक्ष्यहनुमान्ज्ञातीनुपतस्थेमहाबलः ।।6.56.8।।
अकम्पनवंशगतान् kith and kin fallen under the sway of Akampana, मृत्युवशम् sway of death, आपन्नान् caught by, तान् them, ज्ञातीन् kin, समीक्ष्य observing, महाबलः mighty, हनुमान् Hanuman, उपतस्थे approached.
Having observed that Vanaras are fallen under the sway of Akampana and under the sway of death, mighty Hanuman approached Akampana.
तंमहाप्लवगंदृष्टवासर्वेतेप्लवगयूथपा: ।
समेत्यसमरेवीरास्सहिताःपर्यवारयन् ।।6.56.9।।
वीराः hero, ते you, सर्वे all, प्लवगयूतपा: troops of Vanaras, महाप्लवगम् great monkey, तम् him, दृष्टवा seeing, समेत्य together, सहिताः along with, पर्यवारयन् surrounded.
Seeing the great monkey, the Vanara troops got together and surrounded him.
अवस्थितंहनूमन्तंतेदृष्टवाहरियूथपा: ।
बभूवुर्बलवन्तोहिबलवन्तंसमाश्रिताः ।।6.56.10।।
ते to you, हरियूथपा: monkey leaders, अवस्थितम् firmly established, हनूमन्तम् Hanuman, दृष्टवा seeing, बलवन्तम् strong, समाश्रिताः taken shelter, बभूवुः became.
Seeing Hanuman, the monkey leaders took their shelter under him, got established firmly and became strong.
अकम्पनस्तुशैलाभंहनूमन्तमवस्थितम् ।
महेन्द्रइवदाराभिश्शरैरभिववर्षह ।।6.56.11।।
अकम्पनस्तु Akampana also, अवस्थितम् established, शैलाभम् like a mountain, हनूमन्तम् Hanumantha, धाराभिः torrents, महेन्द्रःइव like Indra, शरैः arrows, अभिनवर्षह showered rain.
On Akampana, who was well established like a mountain, mighty Hanuman showered torrents of arrows like Indra showered rain.
अचिन्तयित्वाबाणौघान् शरीरेपतितान्शितान् ।
अकम्पनवधार्थायमनोदध्रेमहाबलः ।।6.56.12।।
महाबलः mighty, शितान् pierced, शरीरे in the body, पतितान् fallen, बाणौघान् volley of arrows, अचिन्तयित्वा un mindful, अकम्पनवधार्थाय for destroying Akampana, मनः mind, दध्रे thought.
Mighty Hanuman unmindful of the volley of arrows pierced in his body thought in his mind only about the destruction of Akampana.
सप्रहस्यमहातेजाहनुमान् मारुतात्मजः ।
अभिदुद्रावतद्रक्षःकम्पयन्निवमेदिनीम् ।।6.56.13।।
महातेजाः highly energetic, मारुतात्मजः son of Maruti, सः he, हनुमान् Hanuman, प्रहस्य laughing, मेदिनीम् earth, कम्पयन्निव to shake, तत् रक्षः to that Rakshasa, अभिदुद्राव sprung up.
Hanuman, the highly energetic son of Maruthi laughing, sprung up causing the earth to shake and rushed to that Rakshasa.
तस्याभिनर्दमानस्यदीप्यमानस्यतेजसा ।
बभूवरूपंदुर्धर्षंदीप्तस्येवविभावसोः ।।6.56.14।।
अभि super, नर्दमानस्य as he roared, तेजसा brilliance, दीप्यमानस्य blazing, तस्य his, रूपम् form, दीप्तस्य burning, विभावसोःइव like, दुर्धर्षम् formidable to win, बभूव became.
As he roared, his brilliance was blazing, his form was burning and became formidable for others to be at him.
आत्मानंमप्रहरणंज्ञात्वाक्रोधसमन्वितः ।
शैलमुत्पाटयामासवेगेनहरिपुङ्गवः ।।6.56.15।।
हरिपुङ्गवः Vanara leader, आत्मानम् himself, अप्रहरणम् without any weapon, ज्ञात्वा knowing, क्रोधसमन्वितः full of anger, वेगेन quickly, शैलम् mountain, उत्पाटयामास took up.
Vanara leader himself knowing that he is without any weapon, full of anger took up a mountain quickly.
आकाशे in the sky, रक्षोबाणविदारितम् by Rakshasa's arrows broken, विकीर्णम् into pieces, पतितम् fallen, तत् that, पर्वताग्रम् peak of mountain, दृष्टवा gazing, हनुमान् Hanuman, क्रोधमूर्छितः deluded with anger.
Hanuman seeing the peak of the mountain broken into pieces by Rakshasa's arrows and fallen was deluded with anger.
सोऽश्वकर्णंसमासाद्यरोषदर्पान्वितोहरिः ।
तूर्णमुत्पाटयामासमहागिरिमिवोच्छ्रितम् ।।6.56.20।।
सः he, हरिः monkey, रोषदर्पान्वितः pride and anger, महागिरिमिव like a big mountain, उच्छ्रितम् collecting, अश्वकर्णम् Aswakarana tree, समासाद्य holding, तूर्णम् quickly, उत्पाटयामास uprooted.
He (Hanuman) filled with pride and anger quickly uprooted an Aswakarana tree as huge as a mountain and held it.
तंगृहीत्वामहास्कन्धंसोऽश्वकर्णंमहाद्युतिः ।
प्रहस्यपरयाप्रीत्याभ्रामयामासभूतले ।।6.56.21।।
महाद्युतिः endowed with great splendour, सः he, महास्कन्धम् with huge trunk, अश्वकर्णम् Aswakarana tree, गृहीत्वा seizing, परया great, प्रीत्या with delight, प्रहस्य laughing, भूतले on the ground, भ्रामयामास whirled it round.
He (Hanuman) endowed with great splendour, seizing a huge trunk of Aswakarana tree with great delight, whirled it round on the ground laughing.
हनुमान् Hanuman, सगजारोहान् the mahouts, गजांश्च and elephants, तथा similarly, सरथान् the chariots, रथिनः and riders, भीमान् terrific, पदातिगान् on foot, राक्षसान् च with Rakshasas, जघान struck.
Hanuman struck the mahouts, elephants, similarly the chariots and riders of chariots as well as the terrific Rakshasas who fought standing on feet.
क्रुद्धम् angry, अन्तकमिव like spirit of death, सद्रुमम् those trees, प्राणहारिणम् took life, तंहनूमन्तम् that Hanuman, अभिप्रेक्ष्य seeing, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, विप्रदुद्रुवुः took to heels.
Hanuman, enraged like the spirit of death, took their life (Rakshasas) armed with trees and on seeing him the Rakshasas took to their heels.
With fourteen pointed powerful arrows, Akampana tormented and split the body of Hanuman.
सतदाप्रतिविद्धस्तुबह्वीभिश्शरवृष्टभिः ।
हनूमान्ददृशेवीरःप्ररूढइवसानुमान् ।।6.56.27।।
शरवृष्टिभिः rain of arrows, बह्वीभिः many times, तदा then, प्रतिविद्दस्तु interrupted, वीरः valiant one, सःहनुमान् that Hanuman, प्ररूढः stood still, सानुमानिव like a mountain with trees, ददृशे seemed.
Valiant Hanuman, even though interrupted several times with rain of arrows, stood still like a mountain full of trees.
विरराजमहाकायोमहावीर्योमहामना: ।
पुष्पिताशोकसङ्काशोविधूमइवपावकः ।।6.56.28।।
महावीर्यः exceedingly valiant, महाकायः gigantic, महामना: courageous, पुष्पिताशोकसङ्काशः like fully blossomed Ashoka trees, विधूमः smokeless, पावकःइव like fire, विरराज shone.
The gigantic Hanuman, exceedingly valiant and courageous one shone like a fully blossomed Ashoka tree, resembled smokeless fire.
Then Hanuman performed another supreme deed by uprooting a tree and striking on the head of Akampana, the chief of Rakshasas.
सवृक्षेणहतस्तेनसक्रोधेनमहात्मना ।
राक्षसोवानरेन्द्रेणपपातचममारच ।।6.56.30।।
सक्रोधेन reacting in anger, महात्मना great self, तेनवानरेन्द्रेण by Vanara chief, वृक्षेण by the tree, हतः striking, सः he, राक्षसः Rakshasa, पपात fell, ममारच dead.
Reacting in anger the great Vanara chief struck the Rakshasa with a tree, by which the Rakshasa fell down dead.
निहतम् dead, राक्षसेन्द्रम् Rakshasa chief, तम् him, अकम्पनम् Akampana, भूमौ on the ground, दृष्टवा seeing, सर्वे all, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, क्षितिकम्पे shaken in earthquake, द्रुमाःइव like a tree, व्यथिताः distressed.
Seeing Akampana lying dead on the ground, the Rakshasas were shaken like the trees in the earthquake and were distressed.
ते they, भयात् in fear, पृष्ठतः covertly, मुहुर्मुहुः again and again, प्रेक्षमाणाः looking back, सम्मूढाः bewildered, अन्योन्यम् one another, प्रममन्थु: crushing, नगरम् city, विविशुः went.
Again, and again looking back in fear, covertly, bewildered, crushing one another, they went into the Lanka city.
तेषुलङ्कांप्रविष्टेषुराक्षसेषुमहाबलाः ।
समेत्यहरयस्सर्वेहनूमन्तमपूजयन् ।।6.56.35।।
तेषुराक्षसेषु those Rakshasas, लङ्काम् into Lanka, प्रविष्टेषु on entering, सर्वे all, महाबलाः endowed with prowess, हरयः Vanaras, समेत्य getting together, हनूमन्तम् Hanuman, अपूजयन् paid respects.
Those Rakshasas, endowed with prowess, on entering Lanka got together and paid respects to Hanuman.
सत्त्वसम्पन्नः richly endowed with goodness, सः he, हनुमानपि Hanuman also, अनुकूलतः others for their part, यथार्हम् accordingly, तान् them, सर्वान् all, हरीन् monkeys, सम्प्रत्यपूजयत् greatly honoured.
Hanuman also who was richly endowed with goodness greatly honoured all the Vanaras accordingly.
विनेदुश्चयथाप्राणंहरयोजितकाशिनः ।
चकर्षुश्चपुनस्तत्रसप्राणानपिराक्षसान् ।।6.56.37।।
जितकाशिनः atmosphere of triumph, हरयः monkeys, यथाप्राणम् their life, विनेदुः sportively, तत्र there, सप्राणानपि willing to give up their life, राक्षसान् Rakshasas, पुनः again, चकर्षुश्च shouted.
In an atmosphere of triumph, the monkeys sportively shouted again saying that they are willing to give up their life also.
महाकपिः great Vanara, सःमारुतिः that Maruti, चमूमुखे in front army, रक्षांसि saviour, समेत्य along with, निहत्य having killed, भीमम् fierce, अमित्रनाशनम् killer of foes, यथैव in the same way, बलिनम् , महासुरम् Lord of Devatas, विष्णुर्यथा like Vishnu, वीरशोभाम् like a triumphant hero, अभजत् shone.
Great Vanara, Maruti shone like a triumphant hero and saviour in front of the army, just as Lord Vishnu, the Lord of Devatas shone after killing the foes (demons).
तदा then, देवगणाः army of Devatas, स्वयम् themselves, रामः Rama, अतिबलः Atibala, लक्ष्मणःच and Lakshmana, तथैव in the same way, सुग्रीवमुखाः Sugriva the chief, प्लवङ्गमाः of monkeys, तथा so also, महाबलः of exceeding might, विभीषणश्चैव Vibheeshana also, कपिम् monkey, अपूजयन् praised.
Thereafter Rama with the army of Devatas, Atibala and Lakshmana, in the same way Sugriva, the army chief, so also, Vibheeshana of exceeding might praised Hanuman. ।। इत्यार्षेवाल्मीकीयेश्रीमद्रामायणेआदिकाव्येयुद्धकाण्डेषटपञ्चाशस्सर्गः ।। This is the end of the fifty sixth sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
