[Neela fights with Prahastha and kills him.]

ततःप्रहस्तंनिर्यान्तंदृष्टवाभीमपराक्रमम् ।

उवाचसस्मितंरामोविभीषणमरिन्दमः ।।6.58.1।।


ततः then, अरिन्दमः tamer of enemies, रामः Rama, निर्यान्तम् coming towards, भीमपराक्रमम् of terrific valour, प्रहस्तम् Prahastha, दृष्टवा seeing, विभीषणम् to Vibheeshana, सस्मितम् with gentle smile, उवाच said.

Then Rama seeing Prahastha, the tamer of enemies of terrific valour coming towards him, said to Vibheeshana, having a gentle smile.
कएषस्सुमहाकायोबलेनमहतावृतः ।

आचक्ष्वमेमहाबाहो वीर्यवन्तंनिशाचरम् ।।6.58.2।।


महाबाहो broad shouldered, सुमहाकायः gigantic body, बलेन with army, वृतः surrounded, एषः in that way, कः who, महाबाहो is that gigantic one, वीर्यवन्तम् valiant, निशाचरम् night ranger, मे to me, आचक्ष्व tell me.

"Oh, Broad shouldered Vibheeshana! Who is this Rakshasa of gigantic form coming surrounded by a great army He seems to be a valiant one. Tell me."
राघवस्यवचश्श्रुत्वाप्रत्युवाचविभीषणः ।।6.58.3।।

एषसेनापतिस्तस्यप्रहस्तोनामराक्षसः ।

लङ्कायांराक्षसेन्द्रस्यत्रिभागबलसम्वृतः ।।6.58.4।।

वीर्यवानस्त्रविच्छूरःसुप्रख्याश्चपराक्रमे ।


राघवस्य Raghava's, वचः words, श्रुत्वा hearing, विभीषणः Vibheeshana, प्रत्युवाच replied, एषः this way, लङ्कायाम् in Lanka, त्रिभागबलसम्वृतः a third of the army, वीर्यवान् courageous, अस्त्रवित् conversant with weapons, शूरः heroic, सुप्रख्याश्चपराक्रमः widely known for his prowess, तस्यराक्षसेन्द्रस्य that Rakshasa king's, सेनापतिः CommanderinChief of army, प्रहस्तोनाम called Prahastha, राक्षसः Rakshasa.

On hearing Raghava's words Vibheeshana replied." He is a Rakshasa, by name Prahastha, commander in chief of the army of Rakshasa king. He is widely known for his prowess, conversant with weapons and courageous. He is heroic and a third of the army of Ravana is under his command."
ततःप्रहस्तंनिर्यान्तंभीमंभीमपराक्रमम् ।।6.58.5।।

गर्जन्तंसुमहाकायंराक्षसैरभिसम्वृतम् ।

ददर्शमहतीसेनावानराणांबलीयसाम् ।।6.58.6।।

अभिसञ्जातरोषाणांप्रहस्तमभिगर्जताम् ।


ततः then, बलीयसाम् huge army, अभिसञ्जातरोषाणाम् of redoubtable prowess, प्रहस्तम् Prahastha, अभिगर्जताम् roaring, वानराणाम् Vanaras, महती powerful, सेना army, निर्यान्तम् coming towards, भीमम् fierce, भीमपराक्रमम् of terrific prowess, राक्षसैः Rakshasas, अभिसम्वृतम् surrounded, प्रहस्तम् Prahastha, ददर्श saw.

The huge army of powerful Vanaras saw Prahastha of terrific prowess, fierce, surrounded by Rakshasas coming towards them roaring.
खडगशक्त्यृष्णिबाणाश्चशूलानिमुसलानिच ।।6.58.7।।

गदाश्चपरिघाःप्रासाविविधाश्चपरिश्वधाः ।

नूंषिचविचित्राणिराक्षसानांजयैषिणाम् ।।6.58.8।।

प्रगृहीतान्यशोभन्तवानरानभिधावताम् ।


जयैषिणाम् seeking victory, वानरान् Vanaras, अभिधावताम् rushing towards, राक्षसानाम् Rakshasas, प्रगृहीतानि seizing, खडगशक्त्यृष्टिबाणाश्च swords, javelins, double edged swords, arrows, शूलानि pikes, मुसलानिच mallets, गदाश्च maces, परिघाः iron bars, प्रासाः spears, विविधाः of different kind, परिश्वधाः bows, प्रगृहीतानि taking hold, आशोभन्त shone brightly.

The Rakshasas rushing towards Vanaras seeking victory, seizing swords, javelins, double edged swords, pikes, mallets, maces, iron bars, spears and bows of different kinds shone brightly.
जगृहुःपादपांश्चापिपुष्पितान्वानरर्षभाः ।।6.58.9।।

शिलाश्चविपुलादीर्घायोद्धुकामाःप्लवङ्गमाः ।


योद्धुकामाः burning to fight, प्लवङ्गमाः monkeys, पुष्पितान् in bloom, पादपांश्चापि trees, वानरर्षभाः monkeys for their part, विपुलाः huge, दीर्घाः long, शिलाःच rocks also, जगृहुः went.

The Vanaras burning with desire to fight, for their part went with huge trees in bloom, huge and long rocks.
तेषामन्योन्यमासाद्यसङ्ग्रामःसुमहानभूत् ।।6.58.10।।

बहूनामश्मवृष्टिंचशरवर्षंचवर्षताम् ।


अन्योन्यम् one another, आसाद्य approaching, आश्मवृष्टिम् rain of rocks, शरवर्षंच and rain of arrows, वर्षताम् showered, बहूनाम् many, तेषाम् by that, सुमहान् many, सङ्ग्रामः in war, अभूत् happened.

Each of them approached one another with showers of rocks and many arrows and by that a great war happened.
बहवोराक्षसायुद्धेबहून्वानरयूधपान् ।।6.58.11।।

वानराराक्षसांश्चापिनिजघ्नुर्बहवोबहून् ।


युद्धे in war, बहवः many, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, बहून् many, वानरयूधपान् Vanara leaders, बहवः many, वानराः Vanaras, बहून् many, राक्षसांश्चापि Rakshasas also, निजघ्नुः killed.

In the course of war many Rakshasas killed many Vanara leaders and many Vanaras killed many Rakshasas also.
शूलैःप्रमथिताःकेचित्केचिच्चपरमायुधैः ।।6.58.12।।

परिघैराहताःकेचित्केचिच्छिन्नाःपरश्वधैः ।


केचित् indeed, शूलैः with pikes, प्रमथिताः killed, केचिच्च some, परमायुधैः javelins, केचित् some, परिघैः with iron bars, आहताः destroyed, केचित् few, परश्वधैः with axes, छिन्नाः hacked.

Indeed, some were killed by Rakshasas with pikes, some by javelins, a few with iron bars, and a few were hacked with axes.
निरुच्छवासाःकृता: केचित्पतिताधरणीतले ।।6.58.13।।

विभिन्नहृदयाःकेचिदिषुसन्धानसन्दिताः ।


केचित् few, कृता: cut, निरुच्छवासाः deprived of life, धरणीतले on the ground, पतिताः fell, केचित् some, इषुसंधानसन्दिताः struck by arrows, विभिन्नहृदयाः hearts broken to pieces.

Few got cut and deprived of life and fell on the ground. Some struck by arrows had their hearts broken into pieces.
केचिव्दिधाकृताःखडगैःस्फुरन्तःपतिताभुवि ।।6.58.14।।

वानराराक्षसैश्शूलैपार्श्वतश्चावदारिताः ।


केचित् few, वानराः Vanaras, शूलैः pikes, राक्षसैः Rakshasa, खडगैः swords, द्विधा two, कृताः cut into, पार्श्वतः sides of the body, अदारिताः cleft, स्फुरन्तः ceased of life, भुवि ground, पतिताः fell.

Few Vanaras cut into two by Rakshasas fell down and few Vanaras fell on the ground sides of the body cleft ceased life.
वानरैश्चापिसङ्क्रुद्धैराक्षसौघाःसमन्ततः ।।6.58.15।।

पादपैर्गिरिशृङ्गैश्चसम्पिष्टावसुधातले ।


राक्षसौघाः Rakshasas in groups, सङ्क्रुद्धैः highly enraged, वानरैः by Vanaras, समन्ततः completely, पादपैः trees, गिरिशृङ्गैश्च and mountain peaks, वसुधातले on the earth's surface, सम्पिष्टाः crushed.

Then the highly enraged Vanaras completely crushed Rakshasas in groups by crushing them on the earth's surface with trees and mountain peaks.
वज्रस्पर्शतलैर्हस्स्सैर्मुष्टिभिश्चहताभृशम् ।।6.58.16।।

वेमुश्शोणितमास्येभ्योविशीर्णदशनेक्षणाः ।


वज्रस्पर्शतलैः whose hands had thunderbolt impact, हस्स्सैः hit, मुष्टिभिः with fists, हताः killed, विशीर्णदशनेक्षणाः teeth, eyes having been smashed, आस्येभ्यः vomited, भृशम् excessively, शोणितम् blood, वेमुः from mouth.

Hit by fists and hands that had the impact of thunderbolt, teeth and eyes smashed and fallen out, the Rakshasas vomited blood from their mouth excessively.
आर्तस्वनंचस्वनतांसिंहनादंचनर्दताम् ।।6.58.17।।

बभूवतुमुलश्शब्दोहरीणांरक्षसांयुधि ।


आर्तस्वनम् cries of pain, स्वनताम् tumultuous clamour, सिंहनादम् like roar of lions, नर्दताम् roar, हरीणाम् monkeys, रक्षसां Rakshasas, तुमुलः tumultuous, शब्दः noise, युधि in war, बभूव arose.

Tumultuous noise like the roar of lions arose in the battlefield with Vanaras and Rakshasas cries of pain.
वानराराक्षसाःक्रुद्धावीरमार्गमनुव्रताः ।।6.58.18।।

विवृत्तनयनाःक्रूराश्चक्रुःकर्माण्यभीतवत् ।


क्रुद्धाः angry, वीरमार्गम् path of heroes, अनुव्रताः following, क्रूराः cruel, विवृत्तनयनाः reeling of eyes, वानराः Vanaras, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, अभीतवत् without fear, कर्माणि deeds, चक्रुः carried out.

Following the path of heroes and infuriated, their eyes reeling, the vanaras and rakshasas carried out their deeds without fear.
नरान्तकःकुम्भहनुर्महानादस्समुन्नतः ।।6.58.19।।

एतेप्रहस्तसचिवास्सर्वेजघ्नुर्वनौकसः ।


नरान्तकः Naranthaka, कुम्भहनुः Kumbhahanu, महानादः Mahanada, समुन्नतः Samunnata, प्रहस्तसचिवाः Prahastha's associates, एतेसर्वे all these, वनौकसः monkeys, जघ्नुः made short work.

Naranthaka, Kumbhahanu, Mahanada, Samunnata, all these associates of Prahastha made short work of the monkeys.
तेषामापततांशीघ्रंनिघ्नतांचापिवानरान् ।।6.58.20।।

द्विविदोगिरिशृङ्गेणजघानैकंनरान्तकम् ।


शीघ्रम् at great speed, आपतताम् rushing, वानरान् Vanaras, निघ्नतांचापि also killing, तेषाम् in that way, एकम् one, नरान्तकम् Naranthaka, द्विविदः Dwivida, गिरिशृङ्गेण with peak of a mountain, जघान struck.

Rushing at great speed, the Rakshasas and also killing the Vanaras in that way, Dwivida alone struck down Naranthaka with a mountain peak.
दुर्मुखःपुनरुत्थायकपिस्सविपुलद्रुमम् ।।6.58.21।।

राक्षसंक्षिप्रहस्तस्तुसमुन्नतमपोथयत् ।


कपिः monkey, दुर्मुखःपुनः Dhurmukha, सविपुलद्रुमम् uprooting a huge tree, उत्थाय taking hold of, क्षिप्रहस्तम् in his hand, राक्षसम् Rakshasa, समुन्नतम् Samunnata, अपोथयत् killed.

Dhurmukha monkey uprooting a huge tree holding it in hand killed the Rakshasa Samunnata.
जाम्बवांस्तुसुसङ्क्रुद्धःप्रगृह्यमहतींशिलाम् ।।6.58.22।।

पातयामासतेजस्वीमहानादस्यवक्षसि ।


तेजस्वी energetic, जाम्बवांस्तु Jambavantha too, सुसङ्क्रुद्धः enraged, महतीम् huge, शिलाम् rock, प्रगृह्य seizing, महानादस्य Mahanada's, वक्षसि on the chest, पातयामास fell down.

Energetic Jambavantha, enraged, took a huge rock, and hurled at the chest of Mahanada who fell down.
अथकुम्भहनुस्तत्रतारेणासाद्यवीर्यवान् ।।6.58.23।।

वृक्षेणाभिहतोमूर्ध्निप्राणान्सन्त्याजयद्रणे ।


अथ and then, तत्र there, वीर्यवान् valiant one, कुम्भहनुः Kumbhahanu, तारेण by Tara, रणे in war, आसाद्य closed with, अभिहतः attacked, वृक्षेण by tree, मूर्ध्नि on the head, प्राणान् life, सन्त्याजयत् ceased.

And thereafter, valiant Tara closed with Kumbhahanu and attacked him with a tree on the head and he lost his life.
अमृष्यमाणस्तत्कर्मप्रहस्तोरथमाश्रितः ।।6.58.24।।

चकारकदनंघोरंधनुष्पाणिर्वनौकसाम् ।


प्रहस्तः Prahastha, तत् then कर्म exploit, अमृष्यमाणः intolerant, रथम् chariot, आश्रितः got on to, धनुष्पाणिः bow in hand, वनौकसाम् monkeys, घोरम् dreadful, कदनम् havoc, चकार caused.

Then intolerant of the exploit, Prahastha got on to the chariot with bow in hand and caused dreadful havoc among the monkeys.
आवर्तइवसञ्जज्ञेसेनयोरुभयोस्तदा ।।6.58.25।।

क्षुभितस्याप्रमेयस्यसागरस्येवनिस्स्वनः ।


तदा then, आवर्ते revolving, क्षुभितस्य agitated, अप्रमेयस्य boundless, सागरस्यइव like an ocean, उभयोः both, सेनयोः armies, निःस्वनः sound, सञ्जज्ञे was frightening.

Then the sound of both armies was like an agitated, boundless ocean, whirling round and frightening.
महताहिशरौघेणप्रहस्तोयुद्धकोविदः ।।6.58.26।।

अर्दयामाससङ्क्रुद्धोवानरान् परमाहवे ।


परमाहवे major conflict, युद्धकोविदः expert in war, प्रहस्तः Prahastha, सङ्क्रुद्धः highly furious, महता, शरौघेण stream of arrows, वानरान् at Vanaras, अर्धयामास tormented

In that major conflict, highly furious Prahastha, an expert in war tormented the Vanaras with a stream of arrows.
वानराणांशरीरैश्चराक्षसानांचमेदिनी ।।6.58.27।।

बभून्विचिताघोराःपतितैरिवपर्वतै ।


वानराणाम् of Vanaras, राक्षसानांच and Rakshasas, घोरैः dreadful, शरीरैः bodies, अतिचिता strewn, मेदिनी the earth, पर्वतैः mountains, पतितैःइव like fallen, बभूव seemed.

The bodies of Vanaras and Rakshasas strewn on the ground, seemed like mountains had fallen.
सामहीरुधिरौघेणप्रच्छन्नासम्प्रकाशते ।।6.58.28।।

सञ्छन्नामाधवेमासिपलाशैरिवपुष्पितैः ।


रुधिरौघेण drenched with blood, प्रच्छन्नाः shone, सामही filled, माधवेमासि in the month of magha, पुष्पितैः blossoms, पलाशैः of Palasa, सञ्चन्नाइव like veiled, सम्प्रकाशते was bright.

That battlefield drenched with blood shone bright as though veiled with blossoms of Palasa in the month of Magha.
हतवीरौघवस्रांतुभग्नायुधमहाद्रुमाम् ।।6.58.29।।

शोणितौघमहातोयांयमसागरगामिनीम् ।

यकृत् प्लीहमहापङ्कान्वििकीर्णान्त्रशैवलाम् ।।6.58.30।।

भिन्नकायशिरोमीनामङ्गावयवशाद्वलाम् ।

गृध्रहंसगणाकीर्णांकङ्कसारससेविताम् ।।6.58.31।।

मेदःफेनसमाकीर्णामार्तस्न्तितस्वनाम् ।

तांकापुरषुदुस्तारांयुद्धभूमिमयींनदीम् ।।6.58.32।।

नदीमिवघनापायेहंससारससेविताम् ।

राक्षसाःकपिमुख्याश्चतेरुस्तांदुस्तरांनदीम् ।।6.58.33।।

यथापद्मरजोध्वस्तांनळिनींगजयूथपाः ।


हतवीरघवस्राम् heaps of slain leaders as banks, भग्नायुधमहाद्रुमाम् broken weapons for large trees, शोणितौघमहातोयाम् torrents of blood as vast stretch of water, यमसागरगामिनीम् rushing towards, यकृत् प्लीहमहापङ्काम् livers and spleens its mire, न्विकीर्णान्द्रशैवलाम् scattered entrails for its duckweeds, भिन्नकायशिरोमीनाम् severed trunks and heads for its fish, अङ्गावयवशाद्वलाम् parts of limbs as grass, गृध्रहंसगणाकीर्णाम् crowded with swans in the form of vultures, कङ्कसारससेविताम् frequented with cranes in the shape of buzzards, मेदःफेनसमाकीर्णम् overspread with f at in the form of foam, आस्न्तिन्तिस्वनाम् groans of the wounded for its murmur, कापुरुषदुस्ताराम् difficult to cross for the cowards, घनापाये at the end of monsoon, हंससारससेविताम् frequented by swans and cranes, नदीमिव like river, ताम् them, युद्धभूमिमयीम् battlefield, नदीम् river, तेराक्षसाः those Rakshasas, पद्मरजोध्वस्ताम् lotus pond covered with lotuses, नळिनीम् lotuses, गजयूथपाःयथा like leaders of herds of elephants, तेरुः would cross, दुस्तराम् difficult, तांनदीम् that river, कपिमुख्याः Vanara leaders, तेरुः crossed.

Heaps of slain leaders as banks, broken weapons like large trees, torrents of blood as vast stretch of water, liver and spleens as its mire, scattered entrails as duckweeds, severed trunks and heads as fish, fingers and parts of limbs as grass, crowded with swans in the form of vultures, frequented with cranes in the shape of buzzards, overspread with f at in the form of foam, groans of the wounded for its murmur, difficult to cross for cowards, frequented by swans and cranes, that battlefield of river flowed. The Rakshasas and Vanaras swam across the river even though it were difficult to cross as leaders of elephant herds would cross a lotus pond covered with pollen of lotuses.
ततःसृजन्तंबाणौघान्प्रहस्तंस्यन्दनेस्थितम् ।।6.58.34।।

ददर्शतरसानीलोनिघ्नन्तंप्लवङ्गमान् ।


ततः Further, नीलः Nila, बाणौघान् volley of arrows, सृजन्तम् discharging, स्यन्दने trembling, स्थितम् seated, तरसा with vehemence, प्लवङ्गमान् monkeys, निघ्नन्तम् exterminating, प्रहस्तम् Prahastha, ददर्श saw.

Further Nila saw Prahastha seated and trembling and discharging a volley of arrows with vehemence exterminating monkeys.
उद्धूतइववायुःखेमहदभ्रबलंबलात् ।।6.58.35।।

समीक्ष्याभिद्रुतंयुद्धेप्रहस्तोवाहिनीपतिः ।

रथेनादित्यवर्णेननीलमेवाभिदुद्रुवे ।।6.58.36।।


खे sky, बलात् violent, उद्धूतः blowing, वायुः wind, महत् great, अभ्रबलम् mass of clouds, युद्धे in war, अभिद्रुतम् swiftly coming, समीक्ष्य observing, आदित्यवर्णेन bright as the colour of the sun, रथेन on chariot, वाहिनीपतिः commander of army, प्रहस्तः Prahastha, नीलमेव towards Nila, अभिदुद्रुवे darted.

Prahastha, the commander of the army darted, just as the violent wind blows away mass of clouds, observing Nila coming towards him, in his chariot which was bright as the sun.
सधनुर्धन्विनांश्रेष्ठोविकृष्यपरमाहवे ।।6.58.37।।

नीलायव्यसृजद्बाणान्प्रहस्तोवाहिनीपतिः ।


धन्विनाम् stretching his bow, श्रेष्ठः supreme, वाहिनीपतिः CommanderinChief, सःप्रहस्तः that Prahastha, परमाहवे best of, धनुः bow, विकृष्य drawing, नीलाय at Neela, बाणान् arrows, व्यसृजत् discharged.

Prahastha, the CommanderinChief of the army, supreme among wielders of bow, stretched his best bow and drew it and began to discharge arrows at Neela.
तेप्राप्यविशिखानीलंविनिर्भिद्यसमाहिताः ।।6.58.38।।

महींजग्मुर्महावेगारुषिताइवपन्नगाः ।


समाहिताः adjusted, रुषिताः infuriated, पन्नगाःइव like serpents, महावेगाः at great speed, तेविशिखाः it penetrated into, नीलम् Nila's, प्रेत्य having departed, विनिर्भिद्य straight, महीं earth, जग्मुः pierced.

The arrows discharged by Prahastha, penetrated piercing into Nila's body at great speed like infuriated serpents and went straight into the earth.
नीलःशरैरभिहतोनिशितैर्ज्वलनोपमैः ।।6.58.39।।

सतंपरमदुर्धर्षमापतन्तंमहाकपिः ।

प्रहस्तंताडयामासवृक्षमुत्पाट्यवीर्यवान् ।।6.58.40।।


महाकपिः great Vanara, वीर्यवान् valiant one, सः he, नीलः Nila, निशितैः sharp, ज्वलनोपमैः glowing like tongues of fire, शरैः arrows, अभिहतः having been hit, वृक्षम् tree, उत्पाट्य uprooting, परमदुर्धर्षम् most difficult to encounter, आपतन्तम् rushing towards, तंप्रहस्तम् that Prahastha, ताडयामास struck.

Great Vanara, a valiant one, Nila having been hit with arrows sharp as tongues of fire, struck Prahastha, who is most difficult to encounter and rushing towards him by uprooting a tree.
सतेनाभिहतःक्रुद्धोनदन्राक्षसपुङ्गवः ।

ववर्षशरवर्षाणिप्लवङ्गानांचमूपतौ ।।6.58.41।।


तेन by that, अभिहतः having been struck, सःराक्षसपुङ्गवः that Rakshasa leader, क्रुद्धः became furious, नदन् roaring, प्लवङ्गानाम् monkeys, चमूपतौ bull among Rakshasas, शरवर्षाणि rain of arrows, ववर्ष showered.

Having been struck by Nila, the Rakshasa leader became furious, and began to roar and showered rain arrows on the monkeys.
तस्यबाणगणान्घारान्राक्षसस्यमहाबलः ।

अपारयन्वारयितुंप्रत्यगृह्णान्निमीलितः ।।6.58.42।।


महाबलः mighty, तस्य his, राक्षसस्य Rakshasa's, बाणगणान् volley of arrows, वारयितुम् to check, अपारयन् not able to, निमीलितः with closed eyes, प्रत्यगृह्णात् received them.

Not able to check the volley of arrows released by the Rakshasa, Nila received them with closed eyes.
यथैवगोवृषोवर्षंशारदंशीघ्रमागतम् ।

एवमेवप्रहस्तस्यशरवर्षंदुरासदम् ।।6.58.43।।

निमीलिताक्षस्सहसानीलस्सेहेदुरासदान् ।


शीघ्रम् quickly, आगतम् downpour, शारदम् autumnal, वर्षम् rain, गोवृषः mighty bull, यथैव in the same way, एवमेव precisely, नीलः Nila, प्रहस्तस्य Prahastha's, दुरासदम् difficult to face, सहसा fierce, शरवर्षम् rain of arrows, निमीलिताक्षः with eyes closed, सेहे tolerated.

Just as a mighty bull faces sudden downpour of autumnal rain, in the same way Nila precisely tolerated the rain of arrows of Prahastha, which are difficult to face, with eyes closed.
रोषितश्शरवर्षेणसालेनमहतामहान् ।

प्रजघानहयाननीलःप्रहस्तस्यमहाबलः ।।6.58.44।।


महाबलः of great prowess, महान् great, नीलः Neela, शरवर्षेण by the rain of arrows, रोषितः angry, महता huge, सालेन Sala tree, प्रहस्तस्य at Prahastha, हयान् horses, प्रजघान hurled.

Neela endowed with great prowess, became angry (by the rain of arrows showered on him) and hurled a huge Sala tree at Prahastha.
ततन्सचापमुद्गृह्यप्रहस्तस्यमहाबलः ।

बभञ्जतरसानीलोननादचपुनःपुनः ।।6.58.45।।


ततः thereupon, सः he, चापम् bow, उद्गृह्य firmly holding, महाबलः mighty, प्रहस्तस्य Prahastha's, बभञ्ज broke, पुनः again, पुनः and again, ननादच roared

Thereupon, Neela firmly holding the bow of mighty Prahastha broke it again and again and roared
विधनुस्तुकृतस्तेनप्रहस्तोवाहिनीपतिः ।

प्रगृह्यमुसलंघोरंस्यन्दनादवपुप्लुवे ।।6.58.46।।


तेन by then, विधनुः deprived of bow, कृतः and chariot, वाहिनीपतिः CommanderinChief, सःप्रहस्तः that Prahastha, घोरम् terrific, मुसलम् mallet, प्रगृह्य seizing, स्यन्दनात् from the chariot, अवपुप्लुवे jumped down.

Deprived of bow and chariot, Prahastha, the CommanderinChief seizing a terrific mallet jumped down from the chariot.
तावुभौवाहिनीमुख्यौजातवैरौतरस्विनौ ।

स्थितौक्षतजगदिग्धाङ्गौप्रभिन्नाविवकुञ्जरौ ।।6.58.47।।


जातवैरौ deadly enemies, तरस्विनौ strong, तौ they, उभौ both, वाहिनीमुख्यौ CommanderinChief of army, क्षतजगदिग्दाङ्गौ their limbs wetted with blood, प्रभिन्नौ disfigured, कुञ्जरौइव like elephants, स्थितौ stood.

Both Nila and Prahastha, deadly enemies, CommanderinChief of the armies, their limbs disfigured, wetted with blood, stood like elephants.
उल्लिखन्तौसुतीक्ष्णाभिर्दंष्ट्राभिरितरेतरम् ।

सिंहशार्दूलसदृशौसिंहशार्दूलचेष्टितौ ।।6.58.48।।

विक्रान्तविजयौवीरौसमरेष्न्विवर्तिनौ ।

काङ्क्षमाणौयशःप्राप्तुंवृत्रवासवयोस्सह ।।6.58.49।।


सुतीक्ष्णाभिः exceedingly sharp, दंष्ट्राभिः teeth, इतरेतरम् each other, उल्लिखन्तौ tearing up, सिंहशार्दूलसदृशौ like lion and tiger, सिंहशार्दूलचेष्टितौ behaving like lion and tiger, विक्रान्तविजयौ who won many wars, समरेषु in wars, अनिवर्तिनौ never turned back, वीरौ heroes, वृत्रवासवयोः demon Vrta and Indra, यशः fame, सह to conquer, प्राप्तुम् to attain, काङ्क्षमाणाविव desiring to win.

Tearing up each other with exceedingly sharp teeth they were behaving like a lion and tiger. They had won many wars and never turned back in war. They were heroes like Vrta and Indra desiring to conquer and attain fame.
आजघानतदानीलंललाटेमुसलेनसः ।

प्रहस्तःपरमायत्तस्ततस्सुस्रावशोणितम् ।।6.58.50।।


तदा then, सःप्रहस्तः Prahastha, परमायत्तः speedily, मुसलेन with mallet, नीलम् Neela, ललाटे forehead, आजघान struck, ततः then, शोणितम् blood, सुस्राव flowed.

Then Prahastha struck speedily with a mallet and hit Neela on the forehead and blood flowed from there.
ततःशोणितदिग्धाङ्गःप्रगृह्यसुमहातरुम् ।

प्रहस्तस्योरसिक्रुद्धोविससर्जमहाकपिः ।।6.58.51।।


ततः then, महाकपिः great Vanara, शोणितदिग्धाङ्गः drenched with blood, क्रुद्धः enraged, सुमहातरुम् huge tree, प्रगृह्यच taking hold, प्रहस्तस्य Prahastha's, उरसि chest, विससर्ज hurled.

Then drenched with blood, Neela was enraged and took hold of a huge tree and hurled at the chest of Prahastha.
तमचिन्त्यप्रहारंसप्रगृह्यमुसलंमहत् ।

अभिदुद्रावबलिनंबलाननीलंप्लवङ्गमम् ।।6.58.52।।


सः he, तम् that, प्रहारम् wound, अचिन्त्य not caring, महत् huge, मुसलम् mallet, प्रगृह्य taking hold, बलिनम् strong, प्लवङ्गमम् monkey, नीलम् Neela, बलात् courageous, अभिदुद्राव went towards.

He (Prahastha), not caring for the wound, taking a huge mallet went towards that courageous monkey (Neela).
तमुग्रवेगंसंरब्धमापतन्तंमहाकपिः ।

ततस्सम्प्रेक्ष्यजग्राहमहावेगोमहाशिलाम् ।।6.58.53।।


ततः then, महाकपिः great monkey, उग्रवेगम् endowed with high speed, संरब्दम् waging, आपतन्तम् coming towards, तम् him, सम्प्रेक्ष्य seeing, महावेगः endowed with speed, महाशिलाम् huge rock, जग्राह hurled.

Then, seeing Prahastha waging and coming towards him, the great monkey, Neela, endowed with high speed threw a huge rock.
तस्ययुद्धाभिकामस्यमृथेमुसलयोधिन ।

प्रहस्तस्यशिलांनीलोमूर्ध्नितूर्णमपातयत् ।।6.58.54।।


नीलः Neela, शिलाम् rock, युद्धाभिकामस्य desiring to fight, मृथे forehead, मुसलयोधिनः mallet, तस्यप्रहस्तस्य that Prahastha's, मूर्ध्नि forehead, तूर्णम् quickly, अपातयत् dropped.

Fighting with the mallet, Neela quickly dropped the rock on that Prahastha's forehead
सातेनकपिमुख्येनविमुक्तामहतीशिला ।

बिभेदबहुधाघोराप्रहस्तस्यशिरस्तदा ।।6.58.55।।


सातेन by that, तेनकपिमुख्येन by the foremost of Vanaras, विमुक्ता hurled, महती huge, घोरा dreadful, शिला rock, प्रहस्तस्य Prahastha's, शिरः head, बहुधा many pieces, बिभेद broken.

Hurled by Neela, the foremost of monkeys, the huge rock broke the head of Prahastha into pieces.
सगतासुर्गतश्रीकोगतसत्त्वोगतेन्द्रियः ।

पपातसहसाभूमौछिन्नमूलइवद्रुमः ।।6.58.56।।


गतासुः life gone, गतश्रीकः splendour gone, गतसत्त्वः strength gone, गतेन्द्रियः senses gone, सः he, छिन्नमूलः tree at the bottom, द्रुमःइव like tree, सहसा instantly, भूमौ on ground, पपात fell.

Life, splendour, strength, and senses departed Prahastha fell instantly on the ground like a tree cut at the bottom.
विभिन्नशिरसस्तस्यबहुसुस्रावशोणितम् ।

शरीरादपिसुस्रावगिरेःप्रस्रवणंयथा ।।6.58.57।।


तस्य his, विभिन्नशिरसः shattered head, बहु much, शोणितम् blood, सुस्राव flowed, शरीरादपि all over the body, गिरेः mountain, प्रस्रवणंयथा like a spring from, सुस्राव flowed.

From his shattered head much blood flowed from all over the body just as a spring from a mountain.
हतेप्रहस्तेनीलेनतदकम्प्यंमहाबलम् ।

राक्षसानामहृष्टानांलङ्कामभिजगामह ।।6.58.58।।


नीलेन by Neela, प्रहस्ते Prahastha, हते having been killed, अहृष्टानाम् cheerless, राक्षसानाम् of Rakshasas, अकम्प्यम् unshakeable, तत् बलम् that troops, लङ्काम् from Lanka, अभिजगामह could not stay there.

Prahastha having been killed by Neela, the cheerless Rakshasas and unshakeable troops could not stay there any more.
नशेकुस्समवस्थातुंनिहतेवाहिनीपतौ ।

सेतुबन्धंसमासाद्यविशीर्णंसलिलंयथा ।।6.58.59।।


वाहिनीपतौ CommanderinChief, निहते killed, विशीर्णम् breached, सेतुबन्दम् dam, समासाद्य reaching, सलिलंयथा like the water, समवस्थातुम् stationary, नशेकुः not remain.

The CommanderinChief having been killed the troops could not remain there just as water reached a breached dam.
हतेतस्मिंश्चमूमुख्येराक्षसास्तेनिरुद्यमाः ।

रक्षःपतिगृहंगत्वाध्यानमूकत्वमास्थिताः ।।6.58.60।।

प्राप्ताश्शोकार्णवंतीव्रंनिस्सज्ञौइवतेऽभवन् ।


चमूमुख्ये CommanderinChief, तस्मिन् his, हते killed, तेराक्षसाः those Rakshasas, निरुद्यमाः reduced to, रक्षःपतिगृहम् abode of the Lord, गत्वा went, ध्यनमूकत्वम् speechless, आगताः became, ते they, विसंज्ञाःइव without consciousness, अभवन् remained.

CommanderinChief killed, those Rakshasas reduced to speechlessness went to the abode of their Lord and remained without consciousness.
ततस्तुनीलोविजयीमहाबलःप्रशस्यमानःसुकृतेनकर्मणा ।

समेत्यरामेणसलक्ष्मणेनप्रहृष्टरूपस्तुबभूवयूथपः ।।6.58.61।।


समेत्य meeting, रामेण with Rama, सलक्ष्मणेन and also Lakshmana, प्रशस्यमानः praised, विजयी for the victory, नीलो of Neela, ततस्तु for his deed, महाबलः endowed with great strength, प्रहृष्टरूपस्तु rejoiced, यूथपः troops, बभूव remained.

Then Neela who was endowed with great strength met Rama and Lakshmana and was praised for his victory and the troops remained very rejoiced.
