Sloka & Translation

[Kumbhakarna points out the misdeeds of Ravana, which has resulted in such a situation and assures Ravana to fight with Rama.]

तस्यराक्षसराजस्यनिशम्यपरिदेवितम् ।

कुम्भकर्णोबभाषेदंवचनंप्रजहास च ।।6.63.1।।


तस्य his, राक्षसराजस्य Rakshasa king's, परिदेवितम् lamentation, निशम्य hearing, कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, इदंवचनम् these words, बभाषे replied, प्रजहास च laughing.

Hearing the lament of the Rakshasa king, Kumbhakarna replied laughing.
दृष्टोदोषोहियोऽस्माभिःपुरामन्त्रन्वििर्णये ।

हितेष्वनभियुक्तेनसोऽयमासादितस्त्वया ।।6.63.2।।


पुरा earlier, मन्त्रन्वििर्णये while we were discussing and taking decision, अस्माभिः you, यः that, दोषः disaster, दृष्टः foreseen, सःअयम् that I, हितेषु wellwishers, अनभियुक्तेन not trusted, त्वया by you, आसादितः reaped.

"While we were discussing earlier and taking decisions, that disaster foreseen by me has reaped for having not trusted the well wishers."
शीघ्रंखल्वभ्युपेतंत्वांफलंपापस्यकर्मणः ।

निरयेष्वेवपतनंयथादुष्कृतकर्मणः ।।6.63.3।।


दुष्कृतकर्मणः those who do sinful deeds, निरयेषु unobstructed, पतनमेव fall down, यथा so also, पापस्य by the sinful, कर्मणः action, फलम् fruit, त्वाम् you, शीघ्रम् quickly, उपेतंखलु come upon you.

"Those who do sinful deeds fall unobstructed so also the fruit of your sinful action has come upon you."
प्रथमंवैमहाराजकृत्यमेतदचिन्तितम् ।

केवलंवीर्यदर्पेणनानुबन्धोविचिन्तितः ।।6.63.4।।


महाराज king, एतत् all this, कृत्यम् action, प्रथमम् first, अचिन्तितम् not thought of, केवलम् only, वीर्यदर्पेण pride of your prowess, अनुबन्धः consequence, नविचिन्तितः not weighed.

"O king! All this action was not thought of at the beginning, nor the consequences of action weighed in the pride of your prowess."
यःपश्चातूर्वकार्याणिकुर्यादैश्वर्यमास्थितः ।

पूर्वंचोत्तरकार्याणि न स वेदनयानया ।।6.63.5।।


यः he who, ऐश्वर्यम् prosperity, आस्थितः confident, पूर्वकार्याणि earlier duties, पश्चात् defers, कुर्यात् action, उत्तरकार्याणि later action, पूर्वं च earlier, सः he, नयानया right or wrong, न वेद does not know.

"Confident of prosperity, he who defers action earlier, he does not know what is right and wrong later on."
देशकालविहीनानिकर्माणिविपरीतवत् ।

क्रियमाणानिदुष्यन्तिहवींष्यप्रयतेष्विव ।।6.63.6।।


देशकालविहीनानि without regard for time and place, विपरीतवत् disastrous, क्रियमाणानि the actions performed, कर्माणि actions, अप्रयतेषु not sanctified, हवींषीव like the oblations, प्रयतेष्यिव offered to fire, दुष्यन्ति wasted.

" Actions performed without regard for time and place will be disastrous like the oblations offered into fire without consecration, gets wasted."
त्रयाणांपञ्चधायोगंकर्मणांयःप्रपश्यति ।

सचिवैस्समयंकृत्वा स सभ्येवर्ततेपथि ।।6.63.7।।


यः he who, सचिवैः ministers, समयम् timely, कृत्वा does, त्रयाणाम् threefold, कर्मणाम् actions, पञ्चधा five aspects, योगम् unites, प्रपश्यति considering, सः he, पधिइव like the path, वर्तते performs.

He who thinks with ministers and considers the five aspects of threefold duties and moves in the right path performs (Five aspects of action are the method of initiating action, material to be worked upon, time and place of action, provision against mischance and the chances of success). Threefold duties with reference to enemies are Sama, Daana, and Bedha."
यथागमं च योराजासमयंविचिकीर्षति ।

बुध्यतेसचिवान्बध्यासुहृदश्चानुपश्यति ।।6.63.8।।


यः he who, राजा king, यथागमं च controlling, समयं proper time, विचिकीर्षति in accordance with justice, बुध्या intelligently, सचिवान् ministers, बुध्यते thinking, सुहृदश्च with friends, अनुपश्यति understands rightly.

"The king who does his duty in time in accordance with justice and thinking intelligently with his ministers, understands rightly."
धर्ममर्थं च कामं च सर्वान्वारक्षसांपते ।

भजतेपुरुषःकालेत्रीणिद्वन्द्वानिवापुनः ।।6.63.9।।


रक्षसांपते Rakshasa king, पुरुषः man, धर्मम् duty, अर्थं च worldly gain, कामं च sensual pleasures, सर्वान्वा or all, त्रीणि three, द्वन्द्वानिवा at least two, काले in time, भजते should pursue.

"O Rakshasa king! A man should pursue his duty or worldly gain or sensual pleasures all the three combined or at least any two in time (the scriptures lay down that duty should be pursued in the morning, wealth in the afternoon and sensual pleasures at night)."
त्रिषुचैतेषुयच्छ्रेष्ठंश्रुत्वातन्नावबुध्यते ।

राजावाराजमात्रोवाव्यर्थंतस्यबहुश्रुतम् ।।6.63.10।।


राजावा king or, राजमात्रोवा equal to king, एतेषु of these, त्रिषु three, यत् that, श्रेष्ठम् best, श्रुत्वा hearing, तत् that, नावबुध्यते not recognize it, तस्य his, बहु many, श्रुतम् heard, व्यर्थम् is in vain.

" A sovereign king or a king hearing these three does not recognize the best of the three is in vain even though he heard many."
उपप्रदानंसान्त्वं च भेदंकाले च विक्रमम् ।

योगं च रक्षसांश्रेष्ठतावुभौ च नयानयौ ।।6.63.11।।

कालेधर्मार्थकामान्यस्सम्मन्त्ऱ्यसचिवैःसह ।

निषेवेतात्मवान्लोके न स व्यसनमाप्नुयात् ।।6.63.12।।


रक्षसाम् Rakshasas, श्रेष्ठ foremost, यः you are, उपप्रदानम् gifting, सान्त्वं च conciliation, भेदं च dissension, उभौ both, तौ together, नयानयौ at the appropriate time, काले right time, धर्मार्थकामान् virtue, wealth and sensual pleasures, सचिवैःसह with ministers, सम्मन्त्ऱ्य discussing, निषेवेत resorts to, आत्मवान् self, सः he, व्यसनम् sorrow, नाप्नुयात् not meet.

"You are the foremost of the Rakshasas! After discussing with ministers, a king either by gifting or conciliation or dissension or resorting to all of them at the appropriate time takes resort to pursue virtue, wealth, or sensual pleasures at the right time, never meets with sorrow."
हितानुबन्धमालोच्यकार्यात्कार्यमिहात्मनः ।

राजासहार्थतत्त्वज्ञैस्सचिवैर्बुस्सहिजीवति ।।6.63.13।।


राजा king, अर्थतत्त्वज्ञैः reality of things, सचिवैःसहि with ministers, आत्मनः himself, हितानुबन्धम् What is beneficial, आलोक्य thinking well, इह here, कार्यम् action, कार्यात् by their action, जीवति living.

"That king who knows the reality of things and makes decisions in consultation with his ministers, who make their living with their intelligence will live happily."
अनभिज्ञायशास्त्रार्थान् पुरुषाःपशुबुद्धयः ।

प्रागल्भ्याद्वक्तुमिच्छन्तिमन्त्रेष्वभ्यन्तरीकृताः ।।6.63.14।।


मन्त्रेषु with ministers, अभ्यन्तरीकृताः being included in to express their views, पशुबुद्धयः those who have the intelligence level of animals, पुरुषाः men, शास्त्रार्थान् meaning of shastras, अनभिज्ञाय not knowing, प्रागल्भ्यात् impudence, वक्तुम् expressing, इच्छन्ति desire.

"People whose intelligence level is no better than animals, who have been included to express their views, who do not know the meaning of shastras express their views out of impudence."
अशास्त्रविदुषांतेषां न कार्यमभिहितंवचः ।

अर्थशास्त्रानभिज्ञानांविपुलांश्रियमिच्छताम् ।।6.63.15।।


अशास्त्रविदुषाम् who having no knowledge of shastras, अर्धशास्त्रानभिज्ञानाम् ignorant of science of wealth, विपुलाम् huge, श्रियम् wealth, इच्छताम् desire, तेषाम् their, अभिहितम् advice, वचः words, न कार्यम् not to be followed.

"Those who have no knowledge of shastras are ignorant of the science of wealth and desire huge wealth. Their advice ought not to be followed."
अहितं च हिताकारंधार्ष्ट्याज्जल्पन्तियेनराः ।

अवेक्ष्यमन्त्रबाह्यास्तेकर्तव्याःकृत्यदूषणा:।। 6.63.16।।


ये those, नराः people, हिताकारम् in wholesome grab, अहितम् not good, धार्ष्ट्यात् out of impudence, जल्पन्ति prattle, कृत्यदूषणा: mar the purpose, ते they, अवेक्ष्य examining early, मन्त्रबाह्याः keep them away from discussion, कर्तव्याः is essential duty.

"Those who tender advice, which is unwholesome but in wholesome grab, out of their impudence should be kept away from discussion examining early as they mar the purpose."
विनाशयन्तोभर्तारंसहिताश्शत्रुभिर्बुधैः ।

विपरीतानिकृत्यानिकारयन्तीहमन्त्रिणः ।।6.63.17।।


इह some, मन्त्रिणः ministers, भर्तारम् king's, विनाशयन्तः to ruin, बुधैः, शत्रुभिः enemies, सहिताः collide, विपरीतानि wrong, कृत्यानि actions, कारयन्ति will undertake.

"Some ministers in order to ruin the king, collide with enemies and make the king take wrong actions."
तान्भर्तामित्रसङ्काशानमित्रान्मन्त्रनिर्णये ।

व्यवहारेणजानीयात्सचिवानुपसम्हितान् ।।6.63.18।।


भर्ता ruler, उपसम्हितान् who have become close to enemy, मित्रसङ्काशान् appearing as friends, अमित्रान् enemies, तान् they, सचिवान् ministers, मन्त्रनिर्णये through their behaviour, व्यवहारेण in deliberations, जानीयात् must know.

" A ruler should know those ministers bribed by the enemy, who have become close to the enemy and appear as friends. Those ministers must be known through their behaviour in the deliberations."
चपलस्येहकृत्यानिसहसानुप्रधावतः ।

छिद्रमन्येप्रपद्यन्तेक्रौञ्चस्य ख मिवद्विजाः ।।6.63.19।।


चपलस्य unsteady, कृत्यानि actions, सहसा forcibly, अनुप्रधावतः rush after, छिद्रम् containing holes, क्रौञ्चस्य Krauncha mountain, खम् birds, द्विजाःइव like brahmins, अन्ये other, प्रपद्यन्ते elaborate.

"Enemies find out the weakness of the king who is unsteady and rush after the actions forcibly without thinking like brahmins just as birds find the holes in Krauncha mountain and elaborate to others."
योहिशत्रुमवज्ञायनात्मानमभिरक्षति ।

अवाप्नोतिहिसोऽनर्थान् स्थानाच्चव्यवरोप्यते ।।6.63.20।।


यः he who, शत्रुम् enemy, अवज्ञाय knowing fully, आत्मानम् himself, नाभिरक्षति does not protect himself, सः he, अनर्थान् reverses, अवाप्नोतिहि attains, स्थानात् from position, व्यवरोप्यते च is dragged

"He who knowing fully the actions of the enemy does not protect himself he attains reverses and is also dragged down from position."
यदुक्तमिहतेपूर्वंक्रियतामनुजेन च ।

तदेवनोहितंवाक्यंयदिच्छसि च तत्कुरु ।।6.63.21।।


पूर्वम् in the past, ते you, अनुजेन brother's, यत् that which, उक्तम् was told, क्रियताम् do that, नः not, तत् that, वाक्यमेव that advice alone, हितम् is good, यत् that, इच्छसि you wish, तत् that, कुरु you may do.

"The advice given to you in the past by your brother alone is good. That is good for you. Or you may do what you wish."
तत्तुश्रुत्वादशग्रीवःकुम्भकर्णस्यभाषितम् ।

भ्रुकुटिंचैवसञ्चक्रेक्रुद्धश्चैनमभाषत ।।6.63.22।।


दशग्रीवःतु ten headed Ravana, कुम्भकर्णस्य Kumbhakarna's, तत् that, भाषितम् spoken, श्रुत्वा having heard, भ्रुकुटिम् eyebrows, सञ्चक्रे shaking frowned, क्रुद्धश्च in anger, एनम् this way, अभाषत spoke.

Kumbhakarna having spoken that way, the ten headed Ravana frowned, shaking his eyebrows in anger and spoke this way.
मान्योगुरुवारिचार्यःकिमांत्वमनुशाससि ।

किमेवंवाक्छ्रमंकृत्वाकालेयुक्तंविधीयताम् ।।6.63.23।।


मान्यः worthy of respect, गुरुः father, आचार्यःइव like teacher, त्वम् you, माम् me, किम् why, अनुशाससे instruct, एवम् in that way, वाक्छ्रमम् cleverness in speaking, कृत्वा doing, किम् why, काले time, युक्तम् is appropriate, विधीयताम् follow.

"Why do you, who are worthy of respect, instruct me like a father or teacher? These words express your cleverness in speaking. It is time to do what is appropriate now. Follow what is to be done."
विभ्रमाच्चित्तमोहाद्वाबलवीर्याश्रयेणवा ।

नाभिपन्नमिदानींयद्व्यर्थातस्यपुनःकथाः ।।6.63.24।।


विभ्रमात् due to delusion, चित्तमोहाद्वा lack of understanding, बलवीर्यश्रयेणवा or due to pride of strength, यत् that, नाभिपन्नम् did something, तस्य that, इदानीम् now to talk of it, पुःकथाः again the same story, व्यर्था is futile

"Due to delusion, or lack of understanding or due to pride of my strength I did something. To talk of it now again is futile."
अस्मिन्कालेतुयद्युक्तंतदिदानींविधीयताम् ।

गतंतुनानुशोचन्तिगतंतुगतमेवहि ।।6.63.25।।


अस्मिन् that alone, काले time, यत् that, युक्तम् which is proper, तत् that, इदानीम् to do now, विधीयताम् you may speak, गतम् past, न अनुशोचन्ति not think of again, गतम् past, गतमेवहि is past.

"You may speak of only what is proper to do now. Do not think of the past as it is gone."
ममापनयजंदोषंविक्रमेणसमीकुरु ।

यदिखल्वस्तिमेस्नेहोविक्रमंवाऽवगच्छसि ।।6.63.26।।

यदिवकार्यंमेतत्तेहृदिकार्यतमंमतम् ।


मे to me, स्नेहः affection, अस्तिखलुयदि if at all it is there now, विक्रमम् valour, अवगच्छसिवा if you recognize, मम to me, एतत् this, कार्यम् action, ते you हृदि at heart, कार्यतमम् What ought to be done, मतंयदि if you deem it right, मम to me, अपनयजम् justified, दोषम् evil, विक्रमेण by valour, समीकुरु nullify.

"If at all there is any affection in you for me now, you recognize your strengths and think what action is justified in your heart. You may nullify the evil that sprung from my heart."
स सुहृद्योविपन्नार्थंदीनमभ्यवपद्यते ।।6.63.27।।

स बन्धुर्योऽपनीतेषुसाहाय्यायोपकल्पते ।


यः he who, विपन्नार्थम् fortune at loss, दीनम् desperate, अभ्यवपद्यते, सः he, सुहृत् out of love, यः he, अपनीतेषु deviating from morals, साहाय्याय one who helps, उपकल्पते prepared, सः he, बन्धुः is a relation.

" A friend is one who helps when one's fortune is lost and is desperate. Deviating from morals the one who is prepared to help is a relation."
तमथैवंब्रुवाणंतुवचनंधीरदारुणम् ।।6.63.28।।

रुष्टोऽयमितिविज्ञायशनैश्श्लक्षणमुवाच ह ।


अथ and then, एवम् in that way, धीरदारुणम् grave and harsh, वचनम् tone, ब्रुवाणम् arguing, तम् him, अयम् exceedingly, रुष्टः agitated, इति thus, विज्ञाय knowing, सः he, शनैः slowly, श्लक्षणम् gentle tone, उवाच ह spoke.

Thereafter knowing that Ravana is agitated and arguing in a grave and harsh manner, Kumbhakarna, spoke slowly in a gentle tone.
अतीवहिसमालक्ष्यभ्रातरंक्षुभितेन्द्रियम् ।।6.63.29।।

कुम्भकर्णश्शनैर्वाक्यंबभाषेपरिसान्त्वयन् ।


भ्रातरम् brother, अतीव very much, क्षुभितेन्द्रियम् disturbed senses, समालक्ष्य taking hold, कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, परिसान्त्वयन् consoling, शनैः slowly, वाक्यम् words, बभाषे said.

Sensing that Ravana is disturbed very much, Kumbhakarna taking hold of the brother and consoling him slowly said these words.
शृणुराजन्नवहितोममवाक्यमरिन्दम ।।6.63.30।।

अलंराक्षसराजेन्द्र सन्तापमुपपद्यते ।

रोषं च सम्परित्यज्यस्वस्थोभवितुमर्हसि ।।6.63.31।।


राक्षसराजेन्द्र Rakshasa king, अरिन्दम scourge of enemies, राजन् king, अवहितः putting aside, मम my, वाक्यम् words, शृणु listen, ते you, सन्तापम् sorrow, उपपद्य arrive at, अलम् even, रोषं च agony, सम्परित्यज्य, स्वस्थः normal, भवितुम् you be, अर्हसि ought to.

"Listen to my words, Rakshasa king! You are a scourge of enemies. Put aside this sorrow. Give up the agony also. Be normal. You ought to be your normal self again."
नैतन्मनसिकर्तव्यंमयिजीवतिपार्थिव ।

तमहंनाशयिष्यामियत्कृतेपरितप्यते ।।6.63.32।।


पार्थिव my body, मयि I am, जीवति life, एतत् all this, मनसि in mind, न कर्तव्यम् not to be entertained, यत्कृते by whose account, परितप्यते you are agitated, तम् him, अहम् I, नाशयिष्यामि will exterminate.

"While I am (my body is) with life you need not entertain despondency. I will exterminate him, by whose account you are agitated."
अवश्यंतुहितंवाच्यंसर्वावस्थांतवमया ।

बन्धुभावादभिहितंभ्रातृस्नेहाच्छपार्थिव ।।6.63.33।।


पार्थिव king, सर्वावस्थां in all circumstances, तवम् to you, मया I am, अवश्यम् certainly, हितम् good advice, तु to you, वाच्यम् give, बन्धुभावत् being a relation, भ्रातृस्नेहाच्छ brotherly affection, अभिहितम् salutary advice.

"O king! I will give you good advice in all circumstances being a relation. Salutary advice has been given to you out of brotherly affection."
सदृशंयत्तुकालेऽस्मिन् कर्तुंस्निग्धेनबन्धुना ।

शत्रूणांकदनंपश्यक्रियमाणंमयारणे ।।6.63.34।।


अस्मिन् at this, काले time, बन्दुना relation, स्निग्धेन out of affection, यत्, कर्तुम् will do, सदृशम् right, रणे in war, मया by me, क्रियमाणम् action, शत्रूणाम् enemies, कदनम् destruction, पश्य you will see.

" At this time, you will see a relation doing that which is right out of affection. All enemies will be destroyed."
अद्यपश्यमहाबाहो मयासमरमूर्धनि ।

हतेरामेसहभ्रात्राद्रवन्तींहरिवाहिनीम् ।।6.63.35।।


महाबाहो mighty armed, मया by me, अद्य, रणमूर्धनि in war front, रामे Rama, भ्रात्रासह along with brother, हते kill, द्रवन्तीम् fleeing, हरिवाहिनीम् Vanara army, पश्य you see.

"O mighty armed King! You see Rama along with his brother being killed by me and Vanaras fleeing away from the forefront of war."
अद्यरामस्यतद्दृष्टवामयानीतंरणाच्छिरः ।

सुखीभवमहाबाहो सीताभवतुदुःखिता ।।6.63.36।।


महाबाहो mighty armed, अद्य now, रणात् from war, आनीतम् will bring, रामस्य Rama's, तत् that, शिरः head, दृष्टवा seeing, सुखी be happy, भव you, सीता Sita, दुःखिता sad, भवतु will be.

"Be happy today, O Mighty armed brother! I will bring Rama's head from the battlefield. Sita will be sad. You will see."
अद्यरामस्यपश्यन्तुनिधनंसुमहत्प्रियम् ।

लङ्कायांराक्षसाःसर्वेयेतेनिहतबान्धवाः ।।6.63.37।।


लङ्कायाम् at Lanka, ये those, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, निहतबान्धवाः relations killed, तेसर्वे all of them, अद्य now, रामस्य Rama's, सुमहत्प्रियम् very welcome, निधनम् death, पश्यन्तु witness.

" All the Rakshasas in Lanka whose relations have been killed will witness Rama's death which will be very welcome."
अद्यशोकपरीतानांस्वबन्धुवधकारणात् ।

शत्रोर्युधिविनाशेनकरोम्यस्रप्रमार्जनम् ।।6.63.38।।


अद्य now, युधि in war, शत्रोः enemy, विनाशेन abode, स्वबन्धुवध and their kin कारणात् for that reason, शोकपरीतानाम् bewailing loss, अस्रप्रमार्जनम् wipe their tears, करोमि will do.

Now I will wipe the tears of Rakshasas who lost their kin and are bewailing their loss.
अद्यपर्वतसङ्काशंससूर्यमिवतोयदम् ।

विकीर्णंपश्यसमरेसुग्रीवंप्लवगोत्तम ।।6.63.39।।


अद्य now, समरे in war, प्रकीर्णम् of mountain shape, पर्वतसङ्काशम् resembling mountain, ससूर्यम् illumined by evening Sun, तोयदम् इव like a cloud water, प्लवगोत्तम foremost of the monkeys, सुग्रीवम् Sugriva, पश्य see.

"Now you will see Sugriva the foremost of monkeys in mountain shape, resembling mountains bathed in blood like evening Sun illumined like the cloud."
कथं च राक्षसैरेभिर्मया च परिरक्षितः ।

जिघांसुभिर्दाशरथिं वध्यसे त्वमिहानघ ।।6.63.40।।


अनघ sinless Ravana, दाशरथिम् Son of Dasaratha, जिघांसुभिः intending to kill, एभिःराक्षसैः these Rakshasas, मयाच I am also, परिरक्षितः protecting, त्वम् you, इह here, कथं च why, वध्यसे can kill.

"O Sinless Ravana! As I am going to kill this son of Dasaratha whom Rakshasas are intending to kill, how can Rama kill you now?"
मांनिहत्यकिलत्वांहिनिहनिष्यतिराघवः ।

नाहमात्मनिसन्तापंगच्छेयंराक्षसाधिप ।।6.63.41।।


राक्षसाधिप Rakshasa king, राघवः Raghava, माम् me, निहत्य not kill, त्वाम् you, निहनिष्यतिकिलहि will kill you after killing me, अहम् I, आत्मनि myself, सन्तापम् distress, न गच्छेयम् never give way.

"Rakshasa king! Raghava will kill you only after killing me. Never give way for distress."
कामंवतिदानीमपिमांव्यादिशत्वंपरन्तप ।

न परःप्रेषणीयस्तेयुद्धायातुलविक्रम ।।6.63.42।।


परन्तप scorcher of enemies, अतुलविक्रम endowed with extraordinary strength, इदानीमपि at this moment, कामम् better than me, माम् me, व्यादिश command, युद्धाय to wage war, परः others, न प्रेषणीयः no one to besought for.

"Command me to wage war at this moment, O Scorcher of enemies. There is no one better than me to be sought for O hero endowed with extraordinary strength."
अहमुत्सादयिष्यामिशत्रूंस्तवमहाबल: ।

यदिशक्रोयदियमोयदिपावकमारुतौ ।।6.63.43।।

तानहंयोधयिष्यामिकुबेरवरुणावपि ।


अहम् I am, महाबल: mighty strong, तवशत्रून् your enemy, उत्सादयिष्यामि contend with, शक्रः Indra यदि or, यमः Yama यदि or, पावकमारुतौयदि fire god or wind god, कुबेरवरुणावपि Kubera or Varuna also, तान् them, अहम् I, योथयिष्यामि exterminate them.

"I shall exterminate your enemies, however mighty they may be. I can contend with Indra or fire god or Yama or wind god, Kubera or even Varuna."
गिरिमात्रशरीरस्यशितशूलधरस्यमे ।।6.63.44।।

नर्दतस्तीक्षणदंष्ट्रस्यबिभीयाच्चपुरन्दरः ।


गिरिमात्रशरीरस्य body as big as a mountain, शितशूरधरस्य with spike like pointed teeth, तीक्षणदंष्ट्रस्य sharp too the d, नर्दतः roar, मे my, पुरन्दरः Indra, भिभीयात् च will run out of fear.

"Even Indra with a body as big as a mountain, with pointed teeth like a spike, with sharp teeth will fear me and run if I roar.
अथवात्यक्तशस्त्रस्यमृद्नतस्तरसारिपून् ।।6.63.45।।

न मेप्रतिमुखेस्थातुंकश्चित् शक्तोजिजीविषुः ।


अथवा or else, त्यक्तशस्त्रस्य giving up weapons, तरसा crush, रिपून् enemy, मृद्नतः with swords and shafts, मे I, जिजीविषुः with arms, कश्चित् indeed, प्रतिमुखे opposite to me, स्थातुम् to stand, न शक्तः not possible.

"Or else giving up weapons and swords using my arms indeed I can crush, and no one can stand in front of me."
नैवशक्त्या न गदयानासिनानिशितैश्शरैः ।।6.63.46।।

हस्ताभ्यामेवसम्रब्दोहनिष्याम्यपिवज्रिणम् ।


शक्त्या javelin, नैव not, गदया mace, न not, असिना sword, निशितैः sharp, शरैः arrows, नैव not, सम्रब्दः enraged, हस्ताभ्यामेव with hand s alone, वज्रिणमपि even Indra, हनिष्यामि strike down.

"I shall not fight with javelin or mace or sword or sharp arrows. Enraged, alone I can strike down even Indra."
यदिमेमुष्टिवेगं स राघवोऽद्यसहिष्यते ।।6.63.47।।

ततःपाश्यन्तिबाणौघारुधिरंराघवस्यतु ।


अद्य now, राघवः Raghava, तु you, मुष्टिवेगम् force of my fists, सहिष्यतियदि can with stand, ततः that he, मे my, बाणौघाः volleys of arrows, राघवस्य Raghava's, रुधिरम् blood, पाश्यन्ति see.

"Now if that Raghava can withstand the force of my fists, you will see volleys of Rama's arrows will drink my blood."
चिन्तयाबाध्यसेराजन्किमर्थंमयितिष्ठति ।।6.63.48।।

सोऽहंशत्रुविनाशाय तव निर्यातुमुद्यतः ।


राजन् king, मयि I am, तिष्ठति here, किमर्थम् for what purpose, चिन्तया worry, बाध्यसे anxiety, सः he, अहम् I, तव your, शत्रुविनाशाय will destroy your enemy, निर्यातुम् decidedly, उद्यतः going now.

"O King! while I am here for what reason do you worry and have anxiety? I will go now and decidedly destroy your enemy."
मुञ्चरामाद्भयंराज न्हनिष्यामीहसम्युगे ।।6.63.49।।

राघवंलक्ष्मणंचैवसुग्रीवं च महाबलम् ।

हनूमन्तं च रक्षोघ्नंलङ्कायेनप्रदीपिता ।।6.63.50।।


राजन् king, भयम् fear, मुञ्च give up, इह here, सम्युगे battlefield, राघवम् Rama, लक्ष्मणं Lakshmana, महाबलम् mighty, सुग्रीवं च Sugriva also, येन our, लङ्का Lanka, प्रदीपिता who set fire, रक्षोघ्नम् many Rakshasas, हनूमन्तं च Hanuman also, निहनिष्यामि dispose of.

"O King! Give up the fear, as both Rama and Lakshmana will be made short of work in the battlefield, as also mighty Sugriva and dispose of Hanuman, the destroyer of many Rakshasas and who set fire to Lanka."
हरींश्चापिहनियिष्यामिसंयुगेसमवास्थिवान् ।

असाधारणमिच्छामिनदातुंमहद्यशः ।।6.63.51।।


समवास्थिवान् remain steady, संयुगे in the battlefield, हरीन् च अपि even monkeys also, हनियिष्यामि confer, तव your, असाधारणम् unusual, महत् great, यशः glory, दातुम् confer, इच्छामि wish to.

"I will remain steady in the battlefield and devour monkeys also. I wish to confer an unusual and great glory on you."
तदिचेन्द्राद्भयं राजन्यदि चापिस्वयम्भुवः ।

ततोऽहंनाशयिष्यामिनैशंतमइवांशुमान् ।।6.63.52।।

अपिदेवाश्शयिष्यन्तेक्रुद्धेमयिमहीतले ।


राजन् king, इन्द्रात् with Indra, भयंयदि if there is fear, स्वयम्भुवःचापि even if there is fear with Brahma, ततः that, अहम् I, नैशम् haunts, तमः them, अंशुमानिव like Sun, नाशयिष्यामि will destroy, मयि by me, क्रुद्धे by my anger, देवाः Deva अपि also, महीतले on the earth, शयिष्यन्ते fall flat.

"Even if there is fear of Indra and Brahma that haunts you, I shall destroy them away like the sun dispels darkness. Devas will fall flat on earth when I am enraged."
यमं च शमयिष्यामिभक्षयिष्यामिपावकम् ।।6.63.53।।

आदित्यंपातयिष्यामिसनक्षत्रंमहीतले ।


यमं च Yama also, शमयिष्यामि quell, पावकम् fire god, भक्षयिष्यामि will devour, सनक्षत्रम् including stars, आदित्यम् Sun, महीतले on the earth, पातयिष्यामि make them fall.

"I shall quell Lord Yama also, devour fire god, make the Sun including stars fall on earth."
शतक्रतुंवधिष्यामिपास्यामिवरुणालयम् ।।6.63.54।।

पर्वतांश्चूर्णयिष्यामिदारयिष्यामिमेदिनीम् ।


शतक्रतुम् Indra who has done hundred sacrifices, वधिष्यामि will kill, वरुणालयम् ocean the abode of god Varuna, पास्यामि will drink up, पर्वतान् mountains, चूर्णयिष्यामि will crush them totally, मेदिनीम् earth, दारयिष्यामि break.

"I shall kill Indra who has done a hundred sacrifices, drink up the ocean the abode of Varuna, crush the mountains totally, and break the earth."
दीर्घकालंप्रसुप्तस्यकुम्भकर्णस्यविक्रमम् ।।6.63.55।।

अद्यपश्यन्तुभूतानिभक्ष्यमाणानिसर्वशः ।

नन्विदंत्रिदिवंसर्वमाहारस्य न पूर्यते ।।6.63.56।।


अद्य now, सर्वशः all over, भक्ष्यमाणानि will be eaten, भूतानि beings, दीर्घकालम् for long time, प्रसुप्तस्य has been sleeping, कुम्भकर्णस्य Kumbhakarna's, विक्रमम् prowess, पश्यन्तु will see, इदम् now, सर्वम् all, त्रिदिवम् three worlds (earth, heaven and intermediate region), आहारस्य food, न पूर्यतेननु my stomach will not be filled.

" All beings all over will be eaten now. For a long time Kumbhakarna was sleeping. Now you will see that the food of all the three worlds, earth, heaven and intermediate region will not be enough to fill my stomach."
वधेनतेदाशरथेःसुखार्हंसुखंसमाहर्तुमहंव्रजामि ।

निहत्यरामंसहलक्ष्मणेनखादामिन्हरियूथमुख्यान् ।।6.63.57।।


दाशरथेः son of Dasaratha, वधेन destruction of, ते you, सुखावहम् worthy of happiness, सुखम् for your happiness, समहर्तुम् will collect, अहम् I, व्रजामि in the battlefield, लक्ष्मणेनसह along with Lakshmana, रामम् Rama, निहत्य on killing, सर्वान् all, हरियूथमुख्यान् Vanara leaders, खादामि will devour.

"Through the destruction of Rama, I will bring happiness to you who are worthy of happiness. I will collect Rama along with Lakshmana and all the Vanara leaders and devour all."
रमस्वराजन् पिबचाद्यवारुणींकुरुष्वकृत्यानिविनीयतांम् ।

मयाद्यरामेगमितेयमक्ष्यंचिरायसीतावशगाति ।।6.63.58।।


राजन् king, रमस्व Rama's, अद्य now, वारुणीम् wine, पिब च drink, ज्वरः, विनीयताम् give up agony, कृत्यानि works, कुरुष्व start doing, अद्य now, मया by me, रामे Rama, यमक्ष्यम् to the abode of Yama, गमिते will be going, चिराय for long, सीता Sita, वशगा will submit to your will, भविष्यति will be.

"O King! Now you drink wine, give up agony and start with work. Now Rama will be going to the abode of Yama sent by me. Sita will submit to you for long."
