[Kumbhakarna's terrific encounter with Sri Rama. Kumbhakarna's death in the hands of Sri Rama.]

तेनिवृत्तामहाकायाश्श्रुत्वाङ्गदवचस्तदा ।

नैष्ठिकींबुद्धिमास्थायसर्वेसङ्ग्रामकाङ्क्षिणः ।।6.67.1।।


तदा then, अङ्गदवचः Angada's words, श्रुत्वा having heard, निवृत्ताः death, महाकायाः of huge body, सर्वे all, ते they, नैष्ठिकीम् decided, बुद्धिम् realising, आस्थाय returned, सङ्ग्रामकाङ्क्षिणः who desired to wage war.

Having heard Angada's words, the Vanaras of gigantic body firmly decided to wage war and returned back.
समुदीरितवीर्यास्तेसमारोपितविक्रमाः ।

पर्यवस्थापितावाक्यैरङ्गदेनवलीमुखाः ।।6.67.2।।

प्रयाताश्चगताहर्षंमरणेकृतश्चयाः ।

चक्रुस्सुतुमुलंयुद्धंवानरास्त्यक्तजीविताः ।।6.67.3।।


समुदीरितवीर्याः leaders reminded of their valour, समारोपितविक्रमाः valiant in war, वलीमुखाः returned, अङ्गदेन by Angada, वाक्यैः words, पर्यवस्थापिताः reminded of their valour, तेवानराः The Vanaras, हर्षम् gladly, गताः came, मरणे at death, कृतश्चयाः resolved, प्रयाताः restrained, त्यक्तजीविताः staked their life, सुतुमलम् fierce, युद्धम् battle, चक्रुः carried on.

The Vanara leaders, having been reminded of their valour in battle by Angada gladly returned with a resolve to stake their life and carried on the battle.
अथवृक्षान्महाकायास्सानूनिसुमहान्ति च ।

वानरास्तूर्णमुद्यम्यकुम्भकर्णमभिद्रुताः ।।6.67.4।।


अथ and then, महाकायाः endowed with huge body, वानराः Vanaras, वृक्षान् trees, सुमहान्ति huge size, सानूनि mountain peaks, उद्यम्य taking hold, तूर्णम् quickly, कुम्भकर्णम् Kumbhakarna, अभिद्रुताः rushed towards.

Thereafter the Vanaras of huge body wielding huge trees and mountain peaks quickly rushed towards Kumbhakarna.
कुम्भकर्णस्सङ्कृद्धोगदामुद्यम्यवीर्यवान् ।

अर्थयन्समहाकायस्समन्ताद् व्यक्षिपद्रिपून् ।।6.67.5।।


महाकायः possessing huge body, वीर्यवान् valiant one, कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, सुसङ्कृद्धः highly enraged, गदाम् mace, उद्यम्य lifted , अर्धयन् crescent shaped arrow, रिपून् enemies, समन्तात् all sides, व्यक्षिपत् struck.

Valiant Kumbhakarna, a gigantic one, highly enraged lifted mace and crescent shaped arrow struck the enemies on all sides.
शतानिसप्तचाष्टौ च सहस्राणि च वानराः ।

प्रकीर्णाःशेरतेभूमौकुम्भकर्णेनपोधिताः ।।6.67.6।।


सप्त seven, अष्टौ च eight, शतानि even hundred, सहस्राणि च thousand, वानराः Vanara, कुम्भकर्णेन by Kumbhakarna, पोधिताः folding in arms, प्रकीर्णाः threw, भूमौ on the ground, शेरते serpents.

Kumbhakarna held seven or eight or even hundred, thousand vanaras and threw them on the ground like serpents thrown by Garuda.
षोडशाष्टौ च दश च विंशत्रतिंशस्तथैव च ।

परिक्षिप्य च बाहुभ्यांखादन्विपरिधावति ।।6.67.7।।

भक्ष्यन् भृशसङ्क्रुद्धोगरुडःपन्नगानिव ।


भृशःसङ्क्रुद्धः extremely angry, षोडश sixteen, अष्टौ च eight, दश च ten also, तथैव in the same way, विंशत् ninety nine, त्रिंशत् thirty, बाहुभ्याम् many more, परिक्षिप्य holding around, खादन् devouring, पन्नगान् serpents, भक्ष्यन् eating, गरुडःइव like Garuda, परिधावति went about.

Kumbhakarna became extremely angry, and caught hold of sixteen, eight, ten vanaras in the same way ninetynine and thirty and many more Vanaras and devoured them and went about like Garuda after having eaten the serpents.
कृच्छ्रेणचसमाश्वस्ताःसङ्गम्यचततस्ततः ।।6.67.8।।

वृक्षाद्रिहस्ताहरयस्तस्थुस्सङ्ग्राममूर्थनि ।


हरयः Vanaras, कृच्छ्रेण with difficulty, समाश्वस्ताः restoring confidence, ततस्ततः here and there, सङ्गम्य च collected together, वृक्षाद्रिहस्ताः wielding trees and mountains in hand, सङ्ग्राममूर्थनि forefront of battle, तस्थुः stood.

The Vanaras collected from here and there, having restored confidence in themselves with great difficulty, held trees and mountains and stood in the forefront of the battle.
ततःपर्वतमुत्पाट्यद्विविदःप्लवगर्षभः ।।6.67.9।।

दुद्रावगिरिशृङ्गाभंविलम्बइवतोयदः ।


ततः thereafter, प्लवगर्षभः bull among Vanaras, द्विविदः Dwivida, पर्वतम् mountain, उत्पाट्य lifting, विलम्ब threatening, तोयदःइव resembling cloud. गिरिशृङ्गाभम् like mountain peak, दुद्राव went towards.

Thereafter Dwivida, a bull among the Vanaras lifted a mountain and went towards Kumbhakarna who resembled a threatening cloud.
तंसमुत्पत्यचिक्षेपकुम्भकर्णायवानरः ।।6.67.10।।

तमप्राप्यमहाकायंतस्यसैन्येऽपतत्तधा ।


वानरः Vanara, समुत्पत्य reaching near, तम् him, कुम्भकर्णाय Kumbhakarna, चिक्षेप struck, महाकायम् of huge body, तम् him, अप्राप्य missing the target, तधा like that, तस्य his, सैन्ये army, अपतत् fell on.

Vanara (Dwivida) going near Kumbhakarna struck him with the mountain. He missed the target and it fell on his army.
ममर्दाश्वान्गजांश्चापिरथांश्चापिनगोत्तमः ।।6.67.11।।

तानिचान्यानिरक्षांसिएवंचान्यगदिरेःशिरः ।


नगोत्तमः huge mountain, अश्वान् on horses, गजांश्चापि crushed elephants, रथांश्चापि and also chariots, ममर्ध crushed, अन्यत् other, गिरेःशिरः top of the mountain, तानि by that, अन्यानि other, रक्षांसि Rakshasas also.

The huge mountain peak crushed the horses, elephants and chariots and Rakshasa charioteers also.
तच्चैलवेगाभिहतंहताश्वंहतसारथि ।।6.67.12।।

रक्षसांरुधिरक्लिन्नंबभूवायोधनंमहत् ।


रक्षसाम् Rakshasas, महत् great, अयोधनम् battlefield, तच्छैलवेगाभिहतम् by the speed of the mountain, हताश्वम् horses crushed, हतसारथि charioteers dead, रुधिरक्लिन्नम् blood flowed, बभूव remained wet.

The battlefield on which the Rakshasas and horses were crushed, charioteers were killed by the speed of the mountain remained wet with blood.
रथिनोवानरेन्द्राणांशरैःकालान्तकोपमैः ।।6.67.13।।

शिरांसिनर्दतांजह्रुस्सहसाभीमनिस्स्वना ।


भीमनिःस्वना emitting frightening sounds, रथिनः charioteers, कालान्तकोपमैः deadly like the Lord of death at the time of universal dissolution, शरैः arrows, सहसा forcibly, नर्दताम् roaring, वानरेन्द्राणाम् Vanara leaders, शिरांसि heads, जह्रुः severed.

The Rakshasa charioteers severed the roaring Vanara leaders forcibly with their arrows emitting frightening sounds. They were like the Lord of Death at universal dissolution.
वानराश्चमहात्मानस्समुत्पाट्यमहाद्रुमान् ।।6.67.14।।

रथावश्वान्गजानुष्ट्रान्राक्षसानभ्यसूदयन् ।


महात्मानः great, वानराश्च Vanaras, महाद्रुमान् huge trees, समुत्पाट्य uprooting, रथान् chariots, अश्वान् horses, उष्ट्रान् camels, राक्षसान् Rakshasas, अभ्यसूदयन् began to destroy.

Great monkeys, uprooting huge trees, began to destroy chariots, horses, camels, and Rakshasas.
हनुमान् शैलशृङ्गाणिशिलाश्चविविधान् द्रुमान् ।।6.67.15।।

ववर्षकुम्भकर्णस्यशिरस्यम्बरमास्थितः ।


हनूमान् Hanuman, अम्बरम् sky, आस्थितः stationed, कुम्भकर्णस्य Kumbhakarna's, शिरसि on the head, शैलशृङ्गाणि mountain peaks, शिलाश्च rocks, विविधान् several, द्रुमान् kinds of trees, ववर्षrained.

Stationed in the sky Hanuman rained mountain peaks, rocks, and huge trees of several kinds on the head of Kumbhakarna.
तानिपर्वतशृङ्गाणिशूलेन स बिभेद ह ।।6.67.16।।

बभञ्जवृक्षवर्षं च कुम्भकर्णोमहाबलः ।


महाबलः mighty, कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, शूलेन those rocks, तानि them, पर्वतशृङ्गाणि mountain peaks, बिभेद ह breaking, वृक्षवर्षं च rain of trees, बभञ्ज split off.

Mighty Kumbhakarna split off the rocks, mountain peaks and the trees breaking them.
ततोहरीणांतदनीकमुग्रंदुद्रावशूलंनिशितंप्रगृह्य ।

तस्थौ स तस्यापततःपुरस्तान्महीधराग्रंहनुमान् प्रगृह्य ।।6.67.17।।


ततः thereafter, उग्रम् sharp, शूलम् pike, प्रगृह्य holding, हरीणाम् Vanaras, उग्रम् sharp, तत् that, अभीकम् rushed, दुद्राव uprooted, हनुमान् Hanuman, महीधराग्रम् mountain peak, प्रगृह्य seizing, आपततः obstructed, तस्य its, पुरस्तात् before, तस्थौ him.

Thereafter Kumbhakarna holding a sharp pike rushed towards Hanuman who uprooted a mountain peak and obstructed him placing it before him.
स कुम्भकर्णंकुपितोजघानवेगेनशैलोत्तमभीमकायम् ।

स चक्षुभेतेनतदाभिभूतोमेदार्द्रगात्रोरुधिरावसिक्तः ।।6.67.18।।


कुपितः enraged, सः he, शैलोत्तमभीमकायम् rock like frightening body, कुम्भकर्णम् Kumbhakarna, वेगेन swiftly, जघान struck, तदा then, तेन by that, अभिभूतः overpo were d, सः he, मेदार्द्रगात्रः bespattered with fat, रुदिरावसिक्तः bathed in blood, सचक्षुभे upset.

Enraged Hanuman struck Kumbhakarna endowed with a rock like frightening body. Overpowered by that blow Kumbhakarna was upset and bespattered with fat and got bathed in blood.
स शूलमासाद्यतटित्प्रकाशंगिरिर्यथाप्रज्वलिताग्रशृङ्गम् ।

बाह्वन्तरेमारुतिमाजघानगुहोऽचलंक्रौञ्चमिवोग्रशक्त्या ।।6.67.19।।


सः that, गिरिः mountain, प्रज्वलिताग्रशृङ्गंयथा like a blazing peak, तडित्प्रकाशम् shining like lightning, शूलम् pike, आविध्य pierced, गुहः as Guha (son of Lord Siva), उग्रशक्त्या formidable, क्रौञ्चम् अचलमिव like the Krauncha mountain, मारुतिम् at Maruti, बाह्वन्तरे in between shoulders, the breast, आजघान struck.

Kumbhakarna ,who was like a mountain blazing like fire, pierced at Maruti's chest with his pike shining like lightning just as Guha struck at Krauncha mountain.
शूलनिर्भिन्नमहाभुजान्तरःप्रविह्वलःशोणितमुद्वमन् मुखात् ।

ननादभीमंहनुमान् महाहवेयुगान्तमेघस्न्तितस्वनोपमम् ।।6.67.20।।


महाहवे great son of windgod, शूलनिर्भिन्नमहाभुजान्तरः being pierced with pike in the chest, सःहनूमान् that Hanuman, प्रविह्वलः ejecting, मुखात् from his mouth, शोणितम् blood, उद्वमन् came out, युगान्तमेघस्न्तितस्वनोपमम् thunder rumblings at dissolution of the universe, भीमम् frightening, ननाद roar.

The great son of windgod, pierced with pike in the chest, ejected blood from his mouth, and roared in a frightening manner which was like thunder rumbling at the time of dissolution of the universe.
ततोविनेदुःसहसाप्रहृष्टारक्षोगणास्तंव्यथितंसमीक्ष्य ।

प्लवङ्गमास्तुव्यथिताभयर्ताःप्रदुद्रुवुःसंयतिकुम्भकर्णात् ।।6.67.21।।


ततः then, रक्षोगणाः Rakshasa army, व्यथितम् agonized तम् his, समीक्ष्य perceiving, प्रहृष्टाः happy, सहसा collected, विनेदुः rejoiced, प्लवङ्गमास्तु for Vanaras, व्यथिताः. frightened, भयार्ताः in fear, संयति , कुम्भकर्णात् Kumbhakarna's, प्रदुद्रुवुः fled.

Rakshasa's army collected together rejoiced to see Hanuman agonized. Vanaras were frightened and fled in fear of Kumbhakarna.
ततस्तुनीलोबलवान् पर्यवस्थापयन्बलम् ।

प्रविचिक्षेपशैलाग्रंकुम्भकर्णायधीमते ।।6.67.22।।


ततः thereafter, बलवान् endowed with strength, नीलः Neela, बलम् army, पर्यवस्थापयन् restoring the army, धीमते wise one, कुम्भकर्णाय Kumbhakarna, शैलाग्रम् with peak of a mountain, प्रविचिक्षेप flung.

The mighty and wise Neela flung a peak of a mountain on Kumbhakarna and restored the confidence of the army.
तदापतन्तंसम्प्रेक्ष्यमुष्टिनाभिजघान ह ।

मुष्टिप्रहाराभिहतंतच्छैलाग्रंव्यशीर्यत ।।6.67.23।।

सविस्फुलिंगंसज्वालनिपपातमहेतले ।


तदा after that, आपतन्तम् coming towards, सम्प्रेक्ष्य observing, मुष्टिना with fist, अभिजघान ह pierced, मुष्टिप्रहाराभिहतम् struck by fist, तत् that, शैलाग्रम् mountain peak, व्यशीर्यत broken, सविस्फुलिंगम् like sparks of fire, सज्वालम् shining brightly, महीतले on the ground, निपपात fell.

(Kumbhakarna) observing the mountain peak coming towards him pierced it with his fist. Struck by the fist, the peak broke and sparks of fire came out shining brightly and fell on the ground.
ऋषभश्शरभोनीलोगवाक्षोगन्धमादनः ।।6.67.24।।

पञ्चवानरशार्दूलाःकुम्बुकर्णमुपाद्रवन् ।


ऋषभः Rshaba, शरभः Sarabha, नीलः Neela, गवाक्षः Gavaksha, गन्धमादनः Gandhamadana, पञ्च five, वानरशार्धूलाः tigers among Vanaras, कुम्बकर्णम् Kumbhakarna, उपाद्रवन् attacked.

Rshaba, Sarabha, Neela, Gavaksha and Gandhamadana, these five tigers among Vanaras attacked Kumbhakarna.
शैलैर्ववृक्षैस्तलैःपादैर्मुष्टिभिश्चमहाबलाः ।।6.67.25।।

कुम्भकर्णंमहाकायंसर्वतोऽभिप्रदुद्रुवुः ।


महाबलाः Vanaras of exceptional strength, शैलैः rock, वृक्षैः trees, तलैः palms, पादैः feet, मुष्टिभिः च and fist also, महाकायम् of huge body, कुम्बकर्णम् Kumbhakarna, सर्वतः all over, अभिप्रदुद्रुवुः attacked severely.

Those Vanaras of exceptional strength attacked gigantic Kumbhakarna on all sides by rocks, trees and by their fists, hands and feet also.
स्पर्शानिवप्रहारांस्तान्वेद्वयानो न विव्यथे ।।6.67.26।।

ऋषभंतुमहावेगंबाहुभ्यांपरिषस्वजे ।


तान् his, प्रहारान् attacks, स्पर्शानिव like touches, वेदयानः pain, न विव्यधे not felt, महावेगम् of great impetuosity, ऋषभम् Rshaba, बाहुभ्याम् shoulders, परिषस्वजे encircled.

Their attacks were like soft touches to Kumbhakarna, and no pain was experienced by him, and he encircled Rshaba by the shoulders with great impetuosity.
कुम्भकर्णभुजाभ्यांतुपीडितोवानरर्षभः ।।6.67.27।।

निपपातर्षभोभीमःप्रमुखाद्वान्तशोणितः ।


कुम्भकर्णभुजाभ्यां Kumbhakarna's shoulders, पीडितः pressing, वानरर्षभः bull among Vanaras, भीमः frightful, ऋषभः Rshaba, प्रमुखाद्वान्तशोणितः blood flowing from his teeth, निपपात fell down.

Rshaba, the bull among Vanaras, of frightful appearance pressed by Kumbhakarna's shoulders, started bleeding from his teeth and fell down.
मुष्टिनाशरभंहत्वाजानुनानीलमाहवे ।।6.67.28।।

आजघानगवाक्षंतुलेनेन्द्ररिपुस्तदा ।

पादेनाभ्यहनत्कृद्धस्तरसागन्धमादनम् ।।6.67.29।।


तदा then, क्रुद्धः angry, इन्द्ररिपुः enemy of Indra, आहवे hit, शरभम् Sarabha, मुष्टिना with fist, नीलम् Neela, जानुना knees, हत्वा hurting, गवाक्षम् Gavaksha, तलेन with palm, आजघान slapped, गन्धमादनम् Gandhamadana, तरसा kicked, पादेन with feet, अभ्यह नत् with force.

Angry Kumbhakarna (enemy of Indra) hit Sarabha with his fist, Neela with his knees hurt Gavaksha and slapped him with his palms. Gandhamadana was kicked with force.
दत्तप्रहारव्यथितामुमुहुश्शोणितोक्षिताः ।

निपेतुस्तेतुमेदिन्यांनिकृत्ताइवकिंशुकाः ।।6.67.30।।


ते they, दत्तप्रहारव्यथिताः hurt by the blows, शोणितोक्षिताः eyes bathed in blood, मुमुहुः fainted, निकृत्ताः cut down, किंशुकाःइव like Kimsuka trees, मेदिन्याम् on the ground, निपेतुः lay.

Hurt by the blows of Kumbhakarna, their eyes bathed in blood, the Vanaras fainted and fell on the ground like cut down Kimsuka trees.
तेषुवानरमुख्येषुपातितेषुमहात्मसु ।

वानराणांसहस्राणिकुम्बकर्णंप्रदद्रुवुः ।।6.67.31।।


महात्मसु great leaders, तेषु they being, वानरमुख्येषु important among Vanaras, पातितेषु fallen, वानराणाम् Vanaras, सहस्राणि thousands, कुम्भकर्णम् Kumbhakarna, प्रदुद्रुवुः went towards.

Being great leaders and the important among them fallen, the Vanaras went in thousands towards Kumbhakarna.
तंशैलमिवशैलाभाःसर्वेतुप्लवगर्षभाः ।

समारुह्यसमुत्पत्यददंशुश्चमहाबलाः ।।6.67.32।।


शैलाभाः looking like mountains themselves, महाबलाः endowed with strength, सर्वे all, ते of them, प्लवगर्षभाः bulls among Vanaras, शैलमिव like mountain, तम् him, समारुह्य climbing up, समुत्पत्य jumping, ददंशुः bit him.

The bulls among Vanaras themselves looking like mountains endowed with great strength climbed up Kumbhakarna and bit him.
तंनखैर्धशनैश्चापिमुष्टिभिर्बाहुभिस्तथा ।

कुम्भकर्णंमहाबाहहुंतेजघ्नुःप्लवगर्षभाः ।।6.67.33।।


प्लवगर्षभाः bull among monkeys, महाबाहुम् endowed with strong shoulders, तंकुम्बकर्णम् that Kumbhakarna, नखैः nails, दशनैश्चापि teeth also, मुष्टिभिः with fists also, तथा like that, बाहुभिः arms, तेजघ्नुः hurt him.

The bulls among Vanaras hurt Kumbhakarna, endowed with strong shoulders, by scratching with nails, biting with teeth and hitting him with arms and fists.
स वानरसहस्त्रैरजितः पर्वतोपमैः ।

रराजराक्षसव्याघ्रोगिरिरात्मरुहैरिव ।।6.67.34।।


वानरसहस्त्रैरजित covered by thousands of monkeys, पर्वतोपमः resembling mountain, सः he, राक्षसव्याघ्रः tiger among Rakshasas, आत्मरुहैः grown on itself, गिरिःइव like mountain, रराज appeared.

The tiger among Rakshasas covered with thousands of Rakshasas was resembling a mountain with trees grown on itself.
बाहुभ्यांवानरान्सर्वान्प्रगृह्य स महाबलः ।

भक्ष्यामाससङ्क्रुद्धोगरुडःपन्नगानिव ।।6.67.35।।


महाबलः mighty strong, सः he, सर्वान् all, वानरान् Vanaras, बाहुभ्याम् shoulders, प्रगृह्य holding, सङ्क्रुद्धः highly enraged, गरुडः Garuda, पन्नगानिव serpents like, भक्ष्यामास started devouring.

Holding the Vanaras, the mighty Kumbhakarna started devouring all Vanaras just as Garuda does with serpents.
प्रक्षिप्ताःकुम्बकर्णेनवक्त्रेपातालसन्निभे ।

नासापुटाभ्यांनिर्जग्मुःकर्णाभ्यांचैववानराः ।।6.67.36।।


कुम्बकर्णेन Kumbhakarna, पातालसन्निभे the nethermost world, वक्त्रे mouth, प्रक्षिप्ताः thrust into, वानराः Vanaras, नासापुटाभ्याम् through nostrils, कर्णाभ्यांचैव and also through ears, निर्जग्मुः came out.

As Kumbhakarna thrust Vanaras into his mouth, the Vanaras came out through his nostrils and also through his ears.
भक्ष्यन्भृशसङ्क्रुद्धो हरीन् पर्वतसन्निभः ।

बभञ्जवानरान् सर्वान् सङ्क्रुद्धोराक्षसोत्तमः ।।6.67.37।।


भृशसङ्क्रुद्धः very angry, पर्वतसन्निभः like the mountain, राक्षसोत्तमः foremost of Rakshasas, सङ्कृद्धः very angry, हरीन् Vanaras, भक्ष्यन् eating, वानरान् Vanaras, बभञ्ज mutilated.

The foremost of the Rakshasas, who resembled a mountain became enraged and mutilated the Vanaras.
मांसशोणितसंक्लेदाकुर्वन् भूमिं स राक्षसः ।

चचारहरिनैन्येषुकालानगिरिवमूर्छितः ।।6.67.38।।


सःराक्षसः That Rakshasa, भूमिम् terrible, मांसशोणितसंक्लेदाम् wetting the ground with flesh and blood, कुर्वन् done, मूर्छितः swooning, कालानगिरिव like the fire at dissolution, हरिसैन्येषु into the army of Vanaras, चचार ranged through.

That terrible Rakshasa swooning and wetting the ground with flesh and blood ranged through the army of Vanaras like fire at the time of dissolution of the universe.
वज्रहस्तोयथाशक्रःपाशहस्तइवान्तकः ।

शूलहस्तोबभौयुद्धेकुम्बकर्णोमहाबलः ।।6.67.39।।


शूलहस्तः holding pike in hand, महाबलः mighty, कुम्बकर्णः Kumbhakarna, युद्धे in battlefield, वज्रहस्तः thunderbolt in hand, शक्रःयथा like Indra, पाशहस्तः like noose in hand, अन्तकःइव like Lord of death, बभौ shone.

Holding pike in hand, mighty Kumbhakarna was shining in the battlefield like Indra holding thunderbolt, and like Lord of Death holding the noose.
यथाशुष्काण्यरण्यानिग्रीष्मेदहतिपावकः ।

तथावानरसैन्यानिकुम्बकर्णोविनिर्दहत् ।।6.67.40।।


ग्रष्मे summer, शुष्काणि dried, अरण्यानि forest, पावकः fire god, यथा like that, दहति consumes, तथा that, सःकुम्बकर्णः Kumbhakarna, वानरसैन्यानि Vanara army, विनिर्दहत् consuming.

Just as fire god consumes dried forest in summer, Kumbhakarna was consuming the Vanara army.
ततस्तेवध्यमानास्तुहतयूथाविनायकाः ।

वानराभयसंविग्नाविनेदुर्विस्वरंभृशैः ।।6.67.41।।


ततः then, हतयूथाः killed army, विनायकाः moved without any leader, तेवानराः those Vanaras, वध्यमानाः killed, भयसंविग्नाः with fear, विकृतैः unnatural sound, भृशैः in anger, विस्वरम् roared.

Then with the army killed, the Vanaras moved without any leader making unnatural sounds out of fear and anger.
अनेकशोवध्यमानाःकुम्भकर्णेनवानराः ।

राघवंशरणंजग्मुर्व्यथिताःभिन्नचेतसः ।।6.67.42।।


कुम्भकर्णेन Kumbhakarna, अनेकशः in many ways, वध्यमानाः destroying, वानराः Vanaras, व्यथिताः worried, भिन्नचेतसः heartbroken, राघवम् Raghava, शरणंजग्मुः sought refuge.

Destroyed by Kumbhakarna in many ways, the Vanaras were heartbroken and sought the refuge of Raghava.
प्रभग्नान् वानरान् दृष्टवावज्रहस्तात्मजात्मजः ।

अभ्यधावतवेगेनकुम्भकर्णंमहाहवे ।।6.67.43।।


महाहवे son of Vali, प्रभग्नान् defeated, वानरान् Vanaras, दृष्टवा seeing, वज्रहस्तात्मजात्मजः sprung from Indra, the wielder of thunderbolt, वेगेन rushed, कुम्भकर्णम् to Kumbhakarna, अभ्यधावत to assault.

The son of Vali who sprung from Indra, the wielder of the thunderbolt seeing the Vanaras routed, rushed towards Kumbhakarna to assault.
शैलशृङ्गंमहद्गृह्यविनदंश्चमुहुर्मुहुः ।

त्रासयन्राक्षसान्सर्वान् कुम्भकर्णपदानुगान् ।।6.67.44।।

चिक्षेपशैलशिखरंकुम्भकर्णस्यमूर्धनि ।


सः he, महत् huge, शैलशृङ्गम् peak of mountain, गृह्य taking, मुहुर्मुहुः again and again, विनदन् roaring aloud, कुम्भकर्णपदानुगान् following Kumbhakarna, सर्वान् all, राक्षसान् Rakshasas, त्रासयन् frightening शैलशिखरम् mountain top, कुम्भकर्णस्य Kumbhakarna's, मूर्धनि forehead, चिक्षेप crushed.

Angada taking a huge peak of a mountain roaring again and again following Kumbhakarna frightening the Rakshasas flung the mountain top on the forehead of Kumbhakarna and crushed him.
स तेनाभिहतोमूर्ध्निशैलेनेन्द्ररिपुस्तदा ।।6.67.45।।

कुम्भकर्णःप्रजज्वालक्रोधेनमहतातदा ।

सोऽभ्यधावतवेगेनवालिपुत्रममर्षणम् ।।6.67.46।।


तदा then, तेन by that, शैलेन mountain, मूर्ध्नि on the forehead, अभिहतः struck, इन्द्ररिपुः Indra's enemy, सःकुम्भकर्णः that Kumbhakarna, महता huge, क्रोधेन furious, प्रजज्वाल burning, तदा then, अमर्षणम् intolerant, वालिपुत्रम् to Vali's son, वेगेन rushed, अभ्यधावत with force.

Hit on the forehead by Angada, Kumbhakarna, burning with fury rushed. The intolerant Rakshasa then rushed to Vali's son with force.
कुम्भकर्णोमहानादस्त्रासयन् सर्ववानरान् ।

शूलंससर्जवैरोषादङ्गदेतुमहाबलः ।।6.67.47।।


महानादः loud noise, महाबलः mighty, कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, सर्ववानरान् all Vanaras, त्रासयन् frightening, अङ्गदे to Angada, रोषात् agitated, शूलम् pike, ससर्ज hurled.

Mighty Kumbhakarna agitated, making loud noise and frightening all the Vanaras hurled his pike on Angada.
त मापतन्तंबुद्ध्वातुयुद्धमार्गविशारदः ।

लाघवान्मोचयामाबलवान् वानरर्षभः ।।6.67.48।।


युद्धमार्गविशारदः knowledgeable in warfare, बलवान् endowed with prowess, वानरर्षभः bull among Vanaras, आपतन्तम् stopped, तम् that, बुद्ध्वा approaching, लाघवात् agility, मोचयामास escaped.

Angada who was knowledgeable of warfare, endowed with prowess, a bull among Vanaras, stopped the pike approaching him with agility and escaped.
उत्पत्यचैनंतरसातलेनोरस्यताडयत् ।

स तेनाभिहतःकोपात्प्रमुमोहाचलोपमः ।।6.67.49।।


उत्पत्य jumping up, एनम् in that manner, तरसा slapped, तलेन with palm, उरसि on the chest, अताडयत् struck, तेन by that, कोपात् in anger, अभिहतः struck, अचलोपमः like mountain, सः he, प्रमुमोह unconscious.

Jumping up that way, Angada slapped him with his palm on the chest in anger. By that the mountain like Kumbhakarna became unconscious.
स लब्दसंज्ञोबलवान्मुष्टिमावर्त्यराक्षसः ।

अपहास्तेनचिक्षेपविसंज्ञः स पपात ह ।।6.67.50।।


बलवान् mighty, सः he, राक्षसः Rakshasa, लब्दसंज्ञः regained consciousness, मुष्टिम् fist, आवर्त्य doubling, अपहास्तेन back of his hand, चिक्षेप hit, सः him, विसंज्ञः lost consciousness, पपात ह fell.

The mighty Rakshasa regained his consciousness and, doubling his fist hit Angada with the back of his hand and Angada fell, lost senses.
तस्मिन् प्लवगशार्दूलेविसंज्ञेपतितेभुवि ।

तच्छूलंसमुपादायसुग्रीवमभिदुद्रुवे ।।6.67.51।।


प्लवगशार्दूले tiger among monkeys, तस्मिन् his, विसंज्ञे unconscious, भुवि on ground, पतिते fallen, तच्छूलम् that pike, समुपादाय taking out, सुग्रीवम् to Sugriva, समभिदुद्रुवे rushed towards.

When the tiger among the monkeys fell unconscious on ground, Kumbhakarna rushed towards Sugriva taking out the pike.
तमापतन्तंसम्प्रेक्ष्यकुम्भकर्णंमहाबलम् ।

उत्पपाततदावीरस्सुग्रीवोवानराधिपः ।।6.67.52।।


तदा then, वीरः valiant, वानराधिपः Vanara leader, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, आपतन्तम् coming, महाबलम् mighty, कुम्भकर्णम् Kumbhakarna, उत्पपात jumped.

Valiant Sugriva, seeing the mighty Kumbhakarna coming towards him jumped (in excitement).
स पर्वताग्रमुत्क्षिप्यसमाविध्यमहाबलः ।

अभिदुद्राववेगेनकुम्भकर्णंमहाबलम् ।।6.67.53।।


महाबलः of great prowess, सः he (Sugriva), पर्वताग्रम् mountain peak, उत्क्षिप्य lifting, समाविध्य whirling round, महाबलम् great strength, कुम्भकर्णम् Kumbhakarna, वेगेन swiftly, अभिदुद्राव darted towards.

Sugriva, of great prowess lifting a mountain peak, whirled it round and round and darted towards Kumbhakarna swiftly.
तमापतन्तंसम्प्रेक्ष्यकुम्भकर्णःप्लवङ्गमम् ।

तस्थौविवृतसर्वाङ्गोवानरेन्द्रस्यसम्मुखः ।।6.67.54।।


कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, आपतन्तम् approaching, तम् him, प्लवङ्गमम् monkey, सम्प्रेक्ष्य looking, विवृतसर्वाङ्गः all limbs braced, वानरेन्द्रस्य Vanara Lord's, सम्मुखः forefront.

Kumbhakarna, looking at the monkey Lord advancing towards him, stood in front of all limbs braced.
कपिशोणितदिग्धाङ्गंभक्ष्यन्तंप्लवङ्गमान् ।

कुम्भकर्णंस्थितंदृष्टवासुग्रीवोवाक्यमब्रवीत् ।।6.67.55।।


कपिशोणितदिग्धाङ्गम् smeared with the blood of Vanaras, प्लवङ्गमान् monkeys, भक्ष्यन्तम् eating, स्थितम् stood, कुम्भकर्णम् Kumbhakarna, दृष्टवा seeing, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, वाक्यम् words, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Sugriva spoke these words seeing Kumbhakarna who stood smeared with the blood of Vanaras and eating monkeys.
त्वजतद्वानरानीकंप्राकृतैःकिंकरिष्यसि ।

सहस्वैकंनिपातंमेपर्वतस्यास्यराक्षस ।।6.67.57।।


तत् that, वानरानीकम् Vanara troops, त्यज give up, प्राकृतैः by nature, किंकरिष्यसि What work, राक्षस Rakshasa, मे with me, अस्यपर्वतस्य your mountain's, एकम् निपातम् one mountain, सहस्व bear.

"Give up with Vanaras, who are monkeys by nature. Bear this one mountain's blow of mine."
तद्वाक्यंहरिराजस्यसत्त्वधैर्यसमन्वितम् ।

श्रुत्वाराक्षसशार्दूलःकुम्भकर्णोऽब्रवीद्वचः ।।6.67.58।।


हरिराजस्य king of Vanaras, सत्त्वधैर्यसमन्वितम् words of courage and strength, तत् वाक्यम् those words, श्रुत्वा on hearing, राक्षसशार्दूलः Rakshasa tiger, कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, वचः words, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Hearing the king of Vanara's words of courage and strength, the tiger among Rakshasas, Kumbhakarna spoke these words.
प्रजापतेस्तुपौत्रस्त्वंतथैवरक्षरजस्सुतः ।

श्रुतपौरुषसम्पन्नःकस्माद्गर्जसिवानर ।।6.67.59।।


वानर O Vanara, त्वम् you, प्रजापतेः creator, पौत्रः grandson, तथैव therefore, ऋक्षरजस्सुतः Rksharaja's son, श्रुतपौरुषसम्पन्नः endowed richly with fortitude, कस्मात् therefore, गर्जसि roaring.

"O Vanara! You are the grandson of creator Brahma and son of Rksharaja, endowed with fortitude and so roaring like this."
स कुम्भकर्णस्यवचोनिशम्यव्याविध्यशैलंसहसामुमोच ।

तेनाजघानोरसिकुम्भकर्णंशैलेनवज्राशनिसन्निभेन ।।6.67.60।।


सः he, कुम्भकर्णस्य Kumbhakarna's, वचः words, निशम्य hearing, शैलम् mountain, व्याविध्य separating, सहसा forcibly, मुमोच discharged, वज्राशनिसन्निभेन resembling thunderbolt, तेन by that, कुम्भकर्णम् Kumbhakarna, उरसि chest, आजघान dropped.

On hearing Kumbhakarna's words, Sugriva forcibly discharged a mountain resembling a thunderbolt on the chest of Kumbhakarna.
तच्छैलशृङ्गंसहसाविकीर्णंभुजान्तरेतस्यतदाविशाले ।

ततोनिषेदुःसहसाप्लवङ्गारक्षोगणाश्चापिमुदाविनेदुः ।।6.67.61।।


तदा then, तस्य his, विशाले broad, भुजान्तरे between shoulders, तत् that, शैलशृङ्गम् mountain peak, सहसा forcefully, विभिन्नम् broke into pieces, ततः thereafter, प्लवङ्गाः monkey, सहसा forcibly, विषण्णाः desperate, रक्षोगणाश्चापि the troops of Rakshasas, मुदा joy, विनेदुः roared.

Then the mountain peak dropped on the chest broke into pieces. Thereafter the monkeys were despaired, and Rakshasas roared in joy.
स शैलशृङ्गाभिहतश्चुकोपननादरोषाच्चविवृत्यवक्त्रम् ।

व्याविध्यशूलं च तटित्प्रकाशंचिक्षेपहर्यृक्षिपतेर्वधाय ।।6.67.62।।


सः , शैलशृङ्गाभिहताः struck with mountain peak, चुकोप became furious, रोषात् pride hurt, वक्त्रम् mouth, विवृत्य opening widely, ननाद made loud noise, तटित्प्रकाशम् glowing like lightning, शूलम् pike, व्याविध्य turning round in circles, हर्यृक्षिपतेः to destroy Sugriva, वधाय put an end, चिक्षेप hurled.

Struck with mountain peaks, the Rakshasa became furious, and his pride was hurt. He opened his mouth widely making loud noises, his pike glowing like lightning, turned the pike into circles and hurled at Sugriva to put an end to him.
तत्कुम्भकर्णस्यभुजप्रविद्धंशूलंशितंकाञ्चनदामजुष्टम् ।

क्षिप्रंसमुत्पत्यनिगृह्यदोर्भ्यांबभञ्जवेगेनसुतोऽनिलस्य ।।6.67.63।।


अनिलस्यसुतः son of windgod, क्षिप्रम् instantly, समुत्पत्य seizing, कुम्भकर्णस्य Kumbhakarna's, भुजप्रविद्धम् with his arms, शितम् shaft, काञ्चनदामजुष्टम् covered with chains of gold, तत् that, शूलम् pike, दोर्भ्याम् both hands, निगृह्य holding, वेगेन quickly, बभञ्ज broke.

Hanuman the son of windgod instantly seized Kumbhakarna with his arms, whose shaft was covered by chains and broke with both hands quickly.
कृतंभारसहस्रस्यशूलंकालायसंमहत् ।

बभञ्जजानुमारोप्यतदाहृष्टःप्लवङ्गमः ।।6.67.64।।


तदा then, हृष्टः rejoiced, प्लवङ्गमः monkey, भारसहस्रस्य thousand bharas, कृतम् done, महत् great, कालायसम् iron, शूलम् pike, जानुम् knee, आरोप्य resting, बभञ्ज broke it.

Then a rejoiced monkey, resting the thousand bharas iron pike on his knee broke it.
शूलंभग्नंहनुमतादृष्टवावानरवाहिनी ।

हृष्टाननादबहुशस्सर्वतश्चापिदुद्रुवे ।।6.67.65।।


वानरवाहिनी Vanara army, हनुमता by Hanuman, भग्नम् broken, शूलम् pike, दृष्टवा seeing, हृष्टा rejoiced, बहुशः repeatedly, ननाद roared, सर्वतः च all over, दुद्रुवेअपि and rushed.

Seeing the pike broken by Hanuman, the army of Vanaras rejoiced and roared repeatedly all over and rushed.
बभूवथपरित्रस्तोराक्षसोविमुखोऽभवत् ।

सिंहनादं च तेचक्रुःप्रहृष्टावनगोचराः ।।6.67.66।।

मारुतिंपूजयाञ्चक्रुर्दृष्टवाशूलंतथागतम् ।


अथ and then, राक्षसः Rakshasa, परित्रस्तः dismayed, विमुखः mellowed, अभवत् became, ते they, वनगोचराः forest rangers, प्रहृष्टाः rejoiced, सिंहनादम् roared like lions, चक्रुः went round, तथागतम् broken that way, शूलम् pike, दृष्टाम् seeing, मारुतिम् Hanuman, पूजयाञ्चक्रुः applauded.

Rakshasa was dismayed and mellowed. The forest rangers rejoiced and roared like lions going round. Seeing the broken pike Vanaras applauded Hanuman.
स तत्तथाभग्नमवेक्ष्यशूलंचुकोपरक्षोधिपतिर्महात्मा ।

उत्पाट्यलङ्कामलयात्सशृङ्गंजघानसुग्रीवमुपेत्यतेन ।।6.67.67।।


महात्मा great soul, सः he, रक्षोधिपतिः Lord of Rakshasas, तत् there, शूलम् pike, तथा that way, भग्नम् broken, अवेक्ष्य seeing, चुकोप highly enraged, लङ्कामलयात् Malaya from Lanka, शृङ्गम् mountain, उत्पाट्य taking hold, सुग्रीवम् at Sugriva, उपेत्यतेन approaching, जघान struck.

That great soul, the Lord of Rakshasas seeing the pike broken in that way, was highly enraged. Taking Malaya Mountain from Lanka, he struck Sugriva who was approaching him.
स शैलशृङ्गाभिहतोविसंज्ञःपपातभूमौयुधिवानरेन्द्रः ।

तंप्रेक्ष्यभूमौपतितंविसंज्ञनेदुःप्रहृष्टास्त्वथयातुधानाः ।।6.67.68।।


सः he, वानरेन्द्रः Vanara king, शैलशृङ्गाभिहतः struck by mountain piece, विसंज्ञः became unconscious, भूमौ on the ground, पपात dropped, युधि battle, भूमौ field, पतितम् fallen, विसंज्ञम् without consciousness, तम् him, प्रेक्ष्य seeing, यातुधानाः Rakshasas, प्रहृष्टाः happy, स्त्वथ themselves, नेदुः roar of triumph.

Struck by the piece of mountain the Vanara king became unconscious and dropped on the battlefield. Seeing that the Rakshasas were happy and naturally roared with a feeling of triumph.
मभ्युपेत्याद्भुतघोरवीर्यं स कुम्भकर्णोयुधिवानरेन्द्रम् ।

जहारसुग्रीवमभिप्रगृह्ययथानिलोमेघमतिप्रचण्डः ।।6.67.69।।


सः he, कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, युधि battle, अद्भुतघोरवीर्यम् wonderful and dreadful valour, वानरेन्द्रम् Vanara Lord, तंसुग्रीवम् that Sugriva, अभिप्रगृह्य taking up again, अतिप्रचण्डः highly tempestuous, अनिलः wind, मेघंयथा like cloud, जहार took him.

Kumbhakarna approaching the Vanara Lord Sugriva endowed with wonderful and dreadful prowess, went like wind carrying clouds taking him.
स तंमहामेघनिकाशरूपमुत्पाट्यगच्छन्युधिकुम्भकर्णः ।

रराजमेरुप्रतिमानरूपोमेरुर्यथाभ्युछ्रचितघोरशृङ्गः ।।6.67.70।।


युधि in the battlefield, महामेघनिकाशरूपम् form which resembled huge cloud, तम् him, उत्पाट्य lifting, गच्छन् went, मेरुप्रतिमानरूपः form of Meru mountain, कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, अभ्युछ्रचितघोरशृङ्गः distinguished by lofty peak, मेरुर्यथा like Meru, रराज seemed.

In the battlefield, the form of Kumbhakarna which resembled a huge cloud was distinguished in appearance like the lofty peak of mountain Meru.
ततस्तमादायजगामवीरस्संस्तूयमानोयुधिराक्षसेन्द्रैः ।

शृण्वन्निनादंत्रिदिवालयानांप्लवङ्गराजग्रहविस्मितानाम् ।।6.67.71।।


ततः thereafter, वीरः hero, राक्षसेन्द्रः Rakshasa king, तम् his, आदाय taking hold, युधि in battle, संस्तूयमानः praising, प्लवङ्गराजग्रहविस्मितानाम् wondered at Sugriva's capture, त्रिदिवालयानाम् , निनादम् roaring sounds, शृण्वन् hearing, जगाम went.

Thereafter the heroic Rakshasa king having held Sugriva in the battle went, duly praised (by Rakshasas), hearing the roaring sounds of gods in heaven wondering at Sugriva's capture.
ततस्तमादायतदा स मेनेहरीन्द्रमिन्द्रोपममिन्द्रवीर्यः ।

अस्मिन् हतेसर्वमिदंहतंस्यात्सराघवंसैन्यमितीन्द्रशत्रुः ।।6.67.72।।


इन्द्रवीर्यः equal to Indra in heroism, इन्द्रशत्रुः Indra's enemy, सः he, ततः then, इन्द्रोपमम् like Indra, तम् him, हरीन्द्रम् Indra of monkeys, आदाय seizing, तदा then, अस्मिन् his, हते killed, सराघवम् having been killed, सर्वम् all, इदम् like this, सैन्यम् army, हतम् killed, स्यात् including, इति thus, मेने thought.

Then Kumbhakarna, an enemy of Indra, who was equal to Indra in heroism seizing Sugriva, the Indra of monkeys, who is equal to Indra, thought, 'If Sugriva is killed it is like killing all the army including Rama.'
विद्रुतांवाहिनींदृष्टवावानराणामितस्ततः ।

कुम्भकर्णेनसुग्रीवंगृहीतंचापिवानरम् ।।6.67.73।।

हनुमांश्चिन्तयामासमतिमान् मारुतात्मजः ।


मतिमान् wise one, मारुतात्मजः son of Maruti, हनुमान् Hanuman, इतस्ततः here and there, विद्रुताम् running away, वानराणाम् Vanaras, वाहिनीम् army, दृष्टवा seeing, वानरम् Vanaras, सुग्रीवम् Sugriva, कुम्भकर्णेन Kumbhakarna, गृहीतंचापि being captured, चिन्तयामास started thinking.

Seeing the army running away here and there and Sugriva being captured by Kumbhakarna, wise Hanuman, the son of Maruti started thinking.
एवंगृहीतेसुग्रीवेकिंकर्तव्यंमयाभवेत् ।।6.67.74।।

यद्वैन्यायंमयाकर्तुंतत्करिष्यामिसर्वधा ।

भूत्वापर्वतसङ्काशोनाशयिष्यामिराक्षसम् ।।6.67.75।।


सुग्रीवे Sugriva, एवम् in this way, गृहीते captured, मया my, किम् what, कर्तव्यम् duty, भवेत् will be, मया my, यत् that which, कर्तुम् will do, न्याय्यम् justice, तत् that, सर्वधा thought, करिष्यामि will do, पर्वतसङ्काशः one who is like a mountain, भूत्वा to be done, राक्षसम् Rakshasa, नाशयिष्यामि will destroy.

'Sugriva has been caught. What is my duty now? I will do what is just. I will destroy that Rakshasa who is in the form of a mountain', thought Maruti.
मयाहतेसंयतिकुम्भकर्णेमहाबलेमुष्टिविशीर्णदेहे ।

विमोचितेवानरपार्थिवे च भवन्तुहृष्टाःप्लवगास्समस्ताः ।।6.67.76।।


महाबले mighty, कुम्भकर्णे Kumbhakarna, मुष्टिविशीर्णदेहे shattered hit by fist, संयति in duel, मया by me, हते killed, वानरपार्थिवे Vanara king विमोचिते delivered, समस्ताः all, प्लवगाः monkeys, हृष्टाः rejoice, भवन्तु will be.

'Mighty Kumbhakarna shattered by my fist in a duel, and the king of Vanaras delivered, all the monkeys will be rejoiced.'
अथवास्वयमप्येषमोक्षंप्राप्स्यतिपार्थिव ।

गृहीतोऽयंयदिभवेत्रिदशैस्सासुरोरगैः ।।6.67.77।।


अथवा or else, अयम् एषः he alone, पार्थिव remain, सासुरोरगैः Nagas, gods and demons त्रिदशैः all the three, गृहीतः captured, भवेद्यदि by himself, स्वयम् himself, मोक्षम् liberate, प्राप्स्यति will attain.

'Or else this Sugriva alone can get liberated by fighting by himself with gods, demons and Nagas also, even if he is captured'.
मन्ये न तावदात्मानंबुध्यतेवानराधिपः ।

शैलप्रहाराभिहतःकुम्भकर्णेनसंयुगे ।।6.67.78।।


संयुगे in battle, कुम्भकर्णेन Kumbhakarna, शैलप्रहाराभिहतः hit by mountain and lost senses, वानराधिपः Vanara leader, आत्मानम् himself, न बुध्यतेतावत् not able to know, मन्ये I think.

"I think that Sugriva, hit by Kumbhakarna with a mountain, has lost senses and is not able to know."
अयंमुहूर्तात्सुग्रीवोलब्दसंज्ञोमहाहवे ।

आत्मनोवानराणां च यत्पथ्यंतत्करिष्यति ।।6.67.79।।


अयम् I, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, महाहवे gaining consciousness, मुहूर्तात् soon, लब्दसंज्ञः regaining senses, आत्मनः himself, वानराणां च Vanaras also, यत् that which, पथ्यम् good, तत् that, करिष्यति will do.

Sugriva will soon regain consciousness and do what is good for Vanaras.
मयातुमोक्षितस्यास्यसुग्रीवस्यमहात्मनः ।

अप्रीतिश्चभवेत्कष्टाकीर्तिनाशश्चशाश्वतः ।।6.67.80।।


मया I, मेक्षितस्य if released, महात्मनः great soul, अस्य his, सुग्रीवस्य Sugriva's, कष्टा caused, अप्रीतिश्च not happy, शाश्वतः ever, कीर्तिनाशश्च fame lost, भवेत् will be.

"If Sugriva is released by me, he will not be happy forever. His fame will be lost."
तस्मान्मुहूर्तंकाङ्क्षिष्येविक्रमंपार्थिवस्यतु ।

भिन्नं च वानरानीकंतावदाश्वासयाम्यहम् ।।6.67.81।।


तस्मात् therefore, मुहूर्तम् for a while, पार्थिवस्य exhibition, विक्रमम् of prowess, काङ्क्षिष्ये see, तावत् thereafter, भिन्नम् scattered, वानरानीकम् Vanara army, अहम् I, आश्वासयामि will reinforce.

"Therefore, I will see the exhibition of his prowess for a while. Thereafter I shall reinforce the scattered army of Vanaras."
इत्येवंचिन्तयित्वातुहनुमान्मारुतात्मजः ।

भूयःसंस्तम्भयामासवानराणांमहाचमूम् ।।6.67.82।।


मारुतात्मज son of Maruti, हनुमान् Hanuman, इत्येवम् in this way, चिन्तयित्वा thinking, अथ then, भूयः said, वानराणाम् to Vanaras, महाचमूम् huge army, संस्तम्भयामास brought determination.

Hanuman, the son of Maruti thinking in this way said to the Vanara army and brought determination.
स कुम्भकर्णोऽथविवेशलङ्कांस्पुरन्तमादायमहाकपिंतम् ।

विमानचर्यागृहगोपुरस्थैःपुष्पाग्य्रवर्षैरवकीर्यमाणः ।।6.67.83 ।


अत then, सःकुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, स्फुरन्तम् shaking, तम् his, महाकपिम् great Vanara, आदाय taking, विमानचर्यागृहगोपुरस्थैः through the roads of lofty mansions, पुष्पाग्य्रवर्षैः showered with flowers, अवकीर्यमाणः hailed by Rakshasas, लङ्काम् Lanka, विवेश entered.

Then Kumbhakarna taking the great Vanara who started to shake by then, entered Lanka through the roads of lofty mansions from where Rakshasas hailed showering flowers.
लाजगन्धोदवर्षैस्तुसिच्यमानश्सनैश्शनैः ।

राजवीथ्यास्तुशीतत्वात्संज्ञांप्रापमहाबलः ।।6.67.84।।


महाबलः exceptionally strong, लाजगन्धोदवर्षैःतु parched grain and fragrant water showered on him, सेव्यमानः being cool, राजवीथ्याः royal path, शीतत्वात् cool, शनैःशनैः slowly slowly, संज्ञाम् consciousness, प्राप gained.

Exceptionally strong Sugriva with parched grain and fragrant water showered on him in the royal path, being cool, regained consciousness.
ततस्ससंज्ञामुपलभ्यकृच्छ्राद्बलीयसस्तस्यभुजान्तरस्थः ।

अवेक्षमाणःपुरसाजमार्गंविचिन्तयामासमुहुर्महात्मा ।।6.67.85।।


बलीयसः being strong, तस्य his, भुजान्तरस्थः from the arms, महात्मा great, सः he, कृच्छ्रात् painfully, संज्ञाम् senses, उपलभ्य having gained, पुरराजमार्गम् royal path of the city, अवेक्षमाणः started looking, मुहुः bewildered, विचिन्तयामास started pondering.

(Sugriva) being strong and painfully gained senses, from the arms of the great Rakshasa, started looking at the royal path of the city. He was bewildered and started pondering this way.
एवंगृहीतेनकथंनुनामशक्यंमयासम्प्रतिकर्तुमद्य ।

तथाकरिष्यामियथाहरीणांभविष्यतीष्टं च हितं च कार्यम् ।।6.67.86।।


एवम् in that way, गृहीतेन caught, मया my, सम्प्रति taken, कथम् how, कर्तुम् What to do, शक्यम् possible, हरीणाम् to Vanaras, इष्टम् pleasing, हितं च good, कार्यम् task, यथा by which, भविष्यति will do, तथा that way, अद्य now, करिष्यामि will do.

'Caught in this way, how can I do (take action)? I will do what is possible, pleasing, and good to Vanaras now.'
ततःकराग्रैःसहसासमेत्यराजाहरीणाममरेन्द्रशत्रुम् ।

खरैश्चकर्णौदशनैश्चनासांददंशपार्श्वेषु च कुम्भकर्णम् ।।6.67.87।।


हरीणाम् Vanaras, राजा king, समेत्य deciding, ततः thereafter, खरैः ears, कराग्रैः with sharp nails, अमरेन्द्रशत्रोः enemy of the ruler of gods, कर्णौ ears, दशनैः with teeth, नासाम् nose, पार्श्वेषु sides, कुम्भकर्ण Kumbhakarna, ददंश bit off.

There after the king of Vanaras decided to act and tore off the ears of the enemy ruler of gods (Kumbhakarna) with his sharp nails, bit off the nose with his teeth, and sides of Kumbhakarna.
स कुम्भकर्णोहृतकर्णनासोविदारितस्तेनरदैर्नखैश्च ।

रोषाभिभूतःक्षतजार्द्रगात्रःसुग्रीवमाविध्यपिपेषभूमौ ।।6.67.88।।


तेन by him (Sugriva), रदैः teeth, नखैश्च with nails, विदारितः splitting, हृतकर्णनासः deprived of ears and nose, सःकुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, रोषाभिघातः highly furious, क्षतजार्द्रगात्रः limbs bespattered, सुग्रीवम् Sugriva, भूमौ ground, आविध्य against, पिपेष pounded.

Deprived of ears and nose by Sugriva, splitting with nails and teeth, Kumbhakarna was highly furious and pinning down Sugriva pounded him against the ground, limbs bespattered.
स भूतलेभीमबलाभिपिष्टस्सुरारिभिस्स्सैरभिहन्यमानः ।

जगामखंवेगवदभ्युपेत्यपुनश्चरामेणसमाजगाम ।।6.67.89।।


भूतले on the ground, भीमबलाभिपिष्टः of dreadful strength, तैः they, सुरारिभिः by enemies of god, अभिहन्यमानः pressed against the ground, सः he, वेगवत् with speed, अभ्युपेत्य bounced, खम् sky, जगाम reached, पुनश्च again, रामेण to Rama, समाजगाम reunited.

Dropped on the ground by Kumbhakarna of dreadful strength, pressed against the ground surface, Sugriva bounced to the sky to get reunited with Rama.
कर्णनासाविहीनस्तुकुम्भकर्णोमहाबलः ।

रराजशोणितैःसिक्तोगिरिःप्रस्रवणैरिव ।।6.67.90।।


कर्णनासाविहीनः devoid of nose and ears, महाबलः great hero, कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, शोणितैः with blood, सिक्तः drenched, प्रस्रवणैः like springs, गिरिःइव like mountain, रराज shone.

Great hero Kumbhakarna, devoid of ears and nose drenched in blood shone like a mountain in springs.
शोणितार्द्रोमहाकायोराक्षसोभीमविक्रमः ।

युद्धायाभिमुखोभीमोमनश्चक्रेनिशाचरः ।।6.67.91।।

नीलाञ्जनचयप्रख्यःसस्नध्यइवतोयदः ।

अमर्षाच्छोणितोद्गारीशुशुभेरावणानुजीः ।।6.67.92।।


शोणितार्द्रः drenched in blood, महाकायः of gigantic body, भीमविक्रमः of terrible valour, अमर्षात् intolerant, नीलाञ्जनचयप्रख्यः dark in colour like mountain of collyrium, तोयदःइव like cloud, शुशुभे evening, भीमः terrible appearance, निशाचरः night ranger, अभिमुखः towards, भूत्वा battlefield, युद्धाय to fight, मनः in mind, चक्रे went.

Kumbhakarna of terrific valour and gigantic body, drenched in blood, dark in colour like a mountain of collyrium, resembling evening cloud, the night ranger went towards the battlefield.
गतेतुतस्मिन् सुरराजशत्रुःक्रोधात्प्रदुद्रावरणायभूयः ।

अनायुधोऽस्मीतिविचिन्त्यरौद्रोघोरंतदामुद्गरमाससाद ।।6.67.93।।


तस्मिन् him, गते gone, सुरराजशत्रुः enemy of Lord of gods, क्रोधात् in anger, भूयः rushed, रणाय to fight, प्रदुद्राव retreating, रौद्रः ferocious, अनायुधः without weapon, अस्मि his, इति thus, विचिन्त्य reflecting, तदा then, मुद्गरम् iron mallet, आससाद seizing.

Himself (Sugriva) gone, the enemy of the Lord of gods rushed again retreating, "I am ferocious, without weapon." Then seizing an iron mallet, Sugriva went reflecting.
ततस्सपुर्यास्ससहसामहात्मानिष्क्रम्यतद्वानरसैन्यमुग्रम् ।

बभक्षरक्षोयुधिकुम्भकर्णःप्रजायुगान्तानगिरिवप्रवृद्धः ।।6.67.94।।


महात्मा great, रक्षः Rakshasa, सःकुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, ततः then, पुर्याः spread over, सहसा instantly, निष्क्रम्य departing, प्रवृद्धः entering into, युगान्तानगिः like fire at dissolution, प्रजाःइव people, युधि war, उग्रम् ferocious, तत् वानरसैन्यम् Vanara army, बभक्ष consumed.

The great Kumbhakarna then departing instantly entered into Vanara army consumed them as fire at dissolution consumed people.
बुभुक्षितःशोणइतमांसगृध्नुःप्रविव्यतद्वानरसैन्यमुग्रम् ।

चखादरक्षांसिहरीन् पिशाचान् ऋक्षांश्चमोहाद्युधिकुम्भकर्णः ।

यथैवमृत्युर्हरतेयुगान्ते स भक्ष्यामासहरींश्चमुख्यान् ।।6.67.95।।


बुभुक्षितः consumed, शोणितमांसगृध्नुः blood and flesh, कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, उग्रम् ferocious, तत् that, वानरसैन्यम् Vanara army, प्रविश्य entering, युधि battle, मोहात् delusion, रक्षांसि Rakshasas also, हरीन् Vanaras, पिशाचान् demons, ऋक्षान् च Bears, चखाद entering, युगान्ते at the end of universe, मृत्युः death, यथैव like the same way, हरते seizing, मुख्यान् principal, हरीन् Vanaras, भक्ष्यामास started consuming.

Kumbhakarna started seizing principal monkeys in the same way as death at the end of universe. Being famished for flesh and blood he entered the Vanara army in delusion and consumed not only Vanaras but Rakshasas, demons and bears also.
एकंद्वौत्रीन् बहून् क्रुद्धोवानरान्सहराक्षसैः ।

समादायैकहस्तेनप्रचिक्षेपत्वरन्मुखे ।।6.67.96।।


क्रुद्धः enraged, त्वरन् hastily, एकहस्तेन with one hand, समादाय taking, राक्षसैःसह Rakshasas, वानरान् Vanaras, एकम् alone, द्वौ two, त्रीन् three, बहून् many, मुखे mouth, प्रचिक्षेप gulping them.

Taking one, two, three, and many Vanaras along with Rakshasas hastily with one hand he was gulping them.
सम्प्रस्रवंस्तदामेदश्शोणिते च महाबलः ।

वध्यमानोनगेन्द्राग्रैर्भक्ष्यामासवानरान् ।।6.67.97।।


तदा then, महाबलः mighty, नगेन्द्राग्रैः peaks of mountains, वध्यमानः while being struck, मेदःशोणिते brain and blood, सम्प्रस्रवन् oozing out, वानरान् Vanaras, भक्ष्यामास feasting.

Then the mighty Kumbhakarna while being struck by peaks of mountains, he was feasting on Vanaras fat and blood oozing out from his mouth.
तेभक्ष्यमाणाहरयोरामंजुग्मुस्तदागतिम् ।

कुम्भकर्णोभृशंक्रुद्धःकपीन् खादन् प्रधावति ।।6.67.98।।


तदा then, भक्ष्यमाणा being consumed, तेहरयः those Vanaras, रामम् to Rama, गतिम् refuge, जग्मुः went, भृशम् swiftly, क्रुद्धः enraged, कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, कपीन् Vanaras, खादन् followed, प्रधावति behind them.

Being devoured by Kumbhakarna, the Vanaras went for refuge to Rama. Enraged Kumbhakarna followed the Vanaras behind.
शतानिसप्तचाष्टौ च विंशत्रतिंशत्तथैव च ।

सम्परिष्वज्यबाहुभ्यांखादवनिपरिधावति ।।6.67.99।।


शतानि hundred, सप्त च seven, अष्टौ च and eight, विंशत् twenty, तथैव च that way, त्रिंशत् three hundred, बाहुभ्याम् arms, सम्परिष्वज्य stretching all sides, खादन् devouring, विपरिधावति ran.

Stretching his arms on all sides picking hundred, seven hundred, eight hundred and two hundred and three hundred, he ran devouring the vanaras.
मेदोवसाशोणितदिग्धगात्रःकरायवसक्तग्रथितान्त्रमालः ।

ववर्षशूलानिसतीक्षणदंष्ट्रःकालोयुगान्तस्थइववृद्धः ।।6.67.100।।


मेदोवसाशोणितदिग्धगात्रः limbs smeared with fat and blood, कर्णावसक्तग्रथितान्द्रमालः wreaths of tangled entrails hanging over his ears, सुतीक्षणदंष्ट्रः sharp teeth, युगान्तस्थः like the end of the world, प्रवृद्धः grown in size, कालःइव like the spirit of death, शूलानि pike, ववर्ष rained darts.

His limbs smeared with fat and blood, with wreaths of entrails hanging on his ears, with sharp teeth, grown in his body to huge size, rained darts like the spirit of death at the end of the world.
तस्मिन् कालेसुमित्रायाःपुत्रःपरबलार्दनः ।

चकारलक्ष्मणःक्रुद्धोयुद्धंपरपुरञ्जयः ।।6.67.101।।


तस्मिन् at that, काले time, सुमित्रायाः Sumitra's, पुत्रः son, परबलार्दनः winner of enemy forces, परपुरञ्जयः conqueror of forts, लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, क्रुद्धः enraged, युद्धम् fight, चकार went.

At that time, Sumitra's son, Lakshmana, winner of enemy forces, conqueror of forts, enraged went to fight.
स कुम्भकर्णस्यशरान् शरीरेसप्तवीर्यवान् ।

निचखादाददेचान्यावनिससर्ज च लक्ष्मणः ।।6.67.102।।


वीर्यवान् valiant one, लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, कुम्भकर्णस्य Kumbhakarna's, शरीरे body, सप्त seven, शरान् arrows, निचखान pierced, अन्यान् other, आददे seizing, विससर्ज च discharged.

Valiant Lakshmana pierced seven arrows on Kumbhakarna's body and discharged many arrows on him.
पीड्यमानस्तदस्त्रंतुविशेषंतत्सराक्षसः ।

ततश्चुकोपबलवान्सुमित्रानन्दवर्दनः ।।6.67.103।।


सःराक्षसः that Rakshasa, पीड्यमानः having been tormented, तत् his, तदस्त्रम् dart, विशेषम् put an end ततः there upon, बलवान् mighty, सुमित्रानन्दवर्धनः enhancer of Sumitra's joy, चुकोप flew into rage.

Kumbhakarna having been tormented, put an end to the dart (of Lakshmana). Mighty Lakshmana there upon flew into a rage.
अथास्यकवचंशुभ्रंजाम्भूनदमयंशुभम् ।

प्रच्छादयामासशरैस्सन्ध्याभ्रमिवमारुतः ।।6.67.104।।


अत then, मारुतः wind, सन्ध्याभ्रमिव evening cloud covers, अस्य his, शुभ्रम् glittering, जाम्भूनदमयम् golden, शुभम् charming, कवचम् shield, शरैः with arrows, प्रच्छादयामास covered.

Then he covered Kumbhakarna's glittering golden shield with arrows just as the evening wind covered the cloud.
नीलाञ्जनचयप्रख्यश्शरैःकाञ्चनभूषणैः ।

अपीड्यमानश्शुशुभेमेघैस्सूर्यइवांशुमान् ।।6.67.105।।


काञ्चनभूषणैः adorned with golden ornaments, शरैः darts, अपीड्यमानः not tormented, नीलाञ्जनचयप्रख्यः like dark mountain, मेघैः by clouds, अंशुमान् rays of Sun, सूर्यःइव like Sun, शुशुभे resembled.

Adorned with golden ornaments (Kumbhakarna), covered with darts without being tormented he looked like a dark mountain shining like sun rays covered by clouds.
ततस्सराक्षसोभीमस्सुमित्रानन्दवर्धनम् ।

सावज्ञमेवप्रोवाचवाक्यंमेघौघनिस्स्वनः ।।6.67.106।।


ततः thereupon, भीमः terrific, सःराक्षसः that Rakshasa, मेघौघनिःस्वनः sounding like rumblings of clouds, सावज्ञमेव disdainfully, सुमित्रानन्दवर्धनम् to Lakshmana, son of Sumitra, वाक्यम् words, प्रोवाच spoke.

Thereupon the Rakshasa sounding like the rumblings of clouds disdainfully spoke these words to Lakshmana, the son of Sumitra.
अन्तकस्याप्यकष्टेन युधि जेतारमाहवे ।

युध्यतामामभीतेनख्यापितावीरतात्वया ।।6.67.107।।


युधि in battle, अकष्टेन without difficulty, अन्तकस्यापि even the Lord of Death, जेतारम् conquered, माम् to me, आहवे challenging, युध्ता in battle, अभीतेन without fear, त्वया by you, वीरता valiance, ख्यापिता exhibited.

"You have exhibited your valour without fear in battle, challenging me who has conquered even Lord of Death without difficulty in battle."
प्रगृहीतायुधस्येहमृत्योरिवमहामृधे ।

तिष्ठन्नप्रग्रतःपूज्यःकिमुयुद्धप्रदायकः ।।6.67.108।।


इह here, महामृधे great battle, प्रगृहीतायुधस्य weapon in hand in war, मृत्योरिव like Lord of death, अग्रतः in conflict, तिष्ठन्नपि even ready to face, पूज्यः honourable, युद्धप्रदायकः who gives war, किमु to me.

"He who is ready to face me, a rival of Lord of Death in conflict, with weapons in hand in great battle is worthy of honour to me."
ऐरावतंबलेनसमारूढोवृतःसर्वामरैःप्रभुः ।

नैवशक्रोऽपिसमरेस्थितपूर्वःकदाचन ।।6.67.109।।


ऐरावतम् Airavatham, समारूढः mounted on, सर्वामरैः by all Devatas, वृतः surrounded by, प्रभुः Lord, शक्रोऽपि even Indra, कदाचन indeed, समरे in conflict, स्थितपूर्वः stood, नैव never.

"Indra mounted on the elephant, Airavata surrounded by all Devatas, indeed never stood before me in conflict."
अद्यत्वयाहम्सौमित्रेबालेनापि , नापिपराक्रमैः ।

तोषितोगन्तुमिच्छामित्यामनुज्ञाप्यराघवम् ।।6.67.110।।


सौमित्रे Saumitri, अद्य now, अहम् I, त्वया you, बलेनापिएवेनथोउगः even though young, पराक्रमैः in valour, तोषितः gratified, त्वाम् your, अनुज्ञाप्य taking leave of you, राघवम् Raghava, गन्तुम् to go, इच्छामि wish.

"Now I am gratified with your valour, though young. Taking leave of you, I wish to go to Raghava."
यत्तुवीर्यबलोत्साहैस्तोषितोऽहंरणेत्वया ।

राममेवैकमिच्छामिहन्तुंयस्मिन् हतेहतम् ।।6.67.111।।


वीर्यबलोत्साहैः valour strength and enthusiasm, त्वया of you, अहम् I, यत् that which, रणे battle, तोषितः gratified, यस्मिन् of your, हते in conflict, हतम् to kill, राममेव Rama alone, हन्तुम् will kill, इच्छामि wish.

"I am gratified by your valour, strength and enthusiasm which has been exhibited by you in the battle. However, I wish to kill Rama alone."
रामेमयात्रनिहतेयेऽन्येस्थास्यन्तिसंयुगे ।

तानहंयोधयिष्यामिस्वबलेनप्रमाथिना ।।6.67.112।।


अत्र there, मया by me, रामे Rama, निहते put an end, संयुगे in conflict, अन्ये others, ये whoever, स्थास्यन्ति remains, तान् them, प्रमाथिना striking down, स्वबलेन with my army, अहम् I, योधयिष्यामि to fight.

"When Rama has been put to an end by me in conflict, whoever remains can be struck down by my army."
इत्युक्तवाक्यंतद्रक्षःप्रोवाचस्तुतिसंहितम् ।

मृधेघोरतरंवाक्यंसौमित्रिःप्रहसन्निव ।।6.67.113।।


सौमित्रिः Saumitri, मृद्धे in the battlefield, इति thus, स्तुतिसंहितम् boastful statement, उक्तवाक्यम् spoken, तत् that, रक्षः Rakshasa, प्रहसन्निव laughing heartily, घोरतरम् dreadful, वाक्यम् words, प्रोवाच replied.

When that Rakshasa made such boastful and dreadful statements in the battlefield, laughing heartily, Saumitri replied as follows.
यस्त्वंशक्रादिभिर्वरैरसह्यःप्राप्यपौरुषम् ।

तत्सत्यंनान्यथावीरदृष्टस्तेऽद्यपराक्रमः ।।6.67.114।।

एषदाशरथीरामस्तिष्ठत्यद्रिरिवाचलः ।


वीर hero, यःत्वम् What you, पौरुषम् heroism, प्राप्य acquired, शक्रादिभिः even Indra, वीरैः hero, असह्यः irresistible, तत् that, सर्वम् all, अन्यथा otherwise, न not, सत्यम् true, अद्य now, ते to you, पराक्रमः prowess, दृष्टः witnessing, दाशरथिः Dasharathi, son of Dasaratha, एषःरामः Rama alone, अचलः immovable, अद्रिःइव like mountain, तिष्ठति stands here.

"O Hero! that heroism you have acquired is irresistible even by Indra is true. Now your prowess has been witnessed. Rama stands here, immovable like a mountain."
इतिश्रुत्वाह्यनादृत्यलक्ष्मणं स निशाचरः ।।6.67.115।।

अतिक्रम्य च सौमित्रिंकुम्भकर्णोमहाबलः ।

राममेवाभिदुद्रावकम्पयन्निवमेदिनीम् ।।6.67.116।।


निशाचरः night ranger, महाबलः of mighty strength, सःकुम्भकर्णः he, Kumbhakarna, इति thus, श्रुत्वा hearing, लक्ष्मणम् Lakshmana, अनादृत्य disregarding, सौमित्रिम् Lakshmana, अतिक्रम्य च overlooking, मेदिनम् earth, कम्पयन्निव to shake, राममेव Rama alone, अभिदुद्राव rushed towards.

Kumbhakarna of mighty strength, the night ranger hearing Lakshmana, rather disregarding his words, overlooking him went alone towards Rama as if shaking the earth.
अथदाशरथींरामोरौद्रमस्त्रंप्रयोजयन् ।

कुम्भकर्णस्यहृदयेससर्जनिशितान् शरान् ।।6.67.117।।


अथ now, दाशरथिः Dasaratha's son, रामः Rama, रौद्रम् presided by Rudra, अस्त्रम् weapon, प्रयोजयन् released, कुम्भकर्णस्य Kumbhakarna's, हृदये into the chest, निशितान् sharp, शरान् arrow, ससर्ज fixed.

Sri Rama, son of Dasaratha, now released a sharp arrow presided over by Rudra and fixed into the chest of Kumbhakarna.
तस्यरामेणविद्धस्यसहसाभिप्रधावतः ।

अङ्गालमिश्राःक्रुद्धस्यमुखान्निश्चेरुरर्चिषः ।।6.67.118।।


रामेण by Rama, विद्धस्य hit, सहसा at once, अभिप्रधावतः towards, क्रुद्धस्य in anger, तस्य his, मुखात् mouth, अङ्गारमिश्राः fire mixed with flame, अर्चिषः flames, निश्चेरुः shot forth.

As Rama hit in anger, at once fire mixed with flames shot forth from Kumbhakarna's mouth.
रामास्त्रविद्धोघोरंवैनदन्राक्षसपुङ्गवः ।

अभ्यधावतसङ्कृद्धोहरीन् निद्रावयन् रणे ।।6.67.119।।


रामास्त्रविद्दः pierced by Rama's missiles राक्षसपुङ्गवः foremost of the Rakshasas, घोरम् terrible, नर्दन् sound, हरीन् Vanaras, रणे in battle, विद्रावयन् dispersing them, सङ्कृद्धः very furious, तम् him, अभ्यधावत rushed towards.

Pierced by Rama's missiles, the foremost of the Rakshasas, Kumbhakarna was very angry and rushed towards him dispersing all the vanaras in the battle.
तस्योरसिनिमग्नास्तेशराबर्हिणवाससः ।

हस्ताच्छास्यपरिभ्रष्टागदाचोर्व्यांपपात ह ।।6.67.120।।


बर्हिणवाससः adorned by peacock's plumes, तेशराः those arrows, तस्य his, उरसि breast, निमग्नाः lost senses, अस्य his, हस्तात् from hand, परिभ्रष्टा slipped, गदा mace, उर्व्याम् naturally, पपात ह fallen.

Adorned by peacock's plumes, those arrows slipped into his breast, he lost senses, his mace naturally dropped down from his hand.
आयुधानि च सर्वाणिविप्राकीर्यन्तभूतले ।

स निरायुधमात्मानंयदामेनेमहाबलः ।।6.67.121।।

मुष्टिभ्यां च चरणाभ्यां च चकारकदनंमहत् ।


सर्वाणि all, आयुधानि weapons, भूतले on ground, विप्राकीर्यन्त scattered, महाबलः mighty, सः he, यदा in that, आत्मानम् himself, निरायुधम् deprived of weapons, मेने thought, मुष्टिभ्यां च with fists, चरणाभ्यां च and feet, महत् great, कदनम् senses, चकार created havoc.

All his weapons scattered on the ground, the mighty Kumbhakarna deprived of weapons thought for himself and created havoc with his feet and fists.
स बाणैरतिविद्धाङ्गःक्षतजेनसमुक्षितः ।।6.67.122।।

रुधिरंपरिसुस्रावगिरिःप्रस्रवणंयथा ।


बाणैः arrows, अतिविद्धाङ्गः pierced all over excessively his limbs, क्षतजेन blood produced by injury, समुक्षितः produced from, सः he, गिरिः mountain, प्रस्रवणयथा like pouring, रुधिरम् blood, परिसुस्राव flowed.

Pierced by arrows excessively all over his limbs, bathing in blood flowing from the injury was like a mountain with a spring.
स तीव्रेण च कोपेनरुधिरेण च मूर्छितः ।।6.67.123।।

वानरान्राक्षसानृक्षान्खादन्विपरिधावति ।


सः he, तीव्रेण violent, कोपेन in anger, रुधिरेणच by blood, मूर्छितः intensified, सः he, वानरान् Vanaras, राक्षसान् Rakshasas, ऋक्षान् Bears, खादन् eating, विपरिधावति went about.

Kumbhakarna in violent anger, blood flowing from the injury, went about devouring Vanaras, Rakshasas and bears.
अथशृङ्गंसमाविध्यभीमंभीमपराक्रमः ।

चिक्षेपराममुद्धिश्यबलवानन्तकोपमः ।।6.67.124।।


अथ and then, भीमपराक्रमः endowed with terrific valour, बलवान् strong, अन्तकोपमः like god of death, भीमम् terrible, शृङ्गम् mountain peak, समाविध्य whirling round, रामम् to Rama, उद्धिश्य hurled, चिक्षेप split.

Thereupon, Kumbhakarna endowed with terrific valour like God of Death hurled towards Rama a mountain peak whirling it round which split.
अप्राप्तमन्तरारामःसप्तभिस्तमजिह्मगैः ।

चिच्छेदगिरिशृङ्गंतंपुनःसन्धायकार्मुकम् ।।6.67.125।।


रामः Rama, पुनः again, कार्मुकम् bow, सन्धाय taking, तंगिरिशृङ्गम् that peak of mountain, अप्राप्तम् never failing, सप्तभिः seven, अजिह्मगैः on its way, अन्तरा before it reached, चिच्छेद split.

Rama once again taking the bow, split the peak of the mountain with seven unfailing arrows on its way even before it reached the target.
ततस्तुरामोधर्मात्मातस्यशृङ्गंमहत्तदा ।।6.67.126।।

शरैःकाञ्चनचित्राङ्गैश्चिच्छेदपुरुषर्षभः ।


ततः then, धर्मात्मा righteous, पुरुषर्षभः bull among men, रामः Rama, तदा then, तस्य his, महत् great, शृङ्गमम् peak of mountain, काञ्चनचित्राङ्गैः adorned with gold, शरैः arrows, चिच्छेद split.

The righteous Rama, a bull among men, taking his arrows adorned with gold split the peak of the mountain.
तन्मेरुशिखराकारंद्योतमानमिवश्रिया ।।6.67.127।।

द्वेशतेवानराणां च पतमानमपातयत् ।


श्रिया falling down, द्योतमानमिव shining by the splendour of Kumbhakarna, मेरुशिखराकारम् like peak of Meru, तत् that, पतमानम् falling down, वानराणाम् Vanaras, द्वेशते two hundred, अपातयत् knocked down.

While falling down, Kumbhakarna was like Mount Meru, shining by his splendour was falling down and knocking down two hundred monkeys.
तस्मिन् काले स धर्मात्मालक्ष्मणोराममब्रवीत् ।।6.67.128।।

कुम्भकर्णवधेयुक्तोयोगान् परिमृशन्बहून् ।


तस्मिन् at that, काले time, धर्मात्मा righteous, कुम्भकर्णवधे for killing Kumbhakarna, युक्तः plans, बहून् many, योगान् attentive, परिमृशन् deliberating, लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, रामम् to Rama, अब्रवीत् said.

At that time, righteous Lakshmana who was attentively deliberating on many plans to kill Kumbhakarna, said to Rama.
नैवायंवानरान्राजन्नविजानातिराक्षसान् ।।6.67.129।।

मत्तश्शोणितगन्धे न स्वान् परांश्चैवखादति ।


राजन् king, अयम् this, वानरान् Vanaras, नैवविजानाति not knowing, राक्षसान् Rakshasas, न nor, शोणितगन्धेन smell of blood, मत्तः intoxicated, स्वान् his people, परांश्चव foes, खादते devouring.

"This king intoxicated with the smell of blood is not knowing his own people and foes and devouring both Vanaras and Rakshasas."
साध्वेनमधिरोहस्तुसर्वतोवानरर्षभाः ।।6.67.130।।

यूथपाश्चयथामुख्यास्तिष्ठन्त्वस ।


वानरर्षभाः bull among Vanaras, एनम् on him, साधु proper सर्वतः all over, अधिरोहस्तु climb up, यथामुख्याः foremost like that, यूथपाश्च troops also, अस्य his, समन्ततः all over, तिष्ठन्तु stand.

Let the bulls among Vanaras climb upon him and the foremost of Vanaras and the troops stand all over.
अप्ययंदुर्मतिःकालेगुरुभारप्रपीडितः ।।6.67.131।।

प्रपतन्राक्षसोभूमौनान्यान्हन्यात्ल्पवङ्गमान् ।


अप्ययं minded, राक्षसः Rakshasa, भूमौ on the ground, प्रपत fallen, अन्यान् others, प्लवङ्गमान् monkeys, न हन्यात् not destroy.

Distressed by heavy weight unable to get up evil minded Rakshasa fallen on the ground will not destroy monkeys.
तस्यतद्वचनंश्रुत्वाराजपुत्रस्यधीमतः ।।6.67.132।।

तेसमारुरुहुर्हृष्टाःकुम्भकर्णंप्लवङ्गमाः ।


धीमतः wise, तस्यराजपुत्रस्य that, तत् those, वचनम् words, श्रुत्वा having heard, ते those, प्लवङ्गमाः monkeys, हृष्टाः happily, कुम्भकर्णम् on Kumbhakarna, समारुरुहुः collected.

Having heard the words of the wise Prince, the monkeys collected climbed on Kumbhakarna happily.
कुम्भकर्णस्तुसङ्कृद्धस्समारूढःप्लवङ्गमैः ।।6.67.133।।

व्यधूनयत्तान्वेगेनदुष्टहस्तीवहस्तिपान् ।


प्लवङ्गमैः on monkeys, समारूढः climbed up कुम्भकर्णस्तु on Kumbhakarna, सङ्ककृद्धः very angry, दुष्टहस्ती harsh elephant, हस्तिपान् इव rider, आन् blowing, वेगेन speedily, व्यधूनयत् shook off.

Enraged Kumbhakarna shook off the monkeys climbed on his body like a harsh elephant shakes off its rider.
तान् न्दृष्टवानिर्धुतान्रामोदुष्टोऽयमितिराक्षसः ।।6.67.134।।

समुत्पपातवेगेनधनुरुत्तममाददे ।


रामः Rama, निर्धुतान् shaken off, तान् them, दृष्टवा seeing, अयम् that, दुष्टःइति thus seeing, राक्षसम् towards Rakshasa, वेगेन at speed, समुत्पपात took out, उत्तमम् the best, धनुः bow, आददे went towards.

Seeing the Vanaras shaken, Rama went towards the Rakshasa instantly and took out his best bow.
क्रोधरक्तेक्षणोवीरोनिर्दहन्निवचक्षुषा ।।6.67.135।।

राघवोराक्षसंरोषाभिदुद्राववेगितः ।

यूथपान्हर्षयन्सर्वान्कुम्भकर्णभयार्दितान् ।।6.67.136।।


क्रोधरक्तेक्षणः with eyes turned red in anger, वीरः hero, राघवः Raghava, चक्षुषा with eyes, निर्धयन्निव fallen, रोषात् in anger, वेगितः quickly, कुम्भकर्णभयार्दितान् oppressed by Kumbhakarna, सर्वान् all, यूथपान् troop leaders, हर्षयन् rejoiced, राक्षसम् Rakshasa, अभिदुद्राव went towards.

Raghava's eyes turned red with anger, went quickly in anger as monkeys and troop leaders oppressed by Kumbhakarna were rejoiced.
स चापमादायभुजङ्गकल्पंधृढज्यमुग्रंतपनीयचित्रम् ।

हरीन् समाश्वास्यसमुत्पपातरामोनिबद्धोत्तमतूणबाणः ।।6.67.137।।


सःरामः that Rama, भुजङ्गकल्पम् resembled a great serpent, धृढज्यम् formidable, उग्रम् frightening, तपनीय shining with polished gold चित्रम् beautiful, चापम् bow, आदाय taking, हरीन् , monkey, समाश्वास्य restoring confidence, निबद्धोत्तमतूणबाणः with quiver full of excellent arrows fastened, समुत्पपात went forward.

Rama, taking a formidable bow which resembled a great serpent, with a quiver full of excellent arrows shining in gold that looked beautiful, went forward restoring the confidence of the monkeys.
स वानरगणैस्तैस्तुवृतःपरमदुर्जयः ।

लक्ष्मणानुचरोरामस्सम्प्रतस्थेमहाबलः ।।6.67.138।।


परमदुर्जयः extremely difficult to win over, लक्ष्मणानुचरः followed by Lakshmana, रामः Rama, महाबलः mighty, तु also, तैः both, वानरगणैः Vanara troops, वृतः surrounded by, सम्प्रतस्थे went with full conviction.

स ददर्शमहात्मानंकिरीटिनमरिन्दमम् ।

शोणितावृतरक्ताक्षंकुम्भकर्णंमहाबलम् ।।6.67.139।।


महाबलम् extraordinary might, सः he, महात्मानम् great Rama, किरीटिनम् adorned with crown, अरिन्दमम् tamer of foes, शोणितावृतरक्ताक्षम् covered with blood, and having red eyes, कुम्भकर्णम् Kumbhakarna, ददर्श saw.

Great Rama, endowed with extraordinary might, saw Kumbhakarna, the tamer of enemies covered with blood and having red eyes.
सर्वान् समभिधावन्तंयथारुष्टंदिशागजम् ।

मार्गमाणंहरीन्कक्रुद्धंराक्षसैःपरिवारितम् ।।6.67.140।।


दुष्टम् saw, दिशागजंयथा like elephant guarding the quarter, सर्वान् all, समभिधावन्तम् pursuing, हरीन् for Vanaras, मार्गमाणम् searching, क्रुद्धम् angry, राक्षसैः Rakshasa, परिवारितम् surrounded.

Surrounded by Rakshasas, he was searching for Vanaras, like an elephant, guarding a quarter, searches.
व्निध्यमन्दरसङ्काशंकाञ्चनाङ्गदभूषणम् ।

स्रवन्तंरुधिरंवक्त्राद्वर्षामेघमिवोथतितम् ।।6.67.141।।


व्निध्यमन्दरसङ्काशम् like Vindhya or Mandara, काञ्चनाङ्गदभूषणम् adorned with gold armlets, वक्त्रात् from the mouth, रुधिरम् blood, स्रवन्तम् flowing, उथतितम् ejecting, वर्षामेघामिव like a rain cloud.

(Kumbhakarna) Adorned with gold armlets, blood flowing from his mouth was like a rain cloud showering from Vindhya or Mandara mountain.
जिह्वयापरिलिह्यन्तंसृक्किणीशोणितेक्षणम् ।

मृद्नन्तंवानरानीकंकालान्तकयमोपमम् ।। 6.67.142।।


शोणितेक्षणम् blood red eyes, सृक्किणी corner of the mouth, जिह्वया with tongue, परिलिह्यन्तम् licking, वानरानीकम् Vanara army, मृद्नन्तम् crushing, कालान्तकयमोपमम् resembling god of death at dissolution.

With blood red eyes, licking the corner of his mouth with his tongue, crushing Vanara army, he looked like God of Death at dissolution.
तंदृष्टवाराक्षसश्रेष्ठंप्रदीप्तानलवर्चसम् ।

विस्फारयामासतदाकार्मुकंपुरुषर्षभः ।।6.67.143।।


पुरुषर्षभः bull among men, प्रदीप्तानलतेजसम् shining like fire, तम् him, राक्षसश्रेष्ठम् foremost of Rakshasas, दृष्टवा seeing, तदा then, कार्मुकम् bow. विस्फारयामास stretched.

Seeing the foremost of Rakshasas, shining like fire, Rama, the bull among men stretched his bow.
स तस्यचापनिर्घोषात्कुपितोराक्षसर्षभः ।

अमृष्यमाणस्तंघोषमभिदुद्रावराघवम् ।।6.67.144।।


तस्य his, चापनिर्घोषात् twang of bow, कुपितः enraged, सः he, राक्षसर्षभः bull among Rakshasas, तंघोषम् that loud sound, अमृष्यमाणदु unable to bear, राघवम् Raghava, अभिदुद्राव rushed.

Enraged by the loud sound of the twang of the bow, the bull among Rakshasas unable to bear rushed towards Raghava.
ततस्तुवातोद्धतमेघकल्पंभुजङ्गराजोत्तमभोगबाहुम् ।

तमापतन्तंधरणीराभमुवाचरामोकुम्भकर्णम् ।।6.67.145।।


ततः thereafter, रामः Rama, वातोद्धतमेघकल्पम् like a cloud chased by wind, भजङ्गराजोत्तमभोगबाहुम् one whose hands were like Vasuki's body, धरणीधराभम् mountain like, युधि battlefield, आपतन्तम् coming to attack, कुम्भकर्णम् Kumbhakarna, उवाच spoke.

Thereafter Rama spoke to Kumbhakarna, whose hands were like Vasuki's body, coming towards him to attack on the battlefield like a cloud chased by wind.
आगच्छरक्षोधिपमाविषादमवस्थितोऽहंप्रगृहीतचापः ।

अवेहिमांराक्षसवंशनाशनंयस्त्वंमुहूर्ताद्भविता ।।6.67.146।।


रक्षोधिप Rakshasa king, आगच्छ come, विषादम् despondency, मा to me, अहम् I, प्रगृहीताचापः with bow, अवस्थितः stand, यःत्वम् so that, मुहूर्तात् in a moment, विचेताः destroy, भविता you, माम् by me, राक्षसवंशनाशनम् Rakshasa clan will be destroyed, अवेहि look.

"O king of Rakshasas! Come. Do not be despondent. I stand with my bow. In a moment I will destroy you. Look, the Rakshasa clan will be put to an end."
रामोऽयमितिविज्ञायजहासविकृतस्वनम् ।

अभ्यधावतसङ्ककृद्धोहरीवनिद्रावयन्रणे ।।6.67.147।।


अयम् this, रामःइति this is Rama, विज्ञाय victory, विकृतस्वनम् unnatural sound, जहास laughed, सङ्ककृद्धः great rage, रणे battle, हरीन् monkeys, वित्रासयन् scattered, अभ्यधावत ran after.

Knowing that this is Rama, Kumbhakarna laughed in an unnatural manner making a sound and ran after scattering the monkeys in great rage.
पातयन्निवसर्वेषांहृदयनिवनौकसाम् ।

प्रहस्यविकृतंभीमंसमेघस्न्तितोपमम् ।।6.67.148।।

कुम्भकर्णोमहातेजाराघवंवाक्यमब्रवीत् ।


महातेजाः highly energetic, सःकुम्भकर्णः that Kumbhakarna, सर्वेषाम् all over, वनौकसाम् forest rangers, हृदयानि hearts, दारयन्निव breaking, विकृतम् hideous manner, भीमम् terrific, मेघस्न्तितोपमम् like the rumbling sound of clouds, प्रहस्य laughing, राघवम् Raghava, वाक्यम् words, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Highly energetic Kumbhakarna laughing in hideous ways making sounds like rumblings of clouds breaking the hearts of forest rangers spoke these words.
नाहंविराधोविज्ञेयो न कबन्दःखरो न च ।

न वाली न च मारीचःकुम्भकर्णःसमागतः ।।6.67.149।।


अहम् I am, विराधः Viradha, न विज्ञेयः not Vijeya, कबन्दः Kabhanda, न not, खरः Khara, नच not also, वाली Vali, न not, मारीचः च Maricha also, न not, कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, समागतः have come.

"I am not Viradha, not Vijeya, not Kabhanda, not also Vali or Maricha. I am Kumbhakarna and have come."
पश्यमेमुद्गरंभीमंसर्वकालायसंमहत् ।

अनेननिर्जितादेवादानवाश्चपुरामया ।।6.67.150।।


मे I, सर्वकालायसम् made of wrought iron, भीमम् terrible, महत् great, मुद्गरम् club, पश्य see, अनेन by this, पुरा earlier, देवाः Devas, दानवाश्च Danavas, निर्जिताः won.

"See my terrible club made of wrought iron. By this I have won earlier Devatas and Danavas."
विकर्णवासइतिमांनावज्ञातुंत्वमर्हसि ।

स्वल्पाऽपिहि न मेपीडार्णनासाविनाशनात् ।।6.67.151।।


विकर्णनासःइति that I lost nose and ears, माम् me, त्वम् you, अवज्ञातुम् in contempt, न अर्हसि not look, कर्णनासाविनाशनात् deprived of ears and nose, मे myself, स्वल्पापि not a little, पीडा pained, न हि not have.

"Do not think I have been deprived of ears and nose and look with contempt. I do not have little pain."
दर्शयेक्ष्वाकुशार्दूलवीर्यंगात्रेषुमेलघु ।

ततस्त्वांभक्षयिष्यामिदृष्टपौरुषविक्रमम् ।।6.67.152।।


इक्ष्वाकुशार्दूल tiger of Ikshvaku clan, मे myself, लघुगात्रेषु with, वीर्यम् valour, दर्शय exhibit, ततः that, दृष्टपौरुषविक्रमम् manliness and prowess, त्वाम् of yours, भक्षयिष्यामि will devour you.

"O Tiger of the Ikshvaku clan! Exhibit your manliness, prowess, and valour on me. I will eat you up later."
स कुम्भकर्णस्यवचोनिशम्यरामस्सुपुङ्खान् विससर्जन् ।

तैराहतोवज्रसमवेगैर्नचुक्षुभे न व्यथतेसुरारिः ।।6.67.153।।


सःरामः that Rama, कुम्भकर्णस्य Kumbhakarna's, वचः words, निशम्य bewildered, सपुङ्खान् plumed arrows, बाणान् arrows, विससर्ज discharged, वज्रसमवेगैः at the speed of thunderbolt, तैः those, आहतः having been struck, सुरारिः enemy of Devatas, न चुक्षुभे न व्यथते not shaken or agonized.

On hearing Kumbhakarna's words Rama was bewildered. He discharged plumed arrows at a speed of thunderbolt. Struck by the arrows the enemy of Devatas was not shaken or agonized.
यैस्सायकैस्सालवरानिकृत्तावालीहतोवानरपुङ्गवश्च ।

तेकुम्भकर्णस्यतदाशरीरंवज्रोपमं न व्यधयांप्रचक्रुः ।।6.67.154।।


यैः by that, सायकैः arrows, सालवराः Sala trees, निकृत्ताः cut down, वानरपुङ्गवः Vanara leaders, वाली च Vali also, हतः struck, ते that, तदा then, वज्रोपमम् like thunderbolt, कुम्भकर्णस्यशरीरम् Kumbhakarna's body, न व्यधयांप्रचक्रुः not able to affect him.

Those arrows which had cut down the Sala trees and the Vanara leader, Vali, which were like thunderbolts, did not affect Kumbhakarna's body.
स वारिधाराइवसायकास्तान् पिबन् शरीरेणमहेन्द्रशत्रुः ।

जघानरामस्यशरप्रवेगंव्याविध्यतंमुग्रवेगम् ।।6.67.155।।


तान् those, सायकान् arrows, वारिधाराःइव like torrents of water, शरीरेण into the body, पिबन् drank, सः he, महेन्द्रशत्रुः enemy of Lord Indra, उग्रवेगम् at great speed, तम् that, मुद्गरम् club, व्याविध्य whirling round, रामस्य Rama's, शरप्रवेगम् speed of arrows, जगाम arrested.

The enemy of Lord Indra drank the arrows through his body and hurled his club at great speed whirling it round and round arrested the arrows of Rama.
ततस्तुरक्षःक्षतजावलिप्तंवित्रासनंदेवमहचमूनाम् ।

व्याविध्यतंमुद्गरमुग्रवेगंनिद्रावयामासचमूंम् ।।6.67.156।।


ततः then, रक्षः Rakshasa, क्षतजावलिप्तम् covered with cuts and wounds, देवमहाचमूनाम् frightening even to the mighty celestials, वित्रासनम् covered with blood, उग्रवेगम् at high speed, तंमुद्गरम् that club, व्याविध्य scattered, हरीणाम् monkeys, चमूम् , विद्रावयामास with the club.

Then Kumbhakarna with his club covered with blood and frightening even the celestials scattered the monkeys.
वायव्यमादायततोमहास्त्रंरामःप्रचिक्षेपनिशाचराय ।

समुद्गरंतेनजघानबाहुं स कृत्तबाहुस्तुमुलंनाद ।।6.67.157।।


ततः there upon, रामः Rama, वायव्यम् wind god, महास्त्रम् weapon, आदाय taking निशाचराय night ranger, प्रचिक्षेप severed, तेन his, समुद्गरम् with the mace, बाहुम् from arm, जघान torn, कृत्तबाहुः arm cut off, सः he, तुमुलम् uproarious, ननाद noise.

Thereupon taking up the weapon of Wind God, Rama discharged on the night ranger and severed his right arm with the mace. His arm torn off, Kumbhakarna made uproarious noise.
स तस्यबाहुर्गिरिशृङ्गकल्पःसमुद्गरोराघवबाणकृत्तः ।

पपाततस्मिन् हरिराजसैन्येजघानतांवानरवाहिनीं ।।6.17.158।।


गिरिशृङ्गकल्पः mountain peak, समुद्गरः that mace, राघवबाणकृत्तः by Raghava's arrow, सः he, तस्यबाहुः his arm, तस्मिन् by this, हरिराजसैन्ये monkey king's army, पपात fell, ताम् them, हरिवाहिनीं च Vanara army too, जघान killed.

Kumbhakarna's arm severed by Rama's arrow was like a mountain peak. It fell on Vanara army too and killed the monkey king's army.
तेवानराभग्नहतावशेषाःपर्यन्तमाश्रित्यतदाविषण्णाः ।

प्रपीडिताङ्गाददृशुस्सुघोरंनरेन्द्ररक्षोधिपन्निपातम् ।।6.67.159।।


तदा then, भग्नहतावशेषाः Vanaras who escaped from getting killed and mutilated, तेवानराः those Vanaras, प्रपीडिताङ्गाः feeling desperate, विषण्णाः terrible, पर्यन्तम् close, आश्रित्य going, सुघोरम् dreadful, नरेन्द्ररक्षोधिपसन्निपातम् between Kumbhakarna and Rama, ददृशुः witnessed.

Then the remaining Vanaras who escaped killing and mutilation went close feeling desperate and witnessed the comb at between Rama and Kumbhakarna.
स कुम्भकर्णोऽस्त्रनिकृत्तबाहुर्महासिकृत्ताग्रइवाचलेन्द्रः ।

उत्पाटयामासकरेणवृक्षंततोऽभिदुद्रावरणेनरेन्द्रम् ।।6.67.160।।


अस्त्रनिकृत्तबाहुः arm cut off by arrow, महासिना like peak cut off, कृत्ताग्रः deprived of limb, अचलेन्द्रःइव like a mountain, सः he कुम्भकर्णः Kumbhakarna, करेण Palmyra, वृक्षम् tree, उत्पाटयमास seized, ततः thereafter, रणे battle, नरेन्द्रम् king, अभिदुद्राव went towards.

One arm cut off, Kumbhakarna deprived of limb looked like a mountain with peak cut off. Thereafter he seized a palmyra tree and went towards Rama.
स तस्यबाहुंसहतालवृक्षंसमुद्यतंपन्नगभोगकल्पम् ।

इन्द्रास्त्रयुक्तेनजघानरामोबाणेनजाम्भूनदचित्रितेन ।।6.67.161।।


सःरामः that Rama, इन्द्रास्त्रयुक्तेन yoking bow charged with Indra's mantra, जाम्भूनदचित्रितेन decked with gold, बाणेन arrow, तस्य of his, पन्नगभोगकल्पम् like coils of serpent, समुद्यतम् held, सतालवृक्षम् the Palmyra tree, बाहुम् arms, जघान severed.

Then Rama yoking his bow with an arrow charged with Indra's mantra and decked with gold severed Kumbhakarna's arm which was like coils of serpent and held the palmyra tree.
स कुम्भकर्णस्यभुजोनिकृत्तःपपातभूमौगिरिसन्निकाशः ।

विवेष्टमानोनिजाघनवृक्षान् शैलान्शिलावानरराक्षसांश्च ।।6.67.162।।


कुम्भकर्णस्य Kumbhakarna's, गिरिसन्निकाशः resembled a mountain, सःभुजः that arm, निकृत्तः severed, भूमौ on ground, पपात fell, विवेष्टमानाः turning round and round, वृक्षान् trees, शैलान् mountains, शिलावानरराक्षसांश्च mountains, Vanaras and Rakshasas, निजघान crushed.

Kumbhakarna who resembled a mountain, his arm severed turning round and round fell on trees, mountains, Vanaras and Rakshasas crushing them.
तंछिन्नबाहुंसमवेक्ष्यरामःसमापतन्तंसहसानदन्तम् ।

द्वावर्धचन्द्रौनिशितौप्रगृह्यचिच्छेदपादौयुधिराक्षसस्य ।।6.67.163।।


रामः Rama, छिन्नबाहुम् with broken arms, सहसा rushing, समापतन्तम् towards, तम् him, समवेक्ष्य perceiving, युधि combat, द्वौ at once, निशितौ sharp, अर्धचन्द्रौ moon shaped, प्रगृह्य taking, राक्षसस्य Rakshasa's, पादौ feet, चिच्छेद split.

Perceiving Kumbhakarna with broken arms rushing towards him, Rama at once took a sharp moon shaped arrow and split his feet.
तौतस्यपादौप्रदिशोदिशश्चगिरेर्गुहाश्चैवमहार्णवं च ।

लङ्कां च सेनांकपिराक्षसानांविनादयन्तौविनिपेततुश्च ।।6.67.164।।


तस्य his, तौ both, पादौ feet, प्रदिशः quarters, दिशश्च directions, गिरेः mountains, गुहाश्चैव even caves of Trikuta too, महार्णवंच great ocean also, लङ्कां च Lanka also, कपिराक्षसानाम् even the Vanaras and Rakshasas, सेनाम् army, विनादयन्तौ resounded, विनिपेततुश्च filled all over.

Both the feet falling on ground made a resounding noise that filled all over the four quarters, all directions, nay all mountains and caves of Trikuta and also Lanka.
निकृत्तबाहुद्विनिकृत्तपादोविदार्यवक्त्रंबडबामुखाभम् ।

दुद्रावरामंसहसाभिगर्जन् राहुर्यथाचन्द्रमिवान्तऽरिक्षे ।।6.67.165।।


निकृत्तबाहुः arms broken, विनिकृत्तपादः feet cut off, वदनामुखाभम् like fire, वक्त्रम् mouth, विदार्य enlarging, अभिगर्जन् shouting, अन्तरिक्षे sky, राहुर्यथा like Rahu, चन्द्रमिव capturing moon, सहसा rushed, रामम् to Rama, दुद्राव speedily.

Arms broken, feet cut off, dilating his mouth like fire, shouting aloud like Rahu entering moon in the sky he rushed to Rama speedily.
अपूरयत्तस्यमुखंशिताग्रैरामश्शरैर्हेमपिनद्धपुङ्खैः ।

स पूर्णवक्त्रो न शशाकवक्तुंचुकूजकृच्छ्रेणमुमूर्छचापि ।।6.67.166।।


रामः Rama, शिताग्रैः sharp pointed, हेमपिनद्धपुङ्खैः gold encrusted, शरैः shafts, तस्य his, मुखम् mouth, अपूरयत् filled, सः he, पूर्णवक्त्रः mouth fully, वक्तुम् mouth, न शशाक not able to speak, कृच्छ्रेण moaned, चुकूज shouted, मुमूर्छचापि fainted.

Rama filled the mouth of Kumbhakarna with his sharp and pointed gold encrusted arrows. Unable to speak the Rakshasa moaned and fainted.
अथाददेसूर्यमरीचिकल्पं स ब्रह्मदण्डान्तककाकलकल्पम् ।

अरिष्टमैन्द्रंनिशितंसुपुङ्खंरामश्शरंमारुततुल्यवेगम् ।।6.67.167।।


अथ and then, सःरामः that Rama, सूर्यमरीचिकल्पम् effulgent as sunbeam with feathers, ब्रह्मदण्डान्तककालकल्पम् rod of Brahma and the Time spirit, अरिष्टम् destructive, निशितम् sharp, सुपुङ्खम् fatal to the enemies, मारुततुल्यवेगम् fast as the wind, ऐन्द्रंशरम् Indra's arrow charged with mantra, आददे took.

Then Rama took up the effulgent sun beam like arrow with feathers and the destructive rod of Brahma and the Time spirit that was fatal to enemies that was fast as wind speed and charged with Indra's mantra.
तंवज्रजाम्भूनदचारुपुङ्खंप्रदीप्तसूर्यज्वलनप्रकाशम् ।

महेन्द्रवज्राशनितुल्यवेगंरामःप्रचिक्षेपनिशाचराय ।।6.67.168।।


वज्रजाम्भूनदचारुपुङ्खम् arrow encrusted with diamonds and gold, प्रदीप्तसूर्यज्वलनप्रकाशम् glowing like sun's rays and fire, महेन्द्रवज्राशनितुल्यवेगम् resembled Indra's thunderbolt in speed, तम् that, रामः Rama, निशाचराय night ranger, प्रचिक्षेप crushed to pieces.

Rama crushed the night ranger to pieces with his arrow encrusted with diamonds and gold, glowing like the Sun 's rays and fire which resembled Indra's thunderbolt, in speed.
स सायकोराघवबाहुचोदितोदिशस्स्वभासादशसम्प्रकाशयन् ।

विधूमवैश्वानरभीमदर्शनोजगामशक्राशनिवीर्यविक्रमः ।।6.67.169।।


राघवबाहुचोदितः discharged from Rama's arm, विधूमवैश्वानरभीमदर्शनः terrific just as Vritasura's head was cut off by Indra, the Lord of gods, शक्राशनिवीर्यविक्रमः which was like Indra's thunderbolt, सःसायकः like burning fire, स्वभासा by its brilliance, दश ten, दिशः directions, प्रकाशयन् shining, जगाम went.

Discharged from Rama's arm, the terrific weapon went just as the Lord of god's weapon, which was like Indra's thunderbolt burning like fire, shining by its brilliance and went in all directions and cut the head of Vritasura.
स तन्महापर्वतकूटसन्निभंविवृत्तदंष्ट्रंचलचारुकुण्डलम् ।

चकर्तरक्षोधिपतेश्शिरस्तदायथैववृत्रस्यपुरापुरन्दरः ।।6.67.170।।


सः that, महापर्वतकूटसन्निभम् lofty peak of a mountain, विवृत्तदंष्ट्रम् distinguished by large pointed teeth, चलचारुकुण्डलम् shaking ear rings, रक्षोधिपतेः Rakshasa king, शिरः head, तदा then, पुरा earlier, पुरन्दरः Indra, वृत्रस्य Vritasya, यतैव like that, चकर्त severed.

The arrow (of Rama) severed the head of Rakshasa king whose body was like a lofty mountain peak, whose teeth were large and protruded, hanging earrings shaking, just as Indra severed the head of Vritasura earlier.
कुम्भकर्णशिरोभातिकुण्डलालङ्कृतंमहत् ।

आदित्येऽभ्युदितेरात्रौमध्यस्थइवचन्द्रमाः ।।6.67.171।।


कुण्डलालङ्कृतम् adorned with earrings, महत् huge, कुम्भकर्णशिरः head of Kumbhakarna, रात्रौ night, आदित्ये by Aditi, उदिते risen, मध्यस्थः in the middle, चन्द्रमाःइव like the moon, भाति shone.

The huge head of Kumbhakarna adorned with earrings was like the moon rising between the stars in the heaven at night presided by Aditi, the mother of twin gods.
तद्रामबाणाभिहतंपपातरक्षःशिरःपर्वतसन्निकाशम् ।

बभञ्जचर्यागृहगोपुराणिप्राकारमुच्चंतमपातयच्च ।।6.67.172।।


रामबाणाभिहतम् killed by Rama's arrow, तत् that, पर्वतसन्निकाशम् like a mountain, रक्षः Rakshasa शिरः head, पापत fallen, चर्यागृहगोपुराणि homes and peaks of buildings, बभञ्ज demolished, उच्चम् tall, तम् they, प्राकारम् defensive walls, अपातयच्च fell down broken.

Killed by Rama's arrow, that head of the Rakshasa, which was like a mountain had demolished the walls and houses and peaks of buildings.
तच्चातिकायंहिमहत्प्रकाशंरक्षस्तदातोयनिधौपपात ।

ग्राहान्परान् मीनवरान्भुजङ्गान् ममर्दभूमिच तदाविवेश ।।6.67.173।।


तदा then, अतिकायम् huge body, महत्प्रकाशम् highly shining, तत् that रक्षः Rakshasa, तोयनिधौ ocean, पपात fell, परान् other, ग्राहान् alligators, मीनवरान् fish, भुजङ्गमान् serpents, ममर्द crushed, तथा in the same way, भूमिम् into the earth, विवेश entered.

The shining huge body of Rakshasa fell into the ocean crushing the other beings in the ocean like alligators, fishes and serpents that entered into the earth.
तस्मिन्हतेब्राह्मणदेवशत्रौमहाबलेसंयतिकुम्भकर्णे ।

चचालभूर्भूमिधराश्चसर्वेहर्षाच्चदेवास्तुमुलंविनेदुः ।।6.67.174।।


ब्राह्मणदेवशत्रौ the enemy of Brahmans and Devatas, महाबले mighty, तस्मिन् his, कुम्भकर्णे Kumbhakarna, संयति having died, हते killed, भूः earth, चचाल mountains, सर्वे all, भूमिधराश्च god of earth, देवाः च Devatas, हर्षात् rejoiced, तुमुलम् highly, विनेदुः uproar.

Kumbhakarna, the enemy of Brahmans and Devatas, having been killed, the Earth, all mountains, Devatas highly rejoiced.
ततस्तुदेवर्षिमहर्षिपन्नगाःसुराश्चभूतानिसुपर्णगुह्यकाः ।

सयक्षगन्धर्वगणानभोगताःप्रहर्षितारामपराक्रमेण ।।6.67.175।।


ततः thereafter, देवर्षिमहर्षिपन्नगाः celestial sages and sages, as well as serpents, सुराश्च Devatas, भूतानि all beings, सुपर्णगुह्यकाः eagles and Guhyakas, सयक्षगन्धर्वगणाः Yaksha, Gandharvas, नभोगताः highly rejoiced, रामपराक्रमेण by Rama's valour, सन्तोषिताः rejoiced very much.

Thereafter the celestial sages and other sages, serpents, Devatas and all beings including eagles and Guhyakas (airborne animals), Yakshas and Gandharvas rejoiced very much at Rama's valour.
ततस्तुतेतस्यवधेनभूरिणामनस्विनोनैरृतराजबान्धवाः ।

विनेदुरुच्चैर्व्यथितारघूत्तमंहरिंसमीक्ष्यैवयथासुरार्धिताः ।।6.67.176।।


ततः thereupon, नैरृतराजबान्दवाः courageous kinsfolk of Ravana, भूरिणा pained, मनस्विनः resolute in mind, तस्य वधेन by his death, व्यथिताः feared हरिम् elephants, समीक्ष्यैव seeing that, सुरार्धिताः यथा like the lord of Devatas, रघूत्तमम् foremost of Raghu's , उच्छैः emitted, विनेदुः loud cries

Thereupon, the courageous kinsfolk of Ravana, resolute in mind, pained by the death of Kumbhakarna, feared the foremost of Raghus, just as elephants feared seeing the Lord of Devatas, and emitted loud cries.
स देवलोकस्यतमोनिहत्यसूर्योयथाराहुमुखाद्विमुक्तः ।

तथाव्यभासीद्धरिसैन्यमध्येनिहत्यरामोयुधिकुम्भकर्णम् ।।6.67.177।।


सःरामः Rama, युधि in combat, कुम्भकर्णम् Kumbhakarna, निहत्य having killed, राहुमुखात् Rahu's mouth, विमुक्तः liberated, सूर्यःतमः sun like, निहत्य killed, देवलोकस्य from the abode of Devatas, यथा that way, तथा like that, हरिसैन्यमध्ये in the midst of Vanara army, व्यभासीत् shone brilliantly.

Having killed Kumbhakarna, in the combat, Rama shone brilliantly just as Sun liberated from Rahu's mouth, after dispersing the darkness of the abode of Devatas.
प्रहर्षमीयुर्भवश्चवानराःप्रबुद्धपद्मप्रतिमैरिवाननैः ।

अपूजयन् राघवमिष्टभागिनंहतेरिसौभीमबलेदुरासदम् ।।6.67.178।।


बहवः many, वानराः Vanaras, प्रबुद्धपद्मप्रतिमैःइव resembling full blown lotuses, आननैः faces, प्रहर्षम् laughing, ईयुः experienced, भीमबले terrific strength, रिपौ enemy, हते killed, इष्टनाषिनम् got rid of, दुरासदम् enemy, राघवम् Raghava, अपूजयन् worshipped.

Many Vanaras, with their faces resembling full blown lotuses joyfully laughed and worshipped Rama for getting rid of an enemy of terrific strength.
स कुम्भकर्णंसुरसैन्यमर्धनम् महत्सुयुद्धेषुकदाचनाजितम् ।

नन्दहत्वाभरताग्रजोरणेमहासुरंवृत्रमिवामराधिपः ।।6.67.179।।


सःभरताग्रजः That Bharata's brother, सुरसैन्यमर्दनम् destroyer of celestial armies, महत्सु great, युद्धेषु battles, कदाचन indeed, अजितम् never conquered, कुम्भकर्णम् Kumbhakarna, अमराधिपः Lord of the heaven, महासुरम् of great Devatas, वृत्रम् इव surrounded in circle, रणे in combat, हत्वा killed, ननन्द roared in joy.

Sri Rama the brother of Bharata, the destroyer of celestial armies who had never been conquered in combat as Indra, the Lord of the heavens. Seeing that the Vanaras surrounded and roared in great joy at the death of Kumbhakarna.
