[Kumbhakarna's terrific encounter with Sri Rama. Kumbhakarna's death in the hands of Sri Rama.]

tēnivṛttāmahākāyāśśrutvāṅgadavacastadā .

naiṣṭhikīṅbuddhimāsthāyasarvēsaṅgrāmakāṅkṣiṇaḥ ।।6.67.1।।

tadā then, aṅgadavacaḥ Angada's words, śrutvā having heard, nivṛttāḥ death, mahākāyāḥ of huge body, sarvē all, tē they, naiṣṭhikīm decided, buddhim realising, āsthāya returned, saṅgrāmakāṅkṣiṇaḥ who desired to wage war.

Having heard Angada's words, the Vanaras of gigantic body firmly decided to wage war and returned back.

samudīritavīryāstēsamārōpitavikramāḥ .

paryavasthāpitāvākyairaṅgadēnavalīmukhāḥ ।।6.67.2।।

prayātāścagatāharṣaṅmaraṇēkṛtaścayāḥ .

cakrussutumulaṅyuddhaṅvānarāstyaktajīvitāḥ ।।6.67.3।।

samudīritavīryāḥ leaders reminded of their valour, samārōpitavikramāḥ valiant in war, valīmukhāḥ returned, aṅgadēna by Angada, vākyaiḥ words, paryavasthāpitāḥ reminded of their valour, tēvānarāḥ The Vanaras, harṣam gladly, gatāḥ came, maraṇē at death, kṛtaścayāḥ resolved, prayātāḥ restrained, tyaktajīvitāḥ staked their life, sutumalam fierce, yuddham battle, cakruḥ carried on.

The Vanara leaders, having been reminded of their valour in battle by Angada gladly returned with a resolve to stake their life and carried on the battle.

athavṛkṣānmahākāyāssānūnisumahānti ca .

vānarāstūrṇamudyamyakumbhakarṇamabhidrutāḥ ।।6.67.4।।

atha and then, mahākāyāḥ endowed with huge body, vānarāḥ Vanaras, vṛkṣān trees, sumahānti huge size, sānūni mountain peaks, udyamya taking hold, tūrṇam quickly, kumbhakarṇam Kumbhakarna, abhidrutāḥ rushed towards.

Thereafter the Vanaras of huge body wielding huge trees and mountain peaks quickly rushed towards Kumbhakarna.

kumbhakarṇassaṅkṛddhōgadāmudyamyavīryavān .

arthayansamahākāyassamantād vyakṣipadripūn ।।6.67.5।।

mahākāyaḥ possessing huge body, vīryavān valiant one, kumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, susaṅkṛddhaḥ highly enraged, gadām mace, udyamya lifted , ardhayan crescent shaped arrow, ripūn enemies, samantāt all sides, vyakṣipat struck.

Valiant Kumbhakarna, a gigantic one, highly enraged lifted mace and crescent shaped arrow struck the enemies on all sides.

śatānisaptacāṣṭau ca sahasrāṇi ca vānarāḥ .

prakīrṇāḥśēratēbhūmaukumbhakarṇēnapōdhitāḥ ।।6.67.6।।

sapta seven, aṣṭau ca eight, śatāni even hundred, sahasrāṇi ca thousand, vānarāḥ Vanara, kumbhakarṇēna by Kumbhakarna, pōdhitāḥ folding in arms, prakīrṇāḥ threw, bhūmau on the ground, śēratē serpents.

Kumbhakarna held seven or eight or even hundred, thousand vanaras and threw them on the ground like serpents thrown by Garuda.

ṣōḍaśāṣṭau ca daśa ca viṅśatratiṅśastathaiva ca .

parikṣipya ca bāhubhyāṅkhādanviparidhāvati ।।6.67.7।।

bhakṣyan bhṛśasaṅkruddhōgaruḍaḥpannagāniva .

bhṛśaḥsaṅkruddhaḥ extremely angry, ṣōḍaśa sixteen, aṣṭau ca eight, daśa ca ten also, tathaiva in the same way, viṅśat ninety nine, triṅśat thirty, bāhubhyām many more, parikṣipya holding around, khādan devouring, pannagān serpents, bhakṣyan eating, garuḍaḥiva like Garuda, paridhāvati went about.

Kumbhakarna became extremely angry, and caught hold of sixteen, eight, ten vanaras in the same way ninety-nine and thirty and many more Vanaras and devoured them and went about like Garuda after having eaten the serpents.

kṛcchrēṇacasamāśvastāḥsaṅgamyacatatastataḥ ।।6.67.8।।

vṛkṣādrihastāharayastasthussaṅgrāmamūrthani .

harayaḥ Vanaras, kṛcchrēṇa with difficulty, samāśvastāḥ restoring confidence, tatastataḥ here and there, saṅgamya ca collected together, vṛkṣādrihastāḥ wielding trees and mountains in hand, saṅgrāmamūrthani forefront of battle, tasthuḥ stood.

The Vanaras collected from here and there, having restored confidence in themselves with great difficulty, held trees and mountains and stood in the forefront of the battle.

tataḥparvatamutpāṭyadvividaḥplavagarṣabhaḥ ।।6.67.9।।

dudrāvagiriśṛṅgābhaṅvilambaivatōyadaḥ .

tataḥ thereafter, plavagarṣabhaḥ bull among Vanaras, dvividaḥ Dwivida, parvatam mountain, utpāṭya lifting, vilamba threatening, tōyadaḥiva resembling cloud. giriśṛṅgābham like mountain peak, dudrāva went towards.

Thereafter Dwivida, a bull among the Vanaras lifted a mountain and went towards Kumbhakarna who resembled a threatening cloud.

taṅsamutpatyacikṣēpakumbhakarṇāyavānaraḥ ।।6.67.10।।

tamaprāpyamahākāyaṅtasyasainyē.patattadhā .

vānaraḥ Vanara, samutpatya reaching near, tam him, kumbhakarṇāya Kumbhakarna, cikṣēpa struck, mahākāyam of huge body, tam him, aprāpya missing the target, tadhā like that, tasya his, sainyē army, apatat fell on.

Vanara (Dwivida) going near Kumbhakarna struck him with the mountain. He missed the target and it fell on his army.

mamardāśvāngajāṅścāpirathāṅścāpinagōttamaḥ ।।6.67.11।।

tānicānyānirakṣāṅsiēvaṅcānyagadirēḥśiraḥ .

nagōttamaḥ huge mountain, aśvān on horses, gajāṅścāpi crushed elephants, rathāṅścāpi and also chariots, mamardha crushed, anyat other, girēḥśiraḥ top of the mountain, tāni by that, anyāni other, rakṣāṅsi Rakshasas also.

The huge mountain peak crushed the horses, elephants and chariots and Rakshasa charioteers also.

taccailavēgābhihataṅhatāśvaṅhatasārathi ।।6.67.12।।

rakṣasāṅrudhiraklinnaṅbabhūvāyōdhanaṅmahat .

rakṣasām Rakshasas, mahat great, ayōdhanam battlefield, tacchailavēgābhihatam by the speed of the mountain, hatāśvam horses crushed, hatasārathi charioteers dead, rudhiraklinnam blood flowed, babhūva remained wet.

The battlefield on which the Rakshasas and horses were crushed, charioteers were killed by the speed of the mountain remained wet with blood.

rathinōvānarēndrāṇāṅśaraiḥkālāntakōpamaiḥ ।।6.67.13।।

śirāṅsinardatāṅjahrussahasābhīmanissvanā .

bhīmaniḥsvanā emitting frightening sounds, rathinaḥ charioteers, kālāntakōpamaiḥ deadly like the Lord of death at the time of universal dissolution, śaraiḥ arrows, sahasā forcibly, nardatām roaring, vānarēndrāṇām Vanara leaders, śirāṅsi heads, jahruḥ severed.

The Rakshasa charioteers severed the roaring Vanara leaders forcibly with their arrows emitting frightening sounds. They were like the Lord of Death at universal dissolution.

vānarāścamahātmānassamutpāṭyamahādrumān ।।6.67.14।।

rathāvaśvāngajānuṣṭrānrākṣasānabhyasūdayan .

mahātmānaḥ great, vānarāśca Vanaras, mahādrumān huge trees, samutpāṭya uprooting, rathān chariots, aśvān horses, uṣṭrān camels, rākṣasān Rakshasas, abhyasūdayan began to destroy.

Great monkeys, uprooting huge trees, began to destroy chariots, horses, camels, and Rakshasas.

hanumān śailaśṛṅgāṇiśilāścavividhān drumān ।।6.67.15।।

vavarṣakumbhakarṇasyaśirasyambaramāsthitaḥ .

hanūmān Hanuman, ambaram sky, āsthitaḥ stationed, kumbhakarṇasya Kumbhakarna's, śirasi on the head, śailaśṛṅgāṇi mountain peaks, śilāśca rocks, vividhān several, drumān kinds of trees, vavarṣarained.

Stationed in the sky Hanuman rained mountain peaks, rocks, and huge trees of several kinds on the head of Kumbhakarna.

tāniparvataśṛṅgāṇiśūlēna sa bibhēda ha ।।6.67.16।।

babhañjavṛkṣavarṣaṅ ca kumbhakarṇōmahābalaḥ .

mahābalaḥ mighty, kumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, śūlēna those rocks, tāni them, parvataśṛṅgāṇi mountain peaks, bibhēda ha breaking, vṛkṣavarṣaṅ ca rain of trees, babhañja split off.

Mighty Kumbhakarna split off the rocks, mountain peaks and the trees breaking them.

tatōharīṇāṅtadanīkamugraṅdudrāvaśūlaṅniśitaṅpragṛhya .

tasthau sa tasyāpatataḥpurastānmahīdharāgraṅhanumān pragṛhya ।।6.67.17।।

tataḥ thereafter, ugram sharp, śūlam pike, pragṛhya holding, harīṇām Vanaras, ugram sharp, tat that, abhīkam rushed, dudrāva uprooted, hanumān Hanuman, mahīdharāgram mountain peak, pragṛhya seizing, āpatataḥ obstructed, tasya its, purastāt before, tasthau him.

Thereafter Kumbhakarna holding a sharp pike rushed towards Hanuman who uprooted a mountain peak and obstructed him placing it before him.

sa kumbhakarṇaṅkupitōjaghānavēgēnaśailōttamabhīmakāyam .

sa cakṣubhētēnatadābhibhūtōmēdārdragātrōrudhirāvasiktaḥ ।।6.67.18।।

kupitaḥ enraged, saḥ he, śailōttamabhīmakāyam rock like frightening body, kumbhakarṇam Kumbhakarna, vēgēna swiftly, jaghāna struck, tadā then, tēna by that, abhibhūtaḥ overpo were d, saḥ he, mēdārdragātraḥ bespattered with fat, rudirāvasiktaḥ bathed in blood, sacakṣubhē upset.

Enraged Hanuman struck Kumbhakarna endowed with a rock like frightening body. Overpowered by that blow Kumbhakarna was upset and bespattered with fat and got bathed in blood.

sa śūlamāsādyataṭitprakāśaṅgiriryathāprajvalitāgraśṛṅgam .

bāhvantarēmārutimājaghānaguhō.calaṅkrauñcamivōgraśaktyā ।।6.67.19।।

saḥ that, giriḥ mountain, prajvalitāgraśṛṅgaṅyathā like a blazing peak, taḍitprakāśam shining like lightning, śūlam pike, āvidhya pierced, guhaḥ as Guha (son of Lord Siva), ugraśaktyā formidable, krauñcam acalamiva like the Krauncha mountain, mārutim at Maruti, bāhvantarē in between shoulders, the breast, ājaghāna struck.

Kumbhakarna ,who was like a mountain blazing like fire, pierced at Maruti's chest with his pike shining like lightning just as Guha struck at Krauncha mountain.

śūlanirbhinnamahābhujāntaraḥpravihvalaḥśōṇitamudvaman mukhāt .

nanādabhīmaṅhanumān mahāhavēyugāntamēghasntitasvanōpamam ।।6.67.20।।

mahāhavē great son of wind-god, śūlanirbhinnamahābhujāntaraḥ being pierced with pike in the chest, saḥhanūmān that Hanuman, pravihvalaḥ ejecting, mukhāt from his mouth, śōṇitam blood, udvaman came out, yugāntamēghasntitasvanōpamam thunder rumblings at dissolution of the universe, bhīmam frightening, nanāda roar.

The great son of wind-god, pierced with pike in the chest, ejected blood from his mouth, and roared in a frightening manner which was like thunder rumbling at the time of dissolution of the universe.

tatōvinēduḥsahasāprahṛṣṭārakṣōgaṇāstaṅvyathitaṅsamīkṣya .

plavaṅgamāstuvyathitābhayartāḥpradudruvuḥsaṅyatikumbhakarṇāt ।।6.67.21।।

tataḥ then, rakṣōgaṇāḥ Rakshasa army, vyathitam agonized tam his, samīkṣya perceiving, prahṛṣṭāḥ happy, sahasā collected, vinēduḥ rejoiced, plavaṅgamāstu for Vanaras, vyathitāḥ. frightened, bhayārtāḥ in fear, saṅyati , kumbhakarṇāt Kumbhakarna's, pradudruvuḥ fled.

Rakshasa's army collected together rejoiced to see Hanuman agonized. Vanaras were frightened and fled in fear of Kumbhakarna.

tatastunīlōbalavān paryavasthāpayanbalam .

pravicikṣēpaśailāgraṅkumbhakarṇāyadhīmatē ।।6.67.22।।

tataḥ thereafter, balavān endowed with strength, nīlaḥ Neela, balam army, paryavasthāpayan restoring the army, dhīmatē wise one, kumbhakarṇāya Kumbhakarna, śailāgram with peak of a mountain, pravicikṣēpa flung.

The mighty and wise Neela flung a peak of a mountain on Kumbhakarna and restored the confidence of the army.

tadāpatantaṅsamprēkṣyamuṣṭinābhijaghāna ha .

muṣṭiprahārābhihataṅtacchailāgraṅvyaśīryata ।।6.67.23।।

savisphuliṅgaṅsajvālanipapātamahētalē .

tadā after that, āpatantam coming towards, samprēkṣya observing, muṣṭinā with fist, abhijaghāna ha pierced, muṣṭiprahārābhihatam struck by fist, tat that, śailāgram mountain peak, vyaśīryata broken, savisphuliṅgam like sparks of fire, sajvālam shining brightly, mahītalē on the ground, nipapāta fell.

(Kumbhakarna) observing the mountain peak coming towards him pierced it with his fist. Struck by the fist, the peak broke and sparks of fire came out shining brightly and fell on the ground.

ṛṣabhaśśarabhōnīlōgavākṣōgandhamādanaḥ ।।6.67.24।।

pañcavānaraśārdūlāḥkumbukarṇamupādravan .

ṛṣabhaḥ Rshaba, śarabhaḥ Sarabha, nīlaḥ Neela, gavākṣaḥ Gavaksha, gandhamādanaḥ Gandhamadana, pañca five, vānaraśārdhūlāḥ tigers among Vanaras, kumbakarṇam Kumbhakarna, upādravan attacked.

Rshaba, Sarabha, Neela, Gavaksha and Gandhamadana, these five tigers among Vanaras attacked Kumbhakarna.

śailairvavṛkṣaistalaiḥpādairmuṣṭibhiścamahābalāḥ ।।6.67.25।।

kumbhakarṇaṅmahākāyaṅsarvatō.bhipradudruvuḥ .

mahābalāḥ Vanaras of exceptional strength, śailaiḥ rock, vṛkṣaiḥ trees, talaiḥ palms, pādaiḥ feet, muṣṭibhiḥ ca and fist also, mahākāyam of huge body, kumbakarṇam Kumbhakarna, sarvataḥ all over, abhipradudruvuḥ attacked severely.

Those Vanaras of exceptional strength attacked gigantic Kumbhakarna on all sides by rocks, trees and by their fists, hands and feet also.

sparśānivaprahārāṅstānvēdvayānō na vivyathē ।।6.67.26।।

ṛṣabhaṅtumahāvēgaṅbāhubhyāṅpariṣasvajē .

tān his, prahārān attacks, sparśāniva like touches, vēdayānaḥ pain, na vivyadhē not felt, mahāvēgam of great impetuosity, ṛṣabham Rshaba, bāhubhyām shoulders, pariṣasvajē encircled.

Their attacks were like soft touches to Kumbhakarna, and no pain was experienced by him, and he encircled Rshaba by the shoulders with great impetuosity.

kumbhakarṇabhujābhyāṅtupīḍitōvānararṣabhaḥ ।।6.67.27।।

nipapātarṣabhōbhīmaḥpramukhādvāntaśōṇitaḥ .

kumbhakarṇabhujābhyāṅ Kumbhakarna's shoulders, pīḍitaḥ pressing, vānararṣabhaḥ bull among Vanaras, bhīmaḥ frightful, ṛṣabhaḥ Rshaba, pramukhādvāntaśōṇitaḥ blood flowing from his teeth, nipapāta fell down.

Rshaba, the bull among Vanaras, of frightful appearance pressed by Kumbhakarna's shoulders, started bleeding from his teeth and fell down.

muṣṭināśarabhaṅhatvājānunānīlamāhavē ।।6.67.28।।

ājaghānagavākṣaṅtulēnēndraripustadā .

pādēnābhyahanatkṛddhastarasāgandhamādanam ।।6.67.29।।

tadā then, kruddhaḥ angry, indraripuḥ enemy of Indra, āhavē hit, śarabham Sarabha, muṣṭinā with fist, nīlam Neela, jānunā knees, hatvā hurting, gavākṣam Gavaksha, talēna with palm, ājaghāna slapped, gandhamādanam Gandhamadana, tarasā kicked, pādēna with feet, abhyaha nat with force.

Angry Kumbhakarna (enemy of Indra) hit Sarabha with his fist, Neela with his knees hurt Gavaksha and slapped him with his palms. Gandhamadana was kicked with force.

dattaprahāravyathitāmumuhuśśōṇitōkṣitāḥ .

nipētustētumēdinyāṅnikṛttāivakiṅśukāḥ ।।6.67.30।।

tē they, dattaprahāravyathitāḥ hurt by the blows, śōṇitōkṣitāḥ eyes bathed in blood, mumuhuḥ fainted, nikṛttāḥ cut down, kiṅśukāḥiva like Kimsuka trees, mēdinyām on the ground, nipētuḥ lay.

Hurt by the blows of Kumbhakarna, their eyes bathed in blood, the Vanaras fainted and fell on the ground like cut down Kimsuka trees.

tēṣuvānaramukhyēṣupātitēṣumahātmasu .

vānarāṇāṅsahasrāṇikumbakarṇaṅpradadruvuḥ ।।6.67.31।।

mahātmasu great leaders, tēṣu they being, vānaramukhyēṣu important among Vanaras, pātitēṣu fallen, vānarāṇām Vanaras, sahasrāṇi thousands, kumbhakarṇam Kumbhakarna, pradudruvuḥ went towards.

Being great leaders and the important among them fallen, the Vanaras went in thousands towards Kumbhakarna.

taṅśailamivaśailābhāḥsarvētuplavagarṣabhāḥ .

samāruhyasamutpatyadadaṅśuścamahābalāḥ ।।6.67.32।।

śailābhāḥ looking like mountains themselves, mahābalāḥ endowed with strength, sarvē all, tē of them, plavagarṣabhāḥ bulls among Vanaras, śailamiva like mountain, tam him, samāruhya climbing up, samutpatya jumping, dadaṅśuḥ bit him.

The bulls among Vanaras themselves looking like mountains endowed with great strength climbed up Kumbhakarna and bit him.

taṅnakhairdhaśanaiścāpimuṣṭibhirbāhubhistathā .

kumbhakarṇaṅmahābāhahuṅtējaghnuḥplavagarṣabhāḥ ।।6.67.33।।

plavagarṣabhāḥ bull among monkeys, mahābāhum endowed with strong shoulders, taṅkumbakarṇam that Kumbhakarna, nakhaiḥ nails, daśanaiścāpi teeth also, muṣṭibhiḥ with fists also, tathā like that, bāhubhiḥ arms, tējaghnuḥ hurt him.

The bulls among Vanaras hurt Kumbhakarna, endowed with strong shoulders, by scratching with nails, biting with teeth and hitting him with arms and fists.

sa vānarasahastrairajitaḥ parvatōpamaiḥ .

rarājarākṣasavyāghrōgirirātmaruhairiva ।।6.67.34।।

vānarasahastrairajita covered by thousands of monkeys, parvatōpamaḥ resembling mountain, saḥ he, rākṣasavyāghraḥ tiger among Rakshasas, ātmaruhaiḥ grown on itself, giriḥiva like mountain, rarāja appeared.

The tiger among Rakshasas covered with thousands of Rakshasas was resembling a mountain with trees grown on itself.

bāhubhyāṅvānarānsarvānpragṛhya sa mahābalaḥ .

bhakṣyāmāsasaṅkruddhōgaruḍaḥpannagāniva ।।6.67.35।।

mahābalaḥ mighty strong, saḥ he, sarvān all, vānarān Vanaras, bāhubhyām shoulders, pragṛhya holding, saṅkruddhaḥ highly enraged, garuḍaḥ Garuda, pannagāniva serpents like, bhakṣyāmāsa started devouring.

Holding the Vanaras, the mighty Kumbhakarna started devouring all Vanaras just as Garuda does with serpents.

prakṣiptāḥkumbakarṇēnavaktrēpātālasannibhē .

nāsāpuṭābhyāṅnirjagmuḥkarṇābhyāṅcaivavānarāḥ ।।6.67.36।।

kumbakarṇēna Kumbhakarna, pātālasannibhē the nethermost world, vaktrē mouth, prakṣiptāḥ thrust into, vānarāḥ Vanaras, nāsāpuṭābhyām through nostrils, karṇābhyāṅcaiva and also through ears, nirjagmuḥ came out.

As Kumbhakarna thrust Vanaras into his mouth, the Vanaras came out through his nostrils and also through his ears.

bhakṣyanbhṛśasaṅkruddhō harīn parvatasannibhaḥ .

babhañjavānarān sarvān saṅkruddhōrākṣasōttamaḥ ।।6.67.37।।

bhṛśasaṅkruddhaḥ very angry, parvatasannibhaḥ like the mountain, rākṣasōttamaḥ foremost of Rakshasas, saṅkṛddhaḥ very angry, harīn Vanaras, bhakṣyan eating, vānarān Vanaras, babhañja mutilated.

The foremost of the Rakshasas, who resembled a mountain became enraged and mutilated the Vanaras.

māṅsaśōṇitasaṅklēdākurvan bhūmiṅ sa rākṣasaḥ .

cacāraharinainyēṣukālānagirivamūrchitaḥ ।।6.67.38।।

saḥrākṣasaḥ That Rakshasa, bhūmim terrible, māṅsaśōṇitasaṅklēdām wetting the ground with flesh and blood, kurvan done, mūrchitaḥ swooning, kālānagiriva like the fire at dissolution, harisainyēṣu into the army of Vanaras, cacāra ranged through.

That terrible Rakshasa swooning and wetting the ground with flesh and blood ranged through the army of Vanaras like fire at the time of dissolution of the universe.

vajrahastōyathāśakraḥpāśahastaivāntakaḥ .

śūlahastōbabhauyuddhēkumbakarṇōmahābalaḥ ।।6.67.39।।

śūlahastaḥ holding pike in hand, mahābalaḥ mighty, kumbakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, yuddhē in battlefield, vajrahastaḥ thunderbolt in hand, śakraḥyathā like Indra, pāśahastaḥ like noose in hand, antakaḥiva like Lord of death, babhau shone.

Holding pike in hand, mighty Kumbhakarna was shining in the battlefield like Indra holding thunderbolt, and like Lord of Death holding the noose.

yathāśuṣkāṇyaraṇyānigrīṣmēdahatipāvakaḥ .

tathāvānarasainyānikumbakarṇōvinirdahat ।।6.67.40।।

graṣmē summer, śuṣkāṇi dried, araṇyāni forest, pāvakaḥ fire god, yathā like that, dahati consumes, tathā that, saḥkumbakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, vānarasainyāni Vanara army, vinirdahat consuming.

Just as fire god consumes dried forest in summer, Kumbhakarna was consuming the Vanara army.

tatastēvadhyamānāstuhatayūthāvināyakāḥ .

vānarābhayasaṅvignāvinēdurvisvaraṅbhṛśaiḥ ।।6.67.41।।

tataḥ then, hatayūthāḥ killed army, vināyakāḥ moved without any leader, tēvānarāḥ those Vanaras, vadhyamānāḥ killed, bhayasaṅvignāḥ with fear, vikṛtaiḥ unnatural sound, bhṛśaiḥ in anger, visvaram roared.

Then with the army killed, the Vanaras moved without any leader making unnatural sounds out of fear and anger.

anēkaśōvadhyamānāḥkumbhakarṇēnavānarāḥ .

rāghavaṅśaraṇaṅjagmurvyathitāḥbhinnacētasaḥ ।।6.67.42।।

kumbhakarṇēna Kumbhakarna, anēkaśaḥ in many ways, vadhyamānāḥ destroying, vānarāḥ Vanaras, vyathitāḥ worried, bhinnacētasaḥ heartbroken, rāghavam Raghava, śaraṇaṅjagmuḥ sought refuge.

Destroyed by Kumbhakarna in many ways, the Vanaras were heartbroken and sought the refuge of Raghava.

prabhagnān vānarān dṛṣṭavāvajrahastātmajātmajaḥ .

abhyadhāvatavēgēnakumbhakarṇaṅmahāhavē ।।6.67.43।।

mahāhavē son of Vali, prabhagnān defeated, vānarān Vanaras, dṛṣṭavā seeing, vajrahastātmajātmajaḥ sprung from Indra, the wielder of thunderbolt, vēgēna rushed, kumbhakarṇam to Kumbhakarna, abhyadhāvata to assault.

The son of Vali who sprung from Indra, the wielder of the thunderbolt seeing the Vanaras routed, rushed towards Kumbhakarna to assault.

śailaśṛṅgaṅmahadgṛhyavinadaṅścamuhurmuhuḥ .

trāsayanrākṣasānsarvān kumbhakarṇapadānugān ।।6.67.44।।

cikṣēpaśailaśikharaṅkumbhakarṇasyamūrdhani .

saḥ he, mahat huge, śailaśṛṅgam peak of mountain, gṛhya taking, muhurmuhuḥ again and again, vinadan roaring aloud, kumbhakarṇapadānugān following Kumbhakarna, sarvān all, rākṣasān Rakshasas, trāsayan frightening śailaśikharam mountain top, kumbhakarṇasya Kumbhakarna's, mūrdhani forehead, cikṣēpa crushed.

Angada taking a huge peak of a mountain roaring again and again following Kumbhakarna frightening the Rakshasas flung the mountain top on the forehead of Kumbhakarna and crushed him.

sa tēnābhihatōmūrdhniśailēnēndraripustadā ।।6.67.45।।

kumbhakarṇaḥprajajvālakrōdhēnamahatātadā .

sō.bhyadhāvatavēgēnavāliputramamarṣaṇam ।।6.67.46।।

tadā then, tēna by that, śailēna mountain, mūrdhni on the forehead, abhihataḥ struck, indraripuḥ Indra's enemy, saḥkumbhakarṇaḥ that Kumbhakarna, mahatā huge, krōdhēna furious, prajajvāla burning, tadā then, amarṣaṇam intolerant, vāliputram to Vali's son, vēgēna rushed, abhyadhāvata with force.

Hit on the forehead by Angada, Kumbhakarna, burning with fury rushed. The intolerant Rakshasa then rushed to Vali's son with force.

kumbhakarṇōmahānādastrāsayan sarvavānarān .

śūlaṅsasarjavairōṣādaṅgadētumahābalaḥ ।।6.67.47।।

mahānādaḥ loud noise, mahābalaḥ mighty, kumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, sarvavānarān all Vanaras, trāsayan frightening, aṅgadē to Angada, rōṣāt agitated, śūlam pike, sasarja hurled.

Mighty Kumbhakarna agitated, making loud noise and frightening all the Vanaras hurled his pike on Angada.

ta māpatantaṅbuddhvātuyuddhamārgaviśāradaḥ .

lāghavānmōcayāmābalavān vānararṣabhaḥ ।।6.67.48।।

yuddhamārgaviśāradaḥ knowledgeable in warfare, balavān endowed with prowess, vānararṣabhaḥ bull among Vanaras, āpatantam stopped, tam that, buddhvā approaching, lāghavāt agility, mōcayāmāsa escaped.

Angada who was knowledgeable of warfare, endowed with prowess, a bull among Vanaras, stopped the pike approaching him with agility and escaped.

utpatyacainaṅtarasātalēnōrasyatāḍayat .

sa tēnābhihataḥkōpātpramumōhācalōpamaḥ ।।6.67.49।।

utpatya jumping up, ēnam in that manner, tarasā slapped, talēna with palm, urasi on the chest, atāḍayat struck, tēna by that, kōpāt in anger, abhihataḥ struck, acalōpamaḥ like mountain, saḥ he, pramumōha unconscious.

Jumping up that way, Angada slapped him with his palm on the chest in anger. By that the mountain like Kumbhakarna became unconscious.

sa labdasaṅjñōbalavānmuṣṭimāvartyarākṣasaḥ .

apahāstēnacikṣēpavisaṅjñaḥ sa papāta ha ।।6.67.50।।

balavān mighty, saḥ he, rākṣasaḥ Rakshasa, labdasaṅjñaḥ regained consciousness, muṣṭim fist, āvartya doubling, apahāstēna back of his hand, cikṣēpa hit, saḥ him, visaṅjñaḥ lost consciousness, papāta ha fell.

The mighty Rakshasa regained his consciousness and, doubling his fist hit Angada with the back of his hand and Angada fell, lost senses.

tasmin plavagaśārdūlēvisaṅjñēpatitēbhuvi .

tacchūlaṅsamupādāyasugrīvamabhidudruvē ।।6.67.51।।

plavagaśārdūlē tiger among monkeys, tasmin his, visaṅjñē unconscious, bhuvi on ground, patitē fallen, tacchūlam that pike, samupādāya taking out, sugrīvam to Sugriva, samabhidudruvē rushed towards.

When the tiger among the monkeys fell unconscious on ground, Kumbhakarna rushed towards Sugriva taking out the pike.

tamāpatantaṅsamprēkṣyakumbhakarṇaṅmahābalam .

utpapātatadāvīrassugrīvōvānarādhipaḥ ।।6.67.52।।

tadā then, vīraḥ valiant, vānarādhipaḥ Vanara leader, sugrīvaḥ Sugriva, āpatantam coming, mahābalam mighty, kumbhakarṇam Kumbhakarna, utpapāta jumped.

Valiant Sugriva, seeing the mighty Kumbhakarna coming towards him jumped (in excitement).

sa parvatāgramutkṣipyasamāvidhyamahābalaḥ .

abhidudrāvavēgēnakumbhakarṇaṅmahābalam ।।6.67.53।।

mahābalaḥ of great prowess, saḥ he (Sugriva), parvatāgram mountain peak, utkṣipya lifting, samāvidhya whirling round, mahābalam great strength, kumbhakarṇam Kumbhakarna, vēgēna swiftly, abhidudrāva darted towards.

Sugriva, of great prowess lifting a mountain peak, whirled it round and round and darted towards Kumbhakarna swiftly.

tamāpatantaṅsamprēkṣyakumbhakarṇaḥplavaṅgamam .

tasthauvivṛtasarvāṅgōvānarēndrasyasammukhaḥ ।।6.67.54।।

kumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, āpatantam approaching, tam him, plavaṅgamam monkey, samprēkṣya looking, vivṛtasarvāṅgaḥ all limbs braced, vānarēndrasya Vanara Lord's, sammukhaḥ forefront.

Kumbhakarna, looking at the monkey Lord advancing towards him, stood in front of all limbs braced.

kapiśōṇitadigdhāṅgaṅbhakṣyantaṅplavaṅgamān .

kumbhakarṇaṅsthitaṅdṛṣṭavāsugrīvōvākyamabravīt ।।6.67.55।।

kapiśōṇitadigdhāṅgam smeared with the blood of Vanaras, plavaṅgamān monkeys, bhakṣyantam eating, sthitam stood, kumbhakarṇam Kumbhakarna, dṛṣṭavā seeing, sugrīvaḥ Sugriva, vākyam words, abravīt spoke.

Sugriva spoke these words seeing Kumbhakarna who stood smeared with the blood of Vanaras and eating monkeys.

tvajatadvānarānīkaṅprākṛtaiḥkiṅkariṣyasi .

sahasvaikaṅnipātaṅmēparvatasyāsyarākṣasa ।।6.67.57।।

tat that, vānarānīkam Vanara troops, tyaja give up, prākṛtaiḥ by nature, kiṅkariṣyasi What work, rākṣasa Rakshasa, mē with me, asyaparvatasya your mountain's, ēkam nipātam one mountain, sahasva bear.

"Give up with Vanaras, who are monkeys by nature. Bear this one mountain's blow of mine."

tadvākyaṅharirājasyasattvadhairyasamanvitam .

śrutvārākṣasaśārdūlaḥkumbhakarṇō.bravīdvacaḥ ।।6.67.58।।

harirājasya king of Vanaras, sattvadhairyasamanvitam words of courage and strength, tat vākyam those words, śrutvā on hearing, rākṣasaśārdūlaḥ Rakshasa tiger, kumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, vacaḥ words, abravīt spoke.

Hearing the king of Vanara's words of courage and strength, the tiger among Rakshasas, Kumbhakarna spoke these words.

prajāpatēstupautrastvaṅtathaivarakṣarajassutaḥ .

śrutapauruṣasampannaḥkasmādgarjasivānara ।।6.67.59।।

vānara O Vanara, tvam you, prajāpatēḥ creator, pautraḥ grandson, tathaiva therefore, ṛkṣarajassutaḥ Rksharaja's son, śrutapauruṣasampannaḥ endowed richly with fortitude, kasmāt therefore, garjasi roaring.

"O Vanara! You are the grandson of creator Brahma and son of Rksharaja, endowed with fortitude and so roaring like this."

sa kumbhakarṇasyavacōniśamyavyāvidhyaśailaṅsahasāmumōca .

tēnājaghānōrasikumbhakarṇaṅśailēnavajrāśanisannibhēna ।।6.67.60।।

saḥ he, kumbhakarṇasya Kumbhakarna's, vacaḥ words, niśamya hearing, śailam mountain, vyāvidhya separating, sahasā forcibly, mumōca discharged, vajrāśanisannibhēna resembling thunderbolt, tēna by that, kumbhakarṇam Kumbhakarna, urasi chest, ājaghāna dropped.

On hearing Kumbhakarna's words, Sugriva forcibly discharged a mountain resembling a thunderbolt on the chest of Kumbhakarna.

tacchailaśṛṅgaṅsahasāvikīrṇaṅbhujāntarētasyatadāviśālē .

tatōniṣēduḥsahasāplavaṅgārakṣōgaṇāścāpimudāvinēduḥ ।।6.67.61।।

tadā then, tasya his, viśālē broad, bhujāntarē between shoulders, tat that, śailaśṛṅgam mountain peak, sahasā forcefully, vibhinnam broke into pieces, tataḥ thereafter, plavaṅgāḥ monkey, sahasā forcibly, viṣaṇṇāḥ desperate, rakṣōgaṇāścāpi the troops of Rakshasas, mudā joy, vinēduḥ roared.

Then the mountain peak dropped on the chest broke into pieces. Thereafter the monkeys were despaired, and Rakshasas roared in joy.

sa śailaśṛṅgābhihataścukōpananādarōṣāccavivṛtyavaktram .

vyāvidhyaśūlaṅ ca taṭitprakāśaṅcikṣēpaharyṛkṣipatērvadhāya ।।6.67.62।।

saḥ , śailaśṛṅgābhihatāḥ struck with mountain peak, cukōpa became furious, rōṣāt pride hurt, vaktram mouth, vivṛtya opening widely, nanāda made loud noise, taṭitprakāśam glowing like lightning, śūlam pike, vyāvidhya turning round in circles, haryṛkṣipatēḥ to destroy Sugriva, vadhāya put an end, cikṣēpa hurled.

Struck with mountain peaks, the Rakshasa became furious, and his pride was hurt. He opened his mouth widely making loud noises, his pike glowing like lightning, turned the pike into circles and hurled at Sugriva to put an end to him.

tatkumbhakarṇasyabhujapraviddhaṅśūlaṅśitaṅkāñcanadāmajuṣṭam .

kṣipraṅsamutpatyanigṛhyadōrbhyāṅbabhañjavēgēnasutō.nilasya ।।6.67.63।।

anilasyasutaḥ son of wind-god, kṣipram instantly, samutpatya seizing, kumbhakarṇasya Kumbhakarna's, bhujapraviddham with his arms, śitam shaft, kāñcanadāmajuṣṭam covered with chains of gold, tat that, śūlam pike, dōrbhyām both hands, nigṛhya holding, vēgēna quickly, babhañja broke.

Hanuman the son of wind-god instantly seized Kumbhakarna with his arms, whose shaft was covered by chains and broke with both hands quickly.

kṛtaṅbhārasahasrasyaśūlaṅkālāyasaṅmahat .

babhañjajānumārōpyatadāhṛṣṭaḥplavaṅgamaḥ ।।6.67.64।।

tadā then, hṛṣṭaḥ rejoiced, plavaṅgamaḥ monkey, bhārasahasrasya thousand bharas, kṛtam done, mahat great, kālāyasam iron, śūlam pike, jānum knee, ārōpya resting, babhañja broke it.

Then a rejoiced monkey, resting the thousand bharas iron pike on his knee broke it.

śūlaṅbhagnaṅhanumatādṛṣṭavāvānaravāhinī .

hṛṣṭānanādabahuśassarvataścāpidudruvē ।।6.67.65।।

vānaravāhinī Vanara army, hanumatā by Hanuman, bhagnam broken, śūlam pike, dṛṣṭavā seeing, hṛṣṭā rejoiced, bahuśaḥ repeatedly, nanāda roared, sarvataḥ ca all over, dudruvēapi and rushed.

Seeing the pike broken by Hanuman, the army of Vanaras rejoiced and roared repeatedly all over and rushed.

babhūvathaparitrastōrākṣasōvimukhō.bhavat .

siṅhanādaṅ ca tēcakruḥprahṛṣṭāvanagōcarāḥ ।।6.67.66।।

mārutiṅpūjayāñcakrurdṛṣṭavāśūlaṅtathāgatam .

atha and then, rākṣasaḥ Rakshasa, paritrastaḥ dismayed, vimukhaḥ mellowed, abhavat became, tē they, vanagōcarāḥ forest rangers, prahṛṣṭāḥ rejoiced, siṅhanādam roared like lions, cakruḥ went round, tathāgatam broken that way, śūlam pike, dṛṣṭām seeing, mārutim Hanuman, pūjayāñcakruḥ applauded.

Rakshasa was dismayed and mellowed. The forest rangers rejoiced and roared like lions going round. Seeing the broken pike Vanaras applauded Hanuman.

sa tattathābhagnamavēkṣyaśūlaṅcukōparakṣōdhipatirmahātmā .

utpāṭyalaṅkāmalayātsaśṛṅgaṅjaghānasugrīvamupētyatēna ।।6.67.67।।

mahātmā great soul, saḥ he, rakṣōdhipatiḥ Lord of Rakshasas, tat there, śūlam pike, tathā that way, bhagnam broken, avēkṣya seeing, cukōpa highly enraged, laṅkāmalayāt Malaya from Lanka, śṛṅgam mountain, utpāṭya taking hold, sugrīvam at Sugriva, upētyatēna approaching, jaghāna struck.

That great soul, the Lord of Rakshasas seeing the pike broken in that way, was highly enraged. Taking Malaya Mountain from Lanka, he struck Sugriva who was approaching him.

sa śailaśṛṅgābhihatōvisaṅjñaḥpapātabhūmauyudhivānarēndraḥ .

taṅprēkṣyabhūmaupatitaṅvisaṅjñanēduḥprahṛṣṭāstvathayātudhānāḥ ।।6.67.68।।

saḥ he, vānarēndraḥ Vanara king, śailaśṛṅgābhihataḥ struck by mountain piece, visaṅjñaḥ became unconscious, bhūmau on the ground, papāta dropped, yudhi battle, bhūmau field, patitam fallen, visaṅjñam without consciousness, tam him, prēkṣya seeing, yātudhānāḥ Rakshasas, prahṛṣṭāḥ happy, stvatha themselves, nēduḥ roar of triumph.

Struck by the piece of mountain the Vanara king became unconscious and dropped on the battlefield. Seeing that the Rakshasas were happy and naturally roared with a feeling of triumph.

mabhyupētyādbhutaghōravīryaṅ sa kumbhakarṇōyudhivānarēndram .

jahārasugrīvamabhipragṛhyayathānilōmēghamatipracaṇḍaḥ ।।6.67.69।।

saḥ he, kumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, yudhi battle, adbhutaghōravīryam wonderful and dreadful valour, vānarēndram Vanara Lord, taṅsugrīvam that Sugriva, abhipragṛhya taking up again, atipracaṇḍaḥ highly tempestuous, anilaḥ wind, mēghaṅyathā like cloud, jahāra took him.

Kumbhakarna approaching the Vanara Lord Sugriva endowed with wonderful and dreadful prowess, went like wind carrying clouds taking him.

sa taṅmahāmēghanikāśarūpamutpāṭyagacchanyudhikumbhakarṇaḥ .

rarājamērupratimānarūpōmēruryathābhyuchracitaghōraśṛṅgaḥ ।।6.67.70।।

yudhi in the battlefield, mahāmēghanikāśarūpam form which resembled huge cloud, tam him, utpāṭya lifting, gacchan went, mērupratimānarūpaḥ form of Meru mountain, kumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, abhyuchracitaghōraśṛṅgaḥ distinguished by lofty peak, mēruryathā like Meru, rarāja seemed.

In the battlefield, the form of Kumbhakarna which resembled a huge cloud was distinguished in appearance like the lofty peak of mountain Meru.

tatastamādāyajagāmavīrassaṅstūyamānōyudhirākṣasēndraiḥ .

śṛṇvanninādaṅtridivālayānāṅplavaṅgarājagrahavismitānām ।।6.67.71।।

tataḥ thereafter, vīraḥ hero, rākṣasēndraḥ Rakshasa king, tam his, ādāya taking hold, yudhi in battle, saṅstūyamānaḥ praising, plavaṅgarājagrahavismitānām wondered at Sugriva's capture, tridivālayānām , ninādam roaring sounds, śṛṇvan hearing, jagāma went.

Thereafter the heroic Rakshasa king having held Sugriva in the battle went, duly praised (by Rakshasas), hearing the roaring sounds of gods in heaven wondering at Sugriva's capture.

tatastamādāyatadā sa mēnēharīndramindrōpamamindravīryaḥ .

asmin hatēsarvamidaṅhataṅsyātsarāghavaṅsainyamitīndraśatruḥ ।।6.67.72।।

indravīryaḥ equal to Indra in heroism, indraśatruḥ Indra's enemy, saḥ he, tataḥ then, indrōpamam like Indra, tam him, harīndram Indra of monkeys, ādāya seizing, tadā then, asmin his, hatē killed, sarāghavam having been killed, sarvam all, idam like this, sainyam army, hatam killed, syāt including, iti thus, mēnē thought.

Then Kumbhakarna, an enemy of Indra, who was equal to Indra in heroism seizing Sugriva, the Indra of monkeys, who is equal to Indra, thought, 'If Sugriva is killed it is like killing all the army including Rama.'

vidrutāṅvāhinīṅdṛṣṭavāvānarāṇāmitastataḥ .

kumbhakarṇēnasugrīvaṅgṛhītaṅcāpivānaram ।।6.67.73।।

hanumāṅścintayāmāsamatimān mārutātmajaḥ .

matimān wise one, mārutātmajaḥ son of Maruti, hanumān Hanuman, itastataḥ here and there, vidrutām running away, vānarāṇām Vanaras, vāhinīm army, dṛṣṭavā seeing, vānaram Vanaras, sugrīvam Sugriva, kumbhakarṇēna Kumbhakarna, gṛhītaṅcāpi being captured, cintayāmāsa started thinking.

Seeing the army running away here and there and Sugriva being captured by Kumbhakarna, wise Hanuman, the son of Maruti started thinking.

ēvaṅgṛhītēsugrīvēkiṅkartavyaṅmayābhavēt ।।6.67.74।।

yadvainyāyaṅmayākartuṅtatkariṣyāmisarvadhā .

bhūtvāparvatasaṅkāśōnāśayiṣyāmirākṣasam ।।6.67.75।।

sugrīvē Sugriva, ēvam in this way, gṛhītē captured, mayā my, kim what, kartavyam duty, bhavēt will be, mayā my, yat that which, kartum will do, nyāyyam justice, tat that, sarvadhā thought, kariṣyāmi will do, parvatasaṅkāśaḥ one who is like a mountain, bhūtvā to be done, rākṣasam Rakshasa, nāśayiṣyāmi will destroy.

'Sugriva has been caught. What is my duty now? I will do what is just. I will destroy that Rakshasa who is in the form of a mountain', thought Maruti.

mayāhatēsaṅyatikumbhakarṇēmahābalēmuṣṭiviśīrṇadēhē .

vimōcitēvānarapārthivē ca bhavantuhṛṣṭāḥplavagāssamastāḥ ।।6.67.76।।

mahābalē mighty, kumbhakarṇē Kumbhakarna, muṣṭiviśīrṇadēhē shattered hit by fist, saṅyati in duel, mayā by me, hatē killed, vānarapārthivē Vanara king vimōcitē delivered, samastāḥ all, plavagāḥ monkeys, hṛṣṭāḥ rejoice, bhavantu will be.

'Mighty Kumbhakarna shattered by my fist in a duel, and the king of Vanaras delivered, all the monkeys will be rejoiced.'

athavāsvayamapyēṣamōkṣaṅprāpsyatipārthiva .

gṛhītō.yaṅyadibhavētridaśaissāsurōragaiḥ ।।6.67.77।।

athavā or else, ayam ēṣaḥ he alone, pārthiva remain, sāsurōragaiḥ Nagas, gods and demons tridaśaiḥ all the three, gṛhītaḥ captured, bhavēdyadi by himself, svayam himself, mōkṣam liberate, prāpsyati will attain.

'Or else this Sugriva alone can get liberated by fighting by himself with gods, demons and Nagas also, even if he is captured'.

manyē na tāvadātmānaṅbudhyatēvānarādhipaḥ .

śailaprahārābhihataḥkumbhakarṇēnasaṅyugē ।।6.67.78।।

saṅyugē in battle, kumbhakarṇēna Kumbhakarna, śailaprahārābhihataḥ hit by mountain and lost senses, vānarādhipaḥ Vanara leader, ātmānam himself, na budhyatētāvat not able to know, manyē I think.

"I think that Sugriva, hit by Kumbhakarna with a mountain, has lost senses and is not able to know."

ayaṅmuhūrtātsugrīvōlabdasaṅjñōmahāhavē .

ātmanōvānarāṇāṅ ca yatpathyaṅtatkariṣyati ।।6.67.79।।

ayam I, sugrīvaḥ Sugriva, mahāhavē gaining consciousness, muhūrtāt soon, labdasaṅjñaḥ regaining senses, ātmanaḥ himself, vānarāṇāṅ ca Vanaras also, yat that which, pathyam good, tat that, kariṣyati will do.

Sugriva will soon regain consciousness and do what is good for Vanaras.

mayātumōkṣitasyāsyasugrīvasyamahātmanaḥ .

aprītiścabhavētkaṣṭākīrtināśaścaśāśvataḥ ।।6.67.80।।

mayā I, mēkṣitasya if released, mahātmanaḥ great soul, asya his, sugrīvasya Sugriva's, kaṣṭā caused, aprītiśca not happy, śāśvataḥ ever, kīrtināśaśca fame lost, bhavēt will be.

"If Sugriva is released by me, he will not be happy forever. His fame will be lost."

tasmānmuhūrtaṅkāṅkṣiṣyēvikramaṅpārthivasyatu .

bhinnaṅ ca vānarānīkaṅtāvadāśvāsayāmyaham ।।6.67.81।।

tasmāt therefore, muhūrtam for a while, pārthivasya exhibition, vikramam of prowess, kāṅkṣiṣyē see, tāvat thereafter, bhinnam scattered, vānarānīkam Vanara army, aham I, āśvāsayāmi will reinforce.

"Therefore, I will see the exhibition of his prowess for a while. Thereafter I shall reinforce the scattered army of Vanaras."

ityēvaṅcintayitvātuhanumānmārutātmajaḥ .

bhūyaḥsaṅstambhayāmāsavānarāṇāṅmahācamūm ।।6.67.82।।

mārutātmaja son of Maruti, hanumān Hanuman, ityēvam in this way, cintayitvā thinking, atha then, bhūyaḥ said, vānarāṇām to Vanaras, mahācamūm huge army, saṅstambhayāmāsa brought determination.

Hanuman, the son of Maruti thinking in this way said to the Vanara army and brought determination.

sa kumbhakarṇō.thavivēśalaṅkāṅspurantamādāyamahākapiṅtam .

vimānacaryāgṛhagōpurasthaiḥpuṣpāgyravarṣairavakīryamāṇaḥ ।।6.67.83 .

ata then, saḥkumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, sphurantam shaking, tam his, mahākapim great Vanara, ādāya taking, vimānacaryāgṛhagōpurasthaiḥ through the roads of lofty mansions, puṣpāgyravarṣaiḥ showered with flowers, avakīryamāṇaḥ hailed by Rakshasas, laṅkām Lanka, vivēśa entered.

Then Kumbhakarna taking the great Vanara who started to shake by then, entered Lanka through the roads of lofty mansions from where Rakshasas hailed showering flowers.

lājagandhōdavarṣaistusicyamānaśsanaiśśanaiḥ .

rājavīthyāstuśītatvātsaṅjñāṅprāpamahābalaḥ ।।6.67.84।।

mahābalaḥ exceptionally strong, lājagandhōdavarṣaiḥtu parched grain and fragrant water showered on him, sēvyamānaḥ being cool, rājavīthyāḥ royal path, śītatvāt cool, śanaiḥśanaiḥ slowly slowly, saṅjñām consciousness, prāpa gained.

Exceptionally strong Sugriva with parched grain and fragrant water showered on him in the royal path, being cool, regained consciousness.

tatassasaṅjñāmupalabhyakṛcchrādbalīyasastasyabhujāntarasthaḥ .

avēkṣamāṇaḥpurasājamārgaṅvicintayāmāsamuhurmahātmā ।।6.67.85।।

balīyasaḥ being strong, tasya his, bhujāntarasthaḥ from the arms, mahātmā great, saḥ he, kṛcchrāt painfully, saṅjñām senses, upalabhya having gained, purarājamārgam royal path of the city, avēkṣamāṇaḥ started looking, muhuḥ bewildered, vicintayāmāsa started pondering.

(Sugriva) being strong and painfully gained senses, from the arms of the great Rakshasa, started looking at the royal path of the city. He was bewildered and started pondering this way.

ēvaṅgṛhītēnakathaṅnunāmaśakyaṅmayāsampratikartumadya .

tathākariṣyāmiyathāharīṇāṅbhaviṣyatīṣṭaṅ ca hitaṅ ca kāryam ।।6.67.86।।

ēvam in that way, gṛhītēna caught, mayā my, samprati taken, katham how, kartum What to do, śakyam possible, harīṇām to Vanaras, iṣṭam pleasing, hitaṅ ca good, kāryam task, yathā by which, bhaviṣyati will do, tathā that way, adya now, kariṣyāmi will do.

'Caught in this way, how can I do (take action)? I will do what is possible, pleasing, and good to Vanaras now.'

tataḥkarāgraiḥsahasāsamētyarājāharīṇāmamarēndraśatrum .

kharaiścakarṇaudaśanaiścanāsāṅdadaṅśapārśvēṣu ca kumbhakarṇam ।।6.67.87।।

harīṇām Vanaras, rājā king, samētya deciding, tataḥ thereafter, kharaiḥ ears, karāgraiḥ with sharp nails, amarēndraśatrōḥ enemy of the ruler of gods, karṇau ears, daśanaiḥ with teeth, nāsām nose, pārśvēṣu sides, kumbhakarṇa Kumbhakarna, dadaṅśa bit off.

There after the king of Vanaras decided to act and tore off the ears of the enemy ruler of gods (Kumbhakarna) with his sharp nails, bit off the nose with his teeth, and sides of Kumbhakarna.

sa kumbhakarṇōhṛtakarṇanāsōvidāritastēnaradairnakhaiśca .

rōṣābhibhūtaḥkṣatajārdragātraḥsugrīvamāvidhyapipēṣabhūmau ।।6.67.88।।

tēna by him (Sugriva), radaiḥ teeth, nakhaiśca with nails, vidāritaḥ splitting, hṛtakarṇanāsaḥ deprived of ears and nose, saḥkumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, rōṣābhighātaḥ highly furious, kṣatajārdragātraḥ limbs bespattered, sugrīvam Sugriva, bhūmau ground, āvidhya against, pipēṣa pounded.

Deprived of ears and nose by Sugriva, splitting with nails and teeth, Kumbhakarna was highly furious and pinning down Sugriva pounded him against the ground, limbs bespattered.

sa bhūtalēbhīmabalābhipiṣṭassurāribhisssairabhihanyamānaḥ .

jagāmakhaṅvēgavadabhyupētyapunaścarāmēṇasamājagāma ।।6.67.89।।

bhūtalē on the ground, bhīmabalābhipiṣṭaḥ of dreadful strength, taiḥ they, surāribhiḥ by enemies of god, abhihanyamānaḥ pressed against the ground, saḥ he, vēgavat with speed, abhyupētya bounced, kham sky, jagāma reached, punaśca again, rāmēṇa to Rama, samājagāma reunited.

Dropped on the ground by Kumbhakarna of dreadful strength, pressed against the ground surface, Sugriva bounced to the sky to get reunited with Rama.

karṇanāsāvihīnastukumbhakarṇōmahābalaḥ .

rarājaśōṇitaiḥsiktōgiriḥprasravaṇairiva ।।6.67.90।।

karṇanāsāvihīnaḥ devoid of nose and ears, mahābalaḥ great hero, kumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, śōṇitaiḥ with blood, siktaḥ drenched, prasravaṇaiḥ like springs, giriḥiva like mountain, rarāja shone.

Great hero Kumbhakarna, devoid of ears and nose drenched in blood shone like a mountain in springs.

śōṇitārdrōmahākāyōrākṣasōbhīmavikramaḥ .

yuddhāyābhimukhōbhīmōmanaścakrēniśācaraḥ ।।6.67.91।।

nīlāñjanacayaprakhyaḥsasnadhyaivatōyadaḥ .

amarṣācchōṇitōdgārīśuśubhērāvaṇānujīḥ ।।6.67.92।।

śōṇitārdraḥ drenched in blood, mahākāyaḥ of gigantic body, bhīmavikramaḥ of terrible valour, amarṣāt intolerant, nīlāñjanacayaprakhyaḥ dark in colour like mountain of collyrium, tōyadaḥiva like cloud, śuśubhē evening, bhīmaḥ terrible appearance, niśācaraḥ night ranger, abhimukhaḥ towards, bhūtvā battlefield, yuddhāya to fight, manaḥ in mind, cakrē went.

Kumbhakarna of terrific valour and gigantic body, drenched in blood, dark in colour like a mountain of collyrium, resembling evening cloud, the night ranger went towards the battlefield.

gatētutasmin surarājaśatruḥkrōdhātpradudrāvaraṇāyabhūyaḥ .

anāyudhō.smītivicintyaraudrōghōraṅtadāmudgaramāsasāda ।।6.67.93।।

tasmin him, gatē gone, surarājaśatruḥ enemy of Lord of gods, krōdhāt in anger, bhūyaḥ rushed, raṇāya to fight, pradudrāva retreating, raudraḥ ferocious, anāyudhaḥ without weapon, asmi his, iti thus, vicintya reflecting, tadā then, mudgaram iron mallet, āsasāda seizing.

Himself (Sugriva) gone, the enemy of the Lord of gods rushed again retreating, "I am ferocious, without weapon." Then seizing an iron mallet, Sugriva went reflecting.

tatassapuryāssasahasāmahātmāniṣkramyatadvānarasainyamugram .

babhakṣarakṣōyudhikumbhakarṇaḥprajāyugāntānagirivapravṛddhaḥ ।।6.67.94।।

mahātmā great, rakṣaḥ Rakshasa, saḥkumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, tataḥ then, puryāḥ spread over, sahasā instantly, niṣkramya departing, pravṛddhaḥ entering into, yugāntānagiḥ like fire at dissolution, prajāḥiva people, yudhi war, ugram ferocious, tat vānarasainyam Vanara army, babhakṣa consumed.

The great Kumbhakarna then departing instantly entered into Vanara army consumed them as fire at dissolution consumed people.

bubhukṣitaḥśōṇaitamāṅsagṛdhnuḥpravivyatadvānarasainyamugram .

cakhādarakṣāṅsiharīn piśācān ṛkṣāṅścamōhādyudhikumbhakarṇaḥ .

yathaivamṛtyurharatēyugāntē sa bhakṣyāmāsaharīṅścamukhyān ।।6.67.95।।

bubhukṣitaḥ consumed, śōṇitamāṅsagṛdhnuḥ blood and flesh, kumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, ugram ferocious, tat that, vānarasainyam Vanara army, praviśya entering, yudhi battle, mōhāt delusion, rakṣāṅsi Rakshasas also, harīn Vanaras, piśācān demons, ṛkṣān ca Bears, cakhāda entering, yugāntē at the end of universe, mṛtyuḥ death, yathaiva like the same way, haratē seizing, mukhyān principal, harīn Vanaras, bhakṣyāmāsa started consuming.

Kumbhakarna started seizing principal monkeys in the same way as death at the end of universe. Being famished for flesh and blood he entered the Vanara army in delusion and consumed not only Vanaras but Rakshasas, demons and bears also.

ēkaṅdvautrīn bahūn kruddhōvānarānsaharākṣasaiḥ .

samādāyaikahastēnapracikṣēpatvaranmukhē ।।6.67.96।।

kruddhaḥ enraged, tvaran hastily, ēkahastēna with one hand, samādāya taking, rākṣasaiḥsaha Rakshasas, vānarān Vanaras, ēkam alone, dvau two, trīn three, bahūn many, mukhē mouth, pracikṣēpa gulping them.

Taking one, two, three, and many Vanaras along with Rakshasas hastily with one hand he was gulping them.

samprasravaṅstadāmēdaśśōṇitē ca mahābalaḥ .

vadhyamānōnagēndrāgrairbhakṣyāmāsavānarān ।।6.67.97।।

tadā then, mahābalaḥ mighty, nagēndrāgraiḥ peaks of mountains, vadhyamānaḥ while being struck, mēdaḥśōṇitē brain and blood, samprasravan oozing out, vānarān Vanaras, bhakṣyāmāsa feasting.

Then the mighty Kumbhakarna while being struck by peaks of mountains, he was feasting on Vanaras fat and blood oozing out from his mouth.

tēbhakṣyamāṇāharayōrāmaṅjugmustadāgatim .

kumbhakarṇōbhṛśaṅkruddhaḥkapīn khādan pradhāvati ।।6.67.98।।

tadā then, bhakṣyamāṇā being consumed, tēharayaḥ those Vanaras, rāmam to Rama, gatim refuge, jagmuḥ went, bhṛśam swiftly, kruddhaḥ enraged, kumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, kapīn Vanaras, khādan followed, pradhāvati behind them.

Being devoured by Kumbhakarna, the Vanaras went for refuge to Rama. Enraged Kumbhakarna followed the Vanaras behind.

śatānisaptacāṣṭau ca viṅśatratiṅśattathaiva ca .

sampariṣvajyabāhubhyāṅkhādavaniparidhāvati ।।6.67.99।।

śatāni hundred, sapta ca seven, aṣṭau ca and eight, viṅśat twenty, tathaiva ca that way, triṅśat three hundred, bāhubhyām arms, sampariṣvajya stretching all sides, khādan devouring, viparidhāvati ran.

Stretching his arms on all sides picking hundred, seven hundred, eight hundred and two hundred and three hundred, he ran devouring the vanaras.

mēdōvasāśōṇitadigdhagātraḥkarāyavasaktagrathitāntramālaḥ .

vavarṣaśūlānisatīkṣaṇadaṅṣṭraḥkālōyugāntasthaivavṛddhaḥ ।।6.67.100।।

mēdōvasāśōṇitadigdhagātraḥ limbs smeared with fat and blood, karṇāvasaktagrathitāndramālaḥ wreaths of tangled entrails hanging over his ears, sutīkṣaṇadaṅṣṭraḥ sharp teeth, yugāntasthaḥ like the end of the world, pravṛddhaḥ grown in size, kālaḥiva like the spirit of death, śūlāni pike, vavarṣa rained darts.

His limbs smeared with fat and blood, with wreaths of entrails hanging on his ears, with sharp teeth, grown in his body to huge size, rained darts like the spirit of death at the end of the world.

tasmin kālēsumitrāyāḥputraḥparabalārdanaḥ .

cakāralakṣmaṇaḥkruddhōyuddhaṅparapurañjayaḥ ।।6.67.101।।

tasmin at that, kālē time, sumitrāyāḥ Sumitra's, putraḥ son, parabalārdanaḥ winner of enemy forces, parapurañjayaḥ conqueror of forts, lakṣmaṇaḥ Lakshmana, kruddhaḥ enraged, yuddham fight, cakāra went.

At that time, Sumitra's son, Lakshmana, winner of enemy forces, conqueror of forts, enraged went to fight.

sa kumbhakarṇasyaśarān śarīrēsaptavīryavān .

nicakhādādadēcānyāvanisasarja ca lakṣmaṇaḥ ।।6.67.102।।

vīryavān valiant one, lakṣmaṇaḥ Lakshmana, kumbhakarṇasya Kumbhakarna's, śarīrē body, sapta seven, śarān arrows, nicakhāna pierced, anyān other, ādadē seizing, visasarja ca discharged.

Valiant Lakshmana pierced seven arrows on Kumbhakarna's body and discharged many arrows on him.

pīḍyamānastadastraṅtuviśēṣaṅtatsarākṣasaḥ .

tataścukōpabalavānsumitrānandavardanaḥ ।।6.67.103।।

saḥrākṣasaḥ that Rakshasa, pīḍyamānaḥ having been tormented, tat his, tadastram dart, viśēṣam put an end tataḥ there upon, balavān mighty, sumitrānandavardhanaḥ enhancer of Sumitra's joy, cukōpa flew into rage.

Kumbhakarna having been tormented, put an end to the dart (of Lakshmana). Mighty Lakshmana there upon flew into a rage.

athāsyakavacaṅśubhraṅjāmbhūnadamayaṅśubham .

pracchādayāmāsaśaraissandhyābhramivamārutaḥ ।।6.67.104।।

ata then, mārutaḥ wind, sandhyābhramiva evening cloud covers, asya his, śubhram glittering, jāmbhūnadamayam golden, śubham charming, kavacam shield, śaraiḥ with arrows, pracchādayāmāsa covered.

Then he covered Kumbhakarna's glittering golden shield with arrows just as the evening wind covered the cloud.

nīlāñjanacayaprakhyaśśaraiḥkāñcanabhūṣaṇaiḥ .

apīḍyamānaśśuśubhēmēghaissūryaivāṅśumān ।।6.67.105।।

kāñcanabhūṣaṇaiḥ adorned with golden ornaments, śaraiḥ darts, apīḍyamānaḥ not tormented, nīlāñjanacayaprakhyaḥ like dark mountain, mēghaiḥ by clouds, aṅśumān rays of Sun, sūryaḥiva like Sun, śuśubhē resembled.

Adorned with golden ornaments (Kumbhakarna), covered with darts without being tormented he looked like a dark mountain shining like sun rays covered by clouds.

tatassarākṣasōbhīmassumitrānandavardhanam .

sāvajñamēvaprōvācavākyaṅmēghaughanissvanaḥ ।।6.67.106।।

tataḥ thereupon, bhīmaḥ terrific, saḥrākṣasaḥ that Rakshasa, mēghaughaniḥsvanaḥ sounding like rumblings of clouds, sāvajñamēva disdainfully, sumitrānandavardhanam to Lakshmana, son of Sumitra, vākyam words, prōvāca spoke.

Thereupon the Rakshasa sounding like the rumblings of clouds disdainfully spoke these words to Lakshmana, the son of Sumitra.

antakasyāpyakaṣṭēna yudhi jētāramāhavē .

yudhyatāmāmabhītēnakhyāpitāvīratātvayā ।।6.67.107।।

yudhi in battle, akaṣṭēna without difficulty, antakasyāpi even the Lord of Death, jētāram conquered, mām to me, āhavē challenging, yudhtā in battle, abhītēna without fear, tvayā by you, vīratā valiance, khyāpitā exhibited.

"You have exhibited your valour without fear in battle, challenging me who has conquered even Lord of Death without difficulty in battle."

pragṛhītāyudhasyēhamṛtyōrivamahāmṛdhē .

tiṣṭhannapragrataḥpūjyaḥkimuyuddhapradāyakaḥ ।।6.67.108।।

iha here, mahāmṛdhē great battle, pragṛhītāyudhasya weapon in hand in war, mṛtyōriva like Lord of death, agrataḥ in conflict, tiṣṭhannapi even ready to face, pūjyaḥ honourable, yuddhapradāyakaḥ who gives war, kimu to me.

"He who is ready to face me, a rival of Lord of Death in conflict, with weapons in hand in great battle is worthy of honour to me."

airāvataṅbalēnasamārūḍhōvṛtaḥsarvāmaraiḥprabhuḥ .

naivaśakrō.pisamarēsthitapūrvaḥkadācana ।।6.67.109।।

airāvatam Airavatham, samārūḍhaḥ mounted on, sarvāmaraiḥ by all Devatas, vṛtaḥ surrounded by, prabhuḥ Lord, śakrō.pi even Indra, kadācana indeed, samarē in conflict, sthitapūrvaḥ stood, naiva never.

"Indra mounted on the elephant, Airavata surrounded by all Devatas, indeed never stood before me in conflict."

adyatvayāhamsaumitrēbālēnāpi , nāpiparākramaiḥ .

tōṣitōgantumicchāmityāmanujñāpyarāghavam ।।6.67.110।।

saumitrē Saumitri, adya now, aham I, tvayā you, balēnāpiēvēnathōugaḥ even though young, parākramaiḥ in valour, tōṣitaḥ gratified, tvām your, anujñāpya taking leave of you, rāghavam Raghava, gantum to go, icchāmi wish.

"Now I am gratified with your valour, though young. Taking leave of you, I wish to go to Raghava."

yattuvīryabalōtsāhaistōṣitō.haṅraṇētvayā .

rāmamēvaikamicchāmihantuṅyasmin hatēhatam ।।6.67.111।।

vīryabalōtsāhaiḥ valour strength and enthusiasm, tvayā of you, aham I, yat that which, raṇē battle, tōṣitaḥ gratified, yasmin of your, hatē in conflict, hatam to kill, rāmamēva Rama alone, hantum will kill, icchāmi wish.

"I am gratified by your valour, strength and enthusiasm which has been exhibited by you in the battle. However, I wish to kill Rama alone."

rāmēmayātranihatēyē.nyēsthāsyantisaṅyugē .

tānahaṅyōdhayiṣyāmisvabalēnapramāthinā ।।6.67.112।।

atra there, mayā by me, rāmē Rama, nihatē put an end, saṅyugē in conflict, anyē others, yē whoever, sthāsyanti remains, tān them, pramāthinā striking down, svabalēna with my army, aham I, yōdhayiṣyāmi to fight.

"When Rama has been put to an end by me in conflict, whoever remains can be struck down by my army."

ityuktavākyaṅtadrakṣaḥprōvācastutisaṅhitam .

mṛdhēghōrataraṅvākyaṅsaumitriḥprahasanniva ।।6.67.113।।

saumitriḥ Saumitri, mṛddhē in the battlefield, iti thus, stutisaṅhitam boastful statement, uktavākyam spoken, tat that, rakṣaḥ Rakshasa, prahasanniva laughing heartily, ghōrataram dreadful, vākyam words, prōvāca replied.

When that Rakshasa made such boastful and dreadful statements in the battlefield, laughing heartily, Saumitri replied as follows.

yastvaṅśakrādibhirvarairasahyaḥprāpyapauruṣam .

tatsatyaṅnānyathāvīradṛṣṭastē.dyaparākramaḥ ।।6.67.114।।

ēṣadāśarathīrāmastiṣṭhatyadririvācalaḥ .

vīra hero, yaḥtvam What you, pauruṣam heroism, prāpya acquired, śakrādibhiḥ even Indra, vīraiḥ hero, asahyaḥ irresistible, tat that, sarvam all, anyathā otherwise, na not, satyam true, adya now, tē to you, parākramaḥ prowess, dṛṣṭaḥ witnessing, dāśarathiḥ Dasharathi, son of Dasaratha, ēṣaḥrāmaḥ Rama alone, acalaḥ immovable, adriḥiva like mountain, tiṣṭhati stands here.

"O Hero! that heroism you have acquired is irresistible even by Indra is true. Now your prowess has been witnessed. Rama stands here, immovable like a mountain."

itiśrutvāhyanādṛtyalakṣmaṇaṅ sa niśācaraḥ ।।6.67.115।।

atikramya ca saumitriṅkumbhakarṇōmahābalaḥ .

rāmamēvābhidudrāvakampayannivamēdinīm ।।6.67.116।।

niśācaraḥ night ranger, mahābalaḥ of mighty strength, saḥkumbhakarṇaḥ he, Kumbhakarna, iti thus, śrutvā hearing, lakṣmaṇam Lakshmana, anādṛtya disregarding, saumitrim Lakshmana, atikramya ca overlooking, mēdinam earth, kampayanniva to shake, rāmamēva Rama alone, abhidudrāva rushed towards.

Kumbhakarna of mighty strength, the night ranger hearing Lakshmana, rather disregarding his words, overlooking him went alone towards Rama as if shaking the earth.

athadāśarathīṅrāmōraudramastraṅprayōjayan .

kumbhakarṇasyahṛdayēsasarjaniśitān śarān ।।6.67.117।।

atha now, dāśarathiḥ Dasaratha's son, rāmaḥ Rama, raudram presided by Rudra, astram weapon, prayōjayan released, kumbhakarṇasya Kumbhakarna's, hṛdayē into the chest, niśitān sharp, śarān arrow, sasarja fixed.

Sri Rama, son of Dasaratha, now released a sharp arrow presided over by Rudra and fixed into the chest of Kumbhakarna.

tasyarāmēṇaviddhasyasahasābhipradhāvataḥ .

aṅgālamiśrāḥkruddhasyamukhānniścērurarciṣaḥ ।।6.67.118।।

rāmēṇa by Rama, viddhasya hit, sahasā at once, abhipradhāvataḥ towards, kruddhasya in anger, tasya his, mukhāt mouth, aṅgāramiśrāḥ fire mixed with flame, arciṣaḥ flames, niścēruḥ shot forth.

As Rama hit in anger, at once fire mixed with flames shot forth from Kumbhakarna's mouth.

rāmāstraviddhōghōraṅvainadanrākṣasapuṅgavaḥ .

abhyadhāvatasaṅkṛddhōharīn nidrāvayan raṇē ।।6.67.119।।

rāmāstraviddaḥ pierced by Rama's missiles rākṣasapuṅgavaḥ foremost of the Rakshasas, ghōram terrible, nardan sound, harīn Vanaras, raṇē in battle, vidrāvayan dispersing them, saṅkṛddhaḥ very furious, tam him, abhyadhāvata rushed towards.

Pierced by Rama's missiles, the foremost of the Rakshasas, Kumbhakarna was very angry and rushed towards him dispersing all the vanaras in the battle.

tasyōrasinimagnāstēśarābarhiṇavāsasaḥ .

hastācchāsyaparibhraṣṭāgadācōrvyāṅpapāta ha ।।6.67.120।।

barhiṇavāsasaḥ adorned by peacock's plumes, tēśarāḥ those arrows, tasya his, urasi breast, nimagnāḥ lost senses, asya his, hastāt from hand, paribhraṣṭā slipped, gadā mace, urvyām naturally, papāta ha fallen.

Adorned by peacock's plumes, those arrows slipped into his breast, he lost senses, his mace naturally dropped down from his hand.

āyudhāni ca sarvāṇiviprākīryantabhūtalē .

sa nirāyudhamātmānaṅyadāmēnēmahābalaḥ ।।6.67.121।।

muṣṭibhyāṅ ca caraṇābhyāṅ ca cakārakadanaṅmahat .

sarvāṇi all, āyudhāni weapons, bhūtalē on ground, viprākīryanta scattered, mahābalaḥ mighty, saḥ he, yadā in that, ātmānam himself, nirāyudham deprived of weapons, mēnē thought, muṣṭibhyāṅ ca with fists, caraṇābhyāṅ ca and feet, mahat great, kadanam senses, cakāra created havoc.

All his weapons scattered on the ground, the mighty Kumbhakarna deprived of weapons thought for himself and created havoc with his feet and fists.

sa bāṇairatividdhāṅgaḥkṣatajēnasamukṣitaḥ ।।6.67.122।।

rudhiraṅparisusrāvagiriḥprasravaṇaṅyathā .

bāṇaiḥ arrows, atividdhāṅgaḥ pierced all over excessively his limbs, kṣatajēna blood produced by injury, samukṣitaḥ produced from, saḥ he, giriḥ mountain, prasravaṇayathā like pouring, rudhiram blood, parisusrāva flowed.

Pierced by arrows excessively all over his limbs, bathing in blood flowing from the injury was like a mountain with a spring.

sa tīvrēṇa ca kōpēnarudhirēṇa ca mūrchitaḥ ।।6.67.123।।

vānarānrākṣasānṛkṣānkhādanviparidhāvati .

saḥ he, tīvrēṇa violent, kōpēna in anger, rudhirēṇaca by blood, mūrchitaḥ intensified, saḥ he, vānarān Vanaras, rākṣasān Rakshasas, ṛkṣān Bears, khādan eating, viparidhāvati went about.

Kumbhakarna in violent anger, blood flowing from the injury, went about devouring Vanaras, Rakshasas and bears.

athaśṛṅgaṅsamāvidhyabhīmaṅbhīmaparākramaḥ .

cikṣēparāmamuddhiśyabalavānantakōpamaḥ ।।6.67.124।।

atha and then, bhīmaparākramaḥ endowed with terrific valour, balavān strong, antakōpamaḥ like god of death, bhīmam terrible, śṛṅgam mountain peak, samāvidhya whirling round, rāmam to Rama, uddhiśya hurled, cikṣēpa split.

Thereupon, Kumbhakarna endowed with terrific valour like God of Death hurled towards Rama a mountain peak whirling it round which split.

aprāptamantarārāmaḥsaptabhistamajihmagaiḥ .

cicchēdagiriśṛṅgaṅtaṅpunaḥsandhāyakārmukam ।।6.67.125।।

rāmaḥ Rama, punaḥ again, kārmukam bow, sandhāya taking, taṅgiriśṛṅgam that peak of mountain, aprāptam never failing, saptabhiḥ seven, ajihmagaiḥ on its way, antarā before it reached, cicchēda split.

Rama once again taking the bow, split the peak of the mountain with seven unfailing arrows on its way even before it reached the target.

tatasturāmōdharmātmātasyaśṛṅgaṅmahattadā ।।6.67.126।।

śaraiḥkāñcanacitrāṅgaiścicchēdapuruṣarṣabhaḥ .

tataḥ then, dharmātmā righteous, puruṣarṣabhaḥ bull among men, rāmaḥ Rama, tadā then, tasya his, mahat great, śṛṅgamam peak of mountain, kāñcanacitrāṅgaiḥ adorned with gold, śaraiḥ arrows, cicchēda split.

The righteous Rama, a bull among men, taking his arrows adorned with gold split the peak of the mountain.

tanmēruśikharākāraṅdyōtamānamivaśriyā ।।6.67.127।।

dvēśatēvānarāṇāṅ ca patamānamapātayat .

śriyā falling down, dyōtamānamiva shining by the splendour of Kumbhakarna, mēruśikharākāram like peak of Meru, tat that, patamānam falling down, vānarāṇām Vanaras, dvēśatē two hundred, apātayat knocked down.

While falling down, Kumbhakarna was like Mount Meru, shining by his splendour was falling down and knocking down two hundred monkeys.

tasmin kālē sa dharmātmālakṣmaṇōrāmamabravīt ।।6.67.128।।

kumbhakarṇavadhēyuktōyōgān parimṛśanbahūn .

tasmin at that, kālē time, dharmātmā righteous, kumbhakarṇavadhē for killing Kumbhakarna, yuktaḥ plans, bahūn many, yōgān attentive, parimṛśan deliberating, lakṣmaṇaḥ Lakshmana, rāmam to Rama, abravīt said.

At that time, righteous Lakshmana who was attentively deliberating on many plans to kill Kumbhakarna, said to Rama.

naivāyaṅvānarānrājannavijānātirākṣasān ।।6.67.129।।

mattaśśōṇitagandhē na svān parāṅścaivakhādati .

rājan king, ayam this, vānarān Vanaras, naivavijānāti not knowing, rākṣasān Rakshasas, na nor, śōṇitagandhēna smell of blood, mattaḥ intoxicated, svān his people, parāṅścava foes, khādatē devouring.

"This king intoxicated with the smell of blood is not knowing his own people and foes and devouring both Vanaras and Rakshasas."

sādhvēnamadhirōhastusarvatōvānararṣabhāḥ ।।6.67.130।।

yūthapāścayathāmukhyāstiṣṭhantvasa .

vānararṣabhāḥ bull among Vanaras, ēnam on him, sādhu proper sarvataḥ all over, adhirōhastu climb up, yathāmukhyāḥ foremost like that, yūthapāśca troops also, asya his, samantataḥ all over, tiṣṭhantu stand.

Let the bulls among Vanaras climb upon him and the foremost of Vanaras and the troops stand all over.

apyayaṅdurmatiḥkālēgurubhāraprapīḍitaḥ ।।6.67.131।।

prapatanrākṣasōbhūmaunānyānhanyātlpavaṅgamān .

apyayaṅ minded, rākṣasaḥ Rakshasa, bhūmau on the ground, prapata fallen, anyān others, plavaṅgamān monkeys, na hanyāt not destroy.

Distressed by heavy weight unable to get up evil minded Rakshasa fallen on the ground will not destroy monkeys.

tasyatadvacanaṅśrutvārājaputrasyadhīmataḥ ।।6.67.132।।

tēsamāruruhurhṛṣṭāḥkumbhakarṇaṅplavaṅgamāḥ .

dhīmataḥ wise, tasyarājaputrasya that, tat those, vacanam words, śrutvā having heard, tē those, plavaṅgamāḥ monkeys, hṛṣṭāḥ happily, kumbhakarṇam on Kumbhakarna, samāruruhuḥ collected.

kumbhakarṇastusaṅkṛddhassamārūḍhaḥplavaṅgamaiḥ ।।6.67.133।।

vyadhūnayattānvēgēnaduṣṭahastīvahastipān .

plavaṅgamaiḥ on monkeys, samārūḍhaḥ climbed up kumbhakarṇastu on Kumbhakarna, saṅkakṛddhaḥ very angry, duṣṭahastī harsh elephant, hastipān iva rider, ān blowing, vēgēna speedily, vyadhūnayat shook off.

Enraged Kumbhakarna shook off the monkeys climbed on his body like a harsh elephant shakes off its rider.

tān ndṛṣṭavānirdhutānrāmōduṣṭō.yamitirākṣasaḥ ।।6.67.134।।

samutpapātavēgēnadhanuruttamamādadē .

rāmaḥ Rama, nirdhutān shaken off, tān them, dṛṣṭavā seeing, ayam that, duṣṭaḥiti thus seeing, rākṣasam towards Rakshasa, vēgēna at speed, samutpapāta took out, uttamam the best, dhanuḥ bow, ādadē went towards.

Seeing the Vanaras shaken, Rama went towards the Rakshasa instantly and took out his best bow.

krōdharaktēkṣaṇōvīrōnirdahannivacakṣuṣā ।।6.67.135।।

rāghavōrākṣasaṅrōṣābhidudrāvavēgitaḥ .

yūthapānharṣayansarvānkumbhakarṇabhayārditān ।।6.67.136।।

krōdharaktēkṣaṇaḥ with eyes turned red in anger, vīraḥ hero, rāghavaḥ Raghava, cakṣuṣā with eyes, nirdhayanniva fallen, rōṣāt in anger, vēgitaḥ quickly, kumbhakarṇabhayārditān oppressed by Kumbhakarna, sarvān all, yūthapān troop leaders, harṣayan rejoiced, rākṣasam Rakshasa, abhidudrāva went towards.

Raghava's eyes turned red with anger, went quickly in anger as monkeys and troop leaders oppressed by Kumbhakarna were rejoiced.

sa cāpamādāyabhujaṅgakalpaṅdhṛḍhajyamugraṅtapanīyacitram .

harīn samāśvāsyasamutpapātarāmōnibaddhōttamatūṇabāṇaḥ ।।6.67.137।।

Rama, taking a formidable bow which resembled a great serpent, with a quiver full of excellent arrows shining in gold that looked beautiful, went forward restoring the confidence of the monkeys.

sa vānaragaṇaistaistuvṛtaḥparamadurjayaḥ .

lakṣmaṇānucarōrāmassampratasthēmahābalaḥ ।।6.67.138।।

paramadurjayaḥ extremely difficult to win over, lakṣmaṇānucaraḥ followed by Lakshmana, rāmaḥ Rama, mahābalaḥ mighty, tu also, taiḥ both, vānaragaṇaiḥ Vanara troops, vṛtaḥ surrounded by, sampratasthē went with full conviction.

sa dadarśamahātmānaṅkirīṭinamarindamam .

sarvān samabhidhāvantaṅyathāruṣṭaṅdiśāgajam .

mārgamāṇaṅharīnkakruddhaṅrākṣasaiḥparivāritam ।।6.67.140।।

duṣṭam saw, diśāgajaṅyathā like elephant guarding the quarter, sarvān all, samabhidhāvantam pursuing, harīn for Vanaras, mārgamāṇam searching, kruddham angry, rākṣasaiḥ Rakshasa, parivāritam surrounded.

Surrounded by Rakshasas, he was searching for Vanaras, like an elephant, guarding a quarter, searches.

vnidhyamandarasaṅkāśaṅkāñcanāṅgadabhūṣaṇam .

sravantaṅrudhiraṅvaktrādvarṣāmēghamivōthatitam ।।6.67.141।।

With blood red eyes, licking the corner of his mouth with his tongue, crushing Vanara army, he looked like God of Death at dissolution.

taṅdṛṣṭavārākṣasaśrēṣṭhaṅpradīptānalavarcasam .

visphārayāmāsatadākārmukaṅpuruṣarṣabhaḥ ।।6.67.143।।

puruṣarṣabhaḥ bull among men, pradīptānalatējasam shining like fire, tam him, rākṣasaśrēṣṭham foremost of Rakshasas, dṛṣṭavā seeing, tadā then, kārmukam bow. visphārayāmāsa stretched.

sa tasyacāpanirghōṣātkupitōrākṣasarṣabhaḥ .

amṛṣyamāṇastaṅghōṣamabhidudrāvarāghavam ।।6.67.144।।

tasya his, cāpanirghōṣāt twang of bow, kupitaḥ enraged, saḥ he, rākṣasarṣabhaḥ bull among Rakshasas, taṅghōṣam that loud sound, amṛṣyamāṇadu unable to bear, rāghavam Raghava, abhidudrāva rushed.

Enraged by the loud sound of the twang of the bow, the bull among Rakshasas unable to bear rushed towards Raghava.

tatastuvātōddhatamēghakalpaṅbhujaṅgarājōttamabhōgabāhum .

tamāpatantaṅdharaṇīrābhamuvācarāmōkumbhakarṇam ।।6.67.145।।

tataḥ thereafter, rāmaḥ Rama, vātōddhatamēghakalpam like a cloud chased by wind, bhajaṅgarājōttamabhōgabāhum one whose hands were like Vasuki's body, dharaṇīdharābham mountain like, yudhi battlefield, āpatantam coming to attack, kumbhakarṇam Kumbhakarna, uvāca spoke.

Thereafter Rama spoke to Kumbhakarna, whose hands were like Vasuki's body, coming towards him to attack on the battlefield like a cloud chased by wind.

āgaccharakṣōdhipamāviṣādamavasthitō.haṅpragṛhītacāpaḥ .

avēhimāṅrākṣasavaṅśanāśanaṅyastvaṅmuhūrtādbhavitā ।।6.67.146।।

rakṣōdhipa Rakshasa king, āgaccha come, viṣādam despondency, mā to me, aham I, pragṛhītācāpaḥ with bow, avasthitaḥ stand, yaḥtvam so that, muhūrtāt in a moment, vicētāḥ destroy, bhavitā you, mām by me, rākṣasavaṅśanāśanam Rakshasa clan will be destroyed, avēhi look.

"O king of Rakshasas! Come. Do not be despondent. I stand with my bow. In a moment I will destroy you. Look, the Rakshasa clan will be put to an end."

rāmō.yamitivijñāyajahāsavikṛtasvanam .

abhyadhāvatasaṅkakṛddhōharīvanidrāvayanraṇē ।।6.67.147।।

Knowing that this is Rama, Kumbhakarna laughed in an unnatural manner making a sound and ran after scattering the monkeys in great rage.

pātayannivasarvēṣāṅhṛdayanivanaukasām .

prahasyavikṛtaṅbhīmaṅsamēghasntitōpamam ।।6.67.148।।

kumbhakarṇōmahātējārāghavaṅvākyamabravīt .

mahātējāḥ highly energetic, saḥkumbhakarṇaḥ that Kumbhakarna, sarvēṣām all over, vanaukasām forest rangers, hṛdayāni hearts, dārayanniva breaking, vikṛtam hideous manner, bhīmam terrific, mēghasntitōpamam like the rumbling sound of clouds, prahasya laughing, rāghavam Raghava, vākyam words, abravīt spoke.

Highly energetic Kumbhakarna laughing in hideous ways making sounds like rumblings of clouds breaking the hearts of forest rangers spoke these words.

nāhaṅvirādhōvijñēyō na kabandaḥkharō na ca .

na vālī na ca mārīcaḥkumbhakarṇaḥsamāgataḥ ।।6.67.149।।

aham I am, virādhaḥ Viradha, na vijñēyaḥ not Vijeya, kabandaḥ Kabhanda, na not, kharaḥ Khara, naca not also, vālī Vali, na not, mārīcaḥ ca Maricha also, na not, kumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, samāgataḥ have come.

"I am not Viradha, not Vijeya, not Kabhanda, not also Vali or Maricha. I am Kumbhakarna and have come."

paśyamēmudgaraṅbhīmaṅsarvakālāyasaṅmahat .

anēnanirjitādēvādānavāścapurāmayā ।।6.67.150।।

mē I, sarvakālāyasam made of wrought iron, bhīmam terrible, mahat great, mudgaram club, paśya see, anēna by this, purā earlier, dēvāḥ Devas, dānavāśca Danavas, nirjitāḥ won.

"See my terrible club made of wrought iron. By this I have won earlier Devatas and Danavas."

vikarṇavāsaitimāṅnāvajñātuṅtvamarhasi .

svalpā.pihi na mēpīḍārṇanāsāvināśanāt ।।6.67.151।।

vikarṇanāsaḥiti that I lost nose and ears, mām me, tvam you, avajñātum in contempt, na arhasi not look, karṇanāsāvināśanāt deprived of ears and nose, mē myself, svalpāpi not a little, pīḍā pained, na hi not have.

"Do not think I have been deprived of ears and nose and look with contempt. I do not have little pain."

darśayēkṣvākuśārdūlavīryaṅgātrēṣumēlaghu .

tatastvāṅbhakṣayiṣyāmidṛṣṭapauruṣavikramam ।।6.67.152।।

ikṣvākuśārdūla tiger of Ikshvaku clan, mē myself, laghugātrēṣu with, vīryam valour, darśaya exhibit, tataḥ that, dṛṣṭapauruṣavikramam manliness and prowess, tvām of yours, bhakṣayiṣyāmi will devour you.

"O Tiger of the Ikshvaku clan! Exhibit your manliness, prowess, and valour on me. I will eat you up later."

sa kumbhakarṇasyavacōniśamyarāmassupuṅkhān visasarjan .

tairāhatōvajrasamavēgairnacukṣubhē na vyathatēsurāriḥ ।।6.67.153।।

saḥrāmaḥ that Rama, kumbhakarṇasya Kumbhakarna's, vacaḥ words, niśamya bewildered, sapuṅkhān plumed arrows, bāṇān arrows, visasarja discharged, vajrasamavēgaiḥ at the speed of thunderbolt, taiḥ those, āhataḥ having been struck, surāriḥ enemy of Devatas, na cukṣubhē na vyathatē not shaken or agonized.

On hearing Kumbhakarna's words Rama was bewildered. He discharged plumed arrows at a speed of thunderbolt. Struck by the arrows the enemy of Devatas was not shaken or agonized.

yaissāyakaissālavarānikṛttāvālīhatōvānarapuṅgavaśca .

tēkumbhakarṇasyatadāśarīraṅvajrōpamaṅ na vyadhayāṅpracakruḥ ।।6.67.154।।

yaiḥ by that, sāyakaiḥ arrows, sālavarāḥ Sala trees, nikṛttāḥ cut down, vānarapuṅgavaḥ Vanara leaders, vālī ca Vali also, hataḥ struck, tē that, tadā then, vajrōpamam like thunderbolt, kumbhakarṇasyaśarīram Kumbhakarna's body, na vyadhayāṅpracakruḥ not able to affect him.

Those arrows which had cut down the Sala trees and the Vanara leader, Vali, which were like thunderbolts, did not affect Kumbhakarna's body.

sa vāridhārāivasāyakāstān piban śarīrēṇamahēndraśatruḥ .

jaghānarāmasyaśarapravēgaṅvyāvidhyataṅmugravēgam ।।6.67.155।।

tatasturakṣaḥkṣatajāvaliptaṅvitrāsanaṅdēvamahacamūnām .

vyāvidhyataṅmudgaramugravēgaṅnidrāvayāmāsacamūṅm ।।6.67.156।।

tataḥ then, rakṣaḥ Rakshasa, kṣatajāvaliptam covered with cuts and wounds, dēvamahācamūnām frightening even to the mighty celestials, vitrāsanam covered with blood, ugravēgam at high speed, taṅmudgaram that club, vyāvidhya scattered, harīṇām monkeys, camūm , vidrāvayāmāsa with the club.

Then Kumbhakarna with his club covered with blood and frightening even the celestials scattered the monkeys.

vāyavyamādāyatatōmahāstraṅrāmaḥpracikṣēpaniśācarāya .

samudgaraṅtēnajaghānabāhuṅ sa kṛttabāhustumulaṅnāda ।।6.67.157।।

tataḥ there upon, rāmaḥ Rama, vāyavyam wind god, mahāstram weapon, ādāya taking niśācarāya night ranger, pracikṣēpa severed, tēna his, samudgaram with the mace, bāhum from arm, jaghāna torn, kṛttabāhuḥ arm cut off, saḥ he, tumulam uproarious, nanāda noise.

Thereupon taking up the weapon of Wind God, Rama discharged on the night ranger and severed his right arm with the mace. His arm torn off, Kumbhakarna made uproarious noise.

sa tasyabāhurgiriśṛṅgakalpaḥsamudgarōrāghavabāṇakṛttaḥ .

papātatasmin harirājasainyējaghānatāṅvānaravāhinīṅ ।।6.17.158।।

giriśṛṅgakalpaḥ mountain peak, samudgaraḥ that mace, rāghavabāṇakṛttaḥ by Raghava's arrow, saḥ he, tasyabāhuḥ his arm, tasmin by this, harirājasainyē monkey king's army, papāta fell, tām them, harivāhinīṅ ca Vanara army too, jaghāna killed.

tēvānarābhagnahatāvaśēṣāḥparyantamāśrityatadāviṣaṇṇāḥ .

prapīḍitāṅgādadṛśussughōraṅnarēndrarakṣōdhipannipātam ।।6.67.159।।

tadā then, bhagnahatāvaśēṣāḥ Vanaras who escaped from getting killed and mutilated, tēvānarāḥ those Vanaras, prapīḍitāṅgāḥ feeling desperate, viṣaṇṇāḥ terrible, paryantam close, āśritya going, sughōram dreadful, narēndrarakṣōdhipasannipātam between Kumbhakarna and Rama, dadṛśuḥ witnessed.

Then the remaining Vanaras who escaped killing and mutilation went close feeling desperate and witnessed the comb at between Rama and Kumbhakarna.

sa kumbhakarṇō.stranikṛttabāhurmahāsikṛttāgraivācalēndraḥ .

utpāṭayāmāsakarēṇavṛkṣaṅtatō.bhidudrāvaraṇēnarēndram ।।6.67.160।।

astranikṛttabāhuḥ arm cut off by arrow, mahāsinā like peak cut off, kṛttāgraḥ deprived of limb, acalēndraḥiva like a mountain, saḥ he kumbhakarṇaḥ Kumbhakarna, karēṇa Palmyra, vṛkṣam tree, utpāṭayamāsa seized, tataḥ thereafter, raṇē battle, narēndram king, abhidudrāva went towards.

One arm cut off, Kumbhakarna deprived of limb looked like a mountain with peak cut off. Thereafter he seized a palmyra tree and went towards Rama.

sa tasyabāhuṅsahatālavṛkṣaṅsamudyataṅpannagabhōgakalpam .

indrāstrayuktēnajaghānarāmōbāṇēnajāmbhūnadacitritēna ।।6.67.161।।

saḥrāmaḥ that Rama, indrāstrayuktēna yoking bow charged with Indra's mantra, jāmbhūnadacitritēna decked with gold, bāṇēna arrow, tasya of his, pannagabhōgakalpam like coils of serpent, samudyatam held, satālavṛkṣam the Palmyra tree, bāhum arms, jaghāna severed.

Then Rama yoking his bow with an arrow charged with Indra's mantra and decked with gold severed Kumbhakarna's arm which was like coils of serpent and held the palmyra tree.

sa kumbhakarṇasyabhujōnikṛttaḥpapātabhūmaugirisannikāśaḥ .

vivēṣṭamānōnijāghanavṛkṣān śailānśilāvānararākṣasāṅśca ।।6.67.162।।

kumbhakarṇasya Kumbhakarna's, girisannikāśaḥ resembled a mountain, saḥbhujaḥ that arm, nikṛttaḥ severed, bhūmau on ground, papāta fell, vivēṣṭamānāḥ turning round and round, vṛkṣān trees, śailān mountains, śilāvānararākṣasāṅśca mountains, Vanaras and Rakshasas, nijaghāna crushed.

taṅchinnabāhuṅsamavēkṣyarāmaḥsamāpatantaṅsahasānadantam .

dvāvardhacandrauniśitaupragṛhyacicchēdapādauyudhirākṣasasya ।।6.67.163।।

rāmaḥ Rama, chinnabāhum with broken arms, sahasā rushing, samāpatantam towards, tam him, samavēkṣya perceiving, yudhi combat, dvau at once, niśitau sharp, ardhacandrau moon shaped, pragṛhya taking, rākṣasasya Rakshasa's, pādau feet, cicchēda split.

Perceiving Kumbhakarna with broken arms rushing towards him, Rama at once took a sharp moon shaped arrow and split his feet.

tautasyapādaupradiśōdiśaścagirērguhāścaivamahārṇavaṅ ca .

laṅkāṅ ca sēnāṅkapirākṣasānāṅvinādayantauvinipētatuśca ।।6.67.164।।

tasya his, tau both, pādau feet, pradiśaḥ quarters, diśaśca directions, girēḥ mountains, guhāścaiva even caves of Trikuta too, mahārṇavaṅca great ocean also, laṅkāṅ ca Lanka also, kapirākṣasānām even the Vanaras and Rakshasas, sēnām army, vinādayantau resounded, vinipētatuśca filled all over.

Both the feet falling on ground made a resounding noise that filled all over the four quarters, all directions, nay all mountains and caves of Trikuta and also Lanka.

nikṛttabāhudvinikṛttapādōvidāryavaktraṅbaḍabāmukhābham .

dudrāvarāmaṅsahasābhigarjan rāhuryathācandramivānta.rikṣē ।।6.67.165।।

nikṛttabāhuḥ arms broken, vinikṛttapādaḥ feet cut off, vadanāmukhābham like fire, vaktram mouth, vidārya enlarging, abhigarjan shouting, antarikṣē sky, rāhuryathā like Rahu, candramiva capturing moon, sahasā rushed, rāmam to Rama, dudrāva speedily.

Arms broken, feet cut off, dilating his mouth like fire, shouting aloud like Rahu entering moon in the sky he rushed to Rama speedily.

apūrayattasyamukhaṅśitāgrairāmaśśarairhēmapinaddhapuṅkhaiḥ .

sa pūrṇavaktrō na śaśākavaktuṅcukūjakṛcchrēṇamumūrchacāpi ।।6.67.166।।

rāmaḥ Rama, śitāgraiḥ sharp pointed, hēmapinaddhapuṅkhaiḥ gold encrusted, śaraiḥ shafts, tasya his, mukham mouth, apūrayat filled, saḥ he, pūrṇavaktraḥ mouth fully, vaktum mouth, na śaśāka not able to speak, kṛcchrēṇa moaned, cukūja shouted, mumūrchacāpi fainted.

athādadēsūryamarīcikalpaṅ sa brahmadaṇḍāntakakākalakalpam .

ariṣṭamaindraṅniśitaṅsupuṅkhaṅrāmaśśaraṅmārutatulyavēgam ।।6.67.167।।

Then Rama took up the effulgent sun beam like arrow with feathers and the destructive rod of Brahma and the Time spirit that was fatal to enemies that was fast as wind speed and charged with Indra's mantra.

taṅvajrajāmbhūnadacārupuṅkhaṅpradīptasūryajvalanaprakāśam .

mahēndravajrāśanitulyavēgaṅrāmaḥpracikṣēpaniśācarāya ।।6.67.168।।

vajrajāmbhūnadacārupuṅkham arrow encrusted with diamonds and gold, pradīptasūryajvalanaprakāśam glowing like sun's rays and fire, mahēndravajrāśanitulyavēgam resembled Indra's thunderbolt in speed, tam that, rāmaḥ Rama, niśācarāya night ranger, pracikṣēpa crushed to pieces.

Rama crushed the night ranger to pieces with his arrow encrusted with diamonds and gold, glowing like the Sun 's rays and fire which resembled Indra's thunderbolt, in speed.

sa sāyakōrāghavabāhucōditōdiśassvabhāsādaśasamprakāśayan .

vidhūmavaiśvānarabhīmadarśanōjagāmaśakrāśanivīryavikramaḥ ।।6.67.169।।

rāghavabāhucōditaḥ discharged from Rama's arm, vidhūmavaiśvānarabhīmadarśanaḥ terrific just as Vritasura's head was cut off by Indra, the Lord of gods, śakrāśanivīryavikramaḥ which was like Indra's thunderbolt, saḥsāyakaḥ like burning fire, svabhāsā by its brilliance, daśa ten, diśaḥ directions, prakāśayan shining, jagāma went.

Discharged from Rama's arm, the terrific weapon went just as the Lord of god's weapon, which was like Indra's thunderbolt burning like fire, shining by its brilliance and went in all directions and cut the head of Vritasura.

sa tanmahāparvatakūṭasannibhaṅvivṛttadaṅṣṭraṅcalacārukuṇḍalam .

cakartarakṣōdhipatēśśirastadāyathaivavṛtrasyapurāpurandaraḥ ।।6.67.170।।

saḥ that, mahāparvatakūṭasannibham lofty peak of a mountain, vivṛttadaṅṣṭram distinguished by large pointed teeth, calacārukuṇḍalam shaking ear rings, rakṣōdhipatēḥ Rakshasa king, śiraḥ head, tadā then, purā earlier, purandaraḥ Indra, vṛtrasya Vritasya, yataiva like that, cakarta severed.

The arrow (of Rama) severed the head of Rakshasa king whose body was like a lofty mountain peak, whose teeth were large and protruded, hanging earrings shaking, just as Indra severed the head of Vritasura earlier.

kumbhakarṇaśirōbhātikuṇḍalālaṅkṛtaṅmahat .

ādityē.bhyuditērātraumadhyasthaivacandramāḥ ।।6.67.171।।

kuṇḍalālaṅkṛtam adorned with earrings, mahat huge, kumbhakarṇaśiraḥ head of Kumbhakarna, rātrau night, ādityē by Aditi, uditē risen, madhyasthaḥ in the middle, candramāḥiva like the moon, bhāti shone.

The huge head of Kumbhakarna adorned with earrings was like the moon rising between the stars in the heaven at night presided by Aditi, the mother of twin gods.

tadrāmabāṇābhihataṅpapātarakṣaḥśiraḥparvatasannikāśam .

babhañjacaryāgṛhagōpurāṇiprākāramuccaṅtamapātayacca ।।6.67.172।।

rāmabāṇābhihatam killed by Rama's arrow, tat that, parvatasannikāśam like a mountain, rakṣaḥ Rakshasa śiraḥ head, pāpata fallen, caryāgṛhagōpurāṇi homes and peaks of buildings, babhañja demolished, uccam tall, tam they, prākāram defensive walls, apātayacca fell down broken.

taccātikāyaṅhimahatprakāśaṅrakṣastadātōyanidhaupapāta .

grāhānparān mīnavarānbhujaṅgān mamardabhūmica tadāvivēśa ।।6.67.173।।

tadā then, atikāyam huge body, mahatprakāśam highly shining, tat that rakṣaḥ Rakshasa, tōyanidhau ocean, papāta fell, parān other, grāhān alligators, mīnavarān fish, bhujaṅgamān serpents, mamarda crushed, tathā in the same way, bhūmim into the earth, vivēśa entered.

The shining huge body of Rakshasa fell into the ocean crushing the other beings in the ocean like alligators, fishes and serpents that entered into the earth.

tasminhatēbrāhmaṇadēvaśatraumahābalēsaṅyatikumbhakarṇē .

cacālabhūrbhūmidharāścasarvēharṣāccadēvāstumulaṅvinēduḥ ।।6.67.174।।

brāhmaṇadēvaśatrau the enemy of Brahmans and Devatas, mahābalē mighty, tasmin his, kumbhakarṇē Kumbhakarna, saṅyati having died, hatē killed, bhūḥ earth, cacāla mountains, sarvē all, bhūmidharāśca god of earth, dēvāḥ ca Devatas, harṣāt rejoiced, tumulam highly, vinēduḥ uproar.

Kumbhakarna, the enemy of Brahmans and Devatas, having been killed, the Earth, all mountains, Devatas highly rejoiced.

tatastudēvarṣimaharṣipannagāḥsurāścabhūtānisuparṇaguhyakāḥ .

sayakṣagandharvagaṇānabhōgatāḥpraharṣitārāmaparākramēṇa ।।6.67.175।।

tataḥ thereafter, dēvarṣimaharṣipannagāḥ celestial sages and sages, as well as serpents, surāśca Devatas, bhūtāni all beings, suparṇaguhyakāḥ eagles and Guhyakas, sayakṣagandharvagaṇāḥ Yaksha, Gandharvas, nabhōgatāḥ highly rejoiced, rāmaparākramēṇa by Rama's valour, santōṣitāḥ rejoiced very much.

Thereafter the celestial sages and other sages, serpents, Devatas and all beings including eagles and Guhyakas (airborne animals), Yakshas and Gandharvas rejoiced very much at Rama's valour.

tatastutētasyavadhēnabhūriṇāmanasvinōnairṛtarājabāndhavāḥ .

vinēduruccairvyathitāraghūttamaṅhariṅsamīkṣyaivayathāsurārdhitāḥ ।।6.67.176।।

tataḥ thereupon, nairṛtarājabāndavāḥ courageous kinsfolk of Ravana, bhūriṇā pained, manasvinaḥ resolute in mind, tasya vadhēna by his death, vyathitāḥ feared harim elephants, samīkṣyaiva seeing that, surārdhitāḥ yathā like the lord of Devatas, raghūttamam foremost of Raghu's , ucchaiḥ emitted, vinēduḥ loud cries

Thereupon, the courageous kinsfolk of Ravana, resolute in mind, pained by the death of Kumbhakarna, feared the foremost of Raghus, just as elephants feared seeing the Lord of Devatas, and emitted loud cries.

sa dēvalōkasyatamōnihatyasūryōyathārāhumukhādvimuktaḥ .

tathāvyabhāsīddharisainyamadhyēnihatyarāmōyudhikumbhakarṇam ।।6.67.177।।

saḥrāmaḥ Rama, yudhi in combat, kumbhakarṇam Kumbhakarna, nihatya having killed, rāhumukhāt Rahu's mouth, vimuktaḥ liberated, sūryaḥtamaḥ sun like, nihatya killed, dēvalōkasya from the abode of Devatas, yathā that way, tathā like that, harisainyamadhyē in the midst of Vanara army, vyabhāsīt shone brilliantly.

Having killed Kumbhakarna, in the combat, Rama shone brilliantly just as Sun liberated from Rahu's mouth, after dispersing the darkness of the abode of Devatas.

praharṣamīyurbhavaścavānarāḥprabuddhapadmapratimairivānanaiḥ .

apūjayan rāghavamiṣṭabhāginaṅhatērisaubhīmabalēdurāsadam ।।6.67.178।।

bahavaḥ many, vānarāḥ Vanaras, prabuddhapadmapratimaiḥiva resembling full blown lotuses, ānanaiḥ faces, praharṣam laughing, īyuḥ experienced, bhīmabalē terrific strength, ripau enemy, hatē killed, iṣṭanāṣinam got rid of, durāsadam enemy, rāghavam Raghava, apūjayan worshipped.

Many Vanaras, with their faces resembling full blown lotuses joyfully laughed and worshipped Rama for getting rid of an enemy of terrific strength.

sa kumbhakarṇaṅsurasainyamardhanam mahatsuyuddhēṣukadācanājitam .

nandahatvābharatāgrajōraṇēmahāsuraṅvṛtramivāmarādhipaḥ ।।6.67.179।।

saḥbharatāgrajaḥ That Bharata's brother, surasainyamardanam destroyer of celestial armies, mahatsu great, yuddhēṣu battles, kadācana indeed, ajitam never conquered, kumbhakarṇam Kumbhakarna, amarādhipaḥ Lord of the heaven, mahāsuram of great Devatas, vṛtram iva surrounded in circle, raṇē in combat, hatvā killed, nananda roared in joy.

Sri Rama the brother of Bharata, the destroyer of celestial armies who had never been conquered in combat as Indra, the Lord of the heavens. Seeing that the Vanaras surrounded and roared in great joy at the death of Kumbhakarna.
