[Sri Rama becomes unconscious on hearing of Sita's killing. Lakshmana prepares to fight.]

rāghavaścāpivipulaṅtaṅrākṣasavanaukasām .

śrutvāsaṅgrāmanirghōṣaṅjāmbavantamuvāca ha ।।6.83.1।।


rāghavaścāpi Raghava too, rākṣasavanaukasām Rakshasas and Vanaras, tam them, vipulam vipulama great, saṅgrāmanirghōṣam noise of the war, śrutvā hearing, jāmbavantam to Jambavantha, uvāca ha said

Hearing the great noise of war between Rakshasas and Vanaras, Rama said to Jambavantha.
saumyanūnaṅhanumatākṛtaṅkarmasuduṣkaram .

śrūyatē ca yathābhīmassumahāvāyudhasvanaḥ ।।6.83.2।।


saumya gentle, sumahān very great, bhīmaḥ terrific, āyudhasvanaḥ sound of weapons, yathā like that, śrūyatē was heard, hanumatā Hanuman, suduṣkaram very difficult karma action, kṛtam done, nūnam surely

"O gentle Jambavan! The terrifying sound of weapons is heard. Surely Hanuman has done a difficult task."
tadgacchakurusāhāyyaṅsvabalēnābhisamvṛtaḥ .

kṣipramakṣapatētasyakapiśrēṣṭhasyayudhyataḥ ।।6.83.3।।


ṛkṣapatēḥking of Bears, tat therefore, svabalēna by your army, abhisamvṛtaḥ collected together, gaccha go, yudhyataḥ to the battlefield, tasya his, kapiśrēṣṭhasya best of monkeys, kṣipram soon, sāhāyyam to help

"O King of Bears! Accompanied by your army, go to the battlefield and help the best of monkeys."
ṛkṣarākṣastathōktastusvēnānīkēnasamvṛtaḥ .

āgacchatpaścimadvāraṅhanūmānyatravānaraḥ ।।6.83.4।।


ṛkṣarājaḥking of Bears, tathēti in that way, uktvā spoken, svēna sound, anīkēna marched, samvṛtaḥ sourrounded, vānaraḥ Vanaras, hanūmān Hanuman, yatra there, paścimadvāram westerngate, āgacchat went

Rama having spoken thus, King of Bears surrounded by Vanaras went to Hanuman at the western gate.
athāyāntaṅhanūmantaṅdadarśarkṣapatipathi .

vānaraiḥkṛtasaṅgrāmaiśśvasadbhirabhisamvṛtam ।।6.83.5।।


atha and then, ṛkṣapatiḥ Lord of Bears, kṛtasaṅgrāmaiḥ who fought in war, śvasadbhiḥ sighing, vānaraiḥVanara, abhisamvṛtam accompanied by, āyāntam coming, hanūmantam Hanuman, dadarśa saw

Then the Lord of Bears saw Hanuman accompanied by Vanaras who fought in war coming sighing.
dṛṣṭāpathihanūmāṅścatadṛkṣabalamudyatam .

nīlamēghanibhaṅbhīmaṅsannivāryanyavartata ।।6.83.6।।


hanūmān ca Hanuman also, udyatam ready to fight, nīlamēghanibham like dark cloud, bhīmam terrific, tat that, ṛkṣabalam army of Bears, pathi Lord, dṛṣṭavā seeing, sannivārya to return, nyavartata he returned

Hanuman seeing the terrific army of Bears marching like a dark cloud asked them to return and he also returned with them.
sa tēnasahasainyēnasannikarṣaṅmahāyaśāḥ .

śīghramāgamyarāmāyaduḥkhitōvākyamabravīt ।।6.83.7।।


mahāyaśāḥ of great fame, saḥhe, tēna by that, sainyēnasaha accompanied by army, śīghram quickly, sannikarṣam submitted, āgamya came, duḥkhitaḥ sorrowfully, rāmāya to Rama, vākyam these words, abravītspoken

Hanuman of great fame accompanied by army quickly came to Rama and submitted as follows.
samarēyudhyamānānāmasmākaṅprēkṣatāṅpuraḥ .

jaghānarudatīṅsītāmindrajidrāvaṇātmajaḥ ।।6.83.8।।


rāvaṇātmajaḥ Ravana's son, indrajit Indrajith, samarē in war, yudhyamānānam while we were fighting the war, prēkṣatām looking, asmākam in front of us, puraḥearlier, rudatīm crying, sītām Sita, jaghāna struck

"Ravana's son, Indrajith struck Sita, who was crying in front of us looking at us while we were fighting in war."
udbhrāntacittastāṅdṛṣṭavāviṣaṇṇō.hamarindamaḥ .

tadahaṅbhavatōvṛtaṅvijñāpayitumāgataḥ ।।6.83.9।।


arindama tamer of enemies, tām her, dṛṣṭavā seeing, aham I, udbhrāntacittaḥ bewildered in mind, viṣaṇṇaḥ worried, tat that, vṛttam surrounded, bhavataḥ you, vijñāpayitum to inform you, aham I, āgataḥ have come

"O Tamer of enemies! Seeing her (Sita) bewildered in mind, worried, I have come to inform you accompanied by Vanaras."
tasyatadvacanaṅśrutvārāghavaśśōkamūrcitaḥ .

nipapātatadābhūmauchinnamūlaṅivadrumaḥ ।।6.83.10।।


tadā then, tasya his, tat vacanam words, śrutvā hearing, rāghavaḥRaghava, śōkamūrchitaḥ deluded in sorrow, chinnamūlaḥ roots cut, drumaḥiva like a tree, bhūmau on the ground, nipapāta fell

On hearing, Hanuman's words Raghava became deluded in sorrow and fell on the ground like a tree cut at the root.
taṅbhūmaudēvasaṅkāśaṅpatitaṅdṛśyarāghavam .

abhipētussamutpatyasarvataḥkapisattamāḥ ।।6.83.11।।


bhūmau on the ground, patitam fallen, dēvasaṅkāśam like god, taṅrāghavam Raghava, dṛśya seeing, kapisattamāḥ best of monkeys, samutpatya lifting him, sarvataḥ from all over, abhipētuḥ came jumping

Seeing Raghava who is equal to god fallen on the ground, and the best of monkeys lifting him, the Vanaras from all over came jumping.
āsiñcan salilaiścainaṅpadmōtpalasugandhibhiḥ .

pradahantamānāsādyaṅsahasāgnimivōdyatam ।।6.83.12।।


sahasā suddenly, udyatam risen up, pradahantam burning, agnimiva fire like, anāsādyam reaching there, ēnam that way, padmōtpalasugandhibhiḥ with lotuses and lilies fragrance, salilaiḥ water, asiñcan sprinkled

Reaching Rama, who was like a burning fire that has risen up and suddenly fallen, the Vanaras sprinkled water with fragrance of lotuses and lilies on Rama just as sprinkling water on an inextinguishable fire that has flared up suddenly.
taṅlakṣmaṇō.thabāhubhyāṅpariṣvajyasuduḥkhitaḥ .

uvācarāmamasvasthaṅvākyaṅhētvarthasamyutam ।।6.83.13।।


atha and then, suduḥkhitaḥ very worried, lakṣmaṇaḥ Lakshmana, asvastham not well, taṅrāmam him, Rama, bāhubhyām arms, pariṣvajya holding, hētvarthasaṅyutam meaningful, vākyam words, uvācaspoken

Then, Lakshmana who was very worried held the arms of Rama who was unwell and spoke these meaningful words.
śubhēvartmanitiṣṭhantaṅtvāmāryavijitēndriyam .

anarthēbhyō na śaknōtitrātuṅdharmōnirarthakaḥ ।।6.83.14।।


ārya noble, śubhē virtuous, vartmani path, tiṣṭhantam sticking to, vijitēndriyam won the senses, tvām you, dharmaḥrighteous, anarthēbhyaḥ not able to protect, trātum danger, na śaknōti not possible, nirarthakaḥis useless

"O Noble Rama! If You, who have gained over senses and sticking to a virtuous path are not protected, from this calamity by righteousness, then righteousness is useless."
bhūtānāṅsthāvārāṇāṅ ca jaṅgamānāṅ ca darśanam .

yathāsti na tathādharmastēnanāstītimēmatiḥ ।।6.83.15।।


sthāvarāṇām inanimate, jaṅgamānāṅ ca animate, bhūtānām created beings, darśanam seen (experiencing joy), yathā in the same way, asti at present, tathā like that, na not, tēna by that, dharmaḥrighteousness, nāstītiit is not, mē I, matiḥthink

" As animate and inanimate beings are seen experiencing joy at present, righteousness is not the cause of joy, I think so."
yathaivasthāvaraṅvyaktaṅjaṅgamaṅ na tathāvidham .

nāyamarthastathāyuktastvadvidhō na vipadyatē ।।6.83.16।।


sthāvaram inanimate, yathaiva in the same way, vyaktam spoken, jaṅgamaṅ ca animate also, tathāśidham being so, tathā like that, ayam this, arthaḥ meaning, na yuktaḥ not proper, tvadvidhaḥ knowing that, na vipadyatē not there

"Just as inanimate beings which are seen happy and animate are also seen in the same manner, in which case that righteousness alone prospers is not there (for a person like you would not suffer). Knowing this you should not suffer."
yadyadharmōbhavēdbhūtōrāvaṇōnarakaṅvrajēt .

bhavāṅścadharmasamyuktōnaivaṅvyasanamāpnuyāt ।।6.83.17।।


adharmaḥ unrighteousness, bhūtaḥ beings, bhavēdyadi if it is there, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, narakam hell, vrajēt will be, dharmasamyuktaḥ endowed with righteousness, bhavān ca you also, ēvam in that way, vyasanam agony, nāpnuyāt not have

"If there is unrighteousness, Ravana should be in hell. You who are endowed with righteousness should not have agony."
tasya ca vyasanābhāvādvyasanaṅcāgatētvayi .

dharmōbhavatyadharmaścaparasparavirōdhinau ।।6.83.18।।


tasya his, vyasanābhāvāt sorrowful feeling, tvayi you, vyasanam agony, āgatē experienced, dharmēṇa by righteousness, adharmam unrighteousness, adharmēṇa by unrighteousness, dharmatām righteousness, upalabhē will be acquired

" As Ravana has no sorrow and you have experienced agony the contraries of each other have changed the roles of righteousness and unrighteousness."
dharmēṇōpalabhēddharmamadharmaṅcāpyadharmataḥ .

yadyadharmēṇayujyēyuryēṣvadharmaḥpratiṣṭhitaḥ ।।6.83.19।।

yadidharmēṇaviyujyērannadharmarucayōjanāḥ .

dharmēṇacaratāṅdharmaṅcaiṣāṅdharmaphalaṅbhavēt ।।6.83.20।।


dharmēṇa by righteousness, dharmam righteousness, upalabhēt attained, adharmataḥ by unrighteous means, adharmaṅ ca unrighteous means, yēṣu also, adharmaḥunrighteousness, pratiṣṭhitaḥ is rooted, adharmēṇa by unrighteousness, yujyēran yadi if united with, adharmurucayaḥpleased with unrighteousness, janāḥpeople, dharmēṇa by duty, na viyujyēran will not, dharmēṇa as duty, dharmamrighteousness, caratām moving, ēṣām they, dharmaphalam result of following righteousness, bhavēt will attain

"The righteous attains the benefit through righteous means, and the unrighteous suffer by unrighteous means. If unrighteousness is rooted in the unrighteous and are pleased with unrighteousness they will be deprived of the result of righteousness. It is not otherwise."
yasmādarthāvivardhantēyēṣvadharmaḥpratiṣṭhitaḥ .

kliśyantēdharmaśīlāścatasmādētaunirarthakau ।।6.83.21।।


yēṣu since, adharmaḥ in the unrighteous, pratiṣṭhitaḥ is rooted, yasmāt therefore, arthāḥwealth, vivarthantē develop, dharmaśīlāḥ ca who follow dharma, kliśyantē ca suffer, tasmāt therefore, ētau both these, nirarthakau are meaningless

"Since those rooted in unrighteous develop and are wealthy, and those who follow dharma suffer both these are meaningless."
vadhyantēpāpakarmāṇōyadyadharmēṇarāghava .

vadhakarmahatō.dharmaḥ sa hataḥkiṅvadhiṣyati ।।6.83.22।।


rāghava Raghava, pāpakarmāṇaḥ sinful actions, adharmēṇa through unrighteous means, vadhyantēyadi if kills, vadhakarmahataḥ by this action of killing, saḥadharmaḥ that adharma, hataḥ of killing, kam whom, vadhiṣyatiwill be destroy

"Righteousness and unrighteousness are forms of actions, sinful or not sinful. If sinful action is unrighteous, those who have done sinful actions should suffer. Since sinful action is momentary, and as soon as the action is over unrighteousness is also gone. That being so how can unrighteousness cause pain to anyone?"
athavāvihitēnāyaṅhanyatēhantivāparam .

vidhirālipyatētēna na sa pāpēnakarmaṇā ।।6.83.23।।


athavā or else, vihitēna destroyed, ayam this, hanyatē by killing, aparam another, hantivā or kills another, tēna by that, pāpēnakarmaṇā sinful action, saḥvidhiḥ destiny, lipyatē is deprived, saḥ he, the agent, na not

"Or else if a man is destroyed by killing another, destiny which is engendered by the sinful action suffers and not the doer of sinful action."
adṛṣṭapratikārēṇatvavyaktēnāsatāsatā .

kathaṅśakyaṅparaṅprāptuṅdharmēṇārivikarṣaṇa ।।6.83.24।।


arivikarṣaṇa crusher of enemies, adṛṣṭapratikārēṇareward is not seen, tvavyaktēna how to know, asatāsatā unreal or real, dharmēṇa by righteousness, param best, prāptum attained, katham how, śakyam is it possible

"O Crusher of enemies! How does righteousness get encountered? It is not seen. How to know whether it is real or unreal? Is it possible to know that the best result is attained by righteousness."
yadisatsyātsatāṅmukhyanāsatsyattavakiñcana .

tvayāyadīdṛśaṅprāptaṅtasmātsannōpapadyatē ।।6.83.25।।


satām best among victorious, mukhya jewel, sat good, syāt yadi as such, tava your, kiñcana even little, asat evil, na syāt not accrue, tvayā by you, yat such, īdṛśam this difficulty, prāptam attained, tasmāt therefore, sat real, na upapadyatē should not have happened

"O foremost among the victorious! To you, who are a jewel no evil should accrue. Since such difficulty has been faced by you, the fact that good actions result in good destiny is not true."
athavādurbalaḥklībōbalaṅdharmō.nuvartatē .

durbalōhṛtamaryādō na sēvyaitimēmatiḥ ।।6.83.26।।


athavā or else, dharmaḥdharma, durbalaḥfeeble, klībaḥineffective, balam might, anuvartatē follows, durbalaḥfeebleness, hṛtamaryādaḥnot to follow such dharma, na sēvyaḥiti not serve like this, mē I, matiḥ think

"Or else dharma becomes feeble, ineffective, submits to might, then it is better not to follow such dharma which is feeble, I think."
balasyayadicēddharmōguṇabhūtaḥparākramē .

dharmamutsṛjyavartasvayathādharmētathābalē ।।6.83.27।।


parākramēcourageous, dharmaḥdharma, balasyaseek strength, guṇabhūtaḥyadicēt predominance of virtue, dharmam dharma, utsṛjya giving up, dharmē dharma, yathā like that, tathā it is, balē might, vartasva seek

"Giving up predominance of virtue, seek courage and submit to might for succeeding in action. Seek might just as you have sought dharma earlier for success."
athacētsatyavacanaṅdharma: kilaparantapa .

anṛtastvayyakaruṇaḥkiṅ na baddhastvayāpitā ।।6.83.28।।


parantapa scorcher of enemies, atha now, satyavacanam truthful words, dharmaḥkilacēt if you consider as dharma, anṛtaḥuntruth, tvayi you, akaruṇaḥ not compassionate, pitā father, tvayā you, kim why, na baddhaḥdid not bind

"O scorcher of enemies! If you consider speaking the truth is dharma, why did you not bind your father (who promised to give the kingdom) and was not compassionate (spoke untruth later)."
yadidharmōbhavēdbhūtaadharmōvāparantapa .

na smahatvāmuniṅvajrīkuryādijyāṅśatakratuḥ ।।6.83.29।।


parantapa scorcher of enemies!, dharmōvā if dharma alone, adharmōvā or adharma, bhūtaḥpresent, bhavēdyadi and in future, vajrīIndra, śatakratuḥ a hundred sacrifices, munim sage, hatvā killing, ijyām sacrifice, na smakuryāt not performed

"Indra killed an ascetic (Viswarupa) and did fire sacrifice. If dharma alone is his duty, he could have done hundreds of fire sacrifices and not have killed the ascetic. If adharma is duty he would have killed the ascetic and not done fire sacrifice."
adharmasaṅśritōdharmōvināśayatirāghava .

sarvamētadyathākāmaṅkākutsthakurutēnaraḥ ।।6.83.30।।


kākutsthaKakuthsa, rāghava Raghava, adharmasaṅśritaḥfollowing adharma, dharmaḥdharma, vināśayati destruction is happening, naraḥ humans, ētat in this manner, sarvam all, yathākāmam as per his desire, kurutē does

"Kakuthsa Rama! Kings followed dharma and adharma both according to context. Whether following dharma or adharma destruction is happening. Therefore, humans keep doing both as per their desire."
mamacēdaṅmataṅtātadharō.yamitirāghava .

dharmamūlaṅtvayāchinnaṅrājyamutsṛjatātadā ।।6.83.31।।


tāta dear, rāghava Raghava, ayam this, dharmaḥiti dharma like this, mama ca me too, idam thus, matam opinion, tadā then, rājyam kingdom, utsṛjatā giving up, tvayā by you, dharmamūlam dharma as root, chinnam wonderful

"Dear Raghava! In my opinion also depending on desire and context, following dharma or adharma is proper. You have severed the roots of dharma by giving up the kingdom."
arthēbhyōhipravṛddhēbhyaḥsamvṛttēbhyastatastataḥ .

kriyāḥsarvāḥpravartantēparvatēbhyaḥivāpagāḥ ।।6.83.32।।


tatastataḥ, by all those means, samvṛttēbhyaḥaugmented, pravṛddhēbhyaḥ developed, arthēbhyaḥprosperity, parvatēbhyaḥ mountains, apagāḥiva rivers flow, sarvā all, kriyāḥ actions, pravartantēhi follow

"Prosperity is augmented gradually and developed by all means just as rivers flow from mountains, all undertakings follow conducive to success."
arthēnahivimuktasyapuruṣasyālpacētasaḥ .

vicchidyantēkriyāssarvāgrīṣmēkusaritōyathā ।।6.83.33।।


arthēna by wealth, vimuktasya forsaken, alpacētasaḥmeagre intelligence, puruṣasya of men, sarvāḥkriyāḥall actions, grīṣmēsummer, kusaritōyathā dries up like that, vicchidyantēinterrupted

"Just like streams dry up in summer, if one who is of meagre intelligence and forsakes wealth, all his actions will be interrupted."
sō.yamarthaṅparityajyasukhakāmaḥsukhaidhitaḥ .

pāpamārabhatēkartuṅtadādōṣaḥpravartatē ।।6.83.34।।


sukhaiditaḥ one who has been happy, saḥ he, ayam this, artham wealth, parityajya renouncing, sukhakāmaḥ seeking happiness, pāpam sinful, kartum will perform actions, ārabhatē starts, tadā then, dōṣaḥ mistake, pravartatēproceeds

"If one who has been happy seeks happiness on renouncing wealth then proceeds to perform sinful actions it is a mistake."
yasyārthāstasyamitrāṇiyasyārthāsyasyabāndhavāḥ .

yasyārthāssapumānlōkēyasyārthāḥ sa ca paṇḍitaḥ ।।6.83.35।।


yasya his, arthāḥ wealth, tasya his, mitrāṇi friends, yasya whom, arthāḥ wealth, tasya whom, bāndhavāḥ relations, yasya whose, arthāḥ wealth, saḥ he, lōkē in this world, pumān manliness, yasya his, arthāḥ wealth, saḥ he, paṇḍitaḥ ca learned

"Friends gather round him in whom riches abide. Relations stand by him who has wealth. He is considered manly in whom wealth abides, and he is learned who has wealth."
yasyārthāssa ca vikrāntōyasyārthāssa ca buddhimān .

yasyārthāssamahābhāgōyasyārthāssamahāguṇaḥ ।।6.83.36।।


yasya whosearthāḥ wealth, saḥ ca he also, vikrāntaḥ gallant, yasya his, arthāḥ wealth, saḥ ca he is buddhimān intelligent, yasya his, arthāḥ wealth, saḥ he, mahābhāgaḥ glorious, yasya his, arthāḥ wealth, sasaḥ superior, mahāguṇaḥ of great virtues

He is gallant to whom wealth has flown, he is intelligent in whom wealth abides, he is glorious in whom wealth exists and he is superior in great virtues in whom wealth found receptacle.
arthasyaitēparityāgēdōṣāḥpravyāhṛtāmayā .

rājyamutsṛjatāvīrayēnabuddhistvayākṛtā ।।6.83.37।।


vīra heroic, rājyam kingdom, utsṛjatā giving up, tvayā by you, yēna by that, buddhi intellect having done, kṛtā do, mayā by me, arthasya wealth, parityāgē giving up, ētē those, dōṣāḥ evils, pravyāhṛtāḥfollow

'If you give up wealth the evils will follow you', said I. Now you left the kingdom. The basis on which you made such a resolve is not known to me.
yasyārthāḥdharmakāmārthāstasyasarvaṅpradakṣiṇam .

adhanēnārthakāmēnanārthaśśakyōvicinvatā ।।6.83.38।।


yasya its, arthāḥ wealth, tasya his, dharmakāmārthāḥdharma and pleasure,, wealth, sarvam all, pradakṣiṇam going round, arthakāmēna desiring wealth, vicinvatā worrying, adhanēna one who has no wealth, arthaḥ wealth, na śakyaḥ not possible

For one who has wealth all his actions of dharma would give pleasure and favourable. One who has no wealth and is worrying about it can't attain it.
harṣaḥkāmaścadarpaścadharmaḥkrōdhaśśamōdamaḥ .

arthādētānisarvāṇipravartantēnarādhipa ।।6.83.39।।


narādhipa Lord of humas, Rama, harṣaḥ delight, kāmaśca desire, darpaśca pride, dharmaḥ virtue krōdhaḥ anger, śamaḥ forgiveness, damaḥ fortitude, ētāni all these sarvāṇi everything, arthāt by wealth, pravartantē effective in action

"O Rama! Desire, delight, pride, virtue, anger, forgiveness, fortitude all these are effective through wealth."
yēṣāṅnaśyatyayaṅlōkaścaratāṅdharmacāriṇām .

tē.rthāstvayi na dṛśyantēdurdinēṣuyathāgrahāḥ ।।6.83.40।।


yēṣām these, caratām practicing, dharmacāriṇām followers of dharma, ayaṅlōkaḥ in this world, naśyati will perish, tē they, arthāḥ wealth, durdinēṣu in the renunciates, grahāḥyathā like planet, na dṛśyantē not found

"Even if there is wealth if one renunciates wealth and follows dharma in this world they perish like planets on cloudy days."
tvayipravrajitēvīragurōścavacanēsthitē .

rakṣasāpahṛtābhāryāprāṇaiḥpriyatarātava ।।6.83.41।।


vīra heroic, gurōḥ teacher, vacanē words, sthitē faithful to the promise, tvayi to you, pravrajitē leaving home, prāṇaiḥ life, priyatarā dear, tavabhāryā your wife, rakṣasā Rakshasa, apahṛtā abducted

"O heroic Rama! You have been faithful to the promise to your father and left home following dharma (giving up wealth), and your dear wife who is your life has been abducted by Rakshasa."
tadadyavipulaṅvīraduḥkhamindrajitākṛtam .

karmaṇāvyapanēṣyāmitasmāduttiṣṭharāghava ।।6.83.42।।


vīra heroic, indrajitāIndrajith, kṛtam tat having done so, vipulam very, duḥkham sorrow, adyathis karmaṇā action, vyapanēṣyāmi will get rid of the the agony, rāghava Raghava, tasmāt therefore, uttiṣṭha get up

"Get up, heroic Raghava! I will get rid of the agony caused to you by Indrajith, by the action."
utthiṣṭhanaraśārdūladīrghabāhōdhṛtavrata .

kimātmānaṅmahātmānaṅmātmānaṅ na budhyasē ।।6.83.43।।


naraśārdūla tiger among men, dīrghabāhō broad shouldered, dhṛtavrata determined, utthiṣṭha getting up, mahātmānam great soul, kṛtātmānam doer of action, ātmānam yourself, kiṅ na budhyasē why not thinking

"O tiger among men! O broad shouldered endowed with fortitude! Why do you not know yourself that you are a great soul and doer of action?"

"O sinless one! After considering the destruction of Janaka's daughter, in my anger and out of my love to you, I have spoken to you in this manner. I shall destroy Lanka, with its charioteer, elephants and horses, Rakshasa king immediately with my arrows."
