[Vibheeshana consoles Rama telling about the trick of Indrajith in killing illusory Sita. Vibheeshana urges Lakshmana to proceed to Nikumbha to fight.]

राममाश्वासयानेतुलक्ष्मणेभ्रातृवत्सले ।

निक्षिप्यगुल्मान् स्वस्थानेतत्रागच्छद्विभीषणः ।।6.84.1 ।।

भ्रातृवत्सले affectionate brother, लक्ष्मणे by Lakshmana, रामम् Rama आश्वासमाने comforting, विभीषणः Vibheeshana, गुल्मान् troops, स्वस्थाने to their respective places, निक्षिप्य assigning, तत्र there, आगच्छत् came

As Lakshmana was comforting his affectionate brother, Vibheeshana came to Rama assigning the troops to reach their respective places.
नानाप्रहरणैर्वीरैश्चतुर्भिस्सचिवैर्वृत: ।

नीलाञ्जनचयाकारैर्मातङ्गैरिवयूथप ।।6.84.2।।


नानाप्रहरणैः different kinds of weapons, नीलाञ्जनचयाकारैः dark in colour like collyrium, यूथप: troops, मातङ्गैःइव like elephants, चतुर्भिः four, सचिवै ministers:, वृतः surrounded, सः he, शोकलालसम् given to grief, महात्मानम् great soul, राघवम् Raghava, अभिगम्य reached, बाष्पपर्याकुलेक्षणान् eyes full of tears, वानरांश्चापि Vanaras also, ददृशे witnessed

Accompanied by the four ministers surrounded by four ministers resembling leaders of elephants, who looked dark like collyrium, Vibheeshana came to highsouled Rama. He witnessed Vanaras whose eyes were filled with tears.
राघवं च महात्मानमिक्ष्वाकुकुलनन्दनम् ।

ददर्शमोहमापन्नंलक्ष्मणस्याङ्गमाश्रितम् ।।6.84.3।।


महात्मानम् great soul, इक्ष्वाकुलनन्दनम् delight of Ikshvaku race, मोहम् deluded, आपन्नम् distressed, लक्ष्मणस्य Lakshmana's, अङ्कम् lap, आश्रितम् lying, राघवं च Raghava, ददर्श saw

He (Vibheeshana) saw the great soul, the delight of the Ikshvaku race deluded, distressed, and lying on the lap of Lakshmana.
व्रीडितंशोकसन्तप्तंदृष्टवारामंविभीषणः ।

अन्तर्धुःखएनदीनात्माकिमेतदितिसोऽब्रवीत् ।।6.84.5।।


सःविभीषणः that Vibheeshana, व्रीडितम् pained, शोकसन्तप्तम् immersed in grief, रामम् Rama, दृष्टवाseeing, अन्तःcondition, दुःखेन for grief, दीनात्मा depressed, एतत् all this, किम् for what, इति thus, अब्रवीत् spoke

Vibheeshana was pained to see Rama immersed in grief, depressed in spirit, and asked for What is all this grief for?
विभीषणमुखंदृष्टवासुग्रीवंतांश्चवानरान् ।

लक्ष्मणोवाचमन्दार्थमिदंबाष्पपरिप्लुतः ।।6.84.6।।


लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, विभीषणमुखम् Vibheeshana's face, सुग्रीवम् Sugriva, तान् those, वानरांश्च Vanaras also, दृष्टवा seeing, बाष्पपरिप्लुतः bathed in tears, मन्दार्थम् dull tone, इदम् thus, उवाच spoke

Lakshmana looking at Sugriva's face and also at the Vanaras, his eyes bathed in tears spoke in a dull tone.
हताइन्द्रजितासीताइतिश्रुत्वैवराघवः ।

हनूमद्वचनात्सौम्यततोमोहमुपागतः ।।6.84.7।।


सौम्य noble, राघवः Raghava, हनुमद्वचनात् Hanuman's words, सीता Sita, इन्द्रजिता by Indrajith, हता killed, इति this, श्रुत्यैव on hearing, ततः then, मोहम् deluded, उपागतः became

"O Noble one! On hearing Hanuman that Sita is killed by Indrajith, Rama is deluded', said Lakshmana to Vibheeshana."
कथयन्तंतुसौमित्रिंसन्निवार्यविभीषणः ।

पुष्कलार्थमिदंवाक्यंविसंज्ञंराममब्रवीत् ।।6.84.8।।


विभीषणःVibheeshana, कथयन्तम् started telling, सौमित्रिम् Saumithri, सन्निवार्य restraining, विसंज्ञम् unconscious, रामम् to Rama, पुष्कलार्थम् full of meaning, इदंवाक्यम् this, अब्रवीत् spoke

Vibheeshana spoke these meaningful words to Rama, who was unconscious, restraining Saumithri from speaking.
मनुजेन्द्रार्थरूपेणयदुक्ततुहनूमता ।

तदयुक्तमहंमन्येसागरस्येवशोषणम् ।।6.84.9।।


मनुजेन्द्र Lord of humans, आर्थरूपेण thinking to be true, हनूमता from Hanuman, सु, यत् that which, उक्त spoken, तत् those, सागरस्य ocean's, शोषणम् इव drying up, अयुक्तम् not possible, अहम् I, मन्ये think

"I think that what has been spoken by Hanuman as truth (that Sita has been killed) is like drying up an ocean."
अभिप्रायंतुजानामिरावणस्यदुरात्मनः ।

सीतांप्रतिमहाबाहो न च घातंकरिष्यति ।।6.84.10।।


महाबाहो mighty armed, सीतांप्रति with reference to Sita, दुरात्मनः evil minded, रावणस्य Ravana's, अभिप्रायम् opinion, जानामि do not know, घातम् killing, न करिष्यति will never do

"O mighty armed Rama! with reference to Sita, you do not know Ravana's opinion. He will never kill Sita."
याच्यमानःसुबहुशोमयाहितचिकीर्षुणा ।

वैदेहीमुत्सृजस्वेति न च तत्कृतवान्वचः ।।6.84.11।।


हितचिकीर्षुणा for his welfare, मया by me, वैदेहीम् Vaidehi, उत्सृजस्व return, इति this, सुबहुशः, याच्यमानःpleaded, तत् that, वचःwords, न कृतवान् not done

"Though I pleaded Ravana to return Vaidehi for his welfare, he did not accept my word."
नैवसाम्ना न दानेन न भेदेनकुतोयुधा ।

साद्रष्टुमपिशक्येतनैवचान्येनकेनचित् ।।6.84.12।।


सा she, साम्ना by recourse, द्रष्टुम् अपि perceived, न शक्येत not possible, दानेन by charity, न not, भेदेन by dissension, न no, युधा by war, कुतः do, अन्ये any other, केनचित् why again, नैव no chance

"She can't be perceived by recourse, by charity, by dissension or even by war. Why again any other means. There is no chance."
वानरान्मोहयित्वातुप्रतियातः स राक्षसः ।

मयामयींमहाबाहोतांविद्दिजनकात्मजाम् ।।6.84.13।।


सःराक्षसः that Rakshasa, वानरान् at Vanaras, मोहयित्वा hoodwinking, प्रतियातः withdrew, महाबाहो mighty armed, तांजनकात्मजाम् that Janaki, मायामयीम् illusion, विद्दि may know

That Rakshasa by hoodwinking the Vanaras withdrew from the battlefield. O mighty armed one! Killing of Janaki is an illusion.
चैत्यंनिकुम्भिलांनामप्राप्यहोमंकरिष्यति ।

हुतवानुपयातोहिदेवैरपिसवासवैः ।।6.84.14।।

दुराधर्षोभवत्येषसङ्ग्रामेरावणात्मजः ।


एषः in that manner, रावणात्मजः Ravana's son, निकुम्भिलांनाम by name Nikumbhilam, चैत्यम् sanctuary, प्राप्य reaching, होमम् sacrifice, करिष्यति will be doing, हुतावान् who can kill, उपयातः conjuring trick, सङ्ग्रामे in war, सवासवैः Indra, देवैरपि even Devas, दुराधर्षः very difficult, भवति will be

"Ravana's son will be reaching a sanctuary named Nikumbhilam and doing a sacrificial ritual. On returning from there it will be difficult even for Indra and Devas to be at him in war. He has done this conjuring trick.
तेनमोहयतानूनमेषामायाप्रयोजिता ।।6.84.15।।

विघ्नमन्विच्छतातत्रवानराणांपराक्रमे ।


तत्र there, वानराणाम् Vanaras, पराक्रमे prowess, विघ्नम् knowing, अन्विच्छताunchecked, मोहयता, तेन by that, नूनम् surely, एषा in that way, माया trick, प्रयोजिता using

"Knowing the prowess of Vanaras, thinking surely that they will create obstacles for the ritual, he used the trick to keep them away (to be sad and not inclined for war)."
ससैन्यास्तत्रगच्छामोयावत्तन्नसमाप्यते ।।6.84.16।।

त्यजेमंनरशार्दूलमिथ्यासन्तापगतम् ।

सीदतेहिबलंसर्वंदृष्टवात्वांशोककर्शितम् ।।6.84.17।।


नरशार्दूलः tiger among men, तत् that, यावत् whole thing, न समाप्यते before completing, ससैन्याः that army, तत्र there, गच्छामः go, आगतम् went, इमम् this, मिथ्यासन्तापम् false agony, त्यज giving up, शोककर्शितम् cause of sorrow, त्वाम् you, दृष्टवा seeing, सर्वम् all, बलम् troops, सीदतेहि distressed

"O tiger among men! We shall go there with the army before the completion of the sacrificial ritual. Give up false agony and the cause of sorrow. Seeing you all the troops are distressed."
इहत्वंस्वस्थहृदयस्तिष्ठसत्त्वसमुच्छ्रितः ।

लक्ष्मणंप्रेषयास्माभिस्सहसैन्यानुकर्षिभिः ।।6.84.18।।


त्वम् you, स्वस्थहृदयः confident at heart, सत्त्वसमुच्छ्रितः be courageous, इह now, तिष्ठ stay, सैन्यानुकर्षिभिः along with army, अस्माभिःसह with us, लक्ष्मणम् Lakshmana, प्रेषय send

"You be confident at heart and be courageous now. Send Lakshmana with us with the army."
एषतंनरशार्दूलोरावणिंनिशितैश्शरैः ।

त्याजयिष्यतितत्कर्मततोवध्योभविष्यति ।।6.84.19।।


नरशार्दूलः tiger among mortals, एषः in that way, निशितैः sharp, शरैः arrows, रावणिम् Ravana's son, तत् that, कर्म action, त्याजयिष्यति will dispel from doing, ततः then, वध्यःkilling, भविष्यति will be possible

"The tiger among mortals with his sharp arrows will dispel Ravana's son from doing the action (sacrifice) then killing him will be possible.
तस्यैतेनिशितास्तीक्ष्णाःपत्रिपत्राङ्गवाजिनः ।

पतत्रिणइवासौम्याश्शराःपास्यन्तिशोणितम् ।।6.84.20।।


निशिताः whetted, तीक्ष्णाःpointed, पत्रिपत्राङ्गवाजिनःfixed with limbs of birds in the form of feathers, एते those, शराः arrows, असौम्याःcruel, पतत्रिणःइवः like birds, तस्य his, शोणितम् blood, पास्यन्ति drink

"Those whetted and pointed arrows fixed with limbs of birds in the form of feathers will drink his (Indrajith's) blood like cruel birds."
सत्सन्दिशमहाबाहोलक्ष्मणंशुभलक्षणम् ।

राक्षसस्यविनाशायवज्रंवज्रधरोयथा ।।6.84.21।।


महाबाहो mighty armed, तम् him, राक्षसस्य Rakshasa's, विनाशाय destruction, वज्रधरःIndra, वज्रंयथा like thunderbolt, शुभलक्षणम् auspicious nature, लक्ष्मणम् Lakshmana, सन्दिश conveyed

"O mighty armed Rama! send Lakshmana endowed with auspicious qualities for the destruction of Rakshasa like Indra with thunderbolt", conveyed Vibheeshana.
मनुजवरन कालविप्रकर्षोरिपुनिधनंप्रतियत्क्षामोऽद्यकर्तुम् ।

त्वमतिसृजरिपोर्वधायवाणीममररिपोर्मथनेयथामहेन्द्रः ।।6.84.22।।


मनुजवर jewel among men, रिपुमथनंप्रति in case of destruction of foes, अद्य now, कालविप्रकर्षः wasting time, कर्तुम् doing, यत् which, न क्षमः not desirable, दिविजरिपोःपधने enemy of gods, महेन्द्रःयथा like Lord of gods, रिपोः enemy, वधाय for killing, वाणीम् Ravana's son, अतिसृज command

"O Jewel among men, wasting time in case of destruction of the enemy is not desirable. Just like the Lord of gods sent to kill the enemy of gods, you command Lakshmana to kill the enemy."
समाप्तकर्माहि स राक्षसाधिपोभवत्यदृश्यस्समरेसुरासुरैः ।

युयुत्सतातेनसमाप्तकर्मणाभवेत्सुराणामपिसंशयोमहान् ।।6.84.23।।


समाप्तकर्मा conclusion of the sacrifice, सः of him, सर्षभः foremost Rakshasa, समरे in war, सुरासुरैः Suras and Asuras, अदृश्यः invisible, भवतिहि will become, समाप्तकर्मणा after completion, युयुत्सता come for war, तेन by that, सुराणामपि even by Suras, महान् great, संशयः doubt, भवेत् will be

"On completion of the sacrifice by the Rakshasa he will become invisible for Suras and Asuras also in war. After completion even the Suras will have great doubt to come to fight with him."
