[Vibheeshana consoles Rama telling about the trick of Indrajith in killing illusory Sita. Vibheeshana urges Lakshmana to proceed to Nikumbha to fight.]

rāmamāśvāsayānētulakṣmaṇēbhrātṛvatsalē .

nikṣipyagulmān svasthānētatrāgacchadvibhīṣaṇaḥ ।।6.84.1 ।।

bhrātṛvatsalē affectionate brother, lakṣmaṇē by Lakshmana, rāmam Rama āśvāsamānē comforting, vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, gulmān troops, svasthānē to their respective places, nikṣipya assigning, tatra there, āgacchat came

As Lakshmana was comforting his affectionate brother, Vibheeshana came to Rama assigning the troops to reach their respective places.
nānāpraharaṇairvīraiścaturbhissacivairvṛta: .

nīlāñjanacayākārairmātaṅgairivayūthapa ।।6.84.2।।


nānāpraharaṇaiḥ different kinds of weapons, nīlāñjanacayākāraiḥ dark in colour like collyrium, yūthapa: troops, mātaṅgaiḥiva like elephants, caturbhiḥ four, sacivai ministers:, vṛtaḥ surrounded, saḥ he, śōkalālasam given to grief, mahātmānam great soul, rāghavam Raghava, abhigamya reached, bāṣpaparyākulēkṣaṇān eyes full of tears, vānarāṅścāpi Vanaras also, dadṛśē witnessed

Accompanied by the four ministers surrounded by four ministers resembling leaders of elephants, who looked dark like collyrium, Vibheeshana came to high-souled Rama. He witnessed Vanaras whose eyes were filled with tears.
rāghavaṅ ca mahātmānamikṣvākukulanandanam .

dadarśamōhamāpannaṅlakṣmaṇasyāṅgamāśritam ।।6.84.3।।


mahātmānam great soul, ikṣvākulanandanam delight of Ikshvaku race, mōham deluded, āpannam distressed, lakṣmaṇasya Lakshmana's, aṅkam lap, āśritam lying, rāghavaṅ ca Raghava, dadarśa saw

He (Vibheeshana) saw the great soul, the delight of the Ikshvaku race deluded, distressed, and lying on the lap of Lakshmana.
vrīḍitaṅśōkasantaptaṅdṛṣṭavārāmaṅvibhīṣaṇaḥ .

antardhuḥkhaēnadīnātmākimētaditisō.bravīt ।।6.84.5।।


saḥvibhīṣaṇaḥ that Vibheeshana, vrīḍitam pained, śōkasantaptam immersed in grief, rāmam Rama, dṛṣṭavāseeing, antaḥcondition, duḥkhēna for grief, dīnātmā depressed, ētat all this, kim for what, iti thus, abravīt spoke

Vibheeshana was pained to see Rama immersed in grief, depressed in spirit, and asked for What is all this grief for?
vibhīṣaṇamukhaṅdṛṣṭavāsugrīvaṅtāṅścavānarān .

lakṣmaṇōvācamandārthamidaṅbāṣpapariplutaḥ ।।6.84.6।।


lakṣmaṇaḥ Lakshmana, vibhīṣaṇamukham Vibheeshana's face, sugrīvam Sugriva, tān those, vānarāṅśca Vanaras also, dṛṣṭavā seeing, bāṣpapariplutaḥ bathed in tears, mandārtham dull tone, idam thus, uvāca spoke

hatāindrajitāsītāitiśrutvaivarāghavaḥ .

hanūmadvacanātsaumyatatōmōhamupāgataḥ ।।6.84.7।।


saumya noble, rāghavaḥ Raghava, hanumadvacanāt Hanuman's words, sītā Sita, indrajitā by Indrajith, hatā killed, iti this, śrutyaiva on hearing, tataḥ then, mōham deluded, upāgataḥ became

"O Noble one! On hearing Hanuman that Sita is killed by Indrajith, Rama is deluded', said Lakshmana to Vibheeshana."
kathayantaṅtusaumitriṅsannivāryavibhīṣaṇaḥ .

puṣkalārthamidaṅvākyaṅvisaṅjñaṅrāmamabravīt ।।6.84.8।।


vibhīṣaṇaḥVibheeshana, kathayantam started telling, saumitrim Saumithri, sannivārya restraining, visaṅjñam unconscious, rāmam to Rama, puṣkalārtham full of meaning, idaṅvākyam this, abravīt spoke

Vibheeshana spoke these meaningful words to Rama, who was unconscious, restraining Saumithri from speaking.
manujēndrārtharūpēṇayaduktatuhanūmatā .

tadayuktamahaṅmanyēsāgarasyēvaśōṣaṇam ।।6.84.9।।


manujēndra Lord of humans, ārtharūpēṇa thinking to be true, hanūmatā from Hanuman, su, yat that which, ukta spoken, tat those, sāgarasya ocean's, śōṣaṇam iva drying up, ayuktam not possible, aham I, manyē think

"I think that what has been spoken by Hanuman as truth (that Sita has been killed) is like drying up an ocean."
abhiprāyaṅtujānāmirāvaṇasyadurātmanaḥ .

sītāṅpratimahābāhō na ca ghātaṅkariṣyati ।।6.84.10।।


mahābāhō mighty armed, sītāṅprati with reference to Sita, durātmanaḥ evil- minded, rāvaṇasya Ravana's, abhiprāyam opinion, jānāmi do not know, ghātam killing, na kariṣyati will never do

"O mighty armed Rama! with reference to Sita, you do not know Ravana's opinion. He will never kill Sita."
yācyamānaḥsubahuśōmayāhitacikīrṣuṇā .

vaidēhīmutsṛjasvēti na ca tatkṛtavānvacaḥ ।।6.84.11।।


hitacikīrṣuṇā for his welfare, mayā by me, vaidēhīm Vaidehi, utsṛjasva return, iti this, subahuśaḥ, yācyamānaḥpleaded, tat that, vacaḥwords, na kṛtavān not done

"Though I pleaded Ravana to return Vaidehi for his welfare, he did not accept my word."
naivasāmnā na dānēna na bhēdēnakutōyudhā .

sādraṣṭumapiśakyētanaivacānyēnakēnacit ।।6.84.12।।


sā she, sāmnā by recourse, draṣṭum api perceived, na śakyēta not possible, dānēna by charity, na not, bhēdēna by dissension, na no, yudhā by war, kutaḥ do, anyē any other, kēnacit why again, naiva no chance

"She can't be perceived by recourse, by charity, by dissension or even by war. Why again any other means. There is no chance."
vānarānmōhayitvātupratiyātaḥ sa rākṣasaḥ .

mayāmayīṅmahābāhōtāṅviddijanakātmajām ।।6.84.13।।


saḥrākṣasaḥ that Rakshasa, vānarān at Vanaras, mōhayitvā hoodwinking, pratiyātaḥ withdrew, mahābāhō mighty armed, tāṅjanakātmajām that Janaki, māyāmayīm illusion, viddi may know

That Rakshasa by hoodwinking the Vanaras withdrew from the battlefield. O mighty armed one! Killing of Janaki is an illusion.
caityaṅnikumbhilāṅnāmaprāpyahōmaṅkariṣyati .

hutavānupayātōhidēvairapisavāsavaiḥ ।।6.84.14।।

durādharṣōbhavatyēṣasaṅgrāmērāvaṇātmajaḥ .


ēṣaḥ in that manner, rāvaṇātmajaḥ Ravana's son, nikumbhilāṅnāma by name Nikumbhilam, caityam sanctuary, prāpya reaching, hōmam sacrifice, kariṣyati will be doing, hutāvān who can kill, upayātaḥ conjuring trick, saṅgrāmē in war, savāsavaiḥ Indra, dēvairapi even Devas, durādharṣaḥ very difficult, bhavati will be

"Ravana's son will be reaching a sanctuary named Nikumbhilam and doing a sacrificial ritual. On returning from there it will be difficult even for Indra and Devas to be at him in war. He has done this conjuring trick.
tēnamōhayatānūnamēṣāmāyāprayōjitā ।।6.84.15।।

vighnamanvicchatātatravānarāṇāṅparākramē .


tatra there, vānarāṇām Vanaras, parākramē prowess, vighnam knowing, anvicchatāunchecked, mōhayatā, tēna by that, nūnam surely, ēṣā in that way, māyā trick, prayōjitā using

"Knowing the prowess of Vanaras, thinking surely that they will create obstacles for the ritual, he used the trick to keep them away (to be sad and not inclined for war)."
sasainyāstatragacchāmōyāvattannasamāpyatē ।।6.84.16।।

tyajēmaṅnaraśārdūlamithyāsantāpagatam .

sīdatēhibalaṅsarvaṅdṛṣṭavātvāṅśōkakarśitam ।।6.84.17।।


naraśārdūlaḥ tiger among men, tat that, yāvat whole thing, na samāpyatē before completing, sasainyāḥ that army, tatra there, gacchāmaḥ go, āgatam went, imam this, mithyāsantāpam false agony, tyaja giving up, śōkakarśitam cause of sorrow, tvām you, dṛṣṭavā seeing, sarvam all, balam troops, sīdatēhi distressed

"O tiger among men! We shall go there with the army before the completion of the sacrificial ritual. Give up false agony and the cause of sorrow. Seeing you all the troops are distressed."
ihatvaṅsvasthahṛdayastiṣṭhasattvasamucchritaḥ .

lakṣmaṇaṅprēṣayāsmābhissahasainyānukarṣibhiḥ ।।6.84.18।।


tvam you, svasthahṛdayaḥ confident at heart, sattvasamucchritaḥ be courageous, iha now, tiṣṭha stay, sainyānukarṣibhiḥ along with army, asmābhiḥsaha with us, lakṣmaṇam Lakshmana, prēṣaya send

"You be confident at heart and be courageous now. Send Lakshmana with us with the army."
ēṣataṅnaraśārdūlōrāvaṇiṅniśitaiśśaraiḥ .

tyājayiṣyatitatkarmatatōvadhyōbhaviṣyati ।।6.84.19।।


naraśārdūlaḥ tiger among mortals, ēṣaḥ in that way, niśitaiḥ sharp, śaraiḥ arrows, rāvaṇim Ravana's son, tat that, karma action, tyājayiṣyati will dispel from doing, tataḥ then, vadhyaḥkilling, bhaviṣyati will be possible

"The tiger among mortals with his sharp arrows will dispel Ravana's son from doing the action (sacrifice) then killing him will be possible.
tasyaitēniśitāstīkṣṇāḥpatripatrāṅgavājinaḥ .

patatriṇaivāsaumyāśśarāḥpāsyantiśōṇitam ।।6.84.20।।


niśitāḥ whetted, tīkṣṇāḥpointed, patripatrāṅgavājinaḥfixed with limbs of birds in the form of feathers, ētē those, śarāḥ arrows, asaumyāḥcruel, patatriṇaḥivaḥ like birds, tasya his, śōṇitam blood, pāsyanti drink

"Those whetted and pointed arrows fixed with limbs of birds in the form of feathers will drink his (Indrajith's) blood like cruel birds."
satsandiśamahābāhōlakṣmaṇaṅśubhalakṣaṇam .

rākṣasasyavināśāyavajraṅvajradharōyathā ।।6.84.21।।


mahābāhō mighty armed, tam him, rākṣasasya Rakshasa's, vināśāya destruction, vajradharaḥIndra, vajraṅyathā like thunderbolt, śubhalakṣaṇam auspicious nature, lakṣmaṇam Lakshmana, sandiśa conveyed

"O mighty armed Rama! send Lakshmana endowed with auspicious qualities for the destruction of Rakshasa like Indra with thunderbolt", conveyed Vibheeshana.
manujavarana kālaviprakarṣōripunidhanaṅpratiyatkṣāmō.dyakartum .

tvamatisṛjaripōrvadhāyavāṇīmamararipōrmathanēyathāmahēndraḥ ।।6.84.22।।


manujavara jewel among men, ripumathanaṅprati in case of destruction of foes, adya now, kālaviprakarṣaḥ wasting time, kartum doing, yat which, na kṣamaḥ not desirable, divijaripōḥpadhanē enemy of gods, mahēndraḥyathā like Lord of gods, ripōḥ enemy, vadhāya for killing, vāṇīm Ravana's son, atisṛja command

"O Jewel among men, wasting time in case of destruction of the enemy is not desirable. Just like the Lord of gods sent to kill the enemy of gods, you command Lakshmana to kill the enemy."
samāptakarmāhi sa rākṣasādhipōbhavatyadṛśyassamarēsurāsuraiḥ .

yuyutsatātēnasamāptakarmaṇābhavētsurāṇāmapisaṅśayōmahān ।।6.84.23।।


samāptakarmā conclusion of the sacrifice, saḥ of him, sarṣabhaḥ foremost Rakshasa, samarē in war, surāsuraiḥ Suras and Asuras, adṛśyaḥ invisible, bhavatihi will become, samāptakarmaṇā after completion, yuyutsatā come for war, tēna by that, surāṇāmapi even by Suras, mahān great, saṅśayaḥ doubt, bhavēt will be

"On completion of the sacrifice by the Rakshasa he will become invisible for Suras and Asuras also in war. After completion even the Suras will have great doubt to come to fight with him."
।। ityārṣēvālmīkīyēśrīmadrāmāyaṇēadikavyēyuddhakāṇḍēcaturaśītitamassargaḥ ।।
