[Hanuman and the monkey army attack the Rakshasas. Hanuman challenges Indrajith for a duel and Lakshman catches the sight of Indrajith who gets up from the fire sacrifice to retaliate.]

athatasyāmavasthāyāṅlakṣmaṇaṅrāvaṇānujaḥ .

parēṣāmahitaṅvākyamarthasādhakamabravīt ।।6.86.1।।


atha and then, rāvaṇānujaḥ Ravana's brother, tasyām them, lakṣmaṇaṅ Lakshmana avasthāyām tendered, parēṣām for enemies, ahitam not good, arthasādhakam to accomplish the task, vākyam words, abravīt spoke

Ravana's brother seeing Lakshmana spoke these words of advice to accomplish the task and which is not good for the enemies.
yadētadrākṣasānīkaṅmēghaśyāmaṅvilōkyatē .

ētadāyōdhyatāṅśīghraṅkapibhipādapāyudhaiḥ ।।6.86.2।।

"The army of Rakshasas looks like a dark cloud and let the monkeys too get engaged to fight swiftly with trees as weapons."

rākṣasēndrasutō.pyatrabhinnēdṛśyōbhaviṣyati ।।6.86.3।।


lakṣmaṇa Lakshmana, mahataḥ mighty, asyaanīkasya army of Rakshasas, bhēdanē shatter, yata that which, atra there, bhinnē broken, rākṣasēndrasutō.pi the son of Rakshasa king, dṛśyaḥbhaviṣyati will become visible

"O Lakshmana! Shatter this mighty army of Rakshasas. When it is broken Ravana's son will become visible."
satvamindrāśaniprakhyaiḥśarairavakiranparān .

abhidravāśuyāvadvainaitatkarmasamāpyatē ।।6.86.4।।

"Hero, wicked minded, conjurer, unrighteous and cruel one who is a terror for all worlds is Ravana's son. Destroy him."
vibhīṣaṇavacśrutvālakṣmaṇaśśubhalakṣaṇaḥ .

vavarṣaśaravarṣāṇirākṣasēndrasutaṅprati ।।6.86.6।।

The sky was covered with weapons of various shapes, arrows, trees, mountain peaks thrown at each other and were dreadful.
tērākṣasāvānarēṣuvikṛtānanabāhavaḥ .

nivēśayantaḥśastrāṇicakrustēsumahadbhayam ।।6.86.11।।

udatiṣṭhatadurdarṣaḥ sa karmaṇyananuṣṭhitē ।।6.86.14।।

Indrajith, who is difficult to overpower, on hearing the cries of his own army in agony got up without completing the task (of ritual).
vṛkṣāndhakārānnirgamyajātakrōdhaḥ sa rāvaṇiḥ .

ārurōharathaṅsajjaṅpūrvayuktaṅsusaṅyatam ।।6.86.15।।


jātakrōdhaḥ enraged, saḥ he, rāvaṇiḥ Indrajith, vṛkṣāndhakārāt darkness of trees, nirgamya coming out, pūrvayuktam already yoked, susaṅyutam firmly fixed, sajjam ready, ratham chariot, ārurōha ascended

sa bhīmakārmukadharaḥkālamēghasamaprabha: .

raktāsyanayanōkṛddhōmabhaumṛtyurivāntakaḥ ।।6.86.16।।


bhīmakārmukaśaraḥ armed with terrific bow and arrows, kālamēghasamaprabha: body shining like a rainy cloud, raktāsyanayanaḥ with red eyes, kṛddha: angry, saḥ he, antakaḥ like spirit of death, mṛtyuriva like death, babhau seemed

Indrajith, armed with a terrific bow and arrows, his body shining like a rainy cloud, with red eyes, angry face, seemed like the spirit of death.
dṛṣṭavaivaturathasthaṅtaṅparyavartatatadbalam .

rakṣasāṅbhīmavēgānāṅlakṣmaṇēnayuyutsatām ।।6.86.17।।

Between the skilful Rakshasas armed with sharp tridents, swords, javelins in hand, with spears in hand, bright iron bars glowing like fire, with iron axes, dreadful hammers, Bhindi palas and Hanuman, with thunderbolt like fists that descended like lightning, and slaps which descended like mountains, a huge skillful war took place.
sa dadarśakapiśrēṣṭhamacalōpamamindrajit .

sūdamānamasantrastamamitrān pavanātmajam ।।6.86.25।।


saḥindrajit that Indrajith, kapiśrēṣṭham foremost of monkeys, acalōpamam like mountain, asantrastam without weapon, amitrān enemies, sūdamānam fearless, pavanātmajam Hanuman, dadarśa witnessed

sa sārathimuvācēdaṅyāhiyatraiṣavānaraḥ .

kṣayamēvahinaḥkuryādrākṣasāmupēkṣitaḥ ।।6.86.26।।

ityuktassārathistēnayayauyatra na mārutiḥ .

vahan paramadurdharṣaṅsthitamindrajitaṅrathē ।।6.86.27।।

vāyuputraṅsamāsādya na jīvan pratiyāsyasi ।।6.86.30।।


durmatē evil- minded, rāvaṇātmaja Indrajith, śūraḥ warrior, asiyadi such, yudhyasva fight, vāyuputram son of Wind-God, samāsādya having met, jīvan life, na pratiyāsyasi not return alive

"Evil- minded hero! Fight with me back having met, you shall not return alive."
bāhubhyāṅsampratiyudhyasvayadimēdvandvamāhavē .

vēgaṅsahasvadurbuddhētatastvaṅrakṣasāṅvaraḥ ।।6.86.31।।


durbuddhē cruel, mē with me, dvandvam duel, yadi if you like, bāhubhyām arms, samprayudhyasva in duel war, āhavē come, vēgam quickly, sahasva with stand, tataḥ then, tvam you, rakṣasām among Rakshasas, varaḥforemost

"Fight with me for a duel war if you like. Come quickly and with stand, then you will become foremost among Rakshasas.
hanūmantaṅjighāṅsantaṅsamudyataśarāsanam .

rāvaṇātmajamācaṣṭē lakṣmaṇāya vibhīṣaṇa: ।।6.86.32।।


vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, samudyataśarāsanam having seated, rāvaṇātmajam Indrajith, hanūmantam Hanuman, jighāṅsantam is ready to attack, lakṣmaṇāya Lakshmana, ācaṣṭē told

yassavāsavanirjētārāvaṇasyātmasambhavaḥ .

sa ēṣarathamāsthāyahanūmantaṅjighāṅsati ।।6.86.33।।

dadarśataṅparvatasannikāśaṅrathasthitaṅbhīmabalaṅdurāsadam ।।6.86.35।।
