Sloka & Translation

[Lakshmana communicates to Sri Rama about the killing of Indrajith. Sri Rama applauds Lakshmana. Sushena treats Lakshmana's wounds and relieves him.]

rudhiraklinnagātrastulakṣmaṇaḥśubhalakṣaṇaḥ .

babhūvahṛṣṭastaṅhatvāśakrajētāramāhavē ।।6.92.1।।


rudhiraklinnagātraḥ body smeared with blood, śubhalakṣaṇaḥ auspicious marks, lakṣmaṇaḥ Lakshmana, āhavē in battle, tam him, śakrajētāram one who won Indra, hatvā killing, hṛṣṭaḥ joyful, babhūva experienced

Body having auspicious marks, smeared with blood, Lakshmana experienced the joy of having won Indra in battle.
tataḥsajāmbavantaṅcahanūmantaṅcavīryavān .

saṅnipatyamahātējāstāṅścasarvānvanaukasaḥ ।।6.92.2।।

ājagāmatataḥśīghraṅyatrasugrīvarāghavau .

vibhīṣaṇamavaṣṭabhyahanūmantaṅcalakṣmaṇaḥ ।।6.92.3।।


tataḥ then, vīryavān valiant, mahātējāḥ mighty, saḥlakṣmaṇaḥ that Lakshmana, jāmbavantam Jambavantha, hanūmantaṅ ca and Hanumantha, sarvān all, tān them, vanaukasaḥ ca Vanaras, saṅnipatya calling, tataḥ that, vibhīṣaṇam Vibheeshana, hanūmantaṅ ca Hanuman, avaṣṭabhya following, sugrīvarāghavau Sugriva, Raghava yatra there, śīghram quickly, ājagāma reached

Then Valiant and mighty Lakshmana called Jambavantha, Hanumantha, all the Vanaras, following Vibheeshana and Hanuman quickly reached Sugriva and Raghava.
tatōrāmamabhikramyasaumitrirabhivādya ca .

tasthaubhrātṛsamīpasthaḥśakrasyēndrānujōyathā ।।6.92.4।।


tataḥ thereafter, saumitriḥSaumihri, rāmam to Rama, abhikramya went close, abhivādya ca and offered his prayers, śakrasya Indra's, anujōyathā like his brother Upendra, bhrātṛsamīpasthaḥ close to his brother, tasthau stood

Thereafter Saumithri went close to Rama and offered prayers, like Indra's brother Upendra and stood close to his brother.
niṣṭanannivacāgatyarāghavāyamahātmanē .

ācacakṣētadāvīrōghōramindrajitōvadham ।।6.92.5।।


tadā then, vīraḥ heroic, āgatya coming close, mahātmanē great soul, rāghavāya to Raghava, niṣṭananniva being tired in, indrajitaḥIndrajith, ghōram terrific, vadham killed, ācacakṣē reported

Then heroic Lakshmana coming close to the great self-Raghava, in shaking tone (being tired) reported" Indrajith is killed."
rāvaṇēstuśiraśchinnaṅlakṣmaṇēnamahātmanā .

nyavēdayatarāmāyatadāhṛṣṭōvibhīṣaṇaḥ ।।6.92.6।।


tadā then, vibhīṣaṇaḥ Vibheeshana, hṛṣṭaḥ happy, mahātmanā great self, lakṣmaṇēna by Lakshmana, rāvaṇēḥ Ravana, śiraḥ head, chinnam severed, rāmāya to Rama, nyavēdayata informed

Then Vibheeshana gladly informed Rama that Ravana's son's head had been severed by great Lakshmana.
śrutvaivatumahāvīryōlakṣaṇanēndrajidvadham .

praharṣamatulaṅlēbhēvākyaṅcēdamuvāca ha ।।6.92.7।।


mahāvīryaḥ great hero, lakṣmaṇēna by Lakshmana, indrajidvadham Indrajith is killed, śrutvaivatu on hearing, atulam very, praharṣam glad, lēbhēimmediately, idam this, vākyaṅ ca words, uvāca ha spoken

As soon as Lakshmana said that Indrajith was killed, Rama was very glad and immediately spoke as follows.
sādhulakṣmaṇatuṣṭō.smikarmacāsukaraṅkṛtam .

rāvaṇērhivināśēnajitamutyapadhāraya ।।6.92.8।।


lakṣmaṇa Lakshmana, sādhu well done, tuṣṭaḥ glad, asmi am, asukaram difficult, karma deed, kṛtam done, rāvaṇēḥIndarjith, vināśēna by his fall, jitam iti winning this, upadhārayahas been achieved

"Well done, Lakshmana! I am glad. A difficult deed has been done. By the fall of Indrajith success has been achieved."
sa taṅśirasyupāghrāyalakṣmaṇaṅkīrtivardhanam .

lajjamānaṅbalātsnēhādaṅgamārōpyavīryavān ।।6.92.9।।

upavēśyatamutsaṅgēpariṣvajyāvapīḍitam .

bhrātaraṅlakṣmaṇaṅsnigdhaṅpunaḥpunarudaikṣata ।।6.92.10।।


vīryavān valiant, saḥhe, kīrtivardhanam enhancer of glory, taṅlakṣmaṇam him, Lakshmana, śirasi head, upāghrāya bending, lajjamānam shy, snēhāt lovingly, balāt forcibly, aṅkam, ārōpya drawing, bhrātarambrother, taṅlakṣmaṇam that Lakshmana, utsaṅgēlap, upavēśya making him sit, avapīḍatam wounded, pariṣvajya examining, snigdham red, punaḥpunaḥagain and again, udaikṣata looked at him

Bending the head of Lakshmana, a valiant one and enhancer of glory, who was shy of praising him, Rama lovingly, forcibly drawing him onto his lap and making him sit on examined again and again the wounded body and looked at him.
śalyasaṅpīḍitaṅśastaṅniḥśvasantaṅtuṅlakṣmaṇam .

rāmastuduḥkhasantaptaṅtaṅtuniḥśvāsapīḍitam ।।6.92.11।।

mūrdhnicainamupāghrāyabhūyaḥsaṅspṛśya ca tvaran .

uvācalakṣmaṇaṅvākyamāśvāsyapuruṣarṣabhaḥ ।।6.92.12।।


puruṣarṣabhaḥ bull among men, śalyasampīḍitam tormented body arrows, śastam by arrows, niḥśvasantam breathing heavily, lakṣmaṇam Lakshmana, duḥkhasantaptam immersed in pain, niḥśvāsapīḍitam breathing hard, tam him, lakṣmaṇam Lakshmana, bhūyaḥagain, saṅspṛśya stroking him, āśvāsya restoring his confidence, tvaranquickly, vākyam words, uvāca spoke

Lakshmana, a bull among men, body tormented by arrows, immersed in pain, breathing heavily. Rama stroking him, restoring his confidence, quickly spoke as follows.
kṛtaṅparamakaḷyāṇaṅkarmaduṣkarakarmaṇā .

adyamanyēhatēputrērāvaṇaṅnihataṅyudhi ।।6.92.13।।


duṣkarakarmaṇā one who does What is difficult for others, paramakaḷyāṇam deed which is extremely auspicious (beneficial), karma action, kṛtam done, adya now, putrē son, hatē killed, yudhi in battle, rāvaṇam Ravana, nihatam also killed, manyē think

"You have done an extremely beneficial task which is difficult for others to do. I think Ravana is killed in the battle with your action of killing Indrajith."
adyāhaṅvijayīśatrauhatētasmin durātmani .

rāvaṇasyanṛśaṅsasyadiṣṭyāvīratvayāraṇē ।।6.92.14।।

chinnōhidakṣiṇōbāhuḥ sa hitasyavyapāśrayaḥ .

vibhīṣaṇahanūmadbhyāṅkṛtaṅkarmamahadraṇē ।।6.92.15।।


vīra hero, durātmani evil minded, tasmin his, śatrau arrows, hatē killed, adya now, ahamI, vijayī victorious, raṇē in battle, tvayā by you, diṣṭyā, nṛśaṅsasya, rāvaṇasya Ravana's, dakṣiṇaḥright, bāhuḥhand, chinnōhi shattered, saḥ he, tasya his, vyapāśrayaḥhi taking refuge, raṇē in combat, vibhīṣaṇahanūmadbhyām by Vibheeshana and Hanuman, mahat great, karma action, kṛtam was done

'Ravana was depending on Indrajith indeed. Now by that a great action of severing his right hand in comb at by Vibheeshana and Hanuman, I consider victorious.'
ahōrātraistribhirvīraḥkathañcitavandipātitaḥ .

viramitraḥkṛtō.smyadyaniryāsyatihirāvaṇaḥ ।।6.92.16।।

balavyūhēnamahatāśrutvāputtraṅnipātitam .


vīraḥ hero, tribhiḥ three, ahōrātraiḥ nights, kathañcit indeed, vinipātitaḥ made short, adya now, niramitraḥ rid of enemy, kṛtaḥdoneasmi I, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana's, putram son, nipātitam made short, śrutvā hearing, mahatā large, balavyūhēna army troop niryāsyatihi will come and return

'Hero! In three days and nights indeed, you have made short of Indrajith. Hearing that Ravana's son has been made short of, Ravana will come now with large army troops.'
taṅputravadhasantaptaṅniryāntaṅrākṣasādhipam ।।6.92.17।।

balēnāvṛtyamahatānihaniṣyāmidurjayam .


putravadhasantaptam sad about son's death, niryāntam coming forth, durjayam difficult to win, taṅ him rākṣasādhipam Rakshasa Lord, mahatā huge, balēna with army, āvṛtya turning towards, nihaniṣyāmi will put an end to him

'On hearing of his son's death, the Rakshasa Lord will come forth with a huge army. Turning towards him I will put an end to him.'
tvayālakṣmaṇanāthēnasītā ca pṛthivī ca mē ।।6.92.18।।

na duṣprāpāhatētasmin śakrajētaricāhavē .


lakṣmaṇa Lakshmana, nāthēna protector, tvayā by you, āhavē myself, tasmin your śakrajētari Indra's enemy, hatē killed, mē my, sītā Sita, pṛthivī ca and earth also, duṣprāpā difficult, na not

Lakshmana, with you as my protector and Indra's enemy killed, neither Sita nor earth will be difficult to get back.
sataṅbhrātaramāśvāsyapariṣvajya ca rāghavaḥ ।।6.92.19।।

rāmaḥsuṣēṇaṅmuditassamābhāṣyēdamabravīt .


rāghavaḥ Raghava, saḥrāmaḥ that Rama, taṅbhrātaram his brother, āśvāsya restored confidence, pariṣvajya ca embraced, muditaḥ happily, suṣēṇam Sushena, samābhāṣya inviting, idam thus, abravīt spoke

Rama, the celebrated scion of Raghu dynasty, restored the confidence of Lakshmana and embraced him happily. He invited Sushena and spoke as follows.
saśalyō.yaṅmahāprājñassaumitrirmitravatsalaḥ ।।6.92.20।।

yathābhavatisusvasthastathātvaṅsamupācara .


mahāprājñaḥ very wise, mitravatsalaḥ loved by friends, saśalyaḥ those arrows, ayaṅsaumitriḥ this Saumithri, susvasthaḥ paining, yathā like this, bhavati you may, tathā that way, tvam you, samupācara treat him

"O very wise Sushena! Treat Saumithri in such a way that this Lakshmana, loved by friends pained by the arrows pierced, will be relieved."
viśalyaḥkriyatāṅkṣipraṅsaumitrissavibhīṣaṇaḥ ।।6.92.21।।

ṛkṣvānarasainyānāṅśūrāṇāṅdrumayōdhinām .

yēcāpyanyē.trayudhyantisaśalyāvraṇinastathā ।।6.92.22।।

tē.pisarvēprayatnēnakriyantāṅsukhinastathā .


savibhīṣaṇaḥ that Vibheeshana, saumitriḥ Saumithri, kṣipram quickly, viśalyaḥ, kriyatām be treated, ṛkṣvānarasainyānām army of Bears, drumayōdhinām who fight with trees, śūrāṇām heroes, yē ca they also, anyē others, atra there, yudhyanti in the battle, saśalyāḥ the arrows, tathā so also, vraṇinaḥ wounds, tēsarvē.pi of all also, tathā so also, prayatnēna by effort, sukhinaḥ make happy, kriyantām healed

"Let Vibheeshana and Saumithri be treated quickly. Let all the army of Bears and others who fought with trees, and the heroes be treated. Let all others who fought in the battlefield and wounded be also healed by your effort and make them happy."
ēvamuktasturāmēṇamahātmāhariyūthapaḥ ।।6.92.23।।

lakṣmaṇāyadaraunastassuṣēṇaḥparamauṣadham .


rāmēṇa by Rama, ēvam in that way, uktaḥ spoken, mahātmā great self, hariyūthapaḥVanara leader, saḥsuṣēṇaḥ that Sushena, lakṣmaṇāya to Lakshman, nastaḥ through nose, paramauṣadham supreme medicine, dadau gave

Spoken by Rama in that manner, the great Vanara leader, Sushena gave supreme medicine to Lakshman through his nose.
sa tasyagandhamāghrāyaviśalyassamapadyata ।।6.92.24।।

tadānirvēdanaścaivasaṅrūḍhavraṇaēva ca .


saḥ he, tadā then, tasya his, gandham fragrance, āghrāya breathing in, viśalyaḥ, nirvēdanaścaiva freed from arrows, saṅrūḍhavraṇaēva ca rid of pain from wounds, samapadyata restored to normal state

He then inhaled the fragrance and got freed from arrows, the pain of wounds and restored to normal state.
vibhīṣaṇamukhānāṅ ca suhṛdāṅrāghavājnāyā ।।6.92.25।।

sarvavānaramukhyānāṅcikitsāmakarōttadā .


tadā then, rāghavājñajnāyā by Rama's order, vibhīṣaṇamukhānām Vibheeshana and other leaders, suhṛdām friends, sarvavānaramukhyānām all Vanara leaders, cikitsām having treated, akarōt performed

Then by Rama's order Vibheeshana and other friends and all Vanara leaders were healed.
tataḥprakṛtimāpannōhṛtaśalyōgatavyatha: ।।6.92.26।।

saumitrirmuditastatra kṣaṇēna vigatajvaraḥ .


tataḥ then, saumitriḥ Saumithri, hṛtaśalyaḥ freed from arrows, gatavyatha: relieved from pain, vigatajvaraḥ anguish gone, kṣaṇēna in a moment, prakṛtim nature, āpannaḥ having restored, tatra there, mumudē happy

Then Saumithri, freed from arrows, relieved from pain, anguish gone in a moment, and naturally restored, was happy.
tadaivarāmaḥplavagādhipastathāvibhīṣaṇaścarkṣapatiścajāmbavān .

āvēkṣyasaumitrimarōgamuthatitaṅmudāsasainyāssuciraṅjaharṣirē ।।6.92.27।।


tadaiva at that time, rāmaḥ Rama, tathā so also, plavagādhipaḥ monkey leader, vibhīṣaṇaśca at Vibheeshana, jāmbavān Jambavan, kṣapatiśca with their, sasainyāḥ with army, ārōgam free from wounds, uthatitam getting up, saumitrim Saumithri, āvēkṣya seeing, suciram long time, jaharṣirē full of joy

At that time, Rama, also the monkey leader, and Vibheeshana, Jambavan with their army seeing Lakshmana getting up, free from wounds were full of joy.
apūjayatkarma sa lakṣmaṇasyasuduṣkaraṅdāśarathirmahātmā .

babhūvahṛṣṭōvānarēndrōniśamyataṅśakrajitaṅnipātitam ।।6.92.28।।


mahātmā great self, saḥdāśarathiḥ that Dasharatha's son, lakṣmaṇasya Lakshmana's, suduṣkaram very difficult, karma deed, apūjayat praised, vānarēndraḥ Vanara king, taṅśakrajitam that victory over Indrajith, yudhi in battle, nipātitam fallen, niśamya struck, sṛṣṭaḥdelighted, babhūva moved

Rama, the great son of Dasharatha, praised Lakshmana and others for the very difficult deed performed by them. Vanara leaders were very happy with the victory over Indrajith struck down and fallen.
।। ityārṣēvālmīkīyēśrīmadrāmāyaṇēādikāvyēyuddhakāṇḍēdvinavatitamassargaḥ ।।
This is the end of the ninety second sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
