[Ravana laments over Indrajith's death, departs to kill Sita. Suparsva prevents Ravana from the dastardly action.]

tataḥpaulasatayasacivāśarutavācēnadarajitōvadhama .

ācacakaṣurabhijañāyadaśagarīvāyasavayathā: ।।6.93.1।।


tataḥ then, paulasatayasacivāḥ ministers of Paulastya (Ravana of Paulastya dynasty), inadarajitaḥIndrajith, vadhama killed, śarutavā hearing, savayathā: distressing, abhijañāya having known, daśagarīvāya to ten-headed Ravana, ācacakaṣuḥ reported

Then, having known about the distressing fall of Indrajith, the ministers of Ravana reported to the ten-headed Ravana.
yudadhēhatōmahārājalakaṣamaṇēnatavātamajaḥ .

vibhīṣaṇasahāyēnamiṣatāṅnōmahādayutiḥ ।।6.93.2।।


mahārāja O King, tava your, mahādayutiḥ highly glorious, ātamajaḥ son, yudadhē in battle, naḥ not, miṣatāma all of us were seeing, vibhīṣaṇasahāyēna assisted by Vibheeshana, lakaṣamaṇēna by Lakshmana, hataḥ killed

"O King! Your glorious son was killed by Lakshmana with the assistance of Vibheeshana, as we were witnessing."

lakaṣamaṇēnahataśaśūraḥputarasatēmahēnadarajita ।।6.93.3।।

gatasasaparamānalōkānaśaraisasanatāpayalakaṣamaṇama .

jitavēnadaraṅkathamadayatavaṅlakaṣamaṇasayavaśaṅgataḥ .


hā ha, rākaṣasacamūmukhaya Rakshasa army chief, mamavatasa my son, mahābala might, inadarama Indra, jitavā had won, tavama such, adaya now, kathama how, lakaṣamaṇasaya Lakshmana's, vaśaṅgataḥ was a victim

'My son who was a chief of the Rakshasa army, a mighty one, who has won even Indra, how has he become a victim of Lakshmana'?
nanutavamiṣubhiḥkarudadhōbhinadayāḥkālānatakāvapi ।।6.93.7।।

manadarasayāpiśṛṅagāṇikiṅpunaralakaṣamaṇaṅyudhi .


karudadhaḥ angry, tavama you, iṣubhiḥ arrows, kālānatakauapi like time spirit, manadarasaya Mandara mountain, śṛṅagāṇayapi the peak of, bhinadayāḥ will pierce, nanuyudhi in battle, lakaṣamaṇama Lakshmana, kiṅpunaḥ why again

'When angry, you could pierce with arrows even the time spirit or peak of Mandara mountain, why to speak of Lakshmana again'?
adayavainasavatōrājābhūyōbahumatōmama ।।6.93.8।।

yēnādayatavaṅmahābāhō saṅyukataḥkāladharamaṇā .


mahābāhō mighty-armed, yēna by this, adaya today, tavama you, kāladharamaṇā by virtue of Time, saṅyukataḥ joining, vaivasavataḥ Yama, rājā king, mama my, adaya today, bhūyaḥ become, bahumataḥ esteemed

'O mighty armed! Today by virtue of time you have joined Yama and become esteemed King'.
ēṣapanathāḥsuyōdhānāṅsaravāmaragaṇēṣavapi ।।6.93.9।।

yaḥkṛtēhanayatēbharatusasapumānasavaragamṛcachati .


saravāmaragaṇēṣavapi noble warriors, suyōdhānāma path trodden, ēṣaḥin that way, panathāḥ path, yaḥ that which, bharatuḥkṛtē for the king, hanayatē is killed, saḥpumāna man, savaragama heaven, ṛcachati attains

'Killed in war for the cause of the king and treading the path of noble warriors, one attains the heaven. Even for a human it is desirable'.
adayadēvagaṇāsasaravēlōkapālāmaharaṣayaḥ ।।6.93.10।।

hataminadarajitaṅdṛṣaṭavāsukhaṅsavapasayanatinirabhayāḥ .


adaya today, inadarajitama Indrajith, hatama killed, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, saravē all, dēvagaṇāḥ Devatas in heaven groups, lōkapālāḥ guardians of the worlds, maharaṣayaḥ great sages, nirabhayāḥ fearless, sukhama happy, savapasayanati comfortably

'Today, seeing Indrajith killed, Devatas in heaven, guardians of the worlds, great sages would be fearless and be happy and comfortable'.
adayalōkāsataraya: kṛtasanāpṛthivī ca sakānanā ।।6.93.11।।

ēkēnēnadarajitāhīnāśūnayēvaparatibhātimē .

Today without Indrajith alone the three worlds (earth, heaven, and underworld) including forests are desolate, dark, and lustreless to me.
adayanairṛtakanayānāṅśarōṣayāmayanataḥpurēravama ।।6.93.12।।

karēṇusaṅaghasayayathāninādaṅgirigahavarē .


adaya today, anataḥpurē in the gynaecium, nairṛtakanayānāma Rakshasa maidens, ravama cries, girigahavarē in the caves, karēṇusaṅaghasaya like elephants, ninādaṅyathā roaring like, śarōṣayāmi will hear

'Today in the gynaecium we will hear the cries of Rakshasa maidens like the roaring of elephants in the cave'.
yauvarājayaṅ ca laṅakāṅ ca rakaṣāṅsi ca paranatapa ।।6.93.13।।

mātaraṅmāṅ ca bhārayāśacakavagatō.sivihāyanaḥ .

mamanāmatavayāvīragatasayayamasādanama ।।6.93.14।।

parētakārayāṇikārayāṇiviparītēhivaratasē .

'O hero! My obsequies should have been done by you. It is peculiar that I have to perform'.

mamaśalayamanudadhṛtayakavagatō.sivihāyanaḥ .


saḥtavama you, sugarīvē Sugriva, jīvati living, lakaṣamaṇēna Lakshmana, rāghavē Raghava, mama me, śalayama arrow, anudadhṛtaya deserting, naḥ not, vihāya doing, kava where, gataḥasi have you gone

'While Sugriva is living, Lakshmana and Raghava also, deserting me, you have gone. Where have you gone'?
ēvamādivilāpārataṅrāvaṇaṅrākaṣasādhipama ।।6.93.16।।

āvivēśamahāna kōpaḥputaravayasanasamabhavaḥ .


ēvamādivilāpāratama lamenting in this way, distressed, rākaṣasādhipama Rakshasa king, rāvaṇama Ravana, putaravayasanasamabhavaḥ sorrow of son deserting, mahāna very kōpaḥ angry, avivēśa took over

Distressed Ravana was lamenting in this way on account of his son deserting, as anger had taken over him.
parakṛtayākōpanaṅhayēnaṅputarasayapunarādhayaḥ ।।6.93.17।।

dīpataṅsanadīpayāmāsuragharamē.rakamivaraśamayaḥ .


parakṛtayā by nature, kōpanama angry, ēnama that too, putarasaya son, ādhayaḥ now, gharamē righteous, dīpatama glowing, arakama sun, raśamayaḥ iva beams off sun, punaḥagain, sanadīpayāmāsuḥ makes him brighter

By nature, he is angry. Now with the loss of his son, he was glowing like the Sun that shines brighter by the rays in summer.
lalāṭēbharukuṭībhiśacasaṅagatābhiravayarōcata ।।6.93.18।।

yugānatēsahanakaraisatumahōramibhirivōdadhiḥ .

Ravana's eyebrows contracted on his forehead, he shone like the waves in the great ocean with crocodiles at the time of dissolution of the universe.
kōpādavijṛmabhamāṇasayavakatarādavayakatamivajavalana ।।6.93.19।।

utapapātasadhūmānagiravṛtarasayavadanādiva .


kōpāta in anger, vijṛmabhamāṇasaya yawned, vakatarāta mouth, vayakatama spoke, javalananiva like flame, vṛtarasayaVrtra's, vadanādiva face like, sadhūmānagiḥ fire with smoke, utapapāta burst forth

As Ravana yawned in anger, fire with smoke burst forth from his mouth like Vrtra'.
sa putaravadhasanatapataśaśūraḥkarōdhavaśaṅgataḥ ।।6.93.20।।

samīkaṣayarāvaṇōbudadhayāvaidēhayārōcayadavadhama .


putaravadhasanatapataḥ pondering over the death of son, śūraḥ asura, saḥrāvaṇaḥ that Ravana, karōdhavaśama overtaken by fury, gataḥwent, budadhayā thinking in mind, samīkaṣaya reviewed, vaidēhayāḥVaidehi's, vadhama destruction, rōcayata thought

Pondering over the death of his asura son, Ravana was overtaken by fury, and reviwed thinking about the destruction of Vaidehi.
tasayaparakṛtayārakatē ca rakatēkarōthānagināpi ca ।।6.93.21।।

rāvaṇasayamahāghōrēdīpatēnētarēbabhūvatuḥ .


tasayarāvaṇasaya Ravana's, parakṛtayā nature, rakatē ca red, karōdhānagināpi ca through the fire of anger, rakatē red, mahāghōrē very dreadful, nētarē eyes, dīpatē glowing, babhūvatuḥshone

By nature, Ravana's eyes are red, through the fire of anger it was even more red glowing and very dreadful.
ghōraṅparakṛtayārūpaṅtatatasayakarōdhāganimūrachitama ।।6.93.22।।

babhūvarūpaṅkarudadhasayarudarasayēvadurāsadama .


parakṛtayā naturally, ghōrama dreadful, karōdhāganimūrachitama deluded with fire of anger, tasaya his, tata rūpama that form, karudadhasaya due to fury, rudarasayaiva like Rudra's, durāsadama threatening, babhūvaappeared

His eyes are naturally dreadful, deluded with fire of anger; his form was like Rudra's and threatening.
tasayakarudadhasayanētarābhayāṅparāpatananāśarṛbinadavaḥ ।।6.93.23।।

dīpābhayāmivadīpatābhayāṅsāraciṣasasanēhabinadavaḥ .


karudadhasaya enraged, tasaya his, nētarābhayāma from both eyes, dīpatābhayāma flaming, dīpābhayāma flaming lamp, sāraciṣaḥ flaming, sanēhabinadavaḥ drops of oil, aśarubinadavaḥ drops of tears, parāpatana dropped

Just as drops of oil drop from flaming lamps, tears dropped from his enraged flaming eyes.
danatāvanidaśatasatasayaśarūyatēdaśanasavanaḥ ।।6.93.24।।

yanatarasayāvēṣaṭayamāṇasaya mahatō dānavairiva .

kālānagirivasaṅakarudadhōyāṅyāṅdiśamavaikaṣata ।।6.93.25।।

tasayāṅtasayāṅbhayatarasatārākaṣasāsasanaviliyalirē .


kālānagiriva like fire of universal destruction, saṅakarudadhaḥ highly enraged, yāṅyāma wherever, diśama direction, avaikaṣata looking, tasayāṅtasayāma in those and those, rākaṣasāḥ Rakshasa, bhayatarasatāḥ fearing, saṅviliyalirē hid themselves

Fearing Ravana who was enraged like the time of universal destruction, the Rakshasashid themselves in the very quarter he was looking.
tamanatakamivakarudadhaṅcarācaracikhādiṣuma ।।6.93.26।।

vīkaṣamāṇaṅdiśasasaravārākaṣasānōpacakaramuḥ .

The Rakshasas could not go near Ravana who was moving in anger in all directions like the moving and unmoving creations move when chased by the god of death.

abaravīdarakaṣasāṅmadhayēsaṅsatamabhayiṣurāhavē .

To provoke Rakshasas for battle, an angry Ravana, the king of Rakshasas, spoke as follows.
mayāvaraṣasahasarāṇicaritavāparamaṅtapaḥ ।।6.93.28।।

tēṣutēṣavavakāśēṣusavayamabhūḥparitōṣitaḥ .


mayā by me, varaṣasahasarāṇi thousand years, paramama supreme, tapaḥ austerities, caritavā having done, tēṣutēṣu several times, avakāśēṣu in that occasion, savayamabhūḥ self-born creator, paritōṣitaḥpleased him

'I have done penance for thousands of years several times and am a pleased self-born creator'.
tasayaivatapasōvayuṣaṭayāparasādācachasavayamabhuvaḥ ।।6.93.29।।

nāsurēbhayō na dēvēbhayōbhayaṅmamakadācana .


tasaya by that, tapasaḥēva penance alone, vuṣaṭayā power, savayamabhuvaḥcreator Brahma, parasādācachahaving been pleased, mama to me, kadācanaonce, asurēbhayaḥ from Asuras, bhayama fear, na not, dēvēbhayaḥ Devas, na no

'By the power of the penancedone by me once, creator Brahma has given me reward, pleased with my penance. I have no fear of Asuras or Devas'.
kavacaṅbarahamadatataṅmēyadāditayasamaparabhama ।।6.93.30।।

dēvāsuravimaradhēṣu na bhinanaṅvajaramuṣaṭibhiḥ .


mē I, barahamadatatama given by Brahma, āditayasamaparabhama effulgent like sun, yata that which, kavacama shield, dēvāsuravimaradhēṣu Deva and Asura conflicts, vajaramuṣaṭibhiḥ thunder bolts in their fists, na bhinanama not break

'I was given a shield by Brahma, effulgent like the Sun which the Devas or Danavas could not break with their thunderbolt fists'.
tēnamāmadayasamayukataṅrathasathamihasamayugē ।।6.93.31।।

paratīyātakō.dayamāmājausākaṣādapipuranadaraḥ .

rāmalakaṣamaṇayōrēvavadhāyaparamāhavē .


dēvāsuravimaradhēṣu when Devas and Asuras fought, tadā then, atiparasananēna very pleased, savayamabhuvā creator Brahma, saśarama that arrow, mahata great, yata which, kāramukama bow, paramāhavē supreme one, rāmalakaṣamaṇayōḥ with Rama and Lakshmana, vadhāyaiva for destruction, adaya today, tūrayaśataiḥ hundreds of trumpets, utathāpayatāma be brought

'Let that supreme bow and the great arrows bestowed to me, by Brahma the creator who was pleased, when I fought in battle between Devas and Asuras, be brought to destroy Rama and Lakshmana today accompanied by hundreds of trumpets.'

māyayāmamavatasēnavañacanārathaṅvanaukasāma ।।6.93.36।।

kiñacidēvahataṅtatarasītēyamitidaraśitama .

tadidaṅtathayamēvāhaṅkariṣayēpariyamātamanaḥ ।।6.93.37।।

vaidēhīṅnāśayiṣayāmikaṣatarabanadhumanuvaratāma .

itayēvamukatavāsacivānakhaṅagamāśuparāmṛśata ।।6.93.38।।


ahama I, ātamanaḥ myself, pariyama rejoice, tata idama that now, tathayamēva in the same way, kariṣayē will do, kaṣatarabanadhuma lowly kshatriya, anuvaratāma very dear, vaidēhīma Vaidehi, nāśayiṣayāmi will destroy, sacivāna ministers, itayēvama thus, ukatavā spoken, āśu his, khaṅagama sword, parāmṛśatataken

"I myself will rejoice now in the same way (as Indarjith had done for cheating) making it true. I will destroy that lowly kshatriya, Rama's very dear Vaidehi". Having spoken like that to the ministers he took up the sword."

niṣapapāta sa vēgēnasabhārayaḥsacivairavṛtaḥ ।।6.93.39।।

saṅakarudadhaḥkhaḍagamādāyasahasāyataramaithilī ।।6.93.40।।


vimalā pure, amabara sky, varacasama shine, guṇasamapananaṅ excellent, utapalutaya taking, sa vēgēna instantly, sabhārayaḥaccompanied by wife, sacivairavṛtaḥ surrounded by ministers, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, putaraśōkēna on account of sorrow by the death of his son, bhṛśamākulacētanaḥ utterly confused, saṅakarudadhaḥ enraged, khaḍagamādāya taking sword, sahasā, yatara there, maithilīMythili

In a totally confused state on account of the death of his son, he went to Mythili taking the excellent sword, which was shining resembling pure sky, feeling enraged, accompanied by his wife, and surrounded by the ministers.
varajanataṅrākaṣasaṅparēkaṣayasiṅhanādaṅvicakaruśuḥ .

ūcuśacānayōnayamāliṅagayasaṅakarudadhaṅparēkaṣayarākaṣasama ।।6.93.41।।


varajanatama in the abode, rākaṣasama Rakshasas, parēkaṣaya observing, siṅhanādama lion roar, vicukaruśuḥ emitted,, saṅkarudadhama very furious, rākaṣasama Rakshasa, parēkaṣaya seeing, anayōnayama one another, āliṅagaya embracing, ūcuśaca spoke to one another

( As Ravana marched) the Rakshasas in the abode roared like a lion seeing enraged Ravana and embraced each other (thinking of Ravana's victory) and spoke to one another.

lōkapālāhicatavāraḥkarudadhēnānēnatarajitāḥ ।।6.93.42।।

bahavaḥśataravaśacānayēsamayugēṣavabhipātitāḥ .

"Seeing Ravana, the two brothers will tremble. By Ravana's fury all the four rulers of the world (Indra, Yama, Varuna, Kubera), would have disappeared. He has struck down many other enemies in wars."
tariṣulōkēṣuratanānibhuṅakatēcāhṛtayarāvaṇaḥ ।।6.93.43।।

vikaramē ca balēcaivanāsatayasayasadṛśōbhuvi .


rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, tariṣu three, lōkēṣu worlds, ratanāni gems, āhṛtaya collected, bhuṅakatē ca as tax, vikaramē ca in might, balēcaiva in prowess also, asaya his, sadṛśaḥequal, bhuvi in the world, nāsati not there

"Ravana has collected gems from the three worlds as tax. There is none equal to him in might and prowess in this world."
tēṣāṅsañajalapamānāmaśōkavanikāṅgatāma ।।6.93.44।।

abhidudarāvavaidēhīṅrāvaṇaḥkarōdhamūrachitaḥ .


tēṣāma in that manner, sañajalapamānānāma talking to each other, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, karōdhamūrachitaḥ deluded with anger, aśōkavanikāma Ashoka grove, gatāma went, vaidēhīma Vaidehi, abhidudarāva went fast

As the Rakshasas were talking in that manner, Ravana, deluded with anger, went fast to Vaidehi in Ashoka grove.
vārayamāṇaḥsusaṅakarudadhaḥsuhṛdabhirahitabudadhibhiḥ ।।6.93.45।।

abhayadhāvatasaṅakarudadhaḥkhēgarahōrōhiṇīmiva .


susaṅakarudadhaḥ highly enraged, hitabudadhibhiḥ his well-wishers, suhṛdabhiḥ friends, vārayamāṇaḥ obstructing, saṅakarudadhaḥ angry Mars, garahaḥplanet, khē in sky, rōhiṇīmiva like Rohini, abhayadhāvata darted

Highly enraged Ravana, darted just as planet Mars rushed to Rohini in the sky, even while his well-wishers were obstructing.
maithilīrakaṣayamāṇāturākaṣasīraninaditā ।।6.93.46।।

dadaraśarākaṣasaṅkarudadhaṅnisatariṅśavaradhāriṇama .

taṅniśāmayasavisatariṅśaṅvayathitājanakātamajā ।।6.93.47।।

nivārayamāṇaṅbahuśaḥsuhṛdabhiranivaratinama .


maithilī Mythili,, rakaṣayamāṇā guarded, rākaṣasīra, rakshasi women, aninaditā irreproachable, karudadhaṅ angry, rākaṣasaṅ Rakshasa, dadaraśa seeing, varadhāriṇama bearing an excellent, sanisatariṅśaṅ crossing, nisatariṅśama kept back, suhṛdabhiḥ friends, bahuśaḥ many times, nivārayamāṇama obstructed, anivaratinama not receding, tama him, niśāmaya reaching, janakātamajā Janaka's daughter, vayathitā distressed

While irreproachable Mythili was being guarded by rakshasi women, she saw him bearing an excellent sword and crossing. When he was repeatedly stopped by friends and obstructed, he was not receding and reaching Janaka's daughter.
sītāduḥkhasamāviṣaṭāvilapanatīdamabaravīta ।।6.93.48।।

yathāyaṅmāmabhikarudadhaḥsamabhidaravatisavayama .

vadhiṣayatisanāthāṅmāmanāthāmivaduramatiḥ ।।6.93.49।।


sītā Sita, duḥkhasamāviṣaṭā filled with sorrow, vilapanatī crying, idama this, abaravīta spoke, duramatiḥ evil minded, ayama you are, abhikarudadhaḥ angry, yathā so also, māma me, abhidaravati will kill, sanāthāma with protector, māma me, anāthāmiva like an orphan, vadhiṣayati will kill

Thus spoke Sita filled with sorrow crying," This evil minded angry one is coming to me to kill me as though I am an orphan even though I have a protector."
bahuśaśacōdayāmāsabharatāraṅmāmanuvaratāma .

bhārayābhavaramasavētiparatayākhayātōdharuvaṅmayā ।।6.93.50।।

sō.yaṅmāmanupasathānēvayakataṅnairāśayamāgataḥ .

karōdhamōhasamāviṣaṭōnihanatuṅmāṅsamudayataḥ ।।6.93.51।।


bharatārama husband, anuvaratāma devoted, māma me, bhavabhārayā his consort, ramasava revel, iti thus, bahuśaḥ perhaps, cōdayāmāsa entreated, mayā by me, dharuvama surely, paratayākhayātaḥ retaliated, saḥ him ayama I, anupasathānē having been rejected, māma by me, vayakatama said, nairāśayama dejected, āgataḥ has come, karōdhamōhasamāviṣaṭaḥ filled with anger and infatuation, nihanatuma to kill, māma me, hanatuma kill, udayataḥ is evident

'I who am devoted to my husband and this Ravana wanted me to revel with him. He has been entreated by me several times. Surely, he, having been rejected by me is dejected, filled with anger and infatuation, intends to kill me, is evident'.
athavātaunaravayāgharaubharātaraurāmalakaṣamaṇau .

mananimitatamanārayēṇasamarē.dayanipātitau ।।6.93.52।।


athavā or else, naravayāgharau tiger among men, bharātarau brothers, taurāmalakaṣamaṇau both Rama and Lakshmana, anārayēṇa unworthy Ravana, adaya today, mananimitatama for my cause, samarē in war, nipātitau fallen

'Or else, have the two brothers Rama and Lakshmana fallen to unworthy Ravana on my account'?
bhairavōhimahānanādōrākaṣasānāṅśarutōmayā .

bahūnāmihahṛṣaṭānāṅtathāvikarōśatāṅpariyama ।।6.93.53।।


iha here, hṛṣaṭānāma rejoiced, tathā like that, pariyama loving, vikarōśatāma calling loudly, bahūnāma many, rākaṣasānāma Rakshasas, bhairavaḥ loud, mahāna huge, nādaḥ noise, mayā by me, śarutaḥhi was heard

Many Rakshasas rejoiced, calling out their loved ones loudly, making huge noise, were heard.
ahōdhiṅamananimitatō.yaṅvināśōrājaputarayōḥ .

athavāputaraśōkēnaahatayārāmalakaṣamaṇau ।।6.93.54।।

vidhamiṣayatimāṅraudarōrākaṣasaḥpāpaniśacayaḥ .


ahō, Wow, dhiṅamananimitatō.yaṅ for my cause, vināśō destruction, rājaputarayōḥ for the princes,, athavā or else, putaraśōkēna on account of the death of son, ahatayā not able to kill, rāmalakaṣamaṇau Rama and Lakshmana, vidhamiṣayati who does not hesitate, māṅ me, raudarō fierce, rākaṣasaḥ Rakshasa,, paniśacayaḥ resolved to kill

Wow! Has the destruction of the two brothers brought about on account of the grief of the death of his son or on my account? Not able to kill Rama and Lakshmana, has this fierce Rakshasa who does not hesitate, resolved to kill me?
hanūmatasatutadavākayaṅ na kṛtaṅkaṣudarayāmayā ।।6.93.55।।

yadayahaṅtasayapṛṣaṭhēvatadāyāsamanirajitā .

nādayaivamanuśōcēyaṅbharaturaṅakagatāsatī ।।6.93.56।।


kaṣudarayā foolish woman, mayāI am, hanūmataḥ Hanuman, tata then, vākayama words, na kṛtama not did, tadā then, ahama I, anirajitā mounted, tasaya on his, pṛṣaṭhēna back, ayāsaṅyadi no doubt, bharatuḥ husband, aṅakagatāsatī on the lap of husband, adaya now, ēvama in this way, na anuśōcēyama not thought over

'I am a foolish woman. I did not follow Hanuman's advice and had I left mounted on his back, no doubt I would be on my husband 's lap. I did not think in this way'.
manayētuhṛdayaṅtasayāḥkausalayāyāḥphaliṣayati .

ēkaputarāyadāputaraṅvinaṣaṭaṅśarōṣayatēyudhi ।।6.93.57।।


ēkaputarā only son, yadā this, putarama son, yudhi in battle, vinaṣaṭama perished, śarōṣayatē will think, tasayāḥ her, kausalayāyāḥ Kausalya's, hṛdayama heart, phaliṣayati break, manayē I think

'Kausalya will think her only son has been killed in the battle. I think her heart would break'.
sāhijanama ca bālayaṅ ca yauvanaṅ ca mahātamanaḥ .

dharamakārayāṇirūpaṅ ca rudatīsaṅsamariṣayati ।।6.93.58।।


sā she, rudatī crying, mahātamanaḥ great self, janama ca of his birth, bālayaṅ ca of childhood also, yauvanaṅ ca of youth, dharamakārayāṇi his rightful actions, rūpaṅ ca his form, saṅsamariṣayati will keep remembering

'She will be crying and keep remembering his birth, childhood, youth, and his rightful actions, and his charm'.
nirāśānihatēputarēdatatavāśarādadhamacētanā .

aganimāvēkaṣayatēnūnamāpōvāpiparavēkaṣayati ।।6.93.59।।


putarē O son, nihatē killed, nirāśā disappointed, acētanā lost sentience, śarādadhama obsequies, datatavā offering, nūnama surely, aganima in fire, āvēkaṣayatē will keep waiting, āpaḥ water, paravēkaṣayativāpi may be drown herself

'Son killed, Kausalya will be disappointed, lost sentience will be offering obsequies, surely and enter fire or water and drown'.
dhigasatukubajāmasatīṅmanatharāṅpāpaniśacayāma .

yananimitatamimaṅśōkaṅkausalayāparatipatasayatē ।।6.93.60।।


kausalayā Kausalya, yananimitatama for this reason, imama this great, śōkama grief, paratipatasayatēasatīma this grief was caused, pāpaniśacayāma sinful resolve, kubajāma hunch-back, manatharāma Mandara, dhika be burnt, asatu surely

'Because of the sinful resolve of hunch back Mandara, this grief has come to Kausalya surely. Let her be burnt'.
itayēvaṅmaithilīṅdṛṣaṭavāvilapanatīṅtapasavinīma .

rōhiṇīmivacanadarēṇavināgarahavaśaṅgatāma ।।6.93.61।।

ētasaminananatarētasayaamātayaḥśīlavāna śuciḥ .

supāraśavōnāmamēdhāvīrāvaṇaṅrakaṣasēśavarama ।।6.93.62।।

nivārayamāṇaḥsacivairidaṅvacanamabaravīta .


itayēvama in this manner, vilapanatīma grieving, tapasavinīma austere, canadarēṇavinā absence of moon, garahavaśama fallen under the sway of planet, gatāma gone, rōhiṇīmiva like Rohini, maithilīma Mythili also, dṛṣaṭavā seeing, maithilīma Mythili, tasaya her, amātayaḥ king, śīlavāna upright, śuciḥ pure, mēdhāvī wise, supāraśavōnāmaSuparsva, sacivaiḥministers, nivārayamāṇaḥ stopping, rākaṣasēśavarama Lord of Rakshasas, rāvaṇama Ravana, idama this, vacanama words, abaravīta spoke

Seeing Mythili in this manner grieving, just as Rohini fell under the sway of the Mars planet in the absence of the moon, being away from her husband, Suparsva, an upright minister of Ravana who was pure and wise spoke these words of advice to the Lord of Rakshasas in spite of other ministers trying to stop him.
kathaṅnāmadaśagarīva sākaṣadavaiśaravaṇānuja ।।6.93.63।।

hanatumicachasivaidēhīṅkarōdhādadharamamapāsaya ca .


sākaṣāta being direct, śaravāṇānuja brother of Kubera, daśagarīva : ten headed, karōdhāta in fury, dharamama righteousness, apāsaya casting, vaidēhīma Vaidehi, hanatuma kill, kathama how, icachasi do you desire

"You being the direct brother of Kubera (one of the guardians of the world), ten head Lord desires to seek Vaidehi in fury and kill her casting righteousness?"
vēdavidayāvaratasanātaḥsavakaramaniratasatathā ।।6.93.64।।

satariyaḥkasamādavadhaṅvīramanayasērākaṣasēśavara .


vīra hero, rākaṣasēśavara Lord of Rakshasas, vēdavidayāvaratasanātaḥ made a vow of celibacy essential for study of vedic lore, tathā so also, savakaramanirataḥ engaged in you obligatory duties, kasamāta how, satariyaḥ a woman, vadhama killing, manayasē think of

"O Hero! Lord of Rakshasas! You made a vow of celibacy essential for Vedic study, so also engaged in your obligatory duties. Do you think of killing a woman?"
maithilīṅrūpasamapananāṅparatayavēkaṣasavapārathiva ।।6.93.65।।

tasaminanēvasahāsamābhirāhēvakarōdhamutasṛja .


pārathiva King, rūpasamapananāma endowed with charm, maithilīma Mythili, paratayavēkaṣasava think over, asamābhiḥsaha you also, āhavē in battle, karōdhama anger, tasaminanēna him only, utatasṛjaexhibit

"O King! Mythili is endowed with charm. Your anger may be exhibited on Rama in battle (not Sita)'."
abhayutathānaṅtavamadayaivakṛṣaṇapakaṣacaturadhaśīma ।।6.93.66।।

kṛtavānirayāhayamāvāsayāṅvijayāyabalairavṛtaḥ .


tavama you, adayaiva in this way, kṛṣaṇapakaṣacaturadaśīma fourteenth day of the dark fortnight, abhayutathānama starting, kṛtavā doing, balaiḥ army, vṛtaḥ surrounded, amāvāsayāma on the fifteenth day, dark day, vijayāya victory, nirayāhi start

"Today being the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight, start on the next day that is the fifteenth dark day surrounded by the army and win."
śūraḥdhīmāna rathīkhaḍagīrathaparavamāsathitaḥ ।।6.93.67।।

hatavādāśarathiṅrāmaṅbhavāna parāpasayasimaithilīma .


śūraḥ shrewd warrior, dhīmāna wise, rathī car warrior, khaḍagī sword, bhāvana of yours, rathaparavarama foremost chariot, āsathitaḥ seated, dāśarathima Dasharatha's son, rāmama Rama, hatavā kill, maithilīma Mythili, parāpasayasi attain

"Shrewd car-warrior, you are wise. Seated in the foremost chariot with your sword, kill Dasharatha's son and attain Sita."
sa tadadurātamāsuhṛdānivēditaṅvacaḥsudharamayaṅparatigṛhayarāvaṇaḥ .

gṛhaṅjagāmathatataśacavīrayavāna punaḥsabhāṅ ca parayayausuhṛdavṛtaḥ ।।6.93.68।।


durātamā evil minded, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, suhṛdā friend, nivēditama tendered, sudharamayama righteous, vacaḥ words, paratigṛhaya taking, gṛhama seizing, jagāma go, atha now, vīrayavāna heroic one, suhṛdavṛtaḥ surrounded by friends, tataḥ then, punaḥsabhāṅ ca again to the council, parayayau journey

Accepting the righteous words of advice tendered by his friend, evil minded Ravana again went home and started to go to the council.
।। itayāraṣēvālamīkīyēśarīmadarāmāyaṇēādikāvayēyudadhakāṇaḍētarinavatitamasasaragaḥ ।।
