[Commanded by Ravana, the Rakshasa army departs to the battlefield. Destruction of Rakshasa army by Sri Rama's powerful arrows.]

sa paraviśayasabhāṅrājādīnaḥparamaduḥkhitaḥ .

niṣapādāsanēmukhayēsiṅhaḥkarudadhaivaśavasana ।।6.94.1।।


dīnaḥ piteous, paramaduḥkhitaḥ very sad, saḥrājā that king, sabhāma council, paraviśaya entered, karudadhaḥ angry, siṅhaḥiva like lion, śavasana sighing, mukhayē chief, āsanē seat, niṣasāda sat

Ravana, the king entered the council, angry like a lion, looking piteous, very sad and sat on the seat.
abaravīcaca sa tānasaravāna balamukhayāna mahābalaḥ .

rāvaṇaḥparāñajaliravākayaṅputaravayasanakaraśitaḥ ।।6.94.2।।


mahābalaḥ endowed with mighty prowess, putaravayasanakaraśitaḥ shrunken on account of son, saḥrāvaṇaḥ that Ravana, parāñajaliḥ greeting with folded hands, tāna them, saravāna all, balamukhayāna army chiefs, vākayama words, abaravīcacha spoke

Ravana, endowed with mighty prowess, shrunken on account of his son, greeting all the army chiefs with folded hands spoke as follows.
saravēbhavanatasasaravēṇahasatayaśavēnasamāvṛtāḥ .

nirayānaturathasaṅaghaiśacapādātaiśacōpaśōbhitāḥ ।।6.94.3।।


saravē all, bhavanataḥ of you, saravēṇa all, hasatavaśavēna elephants horses, samāvṛtāḥ collected, rathasaṅaghaiśaca also chariots, pādātaiśaca foot soldiers too, upaśōbhitāḥ shining, nirayānatu march

ēkaṅrāmaṅparikaṣipayasamarēhanatumarahatha .

varaṣanataśaśaravaraṣāṇiparāvṛṭa kālaivāmabudāḥ ।।6.94.4।।


ēkama one, rāmama Rama, parikaṣipaya encompassing, samarē in war, parāvṛṭakālē monsoon, amabudāḥiva like the sky, śaravaraṣāṇi rain of arrows, varaṣanataḥ raining, hanatuma kill, arahatha ought to do

athavāhaṅśaraisatīkaṣaṇairabhinanagātaraṅmahāhavē .

bhavadabhiḥśavōnihanatāsamirāmaṅlōkasayapaśayataḥ ।।6.94.5।।


athavā or else, ahama I, mahāhavē huge, tīkaṣaṇaiḥ sharp, śaraiḥ arrows, bhavadabhi: bhinanagātarama limbs are struck by you, rāmama Rama, lōkasaya world, paśayataḥ looks at, śavaḥ I, nihanatāsami I shall kill

"I shall kill him with huge sharp arrows as the world looks at Rama, once his limbs are struck by you."
itayētadavākayamādāyarakaṣasēnadarasayarākaṣasāḥ .

nirayayusatērathaiḥśīgharairanānānīkaiśacasaṅyutāḥ ।।6.94.6।।


tē they, rākaṣasāḥ Rakshasa, rākaṣasēnadarasaya Rakshasa king's, iti thus, ētata all that, vākayama words, ādāya hearing, śīgharaiḥ swiftly, rathaiḥ on chariots, nānānīkaiśaca diverse battalions, saṅyutāḥ together, nirayayuḥ departed

On Rakshasa king speaking like that, all the diverse battalions together departed swiftly on chariots.
parighāna paṭaṭasāṅśacaivaśarakhaṅagaparaśavadhāna .

śarīrānatakarāna saravēcikaṣipuravānarāna parati ।।6.94.7।।

vānarāśacadarumānaśailānarākaṣasānaparaticikaṣipuḥ .


saravē all, śarīrānatakarāna capable of destroying the life of body, parighāna iron bars, paṭaṭasāṅśacava clubs, śarakhaṅagaparaśavadhāna arrows. swords and axes, vānarāna parati on Vanaras, cikaṣipuḥ hurled, vānarāśaca Vanaras, rākaṣasāna parati over Rakshasas, darumāna trees, śailāna rocks, cikaṣipuḥ attacked

All the Rakshasas threw at the Vanaras iron bars, clubs, axes, swords, and arrows, which were capable of destroying the life. Vanaras also attacked Rakshasas with trees and rocks.
sa saṅagarāmōmahābhīmasasūrayasayadayanaṅparati ।।6.94.8।।

rakaṣasāṅvānarāṇāṅ ca tumulasasamapadayata .

By the time of sunrise, the most terrific war started between Vanaras and Rakshasas, which became tumultuous.
tēgadābhiśacacitarābhiḥparāsaiḥkhaḍagaiḥparaśavadhaiḥ ।।6.94.9।।

anayōnayaṅsamarējaghanusatadāvānararākaṣasāḥ .


tē they, vānararākaṣasāḥ Vanaras and Rakshasas, tadā then, citarābhiḥ wonderful, gadābhiḥ maces, parāsaiḥ darts, khaḍagaiḥ swords, paraśavadhaiḥ axes, samarē in war, anayōnayama one another, jaghanuḥ attacked

The Vanaras and Rakshasas attacked one another with wonderful maces, darts, swords, and axes in war.
ēvaṅparavṛtatēsaṅagarāmēhayadabhutaṅsumahadarajaḥ ।।6.94.10।।

rakaṣasāṅvānarāṇāṅ ca śānataṅśōṇitavisaravaiḥ .


ēvama in that manner, saṅagarāmē in war, paravṛtatē in progress, adabhutama wonderful, sumahata huge, rajaḥdust, rakaṣasāma Rakshasas, vānarāṇāṅ ca Vanaras also, śōṇitavisaravaiḥ by the flow of blood, śānatama subsided

As the war was in progress, wonderful dust had risen which subsided by the flow of blood of Vanaras and Rakshasas.
mātaṅagarathakūlāśacavājimatasāsayadhavajadarumāḥ ।।6.94.11।।

śarīrasaṅaghāṭavahāḥparasasaruḥśōṇitāpagāḥ .


mātaṅagarathakūlāḥ elephants and chariots as banks, vājimatasayāḥ horses like fish, dhavajadarumāḥ staffs as trees, śarīrasaṅaghāṭavahāḥ dead bodies as logs of wood, śōṇitāpagāḥ rivers of blood, parasasaruḥ flowed

There with rivers of blood flowing, elephants and chariots were like banks, horses were like fish, staff of chariots like trees and dead bodies as logs of wood seemed.
tatasatēvānarāḥsaravēśōṇitaughaparipalutāḥ ।।6.94.12।।

dhavajavaramarathānaśavānanānāparaharaṇāni ca .

āpalutayāpalutayasamarēvānarēnadarābabhañacirē ।।6.94.13।।


tataḥ then, saravē all, tē of them, vānarāḥ Vanaras, śōṇitaughaparipalutāḥ bathed in blood, samarē in war, vānarēnadarāḥ leaders of Vanaras, dhavajavaramarathāna staff of chariots, aśavāna horses, nānāparaharaṇāni ca all kinds of weapons, āpalutaya leaping, āpalutaya and jumping, babhañajirē broke

Leaping and jumping the Vanaras and also the leaders of Vanaras bathed in blood broke all kinds of weapons, staff of chariots and the horses.
kēśāna karaṇalalāṭaṅ ca nāsikāśacapalavaṅagamāḥ .

rakaṣasāṅdaśanaisatīkaṣaṇairanakhaiśacāpivayakaratayana ।।6.94.14।।


palavaṅagamāḥ monkeys, tīkaṣaṇaiḥ sharp, daśanaiḥ teeth, nakhaiśacāpi nails, rakaṣasāma Rakshasas, kēśāna hair, karaṇalalāṭāṅśaca ears, forehead, nāsikāśacāpi noses, vayakaratayana tore off

The monkeys with their sharp teeth and nails tore off the hair, ears, noses, and forehead of the Rakshasas,
ēkaikaṅrākaṣasaṅsaṅakhayēśataṅvānarapuṅagavāḥ .

abhayadhāvanataphalinaṅvṛkaṣaṅśakunayōyathā ।।6.94.15।।


saṅakhayē number of, ēkaikama each one, rākaṣasama of the Rakshasas, śatama hundred, vānarapuṅagavāḥ Vanara leaders, phalinama laden with fruits, vṛkaṣama trees, śakunayōyathā like birds, abhayadhāvanata attacked

Just as trees laden with fruits are attacked by birds, each one of the Rakshasas was attacked by hundreds of Vanaras.
tadāgadābhiraguravībhiḥparāsaiḥkhaḍagaiḥparaśavadhaiḥ .

nirajaghanuravānarānaghōrānarākaṣasāḥparavatōpamāḥ ।।6.94.16।।


tadā then, paravatōpamāḥ mountain like forms, rākaṣasāḥ Rakshasa, guravībhiḥ heavy, gadābhiḥ maces, parāsaiḥkhaḍagaiḥ darts, swords, paraśavadhaiḥ axes, ghōrānafrightening, vānarāna Vanaras, nirajaghanuḥ struck

Then the mountain-like forms of Rakshasas attacked the Vanaras with heavy maces, darts, swords, and axes in frightening ways.
rākaṣasairavadhayamānānāṅvānarāṇāṅmahācamūḥ .

śaraṇayaṅśaraṇaṅyātārāmaṅdaśarathātamajama ।।6.94.17।।


rākaṣasaiḥ Rakshasas, vadhayamānānāma being struck, vānarāṇāma Vanaras, mahācamūḥ huge group, śaraṇayama refuge, daśarathātamajama Dasharatha's son, rāmama Rama, śaraṇama protection, yātā sought

The Vanaras being struck by Rakshasas sought the protection of Rama, the son of Dasharatha.
tatōrāmōmahātējādhanurādāyavīrayavāna .

paraviśayarākaṣasaṅsainayaṅśaravaraṣaṅvavaraṣa ha ।।6.94.18।।


tataḥ then, mahātējāḥ highly energetic, vīrayavāna valiant one, rāmaḥ Rama, dhanuḥ bow, ādāya taking up, rākaṣasama Rakshasas, sainayama army, paraviśayaentered, śaravaraṣama rain of arrows, vavaraṣa ha showered

Then, the highly energetic and valiant Rama, taking up the bow showered rain of arrows on Rakshasa army.
paraviṣaṭaṅtutadārāmaṅmēghāsasūrayamivāmabarē .

nāthijagamuramahāghōrāniradahanataṅśarāganinā ।।6.94.19।।


tadā then, paraviṣaṭama entered, śarāganinā like fire of arrows, niradahanatama consuming, rāmama Rama, mahāghōrāḥ most dreadful, amabarē sky, mēghāḥ clouds, sūrayamiva like sun, nādhijagamuḥnot approach

Then Rama entered the army with fire like arrows which were consuming the Rakshasas like the clouds in the sky which can't approach the scorching Sun.
kṛtānayēvasughōrāṇirāmēṇarajanīcarāḥ .

dadṛśusatē na vairāmaṅkaramāṇayasukarāṇitē ।।6.94.20।।


tē those, rajanīcarāḥ night rangers, raṇē in war, rāmēṇa by Rama, kṛtāni deeds, sughōrāṇi terrible, asukarāṇi difficult for others, rāmasaya Rama's, karamāṇayēva his action, dadṛśuḥ could not see

The night rangers were able to see Rama's terrible action which was difficult for others only after he had performed not otherwise (as they could not see his quick movement).
cālayanataṅmahāsainayaṅvidhamanataṅmahārathāna .

dadṛśusatē na vairāmaṅvātaṅvanagataṅyathā ।।6.94.21।।


tē those, mahāsainayama great army, cālayanatama moving, mahārathāna huge chariots, vidhamanatama breaking, rāmama Rama, vanagatama blowing in the forest, vātaṅyathā wind like, na dadṛśuḥ not see

They could not see Rama while he was moving and breaking huge chariots as one would not be able to see the trees in the forest when the wind blew fast.
chinanaṅbhinanaṅśarairadagadhaṅparabhananaṅśasatarapīḍitama .

balaṅrāmēṇadadṛśuranarāmaṅśīgharakāriṇama ।।6.94.22।।


rāmēṇa by Rama, śaraiḥ arrows, chinanama shattered, bhinanamainto pieces, śasatarapīḍitama tormented with darts, balama army, dadṛśuḥbeheld, śīgharakāriṇama one who is very fast in action, rāmama Rama, na not make out

They saw the army shattered, broken into pieces, tormented with darts by Rama but could not make out Rama who was very fast in action.
paraharanataṅśarīrēṣu na tēpaśayanatirāghavama .

inadariyārathēṣutiṣaṭhanataṅbhūtātamānamivaparajāḥ ।।6.94.23।।


śarīrēṣu in the body, paraharanatama hitting, rāghavama Raghava, tē they, inadariyārathēṣu experienced through sense objects, tiṣaṭhanatama enjoying, bhūtātamānama created beings, parajāḥiva like people, na paśayanati not able to perceive

Just as created beings experience their senses and do not perceive their soul, the army experienced the hitting of Raghava by their senses but were not able to perceive him who was hitting them.
ēṣahanatigajānīkamēṣahanatimahārathāna .

ēṣahanatiśaraisatīkaṣaṇaiḥpadātīsavājibhiḥsaha ।।6.94.24।।

ititērākaṣasāsasaravērāmasayasadṛśānaraṇē .

anayōnayaṅkupitājaghanusasādṛśayādarāghavasayatē ।।6.94.25।।


ēṣaḥ in that way, gajānīkama elephants, hanatikilling, ēṣaḥ in the same way, mahārathāna mighty chariot warriors, hanati destroying, ēṣaḥ so also, tīkaṣaṇaiḥ sharp, śaraiḥ arrows, vājibhiḥsaha including horses, padātīna foot soldiers, hanati killing, iti thus, saravē all, tērākaṣasāḥ those, raṇē in battle, rāmasaya Rama's, sadṛśāna staying there, kupitāḥangry, rāghavasaya Raghava's, sādṛśayāta resembled, anayōnayama one another, jaghanuḥattacked

'Rama is here killing elephants', 'Here is Rama destroying chariot warriors', 'Rama is killing horses, foot soldiers with sharp arrows', saying like that, the Rakshasas were striking one another in the battle. Being there where Rama was, they were mistaking one another for Rama there because of the so-called resemblance and attacking one another.
na tēdadṛśirērāmaṅdahanatamapivāhinīma .

mōhitāḥparamāsataraṇagānadharavēṇamahātamanā ।।6.94.26।।


mahātamanā great soul, gānadharavēṇamissile presided over by G and arvas, paramāsataraṇa supreme missile, mōhitaḥ confused, tē they, vāhinīma army, dahanatamapi burning, rāmama Rama, na dadṛśirē not able to see

The Rakshasas got confused by the supreme missile presided over by Gandharvas, released by Rama, which was burning their army, and were not able to see.
tēturāmasahasarāṇiraṇēpaśayanatirākaṣasāḥ .

punaḥpaśayanatikākutasathamēkamēvamahāhavē ।।6.94.27।।


raṇē in war, tērākaṣasāḥ those Rakshasas, rāmasahasarāṇi thousand Ramas, paśayanati saw, mahāhavē great battle, punaḥ again, ēkama one, kākutasathamēva kakuthsa alone, paśayanati could see

In the battle those Rakshasas could see a thousand Ramas at one place and again one Rama alone at another place
bharamanatīkāñacanīṅkōṭiṅkāramukasayamahātamanaḥ .

alātacakaraparatimāṅdadṛśusatē na rāghavama ।।6.94.28।।


tē they, mahātamanaḥ great soul, kāramukasaya bow's, bharamanatī confusion, kāñacanīma golden, alātacakaraparatimāma going round in circles, kōṭima burning firestick, dadṛśuḥ saw, rāghavama Raghava, na not

While Rama was going around in circles with his bow, the Rakshasas were confused, and saw the golden ends of the bow to be like a burning fire stick circling and could not see Rama.
śarīranābhisatatavāraciśaśarāraṅnēmikāramukama .

jayāghōṣatalaniraghōṣaṅtējōbudhadiguṇaparabhama ।।6.94.29।।

divayāsataraguṇaparayanataṅnighananataṅyudhirākaṣasāna .

dadṛśūrāmacakaraṅtatakālacakaramivaparajāḥ ।।6.94.30।।


parajāḥ people, śarīranābhiḥ body as centre of discuss, satatavāraciḥ strength as glow, śarārama arrows as spokes, nēmikāramukama bow for belly, jayāghōṣatalaniraghōṣama twangling of the bow string, tējōbudhadiguṇaparabhama virtues and effulgence as power of missiles, divayāsataraguṇaparayanatama power of mystic missiles, yudhi in war, rākaṣasāna Rakshasas, nighananatama killing, kālacakaramiva like the wheel of time spirit, rāmacakarama Rama's wheel, dadṛśuḥ seen

People saw Rama in the form of wheel exterminating the Rakshasas on the battlefield, which had the body of Sri Rama as its navel, his strength as its glow, the arrows as spokes, his bow as belly, the twangling of the bowstring as its sound, his virtues and effulgence as the power of his mystic missiles in war. Rama was seen as a wheel of time spirit by the people.
anīkaṅdaśasāhasaraṅrathānāṅvātaramahasāma .

aṣaṭādaśasahasarāṇikuñajarāṇāṅtarasavināma ।।6.94.31।।

caturadaśasahasarāṇisārōhāṇāṅ ca vājināma .

pūraṇēśatasahasarēdavērākaṣasānāṅpadātināma ।।6.94.32।।

divasasayāṣaṭabhāgēnaśarairaganiśikhōpamaiḥ .

hatātayānayēkēnarāmēṇarakaṣasāṅkāmarūpiṇāma ।।6.94.33।।


kāmarūpiṇāma capable of changing form at will, rakaṣasāma Rakshasas, vātaramahasāma of wind speed, rathānāma chariots, daśasāhasarama ten thousands, anīkama army, tarasavināma fleet-footed, kuñajarāṇāma elephants, aṣaṭādaśa eighteen, sahasarāṇi thousands, sārōhāṇāma with riders, vājināma horses, caturadaśaforty, sahasarāṇi thousands, padātināma foot soldiers, rākaṣasānāma Rakshasas, pūraṇē fully, davē two, śatasahasarē hundred thousands, ēkēnaalone, rāmēṇa by Rama, divasasaya in a day, aṣaṭabhāgēna eighth part, aganiśikhōpamaiḥ resembling tongues of fire, śaraiḥ arrows, hatāni were killed

In the eighth part of the day, in the battlefield, an army of Rakshasas who were capable of changing their forms at will, constituting a myriad of chariots with wind speed, eighteen thousand fleet-footed elephants, fourteen thousand horses with riders, two lakh Rakshasas fighting on foot exterminated by Rama single-handed with his arrows that resembled tongues of fire.
tēhatāśavāhatarathāśaśānatāvimathitadhavajāḥ .

abhipētuḥpurīṅlaṅakāṅhataśēṣāniśācarāḥ ।।6.94.34।।


hatāśavāḥ dead, hatarathāḥ chariots destroyed, śānatāḥappeased, vimathitadhavajāḥ staff of chariots broken, hataśēṣāḥ rest killed, tēniśācarāḥ those night rangers, laṅakāṅpurīma into Lanka, abhipētuḥ returned

Rakshasas dead, chariots destroyed, staff of chariots broken, remaining Rakshasas returned to Lanka.
hatairagajapadātayaśavaisatadababhūvaraṇājirama .

akarīḍabhūmiḥkarudadhasayarudarasayēvamahātamanaḥ ।।6.94.35।।


hataiḥ killed, gajapadātayaśavaiḥelephants, foot soldiers, horses tata there, raṇājirama the battlefield, karudadhasaya angry, mahātamanaḥ great, rudarasaya Rudra's, akarīḍabhūmiḥiva sports in field, babhūva seen

With the elephants, horses, and foot soldiers killed, the battlefield was like the ground where mighty Rudra sported in anger.
tatōdēvāsakasaganadharavāsasidadhāśacaparamaraṣayaḥ .

sādhusāvadhitirāmasayatatakaramasamapūjayana ।।6.94.36।।


tataḥ then, saganadharavāḥ the Gandharvas, dēvāḥ Devas, sidadhāśaca Siddhas, paramaraṣayaḥ very happy, rāmasaya Rama's, tata karama that action, sādhusādhuiti well done well done, samapūjayana offered prayers

Then, the Gandharvas, Devas, and Siddhas were very happy and praised Sri Rama saying, 'well done, well done' and offered prayers.
abaravīcachatadārāmaḥsugarīvaṅparatayananatarama .

vibhīṣaṇaṅ ca dharamātamāhanūmanataṅ ca vānarama ।।6.94.37।।

jāmabavanataṅhariśarēṣaṭhaṅmainadaṅdavividamēva ca .

ētadasatarabalaṅdivayaṅmamavātaṟayamabakasayavā ।।6.94.38।।


tadā then, dharamātamā righteous, rāmaḥ Rama, paratayananatarama nearby, sugarīvama Sugriva, vibhīṣaṇaṅ ca and Vibheeshana, vānarama vanaars, hanūmanataṅ ca and Hanuman, jāmabavanatama Jambavan, hariśarēṣaṭhama leaders of Vanaras, mainadhama Mainda, davividamēva ca Dwivida, abaravīcacha spoke, ētata this, divayama wonderful, asatarabalama power of arrows, mamavā mine or, taṟayamabakasayavā Lord siva

Then righteous Sri Rama said to nearby Sugriva, Vibheeshana, Hanuman, Jambavan and leaders of Vanaras like Mainda, Dwivida, that the power of these arrows are in him and Lord Siva only.
nihatayatāṅrākaṣasarājavāhinīṅrāmasatadāśakarasamōmahātamā .

asataraṣuśasataraṣujitakalamaśacasaṅsatūyatēdēvagaṇaiḥparahṛṣaṭaiḥ ।।6.94.39।।


śakarasamaḥ Indra, mahātamā great, asataraṣu weapons, śasataraṣu missiles, jitakalamaḥ ca not exhausted, rāmaḥ Sri Rama, tadā then, tāma them, rākaṣasarājavāhinīma Rakshasa king's army, nihataya having exterminated, parahṛṣaṭaiḥjubilant, dēvagaṇaiḥDevas, sanasatūyatē sages too

Sri Rama, a compeer of Indra having exterminated the Rakshasa king's army with weapons and missiles, the Devas and sages too were jubilant.
।। itayāraṣēvālamīkīyēśarīmadarāmāyaṇēādikāvayēyudadhakāṇaḍēcaturanavatitamasasaragaḥ ।।
This is the end of the ninety fourth sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
