On that very day that Dasaratha performed the ceremonies, Yudhajit, son of the lord of Kekaya and maternal uncle of Bharata, arrived in Mithila. Dasaratha duly honored him and the next day, the two of them, accompanied by the four princes, bejeweled and readied for the ceremonies went ahead preceded by Vasishta and the other holy sages and brahmins.Vasishta then told Janaka, "Dasaratha awaits you with his sons. One gives and the others receives, come, perform your dharma of giving away the brides", Janaka said that his daughters were ready too, "Radiant as the flaming fires they are at the marriage pavilion" he said.

Janaka invited Vasishta and all the other noble sages to conduct the wedding ceremonies. Vasishta and Visvamitra with Satananda in the forefront constructed a magnificent altar, festooned with flowers, ornamented with golden baubles and perfumed with sandal and incense.Into that altar entered Vasishta, to start the holy sacrificial fire.Janaka brought Sita before that fire and sat her, facing Rama, and told him, "This is Sita, my daughter who from now on will she be your partner and tread the path of dharma, along with you, Accept her!.May you be blessed with auspiciousness. Take Sita's hand in yours, she will be your faithful and dutiful wife, providing you company and restful shelter". So saying Janaka sanctified the union with water rendered holy by Mantras. Praised by the sages, and blessed by them, to the booming of the drums of heaven and to the rain of flowers from the sky, Sita came to be the consort of the great Ikshvaku, Rama!In this manner did the other three weddings of Lakshmana and Urmila, Bharata and Mandavi, and Satrughna and SrutaKirti also take place! The princes and their consorts circumambulated the two sages and their parents, and entered into holy matrimony. Apsaras danced, gandharvas sang and great joy prevailed amidst song, dance and drums.
