The comparison of the splendor of Lanka is made with that of Amaravati, the city of Indra, due to the brightness of the ornaments of demons and also due to the intensity of recitations (ghosa), according to Kataka.

Statement of Deity of Lanka 5.3.47-49

(rakshasam bhayamagatam) The purport of the deity’s statement to Hanuman is ‘your victory over me is a victory over the entire demon kingdom’. (vinasah samupagatah) ‘The ruin of Ravana has arrived (started)’ says the deity of Lanka.
The opinion of Tirtha is, ‘the story of Ravana has now to be construed from the time Ravana got the boon from Brahma up to the attack of Hanuman on Lanka (the deity of the city)’.
