Hanuman thought of looking at Sita secretly 5.2.37- 42
Why should Hanuman think of looking for Sita secretly? The reason is objects that are about to be accomplished should not deter the accomplishing messenger, as he had to act appropriately according to time and place. Therefore Hanuman thought of getting into action secretly during that time and place. Furthermore, there will be failure of his mission (if he did not do so) as the world would think that his master was a fool having a messenger of such kind (as I am).
(‘aviditam kincit na’), there is nothing that these demons do not know about us. Therefore I should remain in my natural monkey form’ thinks Hanuman.
‘madhyagatah candrah ’5.2.54-58
‘madhyagatah candrah’ means ‘if the Moon is in the middle of the sky at the time of dusk on the eighth day of the bright half of the month then she cannot be full moon. Or else if it is full-moon then she will not be in the middle of the sky.’ It was therefore the eleventh night of the bright half of the month and when the moon was in the sky (it is only allegorically referred to as full moon). Or it can be understood that the word ‘aneka sahasrarasmih’ as ‘whose rays were in thousands’.
It is because of this that when Hanuman was in the Asoka garden while the night was incomplete there is a description of lamps. It could be inferred that the Moon was already setting. By then it was ten months since Sita was abducted in the month of Phalguna. While it was the month of Margasirsa when Hanuman entered the Asoka garden it was cautioned by Sita saying that the tenth month was running and only two more months were left. Sita, in fact, was taken to Lanka on the day of her abduction lest Rama should attack Ravana.
