[Kabandha gives Rama the direction to Rishyamuka-- disappears, bidding farewell to Rama and Lakshmanadescription of nature at Pampa ]

निदर्शयित्वा रामाय सीतायाः प्रतिपादने।

वाक्यमन्वर्थमर्थज्ञः कबन्धः पुनरब्रवीत्।।3.73.1।।


अर्थज्ञः one who knows the meaning, कबन्धः Kabandha, सीतायाः Sita's, प्रतिपादने finding means to restore, (नि)दर्शयित्वा having shown, अन्वर्थम् meaningful, वाक्यम् words, पुनः again, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Having shown Rama the means to find Sita, Kabandha spoke again these significant words:
एष राम शिवः पन्था यत्रैते पुष्पिता द्रुमाः।

प्रतीचीं दिशमाश्रित्य प्रकाशन्ते मनोरमाः।।3.73.2।।

जम्बूप्रियालपनसप्लक्षन्यग्रोधतिन्धुकाः।

अश्वत्थाः कर्णिकाराश्च चूताश्चान्ये च पादापाः।।3.73.3।।

धन्वना नागवृक्षाश्च तिलका नक्तमालकाः।

नीलाशोकाः कदम्बाश्च करवीराश्च पुष्पिताः।।3.73.4।।

अग्निमुख्या अशोकाश्च सुरक्ताः पारिभद्रकाः।


राम Rama, यत्र whereever, प्रतीचीम् westward, दिशम् direction, अश्रित्य taking, मनोरमाः delightful, पुष्पिताः flowering, द्रुमाः trees, जम्बूप्रियालपनसप्लक्षन्यग्रोधतिन्दुकाः jambu trees , priyala trees, jackfruit trees, holy banyan trees and trees with red flowers, अश्वत्थाः holy fig trees, कर्णिकाराश्च karnikara trees, चूताश्च mango trees, अन्ये च and other, पादपाः trees,
धन्वनाः dryland trees, नागवृक्षाश्च different kinds of thorny trees, तिलकाः tilaka trees, नक्तमालकाः trees that bloom at night, नीलाशोकाः ashoka trees of blue flowers, कदम्बाश्च पुष्पिताः kadamba trees in bloom, करवीराश्च karavira, अग्निमुख्याः agnimukhya, अशोकाश्च ashoka, सुरक्ताः red trees, पारिभद्रकाः paribhadrakas, प्रकाशन्ते are shining, एषः that is, शिवः auspicious, पन्थाः route.

O Rama the delightful path going westward is auspicious for you. It is shining with trees in bloom. There are jambu (rose apple) trees, priyala trees, jackfruit trees, banyan trees, plaksha trees (a tree from which milky latex oozes out), tinduka trees, holy fig trees, karnikaras (of red and white flowers), mango trees and other trees like dryland, thorny trees, tilaka trees, trees that bloom at night, agnimukhya and asoka trees of blue flowers, kadamba trees, karavira trees, red ashoka trees, and paribhadraka trees.
तानारुह्याथवा भूमौ पातयित्वा च तान्बलात्।।3.73.5।।

फलान्यमृतकल्पानि भक्षयन्तौ गमिष्यथः।


तान् those trees, आरुह्य climbing, अथवा or else, बलात् with your strength, तान् them, पातयित्वा pulling them down, अमृत कल्पानि nectarlike, फलानि fruits, भक्षयन्तौ while eating, गमिष्यथः go ahead.

Climbing those trees or else pulling them down with your strength, both of you eat the nectarlike sweet fruits and proceed ahead.
तदतिक्रम्य काकुत्स्थ वनं पुष्पितपादपम्।।3.73.6।।

नन्दनप्रतिमं चान्यत्कुरवो ह्युत्तरा इव।


काकुत्स्थ Kakustha, पुष्पितपादपम् trees with flowers in bloom, तत् that, वनम् forest, अतिक्रम्य after crossing, नन्दनप्रतिमम् resembling Nandana gardens, उत्तराः कुरवः इव like the north Kuru state, अन्यत् another pleasuregarden.

O scion of the Kakutstha race proceeding further you will find another forest of the North Kuru state with trees in bloom resembling the pleasuregardens of Nandana.
सर्वकालफला यत्र पादपास्तु मधुस्रवाः।।3.73.7।।

सर्वे च ऋतवस्तत्र वने चैत्ररथे यथा।


यत्र there, सर्वकालफलाः fruits of all seasons, पादपाः trees, मधुस्रवाः drip honey, तत्र वने in that garden, सर्वे all, ऋतवः seasons, चैत्ररथे यथा like the Chaitraratha.

The trees in that garden with fruits of all seasons drip honey. Like the Chaitraratha garden (of Kubera), it bears fruits of all seasons.
फलभारानतास्तत्र महाविटपधारिणः।।3.73.8।।

शोभन्ते सर्वतस्तत्र मेघपर्वतसन्निभाः।


तत्र there, फलभारानताः borne down by the weight of fruits, मेघपर्वतसन्निभाः like mountains and clouds, महाविटपधारिणः trees with huge branches, शोभन्ते look delightful.

The trees with huge branches bent down with fruits look like mountains or clouds.
तानारुह्याथवा भूमौ पातयित्वा यथासुखम्।।3.73.9।।

फलान्यमृतकल्पानि लक्ष्मणस्ते प्रदास्यति।


लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, तान् those, आरुह्य climbing, अथवा or else, यथासुखम् as you like, पातयित्वा pull down, अमृतकल्पानि nectarlike, फलानि fruits, ते to you, प्रदास्यति he can give you.

Lakshmana will get you the nectarlike fruits either by climbing the trees or by pulling them down.
चङ्क्रमन्तौ वरान्देशान्शैलाच्छैलं वनाद्वनम्।।3.73.10।।

ततः पुष्करिणीं वीरौ पम्पां नाम गमिष्यथः।


वीरौ two brave men, वरान् great, देशान् places, शैलात् from one hill, शैलम् to another hill,
वनात् from one forest, वनम् to another, चङ्क्रमन्तौ while going, ततः then, पम्पां नाम named Pampa, पुष्करिणीम् tank, गमिष्यथः you will both reach.

O brave men, pass from hill to hill, forest to forest in great countries until you reach a lake named Pampa.
अशर्करामविभ्रंशां समतीर्थामशैवलाम्।।3.73.11।।

राम सञ्जातवालूकां कमलोत्पलशालिनीम्।


राम Rama, अशर्कराम् without stones or pebbles, अविभ्रंशाम् or slipping, समतीर्थाम् level slopes, अशैवलाम् without moss, सञ्जातवालूकाम् smooth beds of sand on the banks, कमलोत्पलशालिनीम् full of lotuses lilies.

The slopes of Pampa are without stones or pebbles, O Rama They are not slippery slopes. They are without moss. The water is neither deep nor shallow. It has smooth beds of sand on the banks and it is full of lotuses and lilies.
तत्र हंसाः प्लवाः क्रौञ्चाः कुरराश्चैव राघव।।3.73.12।।

वल्गुस्वना विकूजन्ति पम्पासलिलगोचराः।


राघव O son of the Raghus, तत्र there, पम्पासलिलगोचराः moving in the waters of Pampa, हंसाः swans, प्लवाः ducks, क्रौञ्चाः Krauncha birds, कुरराश्चैव and curlews, वल्गुस्वनाः cackling, विकूजन्ति cooing.

Moving in the waters of Pampa you will see swans, ducks, krauncha birds and curlews cackling and cooing, O Son of the Raghus.
नोद्विजन्ते नरान्दृष्ट्वा वधस्याकोविदाश्शुभाः।।3.73.13।।

घृतपिण्डोपमान् स्थूलांस्तान्द्विजान्भक्षयिष्यथः।


वधस्य to be killed, अकोविदाः not knowing, शुभाः auspicious, नरान् human beings, दृष्ट्वा after seeing, नोद्विजन्ते do not get scared, घृतपिण्डोपमान् like balls of ghee, स्थूलान् fat, तान्
them, द्विजान् killing, भक्षयिष्यथः can eat.

Not knowing that they may be killed, the innocent creatures will not be scared of human beings. Both of you can kill and eat the fat birds comparable to balls of ghee.
रोहितान्वक्रतुण्डांश्च नडमीनांश्च राघव।।3.73.14।।

पम्पायामिषुभिर्मत्स्यांस्तत्र राम वरान्हतान्।

निस्त्वक्पक्षानयस्तप्तानकृशानेककण्टकान्।।3.73.15।।

तव भक्त्या समायुक्तो लक्ष्मणस्सम्प्रदास्यति।


राघव scion of the Raghu dynasty, राम Rama, तत्र there, पम्पायाम् in Pampa, इषुभिः charging with arrows, हतान् killed, वरान् choicest, निस्त्वक्पक्षान् without scales and fins, अयस्तप्तान् baked on skewers made of iron, अकृशानेककण्टकान् fat ones with a single bone, मत्स्यान् fish, रोहितान् rohita fish, वक्रतुण्डांश्च crookedmouth fish, नडमीनांश्च huge fish, लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, भक्त्या with devotion, समायुक्तः is endowed, तव you, सम्प्रदास्यति will be able to give.

O Rama, scion of the Raghu dynasty there at Pampa, by shooting an arrow at the choicest fishes with a single bone, prawns and big fishes, crookedfaced fishes, fishes without scales and fins, baked on iron skewers and cooked will be offered to you by faithful Lakshmana.
भृशते खादतो मत्स्यान्पम्पायाः पुष्पसञ्चये।।3.73.16।।

पद्मगन्धि शिवं वारि सुखशीतमनामयम्।

उद्धृत्य सतताक्लिष्टं रौप्यस्फाटिकसन्निभम्।।3.73.17।।

असौ पुष्करपर्णेन लक्ष्मणः पाययिष्यति।


भृशम् very delightedly, मत्स्यान् fish, खादतः while eating, ते to you, पुष्पसञ्चये in a place full of flowers, पद्मगन्धि scent of lotuses, शिवम् beneficent, सुखशीतम् cool, अनामयम् healthy, सतताक्लिष्टम् always clear, रौप्यस्फाटिकसन्निभम् resembling silver and crystal, वारि water, असौ
लक्ष्मणः this Lakshmana, पुष्करपर्णेन in lotus leaf, पाययिष्यति will offer you.

While you delightedly eat the fishes, Lakshmana will fetch you water in a lotus leaf from the Pampa to drink. The waters of Pampa full of lotuses carry their scent, It is enjoyable, cool, healthy and clear, resembling silver and crystal.
स्थूलान्गिरिगुहाशय्यान्वराहान्वनचारिणः।।3.73.18।।

अपां लोभादुपावृत्तान्वृषभानिव नर्दतः।

रूपावनितांश्च पम्पायांद्रक्ष्यसि त्वं नरोत्तम।।3.73.19।।


नरोत्तम O best of men, स्थूलान् huge, गिरिगुहाशय्यान् resting in the mountain caves, वनचारिणः forestrangers, अपाम् of waters, लोभात् desire , उपावृत्तान् approaching, वृषभानिव like bulls, नर्दतः roaring, रूपावनितान् delightful appearance, वराहान् boars, पम्पायाम् at Pampa, त्वम् you, द्रक्ष्यसि you will see.

O best of men you will see huge boars of delightful appearance that roar like bulls resting in mountain caves, roaming in the forest and coming to Pampa for its water.
सायाह्ने विचरन्राम विटपीन्माल्यधारिणः।

शीतोदकं च पम्पाया दृष्ट्वा शोकं विहास्यसि।।3.73.20।।


राम Rama, सायाह्ने in the evening, विचरन् while strolling, माल्यधारिणः laden with blossoms, विटपीन् trees, पम्पायाः at Pampa, शीतोदकं च cool waters also, दृष्ट्वा seeing, शोकम् grief, विहास्यसि you will shake off.

When you stroll in the evening, you will see the trees laden with blossoms and lake Pampa full of cool water. You will forget your grief.
सुमनोभिश्चितांस्तत्र तिलकान्नक्तमालकान्।

उत्पलानि च फुल्लानि पङ्कजानि च राघव।।3.73.21।।


राघव Son of the Raghus, तत्र there, सुमनोभिः with flowers, चितान् full of, तिलकान् tilaka trees, नक्तमालकान् night jasmine, फुल्लानि blossoming, उत्पलानि च water lilies, पङ्कजानि च otuses.

O son of the Raghus there you will see tilaka trees, night jasmines full of flowers. You will also see blossoming water lilies and lotuses in Pampa.
न तानि कश्चिन्माल्यानि तत्रारोपयिता नरः।

न च वै म्लानतां यान्ति न च शीर्यन्ति राघव।।3.73.22।।


राघव Rama, तत्र there, तानि माल्यानि those garlands, आरोपयिता wearing, नरः man, कश्चित् any one, न not, म्लानताम् whithering, न यान्ति not become, न च शीर्यन्ति they do not wilt,

There is no one to wear those flowers. Those garlands do not wilt or wither O Rama
मतङ्गशिष्यास्तत्राऽसन्नृषयस्सुसमाहिताः।

तेषां भाराभितप्तानां वन्यमाहरतां गुरोः।।3.73.23।।

ये प्रपेतुर्महीं तूर्णं शरीरात्स्वेदबिन्दवः।

तानि जातानि माल्यानि मुनीनां तपसा तदा।।3.73.24।।

स्वेदबिन्दुसमुत्थानि न विनश्यन्ति राघव।


तत्र there, सुसमाहिताः in a calm state, मतङ्गशिष्याः seer Matanga's disciples, ऋषयः seers, आसन् they were, गुरोः of the preceptor, वन्यम् forest products, आहरताम् fetched, भाराभितप्तानाम् tired under the burden, तेषाम् from their, शरीरात् from the body, ये those, स्वेदबिन्दवः drops of sweat, तूर्णम् readily, महीम् on the earth, (प्र)पेतुः had fallen, तानि those, तदा then, मुनीनाम् of the sages, तपसा with penance, माल्यानि flowers, जातानि grown, राघव Rama, स्वेदबिन्दुसमुत्थानि sprung from the drops of sweat, न विनश्यन्ति not perish.

While drops of sweat from the bodies of sage Matanga's disciples fell on earth under the heavy load of forest products they carried for their preceptor, they remained in a calm state. Those drops of sweat turned into flowers and those flowers do not wither
due to the power of penance of the sages.
तेषां गतानामद्यापि दृश्यते परिचारिणी।।3.73.25।।

श्रमणी शबरी नाम काकुत्स्थ चिरजीविनी।


काकुत्थ्स Kakutstha, तेषाम् for them, गतानाम् who had gone, परिचारिणी their attendant, चिरजीविनी living for long years, शबरीनाम named Sabari, श्रमणी ascetic, अद्यापि even now, दृश्यते is seen.

O Kakutstha even now their attendant, named Sabari, an old ascetic is there even though they have left long ago.
त्वां तु धर्मे स्थिता नित्यं सर्वभूतनमस्कृतम्।।3.73.26।।

दृष्ट्वा देवोपमं राम स्वर्गलोकं गमिष्यति।


राम Rama, नित्यम् always, धर्मे in rigteous ways, स्थिता remaining, सर्वभूतनमस्कृतम् revered by all beings, देवोपमम् godlike, त्वाम् you, दृष्ट्वा seeing, स्वर्गलोकम् heaven, गमिष्यति will go.

O Rama, she is established in righteousness, and you are godlike, and revered by all beings. When she sees you, she will attain heaven.
ततस्तद्राम पम्पायास्तीरमासाद्य पश्चिमम्।।3.73.27।।

आश्रमस्थानमतुलं गुह्यं काकुत्स्थ पश्यसि।


काकुत्स्थ Kakutstha, राम Rama, ततः thereafter, पम्पायाः Pampa's, तत् that, पश्चिमं तीरम् western bank, आसाद्य reaching, अतुलम् incomparable, गुह्यम् concealed, आश्रमस्थानम् site of hermitage, पश्यसि you will see.

O Rama of the Kakutstha family, you will see on reaching the western bank of Pampa an incomparable site of hermitage concealed in a remote place.
न तत्राक्रमितुं नागाश्शक्नुवन्ति तमाश्रमम्।।3.73.28।।

विविधास्तत्र वै नागा वने तस्मिंश्च पर्वते।

ऋषेस्तत्र मतङ्गस्य विधानात्तच्च काननम्।।3.73.29।।


तत्र There, नागा: elephants, तम् that, आश्रमम् hermitage, आक्रमितुम् to attack, न शक्नुवन्ति not able, तस्मिन् in that, पर्वते in the mountain, वने forest, विविधाः many, नागाः elephants, तत् that, काननम् the forest, तस्य his, मतङ्गस्य ऋषेः seer Matanga's, विधानात् due to his command.

The elephants of the forest and on the mountains do not attack the hermitage forbidden by sage Matanga.
तस्मिन्नन्दनसङ्काशे देवारण्योपमे वने।

नानाविहगसङ्कीर्णे रंस्यसे राम निर्वृतः।।3.73.30।।


राम Rama, नन्दनसङ्काशे like Nandana gardens, देवारण्योपमे comparable to the garden of the gods, नानाविहगसङ्कीर्णे full of several kinds of birds, तस्मिन् वने in that forest, निवृतः giving up your grief, रंस्यसे you will enjoy.

O Rama, you will enjoy your stay in that forest which is like Nandana garden, the garden of the gods, full of various birds.
ऋष्यमूकश्च पम्पायाः पुरस्तात्पुष्पितद्रुमः।

सुदुःखारोहणो नाम शिशुनागाभिरक्षितः।।3.73.31।।

उदारो ब्रह्मणा चैव पूर्वकाले विनिर्मितः।


पम्पायाः Pampa's, पुरस्तात् before, पुष्पितद्रुमः trees with flowers in bloom, सुदुःखारोहणः quite difficult to climb, शिशुनागाभिरक्षितः protected by young elephants, उदारः exalted, ब्रह्मणा by Brahma, ऋष्यमूकश्च Rishyamuka, पूर्वकाले in the past, विनिर्मितः is created.

Mount Rishyamuka situated on the bank of Pampa has trees filled with blossoms. It
is difficult to climb and is protected by young elephants.This lofty mountain was created by Brahma in olden days.
शयानः पुरुषो राम तस्य शैलस्य मूर्धनि।।3.73.32।।

यत्स्वप्ने लभते वित्तं तत्प्रबुद्धोऽधिगच्छति।


राम Rama, तस्य of that, शैलस्य mountain's, मूर्धनि on top, शयानः while sleeping there, पुरुषः any man, स्वप्ने in a dream, यत् whatever, वित्तम् wealth, लभते obtains, तत् that, प्रबुद्धः on waking up, अधिगच्छति will get.

Whatever wealth one dreams of in sleep on top of that mountain he will get on waking up, O Rama
नत्वेनं विषमाचार पापकर्माऽधिरोहति।।3.73.33।।

यस्तु तं विषमाचारः पापकर्माऽधिरोहति।

तत्रैव प्रहऱन्त्येनं सुप्तमादाय राक्षसाः।।3.73.34।।


विषमाचारः a place of uneven terrain for movement, पापकर्मा sinner, एवम् so also, न अधिरोहति cannot ascend, विषमाचारः evil doer, पापकर्मा sinner, यः whoever, तम् him, अधिरोहति ascends, सुप्तम् when asleep, तम् him, आदाय taking, राक्षसाः demons, तत्रैव there itself, प्रहरन्ति strike at him.

If an evildoer or a sinner ascends the (Rishyamuka) mountain, he, in his sleep, will be thrown down with asleep by the demons from there itself. A sinner does not climb this mountain of uneven terrain.
तत्रापि शिशुनागानामाक्रन्धश्श्रूयते महान्।

क्रीडतां राम पम्पायां मतङ्गारण्यवासिनाम्।।3.73.35।।


राम Rama, तत्रापि there also, पम्पायाम् at Pampa, क्रीडताम् sporting, मतङ्गारण्यवासिनाम् for those inhabiting sage Matanga's forest, शिशुनागानाम् for baby elphants, महान् great,
आक्रन्द: roaring sound, श्रूयते will be heard.

O Rama, the trumpeting of the young playful elephants inhabiting sage Matanga's forest can be heard at Pampa.
सिक्ता रुधिरधाराभिस्संहृत्य परमद्विपाः।

प्रचरन्ति पृथक्कीर्णा मेघवर्णास्तरस्विनः।।3.73.36।।


मेघवर्णाः like dark rainclouds, तरस्विनः swift, परमद्विपाः great elephants, संहृत्य drawn together, रुधिरधाराभिः streams of ichor(red in colour) flowing from their body, सिक्ताः are drenched, पृथक् separated, कीर्णाः scattered, प्रचरन्ति they wander.

The great, nimble elphants, dark like clouds, drenched with the flow of ichor come together and then separate and scatter.
ते तत्र पीत्वा पानीयं विमलं शीतमव्ययम्।

निर्वृतास्संविगाहन्ते वनानि वनगोचराः।।3.73.37।।


वनगोचराः wandering in the forest, ते they, विमलम् pure, शीतम् cool, अव्ययम् plenty, पानीयम् water, पीत्वा drinking, निर्वृताः contented, वनानि in the forest, (सं)विगाहन्ते plunge into.

The wandering elephants of the forest drink plentiful water, pure and cool, from Pampa and contented, plunge into the forest.
ऋक्षांश्च द्वीपिनश्चैव नीलकोमलकप्रभान्।

रुरूनपेतापजयान् दृष्ट्वा शोकं जयिष्यसि।।3.73.38।।


ऋक्षांश्च bears and, द्वीपिनश्चैव tigers, नीलकोमलकप्रभान् shining like sapphire, अपेतापजयान् that which have not met with defeat, रुरून् antelopes,दृष्ट्वा on seeing, शोकम् grief, जयिष्यसि will get over.

When you see, shining like sapphires, the bears, tigers, antelopes who know no
defeat, you will get over your grief.
राम तस्य तु शैलस्य महती शोभते गुहा।

शिलापिधाना काकुत्स्थ दुःखं चास्याः प्रवेशनम्।।3.73.39।।


काकुत्स्थ राम Rama of the Kakutstha family, तस्य शैलस्य of that mountain, शिलापिधाना covered with a slab, महती huge, गुहा cave, शोभते looks beautiful, अस्याः that cave's, प्रवेशनम् entry, दुःखम् difficult.

O son of the Kakutstha family, there is a beautiful cave in that mountain covered with a slab of stone. It is difficult to enter.
तस्या गुहायाः प्राग्द्वारे महान्शीतोदको ह्रदः।

फलमूलान्वितो रम्यो नानामृगसमावृतः।।3.73.40।।


तस्याः of that, गुहायाः cave's, प्राग्द्वारे at the eastern entrance, शीतोदकः one with cool water, फलमूलान्वीतः filled with fruits and roots, रम्यः delightful, नानामृगसमावृतः surrounded by different kinds of animals, महान् great, ह्रदः lake.

At the eastern entrance of the cave there is a cool watertank. On its bank teeming with various animals are delightful fruits and roots.
तस्यां वसति सुग्रीवश्चतुर्भिस्सह वानरैः।

कदाचिच्छिखरे तस्य पर्वतस्यावतिष्ठते।।3.73.41।।


सुग्रीवः Sugriva, चतुर्भिः with four, वानरैः सह along with monkeys, तस्याम् in that cave, वसति dwells, कदाचित् at times, तस्य पर्वतस्य the mountain's, शिखरे top, अवतिष्ठते stays.

Sugriva dwells in that cave with four other monkeys. At times he sits on the top of the mountain.
कबन्धस्त्वनुशास्यैवं तावुभौ रामलक्ष्मणौ।

स्रग्वी भास्करवर्णाभः खे व्यरोचत वीर्यवान्।।3.73.42।।


वीर्यवान् courageous, स्रग्वी wearing a flower garland, कबन्धस्तु Kabandha, तौ both, रामलक्ष्मणौ Rama and Lakshmana, उभौ both, एवम् in that way, अनुशास्य telling them, खे भास्करवर्णाभः like the colour of the Sun, व्यरोचत shone brightly.

Having instructed both Rama and Lakshmana, courageous Kabandha, wearing a flowergarland, shone brightly like the Sun in the sky.
तं तु खस्थं महाभागं कबन्धं रामलक्ष्मणौ।

प्रस्थितौ त्वं व्रजस्वेति वाक्यमूचतुरन्तिके।।3.73.43।।


प्रस्थितौ both set forth, तौ रामलक्ष्मणौ both Rama and Lakshmana, अन्तिके gone near, खस्थम् he who stood in the sky, महाभागम् glorious, तं कबन्धम् that Kabandha, त्वम् you, व्रजस्व can go, इति thus, वाक्यम् words said, ऊचतुः both spoke.

Both Rama and Lakshmana, ready to depart, went near the glorious Kabandha waiting in the sky and said, You may go now.
गम्यतां कार्यसिद्ध्यर्थमिति तावब्रवीत्स च।

सुप्रीतौ तावनुज्ञाप्य कबन्धः प्रस्थितस्तदा।।3.73.44।।


तदा then, प्रस्थितः set to go, सः कबन्धश्च that Kabandha, सुप्रीतौ both of them very pleased, तौ both, अनुज्ञाप्य took leave, कार्यसिद्ध्यर्थम् to accomplish the task, गम्यताम् you may depart, तौ both, अब्रवीत् said.

Then Kabandha said to the brothers satisfied, You may go now to accomplish your task. Then he took leave.
स तत्कबन्धः प्रतिपद्य रूपं वृतश्श्रिया भास्करतुल्यदेहः।

निदर्शयन्राममवेक्ष्य खस्थः सख्यं कुरुष्वेति तदाभ्युवाच।।3.73.45।।


सः कबन्धः that Kabandha, तत् then, रूपम् his true form, प्रतिपद्य after attaining, श्रिया with radiance, वृतः surrounded, भास्करतुल्य देहः his body shining like the Sun, खस्थः from the sky, रामम् Rama, अवेक्ष्य seeing, निदर्शयन् while showing at, सख्यम् friendship, कुरुष्व make, इति this, तदा then, उवाच said.

Kabandha assumed his true form, his body shining like the radiance of the Sun. He stood in the sky showing his form and looking at Rama, said, Make friendship with Sugriva.
इत्यार्ष श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये अरण्यकाण्डे त्रिसप्ततितमस्सर्गः।।
Thus ends the seventythird sarga of Aranyakanda of the holy Ramayana the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
