[Sita pleads with Rama and Lakshmana to get the deer-- Lakshmana says it is the magic of Maricha-- Rama asks Lakshmana to take care of Sita and proceeds to catch the deer.]

sā taṅ samprēkṣya suśrōṇī kusumānyapacinvatī.

hēmarājatavarṇābhyāṅ pārśvābhyāmupaśōbhitam৷৷3.43.1৷৷

prahṛṣṭā cānavadyāṅgī mṛṣṭahāṭakavarṇinī.

bhartāramapi cakranda lakṣmaṇaṅ cāpi sāyudham৷৷3.43.2৷৷


suśrōṇī with fine hips, anavadyāṅgī a lady of flawless beautiful limbs, mṛṣṭahāṭakavarṇinī of pure golden complexion, kusumāni flowers, apacinvatī while picking, sā she, hēmarājatavarṇābhyām with gold and silver colour, pārśvābhyām on both sides of the body, upaśōbhitam looking beautiful, tam that animal, samprēkṣya after seeing, prahṛṣṭā delighted, bhartāramapi husband and, sāyudham with arms, lakṣmaṇaṅ cāpi Lakshmana too, cakranda cried out.

Sita while plucking flowers Sita who had fine hips, flawless beautiful limbs and pure golden complexion felt delighted to see the deer with gold and silver colours on both sides of his body. She called out to Rama and Lakshmana who were equipped with arms.
tayā৷৷hūtau naravyāghrau vaidēhyā rāmalakṣmaṇau.

vīkṣamāṇau tu tau dēśaṅ tadā dadṛśaturmṛgam৷৷3.43.3৷৷


tayā by her, vaidēhyā by Vaidehi, āhūtau called, naravyāghrau tigers among men, tau both, rāmalakṣmaṇau Rama and Lakshmana, (taṅ) dēśam that place, vīkṣamāṇau while glancing, tadā then, mṛgam deer, dadṛśatuḥ saw.

When Sita called Rama and Lakshmana, the two tigers among men, they looked around and saw the deer.
śaṅkamānastu taṅ dṛṣṭvā lakṣmaṇō rāmamabravīt.

tamēvainamahaṅ manyē mārīcaṅ rākṣasaṅ mṛgam৷৷3.43.4৷৷


tam him, dṛṣṭvā after seeing, śaṅkamānaḥ suspected, lakṣmaṇaḥ Lakshmana, rāmam to Rama, abravīt said, aham I, ēnam him, mṛgam deer, tam him, mārīcamēva Maricha only, manyē I think.

Seeing the deer, Lakshmana suspected him to be Maricha and said this to Rama.
carantōmṛgayāṅ hṛṣṭāḥ pāpēnōpādhinā vanē.

anēna nihatā rājan rājānaḥ kāmarūpiṇā৷৷3.43.5৷৷


rājan O king, hṛṣṭāḥ happy, mṛgayāṅ carantaḥ while on hunting expedition, rājānaḥ kings, kāmarūpiṇā assuming any form at his free will, anēna by him, pāpēna malicious, vanē in the forest, upādhinā deceitfully, nihatāḥ killed.

Many kings, while on hunting expedition in the forest, have been deceitfully killed by malicious Maricha, who could assume any form at his free will.
asya māyāvidō māyāmṛgarūpamidaṅ kṛtam.

bhānumatpuruṣavyāghra gandharvapurasannibham৷৷3.43.6৷৷


puruṣavyāghra O tiger among men, māyāvidaḥ deceitful one, asya his, bhānumat radiant, gandharvapurasannibham like the city of the gandharvas (which does not exist), idam this kind, māyāmṛgarūpam form of an illusory deer, kṛtam has assumed

O tiger among men, this deceitful demon (Maricha) has been transformed into the illusory form of a radiant deer which does not exist.
mṛgō hyēvaṅvidhō ratnavicitrō nāsti rāghava.

jagatyāṅ jagatīnātha māyaiṣā hi na saṅśayaḥ৷৷3.43.7৷৷


jagatīnātha O lord of the world, rāghava Rama, jagatyām in the world, ratnavicitraḥ one with wonderful and sparkling gems, ēvaṅvidhaḥ this kind of, mṛgaḥ deer, nāsti hi does not exist, ēṣā this is, māyā trick, saṅśayaḥ doubt, na not,

O Rama, lord of the world! nowhere on earth does exist this kind of wonderful deer sparkling with gems. That it is a mere trick, an illusion there is no doubt.
ēvaṅ bruvāṇaṅ kākutsthaṅ prativārya śucismitā.

uvāca sītā saṅhṛṣṭā carmaṇā hṛtacētanā৷৷3.43.8৷৷


śucismitā a lady with a pure smile, carmaṇā by the beauty of the skin, hṛtacētanā who lost her sense of descrimination, hṛṣṭā a joyful, sītā Sita, ēvam in that way, bruvāṇam saying, kākutstham Rama, prativārya intervened, uvāca said.

Sita was too enchanted by the skin of the deer to retain her sense of discrimination. Intervening, she said to Rama joyfully with a pure smile on her face:
āryaputrābhirāmō.sau mṛgō harati mē manaḥ.

ānayainaṅ mahābāhō krīḍārthaṅ nō bhaviṣyati৷৷3.43.9৷৷


āryaputra O prince, abhirāmaḥ attractive, asau this, mṛgaḥ deer, mē to me, manaḥ mind, harati captivating, mahābāhō O long-armed Rama, ēnam this animal, ānaya bring, naḥ our, krīḍārtham playmate, bhaviṣyati will be.

O prince! O long-armed one, this deer has captivated my mind. Fetch him for me.This will be our playmate.
ihāśramapadē.smākaṅ bahavaḥ puṇyadarśanāḥ.

mṛgāścaranti sahitāścamarāssṛmarāstathā৷৷3.43.10৷৷


asmākam for us, iha here, āśramapadē at the hermitage, puṇyadarśanāḥ pious-looking, bahavaḥ many, mṛgāḥ deer, sṛmarāḥ antelopes, tathā similarly, camarāḥ yaks, sahitāḥ in herds, caranti wandering.

Here at the hermitage there are many lovely deer, yaks and antelopes wandering in herds.
ṛkṣāḥ pṛṣatasaṅghāśca vānarāḥ kinnarāstathā.

vicaranti mahābāhō rupaśrēṣṭhā manōharāḥ৷৷3.43.11৷৷


mahābāhō O long-armed one, rūpaśrēṣṭhāḥ best of forms, manōharāḥ enchanting, ṛkṣāḥ bear, pṛṣatasaṅghāśca herds of spotted antelopes, vānarāḥ monkeys, tathā similarly, kinnarāḥ kinneras, vicaranti wander about.

O long-armed one, most beautiful animals like bears, antelopes and groups of monkeys and kinneras are wandering here.
na cāsya sadṛśō rājandṛṣṭapūrvō mṛgō mayā.

tējasā kṣamayā dīptyā yathā.yaṅ mṛgasattamaḥ৷৷3.43.12৷৷


rājan O Prince, ayam this, mṛgasattamaḥ great deer, yathā as, tējasā by lustre, kṣamayā by forbearance, dīptyā by glitter, asya his, sadṛśaḥ equal, mṛgaḥ animal, mayā by me, na dṛṣṭapūrvaḥ never seen before.

O prince ! this kind of beautiful, tame and glittering deer I have never seen before.
nānāvarṇavicitrāṅgō ratnabindusamācitaḥ.

dyōtayanvanamavyagraṅ śōbhatē śaśisannibhaḥ৷৷3.43.13৷৷


nānāvarṇavicitrāṅgaḥ one whose body is glittering with different colours, ratnabindusamācitaḥ speckled with gems of different kinds, śaśisannibhaḥ like the Moon, avyagram cool, vanam forest, dyōtayan while illuminating, śōbhatē shining.

Its body glittering with different colours, speckled with gems of different kinds, is like the Moon shining and illuminating the forest.
ahō rūpamahō lakṣmīssvarasampacca śōbhanā.

mṛgō.dbhutō vicitrāṅgō hṛdayaṅ haratīva mē৷৷3.43.14৷৷


rūpam form, ahō Oh, lakṣmīḥ beauty, ahō Oh, svarasampacca rich call, śōbhanā is delightful, adbhutaḥ wonderful, vicitrāṅgaḥ graceful limbs, mṛgaḥ deer, mē to me, hṛdayam heart, haratīva as if captivating.

Oh what a beauty, Oh what rich call ! what delightful, wonderful, graceful limbs ! This deer captivates my heart.
yadi grahaṇamabhyēti jīvannēva mṛgastava.

āścaryabhūtaṅ bhavati vismayaṅ janayiṣyati৷৷3.43.15৷৷


mṛgaḥ deer, jīvannēva alive, tava your, grahaṇam caught, abhyēti yadi if it can be obtained, āścaryabhūtam thrilling, bhavati will be, vismayam wonder, janayiṣyati will create.

If this deer can be caught alive, it will be thrilling, it will work wonders.
samāptavanavāsānāṅ rājyasthānāṅ ca naḥ punaḥ.

antaḥpuravibhūṣārthō mṛga ēṣa bhaviṣyati৷৷3.43.16৷৷


ēṣaḥ this, mṛgaḥ deer, samāptavanavāsānām after the completion of exile in the forest, punaḥ again, rājyasthānām and established in the kingdom, naḥ for us, antaḥpuravibhūṣārthaḥ add beauty to the harem, bhaviṣyati will be.

After the completion of exile in the forest, when we are back in the kingdom, this deer will add beauty to the harem.
bharatasyāryaputrasya śvaśrūṇāṅ mama ca prabhō.

mṛgarūpamidaṅ vyaktaṅ vismayaṅ janayiṣyati৷৷3.43.17৷৷


prabhō O king!, idam this, mṛgarūpam this form of a deer, bharatasya to Bharata, āryaputrasya for you, śvaśrūṇām for mothers-in-law, mama ca to me, vyaktam certainly, vismayam wonder, janayiṣyati will generate.

O king! this deer will create amazement in Bharata, in mothers-in-law, in you and in me as well.
jīvanna yadi tē.bhyēti grahaṇaṅ mṛgasattamaḥ.

ajinaṅ naraśārdūla ruciraṅ mē bhaviṣyati৷৷3.43.18৷৷


naraśārdūla O tiger among men, mṛgasattamaḥ great deer, jīvan with life, tē to you, grahaṇam catch, na not, abhyēti yadi can be caught, mē for me, ruciram this beautiful, ajinam skin, bhaviṣyati will be.

O best among men, if this great deer cannot be captured alive, I will wear its beautiful skin.
nihatasyāsya sattvasya jāmbūnadamayatvaci.

śaṣpabṛsyāṅ vinītāyāmicchāmyahamupāsitum৷৷3.43.19৷৷


śaṣpabṛsyāṅ on a cushion of tender grass, vinītāyām it spread, nihatasya if killed, asya sattvasya this animal's, jāmbūnadamayatvaci its golden skin, aham I, upāsitum to sit, icchāmi desire.

If this animal is killed and its golden skin is spread on a tender grass cushion, there will I like to sit.
kāmavṛttamidaṅ raudraṅ strīṇāmasadṛśaṅ matam.

vapuṣā tvasya sattvasya vismayō janitō mama৷৷3.43.20৷৷


raudram terrible, idam this, kāmavṛttam arising out of desire, strīṇām for a woman, asadṛśam not desirable, matam opinion, tu you, asya even so, sattvasya this animal's, vapuṣā beauty of skin, mama me, vismayaḥ amazing, janitaḥ creating.

This kind of request arising out of a woman's desire may sound terrible, still then the beauty of this animal's skin has produced in me a wonder.
tēna kāñcanavarṇēna maṇipravaraśṛṅgiṇā.

taruṇādityavarṇēna nakṣatrapathavarcasā৷৷3.43.21৷৷

babhūva rāghavasyāpi manō vismayamāgatam.


kāñcanavarṇēna by its golden colour, maṇipravaraśṛṅgiṇā horned with excellent gems, taruṇādityavarṇēna by its colour resembling the rising Sun, nakṣatrapathavarcasā by shining like the milkyway, tēna by, rāghavasya of Rama, manaḥ api mind also, vismayam amazement, āgatam arose.

By his golden colour resembling the rising Sun, by his horns with excellent gems shining like the milkyway, even Rama's mind was wonder-struck.
ēvaṅ sītāvacaḥ śrutvā taṅ dṛṣṭvā mṛgamadbhutam৷৷3.43.22৷৷

lōbhitastēna rūpēṇa sītayā ca pracōditaḥ.

uvāca rāghavō hṛṣṭō bhrātaraṅ lakṣmaṇaṅ vacaḥ৷৷3.43.23৷৷


rāghavaḥ Rama, ēvam in that manner, sītāvacaḥ Sita's words, śrutvā listening, adbhutam wonderful, taṅ mṛgam that deer, dṛṣṭvā after seeing, tēna rūpēṇa by its appearance, lōbhitaḥ tempted, sītayā ca by Sita, pracōditaḥ prompted, hṛṣṭaḥ gladly, bhrātaram brother, lakṣmaṇam Lakshmana, vacaḥ words, uvāca said.

On hearing Sita's words and seeing the wonderful deer, Rama was tempted by its appearance.Prompted by Sita,he joyfully said this to Lakshmana:
paśya lakṣmaṇa vaidēhyāḥ spṛhāṅ mṛgagatāmimām.

rūpaśrēṣṭhatayā hyēṣa mṛgō.dya na bhaviṣyati৷৷3.43.24৷৷

na vanē nandanōddhēśē na caitrarathasaṅśrayē.

kutaḥpṛthivyāṅ saumitrē yō.sya kaścitsamō mṛgaḥ৷৷3.43.25৷৷


lakṣmaṇa O Lakshmana, vaidēhyāḥ Sita's, mṛgagatām pertaining to this deer, spṛhām desire, paśya you may see, saumitrē Lakshmana, adya now, rūpaśrēṣṭhatayā due to its excellent beauty, ēṣaḥ this, mṛgaḥ deer, vanē in the forest, na bhaviṣyati will not be found, nandanōddhēśē in the Nandana garden of Indra, na not, caitrarathasaṅśrayē in Chaitraratha,( garden of Kubera), na not, yaḥ any such, asya its, samaḥ equal, pṛthivyām on the earth, kutaḥ where do (we find).

O Lakshmana, see the eagerness of Sita. Such a deer of exceptional beauty will not be found in this forest. There is no equal to this animal even in the Nandan garden of Indra, or the Chaitraratha, the garden of Kubera. Where can such an animal be found on earth?
pratilōmānulōmāśca rucirā rōmarājayaḥ.

śōbhantē mṛgamāśritya citrāḥ kanakabindavaḥ৷৷3.43.26৷৷


pratilōmānulōmāḥ ca hair bent in the opposite direction and hair bent in the natural order, rucirāḥ beautiful, kanakabindavaḥ golden spots, citrāḥ beautiful, rōmarājayaḥ the stretches of hair on the body, mṛgam the deer, āśritya resorting to, śōbhantē are looking delightful.

The stretches of hair on the deer's body bent both in the natural order and in the opposite direction look beautiful. The spots of gold on the skin are wonderful.
paśyāsya jṛmbhamāṇasya dīptāmagniśikhōpamām.

jihvāṅ mukhānnissarantīṅ mēghādiva śatahradām৷৷3.43.27৷৷


jṛmbhamāṇasya while it is yawning, asya its, mukhāt from the mouth, nissarantīm stretching, dīptām glowing, agniśikhōpamām like flaming fires, mēghāt from the cloud, śatahradām iva like the
lightning, jihvām tongue, paśya see.

Look at his tongue stretched out of the mouth while yawning. It is glowing like flaming fire. It is like the lightning sparkling in the cloud.
masāragallarkamukhaśśaṅkhamuktānibhōdaraḥ.

kasya nāmābhirūpyō.sau na manō lōbhayēnmṛgaḥ৷৷3.43.28৷৷


masāragallarkamukhaḥ face like a drinking pot made of emerald, śaṅkhamuktānibhōdaraḥ belly like conch or pearl, abhirūpyaḥ indescribable, asau mṛgaḥ this deer, kasya nāma whose, manaḥ mind, na lōbhayēt not be attracted.

His face is a drinking pot of emerald, the belly is a conch or a pearl. Whose mind will not be attracted by this indescribable beauty ?
kasya rūpamidaṅ dṛṣṭvā jāmbūnada mayaprabham.

nānāratnamayaṅ divyaṅ na manō vismayaṅ vrajēt৷৷3.43.29৷৷


jāmbūnadamayaprabham glittering like the lustre of gold, nānāratnamayam adorned with a variety of gems, divyam divine, idam this, rūpam beauty, dṛṣṭvā after seeing, kasya whose, manaḥ heart, vismayam wonder, na vrajēt not attain.

Whose mind will not be filled with wonder on seeing this divine beauty glittering like lustrous gold and studded with a variety of gems ?
māṅsahētōrapi mṛgānvinōdārthaṅ ca dhanvanaḥ.

ghnanti lakṣmaṇa rājānō mṛgayāyāṅ mahāvanē৷৷3.43.30৷৷


lakṣmaṇa Lakshmana, rājānaḥ king, mahāvanē in a great forest, mṛgayāyām in hunting expedition, māṅsahētōḥ for meat, dhanvanaḥ archers, vinōdārtham for sporting, mṛgān deer, ghnanti will kill.

O Lakshmana! kings who wield bows in hunting expeditions kill deer in the forest for
sport as well as for venison.
dhanāni vyavasāyēna vicīyantē mahāvanē.

dhātavō vividhāścāpi maṇiratnasuvarṇinaḥ৷৷3.43.31৷৷


mahāvanē in the huge forest, vyavasāyēna with great effort, dhanāni wealth, maṇiratnasuvarṇinaḥ gems and gold etc, vividhāḥ of variety , dhātavaḥ precious minerals, vicīyantē will be collected.

From huge forests a variety of mineral wealth consisting of gems, stones and gold are collected with great effort.
tatsāramakhilaṅ nṛṇāṅ dhanaṅ nicayavardhanam.

manasā cintitaṅ sarvaṅ yathā śukrasya lakṣmaṇa৷৷3.43.32৷৷


lakṣmaṇa O Lakshmana, akhilam all, tat all that, sāram essence, dhanam wealth, nṛṇām of men, manasā in the mind, cintitam thought over, sarvam all, śukrasya yathā like Venus (Venus controls prosperity leading to procreation), nicayavardhanam growth of treasure.

O Lakshmana! the essence of forest wealth is mineral wealth, which helps the growth of the treasury. It is conceived mentally as in the case of Venus.
arthī yēnārthakṛtyēna saṅvrajatyavicārayan.

tamarthamarthaśāstrajñāḥ prāhurarthyāśca lakṣmaṇa৷৷3.43.33৷৷


lakṣmaṇa Lakshmana, arthī materialist, yēna by whichever, arthakṛtyēna done for material wealth, avicārayan without thinking, saṅvrajati moves about, tam that, arthaśāstrajñāḥ economists, arthyāḥ scientists, artham material, prāhuḥ called.

A materialist moves about thoughtlessly for making money. Economists call it material wealth.
ētasya mṛgaratnasya parārdhyē kāñcanatvaci.

upavēkṣyati vaidēhī mayā saha sumadhyamā৷৷3.43.34৷৷


sumadhyamā a lady of slender waist, vaidēhī Vaidehi, ētasya of this, mṛgaratnasya of the gem of a deer, parārdhyē in an excellent, kāñcanatvaci in a golden skin, mayā saha with me also, upavēkṣyati will sit.

na kādalī na priyakī na pravēṇī na cāvikī.

bhavēdētasya sadṛśī sparśanēnēti mē matiḥ৷৷3.43.35৷৷


sparśanēna by touch, kādalī black-striped antelope, ētasya of this, sadṛśī comparable, na bhavēt will be there, priyakī goat's, na or even, pravēṇī a hairy one, na not, āvikī ca of a sheep, na not, iti like this, mē I, matiḥ I think.

The skins of various types of deer like Priyaki, Kadali or goats or sheep cannot be compared in softness to the skin of this deer.
ēṣa caiva mṛgaśśrīmān yaśca divyō nabhaścaraḥ.

ubhāvētau mṛgau divyau tārāmṛgamahīmṛgau৷৷3.43.36৷৷


śrīmān majestic, ēṣaḥ this one, mṛgaścaiva that deer too, nabhaścaraḥ flying in the sky, yaśca whoever, divyaḥ divine, divyau both are divine, ētau these two, tārāmṛgamahīmṛgau deer of the stars and deer of the earth, ubhau both, mṛgau deer.

This majestic deer and the deer flying in heaven (the deer's figure seen in the Moon called Mrgasira) - both the deer of the star in the sky and the deer of the earth are divine.
yadi vā.yaṅ tathā yanmāṅ bhavēdvadasi lakṣmaṇa.

māyaiṣā rākṣasasyēti kartavyōsya vadhō mayā৷৷3.43.37৷৷


lakṣmaṇa Lakshmana, ēṣā this, rākṣasasya of a demon, māyā an illusion, iti thus, mām me, yat which, vadasi you say, tathā so also, ayam surely, bhavēdyadi if it is, vā or, mayā by me, asya his, vadhaḥ death, kartavyaḥ should be done.

Lakshmana, as you say, if it is the illusion of a demon, even then it should be killed by me.
ētēna hi nṛśaṅsēna mārīcēnākṛtātmanā.

vanē vicaratā pūrvaṅ hiṅsitā munipuṅgavāḥ৷৷3.43.38৷৷


nṛśaṅsēna by cruel, akṛtātmanā by evil-minded, vanē in the forest, vicaratā while wandering, ētēna by him, mārīcēna Maricha, pūrvam earlier, munipuṅgavāḥ great sages, hiṅsitāḥ are harassed.

The great sages were tortured and killed earlier by this cruel, evil-minded Maricha while wandering in the forest.
utthāya bahavō yēna mṛgayāyāṅ janādhipāḥ.

nihatāḥ paramēṣvāsāstasmādvadhyastvayaṅ mṛgaḥ৷৷3.43.39৷৷


yēna since, utthāya after rising, mṛgayāyām during hunting expedition, bahavaḥ many, paramēṣvāsāḥ great archers, janādhipāḥ kings, nihatāḥ killed, tasmāt therefore, mṛgaḥ deer, vadhyaḥ tu should be killed.

Many kings who were great archers who set out on hunting expedition were killed by him. Therefore, this animal deserves to be killed.
purastādiha vātāpiḥ paribhūya tapasvinaḥ.

udarasthō dvijānhantisvagarbhō.śvatarīmiva৷৷3.43.40৷৷


purastāt earlier, iha here, vātāpiḥ Vatapi, tapasvinaḥ ascetics, paribhūya defeating, udarasthaḥ stationed in the stomach, aśvatarīm female mule, svagarbhaḥ iva as its own womb, dvijān brahmins, hanti killed.

Earlier in this forest, Vatapi used to humiliate the ascetic brahmins and to kill them by entering into their stomach like a womb killing the female mule.
sa kadāciccirāllōbhādāsasāda mahāmunim.

agastyaṅ tējasā yuktaṅ bhakṣastasya babhūva ha৷৷3.43.41৷৷


saḥ that Vatapi, cirāt after a long time, kadācit once, lōbhāt greedily, tējasā by prowess, yuktam one endowed, mahāmunim great sage, agastyam Agasthya, āsasāda reached, tasya his, bhakṣaḥ food, babhūva ha became.

That Vatapi after a long time, once greedily entered into the stomach of the great lustrous sage Agastya and became his food.
samutthānē va tadrūpaṅ kartukāmaṅ samīkṣya tam.

utsmayitvā tu bhagavānvātāpimidamabravīt৷৷3.43.42৷৷


samutthānē when he rose, tat that, rūpam form, kartukāmam to turn into real form, tam him, vātāpim Vatapi, samīkṣya after seeing, bhagavān venerable sage, utsmayitvā by smiling at him, idam this, abravīt said.

When the venerable sage Agastya got up (after eating), he observed Vatapi wishing to turn into his real form. So smiling at him, he said:
tvayā.vigaṇya vātāpē paribhūtāssvatējasā.

jīvalōkē dvijaśrēṣṭhāstasmādasi jarāṅ gataḥ৷৷3.43.43৷৷


vātāpē O Vatapi, jīvalēkē in the world of living beings, dvijaśrēṣṭhāḥ best of brahmins, tvayā by you, avigaṇya disregarding, svatējasā with your power, paribhūtāḥ are insulted, tasmāt on
account of that, jarāṅ gataḥ got digested, asi you are.

'O Vatapi! you killed the best of brahmins living in this world, disregarding them because of your power. Hence you were digested by me.'
tadēvaṅ na bhavēdrakṣōvātāpiriva lakṣmaṇa.

madvidhaṅ yō.timanyēta dharmanityaṅ jitēndriyam৷৷3.43.44৷৷

bhavēddhatō.yaṅ vātāpiragastyēnēva māṅ gataḥ.


lakṣmaṇa Lakshmana, ēvam in that way, vātāpiriva just as Vatapi, tat that, rakṣaḥ demon, na bhavēt not live, yaḥ who, dharmanityam always righteous, jitēndriyam senses controlled , madvidham my kind, atimanyēta whoever violates, ayam this, māṅ me, gataḥ gone, agastyēna by Agastya, vātāpiriva like Vatapi, hataḥ be killed, bhavēt will be.

O Lakshmana! just like Vatapi, this demon will not live. Whoever violates a person of my kind who is ever righteous and self-controlled will be killed
iha tvaṅ bhava sannaddō yantritō rakṣa maithilīm৷৷3.43.45৷৷

asyāmāyattamasmākaṅ yatkṛtyaṅ raghunandana.


raghunandana O delight of the Raghu dynasty, tvam you, iha here, sannaddhaḥ be ready, bhava your, yantritaḥ very alert, maithilīm Maithili, rakṣa protect, asmākam for us, yat whatever, kṛtyam is the task, asyām in her, āyattam is dependent.

ahamēnaṅ vadhiṣyāmi grahīṣyāmyapi vā mṛgam৷৷3.43.46৷৷

yāvadgacchāmi saumitrē mṛgamānayituṅ drutam.

paśya lakṣmaṇa vaidēhīṅ mṛgatvaci gataspṛhām৷৷3.43.47৷৷

tvacā pradhānayā hyēṣa mṛgō.dya na bhaviṣyati.

apramattēna tē bhāvyamāśramasthēna sītayā৷৷3.43.48৷৷

yāvatpṛṣatamēkēna sāyakēna nihanmyaham.

hatvaitaccarma cādāya śīghramēṣyāmi lakṣmaṇa৷৷3.43.49৷৷

Keep vigil over Sita at the hermitage, O Lakshmana ! I will certainly kill the speckled antelope with a single arrow, get his skin and come back quickly.
pradakṣiṇēnātibalēna pakṣiṇā jaṭāyuṣā buddhimatā ca lakṣmaṇa.

bhavāpramattaḥ parigṛhya maithilīṅ pratikṣaṇaṅ sarvata ēva śaṅkitaḥ৷৷3.43.50৷৷

Thus ends the fortythird sarga in Aranyakanda of the holy Ramayana the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
