[Further description of the aerial car, Pushpaka ]

स तस्य मध्ये भवनस्य संस्थितं

महद्विमानं मणिवज्रचित्रितम्।

प्रतप्तजाम्बूनदजालकृत्रिमं

ददर्श वीरः पवनात्मजः कपिः।।5.8.1।।


वीरः courageous, पवनात्मजः son of the Windgod, सः कपिः that vanara, तस्य भवनस्य of that mansion, मध्ये in the middle, संस्थितम् standing, मणिवज्रचित्रितम् rendered beautiful with gems and diamonds, प्रतप्तजाम्बूनदजालकृत्रिमम् adorned with latticed windows of barnished gold, महत् great, विमानम् aerial chariot, ददर्श saw.

The courageous son of the Windgod, Hanuman, the vanara saw the aerial chariot kept in the middle of the mansion inlaid with gems and diamonds latticed with artificial windows of barnished gold.
तदप्रमेयाप्रतिकारकृत्रिमं

कृतं स्वयं साध्विति विश्वकर्मणा।

दिवं गतं वायुपथप्रतिष्ठितं

व्यराजतादित्यपथस्य लक्ष्मवत्।।5.8.2।।


अप्रमेयाप्रतिकारकृत्रिमम् with images of incomparable beauty and immeasureable skill, विश्वकर्मणा by Visvakarma, स्वयम् himself, साध्विति product of excellent achievement, कृतम् fashioned, दिवम् sky, गतम् going, वायुपथप्रतिष्ठितम् which was placed in the aerial path, तत् that, आदित्यपथस्य in the orbit of the Sun, लक्ष्मवत् like a beaconlight, व्यराजत shone.

The immeasurable Pushpaka fashioned by Visvakarma with images of incomparable
beauty was not possible to describe. An excellent product of his achievement, it was placed in the aerial path appearing as a beaconlight (signpost) in the orbit of the Sun.
न तत्र किञ्चिन्न कृतं प्रयत्नतो

न तत्र किञ्चिन्न महार्हरत्नवत्।

न ते विशेषा नियताः सुरेष्वपि

न तत्र किञ्चिन्न महाविशेषवत्।।5.8.3।।


तत्र there, प्रयत्नतः by special effort, न कृतम् not only done, किञ्चित् anything, न not, तत्र there, न महार्हरत्नवत् with costly gems, किञ्चित् a litttle, न not, ते those, विशेषाः unique, सुरेष्वपि even to deities, न नियताः not present, तत्र there, न महाविशेषवत् very special, किञ्चित् न indeed it was.

There was nothing in Pushpaka which was not executed carefully with special effort, nothing which was not made of precious stones. Such privileges were not available to even gods. Indeed there was nothing which was not unique.
तपः समाधानपराक्रमार्जितं

मनः समाधानविचारचारिणम्।

अनेकसंस्थानविशेषनिर्मितं

ततस्ततस्तुल्यविशेषदर्शनम्।।5.8.4।।


तपः spiritual efforts, समाधानपराक्रमार्जितम् designed through concentration and prowess, मनः समाधानविचारचारिणम् which can reach the places desired by the thought of its master, अनेकसंस्थानविशेषनिर्मितम् built with many special seats, ततस्ततः at all places, तुल्यविशेषदर्शनम् of equally good appearance

(The Pushpaka) was designed by dint of divine efforts and prowess (of Kubera). It could touch any place its master commanded with a cool mind. It had many beautiful
places of rest.
विशेषमालम्ब्य विशेषसंस्थितं

विचित्रकूटं बहुकूटमण्डितम्।

मनोऽभिरामं शरदिन्दुनिर्मलं

विचित्रकूटं शिखरं गिरेर्यथा।।5.8.5।।


विशेषम् special, आलम्ब्य resorting to, विशेषसंस्थितम् designed in a unique manner, विचित्रकूटम् with wonderful peaks, बहुकूटमण्डितम् decorated with many peaks, मनोऽभिरामम् delightful to the mind, शरदिन्दुनिर्मलम् pleasing as autumnal fullmoon, गिरेः mountain's, विचित्रकूटम् wonderful towers, शिखरं यथा like the peak.

The Pushpaka was specially designed in a unique manner. It was decorated with many colourful peaks. It was delghtful and pleasing to the mind and bright like the autumnal fullmoon. It looked like a mountain with many wonderful towers around.
वहन्ति यं कुण्डलशोभिताननाः

महाशना व्योमचरा निशाचराः।

विवृत्तविध्वस्तविशाललोचनाः

महाजवा भूतगणाः सहस्रशः।।5.8.6।।


यम् such (a chariot), कुण्डलशोभिताननाः faces brightened by the earrings, महाशनाः gluttons, व्योमचराः ranging in the sky, निशाचराः nightrangers, विवृत्तविध्वस्त विशाललोचनाः with big rolling and frightening eyes, महाजवाः of tremendous speed, भूतगणाः groups of Bhutas, सहस्रशः in thousands, वहन्ति drawing.

The Pushpaka was borne by multitudes of Bhutas whose faces were shining with earrings, who were demons ranging in the night sky. They were gluttons endowed with great speed, and they had big, rolling and frightening eyes.
वसन्तपुष्पोत्करचारुदर्शनं

वसन्तमासादपि कान्तदर्शनम्।

स पुष्पकं तत्र विमानमुत्तमं

ददर्श तद्वानरवीरसत्तमः।।5.8.7।।


तत् that, वानरवीरसत्तमः hero among monkeys, सः he, वसन्तपुष्पोत्करचारुदर्शनम् looking beautiful like a collection of blossoms of spring, वसन्तमासादपि more delightful than spring, कान्तदर्शनम् appearing beautiful, पुष्पकम् Pushpaka, उत्तमम् excellent, विमानम् aerial chariot, तत्र there, ददर्श saw.

That hero among monkeys, beheld the aerial chariot looking beautiful like a colourful collection of spring blossoms. Its appearance was more pleasant than spring itself.
इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये सुन्दरकाण्डे अष्टमस्सर्गः।।
Thus ends the eighth sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
