[Bharadwaja extends elaborate hospitality to Bharata and his entourage -- Invokes Visvakarma to make necessary arrangements.]

कृतबुद्धिं निवासाय तत्रैव स मुनिस्तदा।

भरतं कैकयीपुत्रमातिथ्येनन्यमन्त्रयत्।।2.91.1।।


सः that, मुनिः sage (Bharadwaja), तदा then, तत्रैव there itself, निवासाय to stay, कृतबुद्धिम् having resolved, कैकयीपुत्रम् Kaikeyi's son, भरतम् Bharata, आतिथ्येन with hospitality, न्यमन्त्रयत् invited.

With the decision of Bharata, son of Kaikeyi, to stay there for the night, sage Bharadwaja extended to him all hospitality.
अब्रवीद्भरतस्त्वेनं नन्विदं भवता कृतम्।

पाद्यमर्घ्यं तथाऽतिथ्यं वने यदुपपद्यते।।2.91.2।।


भरतस्तु as for Bharata, एनम् to him, अब्रवीत् said, भवता by you, पाद्यम् water for washing the feet with, अर्घ्यम् welcome offering, तथा also, वने in the forest, यत् whichever, उपपद्यते is available, इदम् this, आतिथ्यम् hospitality, कृतं ननु has been made.

Bharata said to Bharadwaja, You have already extended the hospitality in offering water for washing the feet with and of arghya befitting a guest as available in the forest.
अथोवाच भरद्वाजो भरतं प्रहसन्निव।

जाने त्वां प्रीतिसंयुक्तं तुष्येस्त्वं येन केनचित्।।2.91.3।।


अथ then, भरद्वाजः Bharadwaja, प्रहसन्निव with a gentle smile, भरतम् to Bharata, उवाच said, त्वाम् you, प्रीतिसंयुक्तम् are full of love, जाने I know, त्वाम् you, येन केन चित् with whatever
offered, तुष्येः are contented.

Bharadwaja then said to Bharata with a gentle smile, I know you are full of love and content with whatever is offered you.
सेनायास्तु तवैतस्याः कर्तुमिच्छामि भोजनम्।

मम प्रीतिर्यथारूपा तथार्हो मनुजर्षभ।।2.91.4।।


मनुजर्षभ best among mortals, तव your, एतस्याः for all the, सेनायाः the army men, भोजनम् food, कर्तुम् I am to offer, इच्छामि wish, मम my, प्रीतिः pleasure, यथा रूपा in whatever way, तथा accordingly, अर्हः worthy of.

O Bharata, the best of men, I want to treat your army with food. This will please me and I hope you will act accordingly.
किमर्थं चापि निक्षिप्य दूरे बलमिहागतः।

कस्मान्नेहोपयातोऽसि सबलः पुरुषर्षभः।।2.91.5।।


पुरुषर्षभः best of men, किमर्थम् for what reason, बलम् army, दूरे at a distance, निक्षिप्य having stationed, इह here, आगतः you have come, इह here, सबलः with your army, कस्मात् why, न उपयातः असि not come with.

Why did you, O Bharata, the best of men, station your army at a distance before coming here? Could you not approach me along with your army?
भरतः प्रत्युवाचेदं प्राञ्जलिस्तं तपोधनम्।

ससैन्यो नोपयातोऽस्मि भगवन्भगवद्भयात्।।2.91.6।।


भरतः Bharata, प्राञ्जलिः with folded palms (in reverence), तपोधनम् who has benance as his wealth (sage), तम् him, इदम् this, प्रत्युवाच replied, भगवन् O venerable one, भगवद्भयात् for fear of you, ससैन्यः with army, नोपयातोऽस्मि did not approach.

With folded palms (in reverence), Bharata said to sage Bharadwaja whose penance was his wealth: I did not approach you with the army for fear of you, O venerable one.
राज्ञा च भगवन्नित्यं राजपुत्रेण वा सदा।

यत्नतः परिहर्तव्या विषयेषु तपस्विनः।।2.91.7।।


भगवन् O venerable one, राज्ञा by the king, राजपुत्रेण वा or by a king's son, विषयेषु in places, सदा always, तपस्विनः of ascetics, यत्नतः intentionally, परिहर्तव्याः should be avoided.

O venerable one a king or a prince ought to intentionally avoid those places occupied by ascetics.
वाजिमुख्या मनुष्याश्च मत्ताश्च वरवारणाः।

प्रच्छाद्य भगवन्भूमिं महतीमनुयान्ति माम्।।2.91.8।।


भगवन् O Lord, वाजिमुख्याः spirited horses, मनुष्याश्च men also, मत्ताः rutting, वरवारणाश्च mighty elephants, महतीम् wide, भूमिम् earth, प्रच्छाद्य spread over, माम् me, अनुयान्ति are following.

O venerable sage spirited horses, men and mighty rutting elephants follow me covering a wide expanse of land.
ते वृक्षानुदकं भूमिमाश्रमेषूटजां स्तथा।

न हिंस्युरिति तेनाऽहमेक एव समागतः।।2.91.9।।


ते they, आश्रमेषु in ashrams, वृक्षान् trees, उदकम् water, भूमिम् land, तथा also, उटजान् huts, न हिंस्युः shall not damage, इति so, तेन therefore, अहम् I, एक एव alone, समागतः came here.

Lest the army should damage the huts, trees, land, and defile the water in the ashram, I came here alone.
आनीयतामितस्सेनेत्याज्ञप्तः परमर्षिणा।

ततस्तु चक्रे भरतस्सेनायास्समुपागमम्।।2.91.10।।


ततस्तु all, सेना army, इतः here, अनीयताम् be brought, इति thus, परमर्षिणा great sage, आज्ञप्तः having been commanded, भरतः Bharata, सेनायाः the army's, समुपागमम् to get, चक्रे made.

Thus commanded the great ascetic, 'Let the army be brought here'. Accordingly, Bharata ordered the army to come.
अग्निशालां प्रविश्याथ पीत्वाऽपः परिमृज्य च।

आतिथ्यस्य क्रियाहेतोर्विश्वकर्माणमाह्वयत्।।2.91.11।।


अथ then, अग्निशालाम् fire sanctuary, प्रविश्य entered, आपः water, पीत्वा sipped, परिमृज्य च washing his hands, आतिथ्यस्य for the hospitality, क्रियाहेतोः to provide, विश्वकर्माणम् to Visvakarma, आह्वयत् invoked.

Then Bharadwaja entered the fire sanctuary, sipped water and washed his hands with water and invoked Visvakarma to provide hospitality.
आह्वये विश्वकर्माणमहं त्वष्टारमेव च।

आतिथ्यं कर्तुमिच्छामि तत्र मे संविधीयताम्।।2.91.12।।


अहम् I, आतिथ्यम् hospitality, कर्तुम् to perform, इच्छामि am intending, त्वष्टारम् एव च even Tvastara who builds homes, विश्वकर्माणम् Visvakarma, आह्वये I am invoking, तत्र in this matter, मे to me, संविधीयताम् things may be arranged.

I intend to provide hospitality for which I am invoking Visvakarma and Tvastara who builds houses. Let adequate arrangements be made.
आह्वये लोकपालांस्त्रीन् देवान् शक्रमुखांस्तथा।

आतिथ्यं कर्तुमिच्छामि तत्र मे संविधीयताम्।।2.91.13।।


तथा like that, शक्रमुखान् Indra in the forefront, लोकपालान् guardians of the (four) quarters, त्रीन् देवान् three deities, आह्वये I am invoking, आतिथ्यम् hospitality, कर्तुम् to provide, इच्छामि desiring तत्र in this matter, मे to me, संविधीयताम् arrangements be made.

I invoke the three deities, guardians of the four quarters headed by Indra to extend hospitality (to Bharata). Let them make adequate arrangements in this regard.
प्राक्स्रोतसश्च या नद्यः प्रत्यक्स्रोतस एव च।

पृथिव्यामन्तरिक्षे च समायान्त्वद्य सर्वशः।।2.91.14।।


या नद्यः those revers, पृथिव्याम् on the earth, अन्तरिक्षे in the sky, प्राक्स्रोतसः flowing towards the east, प्रत्यक्स्रोतसः towards the west, सर्वशः from everywhere, अद्य now, समायान्तु may come.

Let the rivers flowing towards the east, and the west, flowing on the earth and in the sky, flowing everywhere reach here and now.
अन्या स्रवन्तु मैरेयं सुरामन्यास्सुविष्ठिताम्।

अपरा श्चोदकं शीतमिक्षुकाण्डरसोपमम्।।2.91.15।।


अन्याः other rivers, मैरेयम् intoxicating liquour (made of datepalms), स्रवन्तु let them flow, अन्याः other rivers, सुविष्ठिताम् wellprepared, सुराम् wine, अपराश्च still others, इक्षुकाण्डरसोपमम् tasting like sugar cane juice, शीतम् cool, उदकम् water, स्रवन्तु let them flow.

Let some rivers flow with liquor made of datepalms, some with wellprepared wine and some with cool water which tastes like sugarcane juice.
आह्वये देवगन्धर्वान्विश्वावसुहहाहुहून्।

तथैवाप्सरसो देवीर्गन्धर्वीश्चापि सर्वशः।।2.91.16।।


देवगन्धर्वान् the gandharvas of deities, विश्वावसु Visvavasu, हहाहुहून् Ha Ha and Hu Hu, तथैव also, देवीः goddesses, गन्धर्वीश्चापि female gandharvas (heavenly musicians), अप्सरसः apsaras (nymphs), सर्वशः from all regions, आह्वये invoke.

I invoke the gandharvas, Visvavasu, Ha Ha and Hu Hu, and also goddesses like gandharvas (heavenly musicians) and apsaras (nymphs) from all regions.
घृताचीमथ विश्वाचीं मिश्रकेशीमलंबुसाम्।

नागदन्तां च हेमां च हिमामद्रिकृतस्थलाम्।।2.91.17।।


अथ also, घृताचीम् Grutachi, विश्वाचीम् Visvachi, मिश्रकेशीम् Misrakesi, अलंबुसाम् Alambusa, नागदन्तां च Nagadanta, हेमां च Hema, अद्रिकृतस्थलाम् whose abode is on the mountain, हिमाम् Hima I am summoning.

I summon also Grutachi, Visvachi, Misrakesi, Alambusa, Nagadantha, Hema and Hima whose abode is on the mountain.
शक्रं याश्चोपतिष्ठन्ति ब्रह्माणं याश्च योषितः।

सर्वास्तुम्बुरुणा सार्धमाह्वये सपरिच्छदाः।।2.91.18।।


याश्च those, योषितः women, शक्रम् Indra, उपतिष्ठन्ति are serving, याश्च those, ब्रह्माणम् attending on Bramha, सपरिच्छदाः with all their musical instruments, सर्वाः all, तुम्बुरुणा सार्धम् with their tumbur, आह्वये I am invoking.

I invoke all the women who attend on Indra and Bramha along with tumbur with all their (musical) instruments.
वनं कुरुषु यद्दिव्यं वासोभूषणपत्रवत्।

दिव्यनारीफलं शश्वत्तत्कौबेरमिहैतु च।।2.91.19।।


कुरुषु in the land of Kurus, शश्वत् always, वासोभूषणपत्रवत् leaves serving as raiment and
ornaments, दिव्यनारीफलम् celestial women as fruits, कौबेरम् relating to Kubera, यत् which, दिव्यं वनम् divine forest, तत् that, इह here, एतु let it come over.

Let Kubera's divine forest situated in the land of Kurus, where leaves serve as raiment and ornaments and celestial women as its fruits come here.
इह मे भगवान् सोमो विधत्तामन्नमुत्तमम्।

भक्ष्यंभोज्यं च चोष्यं च लेह्यं च विविधं बहु।।2.91.20।।


भगवान् the lord, सोमः Moon, मे for me, इह here, उत्तमम् excellent, अन्नम् food, विविधम् many kinds, बहु many varieties, भक्ष्यम् eatables, भोज्यम् chewable food, चोष्यम् food eaten by sucking, लेह्यं च that which is licked, विधत्ताम् be provided.

Let the blessed Moon furnish me with excellent food of every kind -- solid, liquid, soft and those which are to be sucked and licked in great variety and quantity.
विचित्राणि च माल्यानि पादपप्रच्युतानि च।

सुरादीनि च पेयानि मांसानि विविधानि च।।2.91.21।।


पादपप्रच्युतानि those dropped from trees, विचित्राणि manycoloured, माल्यानि च flower garlands, सुरादीनि wines and others, पेयानि drinks, विविधानि of different kinds, मांसानि च meat be furnished.

Let her furnish me with manycoloured garlands of fresh flowers from trees, wines and other drinks and meat of different kinds.
एवं समाधिना युक्तस्तेजसाऽप्रतिमेन च।

शीक्षास्वरसमायुक्तं तपसा चाब्रवीन्मुनिः।।2.91.22।।


समाधिना in profound meditation, अप्रतिमेन incomparable, तेजसा च with radiance, तपसा च with the power of penance, युक्तं filled with, मुनिः ascetic, शीक्षास्वरसमायुक्तम् with accent in conformity with Vedic instruction, एवम् in this way, अब्रवीत् said.

The valiant ascetic of incomparable lustre and power of penance in profound meditation said this in an accent in conformity with Vedic instruction.
मनसा ध्यायतस्तस्य प्राङ्मुखस्य कृताञ्जलेः।

आजग्मुस्तानि सर्वाणि दैवतानि पृथक्पृथक्।।2.91.23।।


तस्य his, प्राङ्मुखस्य facing east, कृताञ्जलेः with folded palms, मनसा in mind, ध्यायतः while meditating, सर्वाणि all, तानि दैवतानि those deities, पृथक्पृथक् one by one, आजग्मुः arrived.

As Bharadwaja with folded palms was thus meditating with his face turned eastward, all the deities appeared there one by one.
मलयं दर्दुरं चैव ततस्स्वेदनुदोऽनिलः।

उपस्पृश्य ववौ युक्त्या सुप्रियात्मा सुखश्शिवः।।2.91.24।।


ततः then, अनिलः wind, मलयम् Malaya hill, दर्दुरं चैव mount Dardura, उपस्पृश्य having touched, युक्त्या by virtue of contact, सुप्रियात्मा most pleasant, सुखः comforting, शिवः auspicious, स्वेदनुदः cooling the sweat, ववौ blew.

Meanwhile, soft auspicious and pleasant breeze passing over Malaya and Dardura mountains, comforting and cooling the sweat, began to blow.
ततोऽभ्यवर्षन्त घना दिव्याः कुसुमवृष्टयः।

दिव्यदुन्दुभिघोषश्च दिक्षु सर्वासु शुश्रुवे।।2.91.25।।


ततः then, दिव्याः celestial, कुसुमवृष्टयः rain of flowers, घनाः clouds, अभ्यवर्षन्त showered, सर्वासु in all, दिक्षु directions, दिव्यदुन्दुभिघोषश्च sounds of divine musical gongs, शुश्रुवे could be heard.

Then divine clouds rolled in and showered celestial flowers. The sounds of heavenly gongs could be heard in every direction.
प्रववुश्चोत्तमा वाता ननृतुश्चाप्सरोगणाः।

जगुश्च देवगन्धर्वा वीणाः प्रमुमुचुस्स्वरान्।।2.91.26।।


उत्तमाः gentle, वाताश्च winds, प्रववु blew, अप्सरोगणाः troops of apsaras, ननृतुश्च also danced, देवगन्धर्वाः divine gandharvas, जगुश्च sang, वीणाः lyres, स्वरान् notes, प्रमुमुचुः issued forth.

Gentle breeze began to blow. Troops of apsaras danced. Gandharvas and gods sang and the lyres rang.
स शब्दो द्यां च भूमिं च प्राणिनां श्रवणानि च।

विवेशोच्चरितश्श्लक्ष्णस्समो लयसमन्वितः।।2.91.27।।


उच्चरितः uttered, श्लक्षणः soft melody, लयसमन्वितः rhythmic, समः modulation, सः शब्दः those sounds, द्यां च the sky, भूमिं च the earth, प्राणिनाम् of all living beings, श्रवणानि च in the ears, विवेश entered.

That soft, melodious, rhythmic and wellmodulated sound entered the heaven and earth as well as the ears of all living beings.
तस्मिन्नुपरते शब्दे दिव्ये श्रोत्र सुखे नृणाम्।

ददर्श भारतं सैन्यं विधानं विश्वकर्मणः।।2.91.28।।


नृणाम् for men, शोत्रसुखे pleasing to the ears, तस्मिन् when that, दिव्ये celestial, शब्दे sound, उपरते had subsided, भारतम् relating to Bharata, सैन्यम् army, विश्वकर्मणः Visvakarma's, विधानम् the creations, ददर्श he beheld.

When the celestial sounds pleasing to the ears of men had subsided, the army of Bharata beheld the wonderful creations of Visvakarma.
बभूव हि समा भूमिस्समन्तात्पञ्चयोजना।

शाद्वलैर्भहुभिश्चन्ना नीलवैढूर्यसन्निभैः।।2.91.29।।


समन्तात् on every side, पञ्चयोजना five yojanas (forty miles), भूमिः the ground, समा has been levelled, नीलवैढूर्यसन्निभैः with sapphires or gems called cat'seye (beryl) spread,
बहुभिः by many, शाद्वलैः grass lawns, छन्ना covered with, बभूव हि became৷৷

The ground was levelled on every side for five yojanas and covered with several grass lawns resembling lapis lazuli (blue sapphire) and cat's eye.
तस्मिन्बिल्वाः कपित्थाश्च पनसा बीजपूरकाः।

आमलक्यो बभूवुश्च चूताश्च फलभूषणाः।।2.91.30।।


तस्मिन् there, फलभूषणाः fruits as adorenments, बिल्वाः Bilva, कपित्थाश्च woodapple trees, पनसाः jackfruit trees, बीजपूरकाः citron trees, आमलक्यः emblic myrobalan trees, चूताश्च mangotrees, बभूवुः sprang up.

There the best of fruitbearing trees like bilva trees, woodapple trees, citrons, emblic myrobalan trees and mango trees laden with fruits sprang up.
उत्तरेभ्यः कुरुभ्यश्च वनं दिव्योपभोगवत्।

आजगाम नदी दिव्या तीरजैर्भहुभिर्वृता।।2.91.31।।


उत्तरेभ्यः कुरुभ्यः from the kingdom of northern Kurus, दिव्योपभोगवत् with all heavenly delights, वनम् forest, बहुभिः by innumerable, तीरजैः trees growing on the banks, कृता surrounded, दिव्या divine, नदी river, आजगाम came into existence.

From the forests of the northern Kuru kingdom, with all delights of heaven, a divine river with innumerable trees that grow on river banks came into existence.
चतुश्शालानि शुभ्राणि शालाश्च गजवाजिनाम्।

हर्म्यप्रासादसम्बाधास्तोरणानि शुभानि च।।2.91.32।।


शुभ्राणि bright, चतुश्शालानि quadrangles, गजवाजिनाम् for horses and elephants, शालाश्च stables, शुभानि auspicious, हर्म्यप्रासादसम्बाधास्तोरणानि consisting of archways for palaces and mansions sprang up.

Bright quadrangles, stables for elephants and horses, auspicious arch ways for palaces and mansions sprang up.
सितमेघनिभं चापि राजवेश्म सुतोरणम्।

दिव्यमाल्यकृताकारं दिव्यगन्धसमुक्षितम्।।2.91.33।।

चतुरश्रमसंबाधं शयनासनयानवत्।

दिव्यैस्सर्वरसैर्युक्तं दिव्यभोजनवस्त्रवत्।।2.91.34।।

उपकल्पितसर्वान्नं धौतनिर्मलभाजनम्।

क्लुप्तसर्वासनं श्रीमत्स्वास्तीर्णशयनोत्तमम्।।2.91.35।।


सितमेघनिभम् like white clouds, सुतोरणम् with beautiful archs, दिव्यमाल्यकृताकारम् adorned with fine garlands, दिव्यगन्धसमुक्षितं sprinkled with celestial perfumes, चतुरश्रम् forming a quadrangle, असंबाधम् very spacious, शयनासनयानवत् furnished with couches, seats and carriages, दिव्यैः by the celestial, सर्वरसैः with all kinds of drinks, युक्तम् arranged with, दिव्यभोजनवस्त्रवत् with heavenly food and dress, उपकल्पितसर्वान्नं stocked with food of every variety, धौतनिर्मलभाजनम् clean washed pots, क्लुप्तसर्वासनम् with seats arranged for every one, स्वास्तीर्णशयनोत्तमम् with magnificent couches covered with excellent bedstead, श्रीमत् auspicious, राजवेश्मचापि a royal palace also sprang up.

An auspicious royal palace with splendid archs resembling white clouds sprang up. It was sprinkled with celestial perfumes and adorned with beautiful garlands. That royal palace forming a quadrangle was furnished with couches, seats and carriages and furnished with celestial drinks of every kind, delicious food and splendid garments. It was stocked with food of every variety in clean and spotless vessels. Seats for every one and magnificent couches covered with excellent bedstead were arranged.
प्रविवेश महाबाहुरनुज्ञातो महर्षिणा।

वेश्म तद्रत्नसम्पूर्णं भरतः कैकयीसुतः।।2.91.36।।


महाबाहुः longarmed, कैकयीसुतः son of Kaikeyi, भरतः Bharata, महर्षिणा by the great sage,
अनुज्ञातः having been permitted, रत्नसम्पूर्णम् full of jewels, तत् that, वेश्म house, प्रविवेश entered.

Longarmed Bharata, son of Kaikeyi entered that palace full of jewels with the permission of the great sage.
अनुजग्मुश्च तं सर्वे मन्त्रिणस्सपुरोहिताः।

बभूवुश्च मुदा युक्ता दृष्ट्वा तं वेश्मसंविधिम्।।2.91.37।।


सपुरोहिताः along with priests, सर्वे all, मन्त्रिणः ministers, तम् that Bharata, अनुजग्मुश्च followed, तम् संविधिम् that arrangement, दृष्ट्वा having seen all over, मुदा full of joy, युक्ताः filled with बभूवुश्च became.

All the ministers, priests followed him and were glad to see the arrangement in that mansion.
तत्र राजासनं दिव्यं व्यजनं छत्रमेव च।

भरतो मन्त्रिभिस्सार्धमभ्यवर्तत राजवत्।।2.91.38।।


भरतः Bharata, मन्त्रिभिः सार्धं in the company of ministers, तत्र there, दिव्यम् exquisite, राजासनम् throne, व्यजनम् a fan (of yak's tail), छत्रमेव च parasol, राजवत् like a king, अभ्यवर्तत stayed.

There where stood an exquisite throne, a fan and a parasol Bharata stayed in the company of ministers.
आसनं पूजयामास रामायाभिप्रणम्य च।

वालव्यजनमादाय न्यषीदत्सचिवासने।।2.91.39।।


रामाय to Rama, अभिप्रणम्य च having bowed in reverence, आसनम् that throne, पूजयामास worshipped, वालव्यजनम् fan made of yak's tail, आदाय taking hold of, सचिवासने in a minister's seat, न्यषीदत् sat down

He bowed in reverence and worshipped the throne (as though Rama were seated there). Taking hold of a fan made of yak's tail he sat in a minister's seat.
आनुपूर्व्यान्निषेदुश्च सर्वे मन्त्रिपुरोहिताः।

ततस्सेनापतिः पश्चात्प्रशास्ताच निषेदतुः।।2.91.40।।


सर्वे all, मन्त्रिपुरोहिताः ministers and priests, आनुपूर्व्यात् in order, निषेदुः sat, ततः सेनापति after that the army chief, पश्चात् later, प्रशास्ता च and the supervisor of the camp, निषेदतुः sat.

First the ministers and priests took their respective seats in accordance with their rank, and then the army chief and finally the supervisor of the camp.
तत स्तत्र मुहूर्तेन नद्यः पायसकर्दमाः।

उपातिष्ठन्त भरतं भरद्वाजस्य शासनात्।।2.91.41।।


ततः then, भरद्वाजस्य by Bharadwaja, शासनात् order, मुहूर्तेन instantly, तत्र there, पायसकर्दमाः payasam (rice cooked in milk with sugar) as mud, नद्यः rivers, भरतम् Bharata, उपातिष्ठन्त approached.

Rivers filled with payasam (rice cooked in milk and sugar) in the shape of mud flowed towards Bharata at the command of Bharadwaja.
तासामुभयतः कूलं पाण्डुमृत्तिकलेपनाः।

रम्याश्चावसधा दिव्या ब्रह्मणस्तु प्रसादजा:।।2.91.42।।


तासाम् those rivers, उभयतः कूलम् on both the banks, पाण्डुमृत्तिलेपनाः plastered with white
clay, ब्रह्मणः Brahma, प्रसादजाः produced by the grace, दिव्याः celestial, रम्याः charming, आवसधाश्च houses appeared.

On both the banks of those rivers, charming, celestial houses plastered with white clay appeared by the grace of Brahma.
तेनैव च मूहूर्तेन दिव्याऽभरणभूषिताः।

आगुर्विंशतिसाहस्राः ब्रह्मणा प्रहिताः स्त्रियः।।2.91.43।।


तेन at that, मुहूर्तेन च moment, दिव्याभरणभूषिताः adorned with beautiful ornaments, ब्रह्मणा by Brahma, प्रहिताः sent, विंशतिसाहस्राः twenty thousand, स्त्रियः women, आगुः came.

At that very moment twenty thousand women adorned with beautiful ornaments sent by Brahma presented themselves.
सुवर्णमणिमुक्तेन प्रवालेन च शोभिताः।

आगुर्विंशतिसाहास्राः कुबेरप्रहिताः स्त्रियः।।2.91.44।।


सुवर्णमणिमुक्तेन wearing golden ornaments and gems, प्रवालेन with corals, शोभिता shining, कुबेरप्रहिताः sent by Kubera, विंशतिसाहस्राः twenty thousand, स्त्रियः आगुः women came.

Twenty thousand women adorned with gold, gems and corals sent by Kubera came.
याभिर्गृहीतः पुरुषस्सोन्माद इव लक्ष्यते।

आगुर्विंशतिसाहस्रा नन्दनादप्सरोगणाः।।2.91.45।।


याभिः by whom, गृहीतः when taken hold of (in their arms), पुरुषः man, सोन्माद इव filled with intense passion, लक्ष्यते is observed, such, विंशतिसाहस्राः twenty thousand, अप्सरोगणाः troops of apsaras, नन्दनात् from Nandana, आगुः came.

Troops of twenty thousand apsaras by whom any man when taken hold of in their arms could be intoxicated with intense passion, came from Nandana gardens.
नारदस्तुम्भुरुर्गोपः प्रवरास्सूर्यवर्चसः।

एते गन्धर्वराजानो भरतस्याग्रतो जगुः।।2.91.46।।


नारदः Narada, तुम्भुरुः Tumburu, गोपः Gopa, प्रवराः distinguished ones, सूर्यवर्चसः resembling the brightness of the Sun, एते these, गन्धर्वराजानः kings among gandharvas, भरतस्य Bharata's, अग्रतः presence, जगुः began to sing.

There along with Narada, Tumburu and Gopa, distinguished kings of the gandharvas, looking bright like the Sun, began to sing in the presence of Bharata.
अलम्बुसा मिश्रकेशी पुण्डरीकाऽथ वामना।

उपानृत्यंस्तु भरतं भरद्वाजस्य शासनात्।।2.91.47।।


अथ thereafter, भरद्वाजस्य Bharadwaja's, शासनात् command, अलम्बुसा Alambusa, मिश्रकेशी Misrakese, पुण्डरीका Pundarika, वामना Vamana, भरतम् Bharata, उपानृत्यन् तु danced near.

Thereafter, the apsaras, Alambusa, Misrakesi, Pundarika and Vamana danced near Bharata at the command of Bharadwaja.
यानि माल्यानि देवेषु यानि चैत्ररथे वने।

प्रयागे तान्यदृश्यन्त भरद्वाजस्य शासनात्।।2.91.48।।


यानि those, माल्यानि garlands, देवेषु among the gods, यानि those garlands, चैत्ररथे of Chaitraratha, वने in the garden, तानि all those, भरद्वाजस्य Bharadwaja's, शासनात् at the command, प्रयागे Prayaga, अदृश्यन्त were found.

The garlands of the gods available in Chitraratha's (Kubera's) garden could not match those obtained under the orders of Bharadwaja.
बिल्वा मार्दङ्गिका आसन् शम्याग्राहा विभीतकाः।

अश्वत्था नर्तकाश्चासन्भरद्वाजस्य शासनात्।।2.91.49।।


भरद्वाजस्य at Bharadwaja's, शासनात् command, बिल्वाः bilva trees, मार्दङ्गिकाः as drummers, आसन् became, विभीतकाः vibhitaka (palm) trees, शम्याग्राहा as cymbalists, अश्वत्था pipal
trees, नर्तकाश्च as dancers, आसन् became.

At the command of Bharadwaja, bilva trees acted as drummers, vibhitaka trees as cymbalists and the pipal trees as dancers.
ततस्सरलतालाश्च तिलका नक्तमालकाः।

प्रहृष्टास्तत्र सम्पेतुः कुब्जा भूत्वाऽथ वामनाः।।2.91.50।।


ततः then, सरलतालाश्च pine and palmyra trees, तिलकाः tilaka trees, नक्तमालकाः naktamala (that bear flowers at night), प्रहृष्टाः out of great joy, कुब्जाः hunchbacked, अथ also, वामनाः dwarfs, भूत्वा तत्र सम्पेतुः taking the form moved about there.

Thereafter pine, palmyra, tilaka, and naktamala trees were transformed into hunchbacks and dwarfs and moved about in great delight.
शिंशुपामलकीजम्ब्वो याश्चान्याः काननेषु ताः

मालती मल्लिका जातिर्याश्चान्याः कानने लताः।

प्रमदाविग्रहं कृत्वा भरद्वाजाश्रमेऽवदन्।।2.91.51।।


शिंशुपामलकीजम्ब्वः ashoka and emblic myrobalan trees, काननेषु in the forest, अन्याः and other, याः those, ताः they, मालती jasmine creeper, मल्लिका mallika creeper, जातिः jati creeper, कानने in the forest, अन्याः other, याः लताः all those creepers, प्रमदाविग्रहम् taking the form of women, कृत्वा having made, भरद्वाजाश्रमे in the hermitage of Bharadwaja, अवदन् said.

Asohka, emblic myrobalan and all other trees found in the forest malati, mallika and jati creepers assumed the form of women, came over to the hermitage of Bharadwaja and said:
सुरास्सुरापाः पिबत पायसं च बुभुक्षिताः।।2.91.52।।

मांसानि च सुमेध्यानि भक्ष्यन्तां यावदिच्छथ।।2.91.53।।


सुरापाः O those of you who drink liquor, यावत् until, इच्छथ you desire, सुराः liquor, पिबत drink, बुभुक्षिताः those who are hungry to eat, पायसं च payasam (made of milk and rice), सुमेध्यानि sacred, मांसानि च meat, भक्ष्यन्ताम् let them eat.

'O wine drinkers, drink as much as you can those who are hungry partake payasam and sacred meat'.
उच्छाद्य स्नापयन्ति स्म नदीतीरेष वल्गुषु।

अप्येकमेकं पुरषं प्रमदास्सप्त चाष्ट च।।2.91.54।।


सप्त च seven or, अष्ट च eight, प्रमदाः women, एकम् one by one, पुरुषम् man, उच्छाद्य applied oil and massaged the body, वल्गुषु in the lovely, नदीतीरेषु on the banks of the river, स्नापयन्ति bathed them, स्म अपि also.

Every single warrior was attended by seven or eight women who applied oil and massaged his body and bathed him on the lovely banks of the river.
संवाहन्त्यस्समापेतुर्नार्यो रुचिरलोचनाः।

परिमृज्य तथाऽन्योन्यं पाययन्ति वराङ्गनाः।।2.91.55।।


रुचिरलोचनाः with beautiful eyes, नार्यः women, संवाहन्त्यः massaging, समापेतुः quickly approached, वराङ्गनाः best of ladies, तथा like that, परिमृज्य wiped the water, अन्योन्यम् to each other, पाययन्ति made them drink.

Some women with beautiful eyes quickly approached them for massaging. The best of ladies wiped their bodies dry and gave each other wine to drink.
हयान् गजान् खारानुष्ट्रान्तथैव सुरभेस्सुतान्।

अभोजयन्वाहनपास्तेषां भोज्यं यथाविधि।।2.91.56।।


वाहनपाः attendants of draughtanimals, हयान् horses, गजान् elephants, खरान् donkeys,
उष्ट्रान् camels, तथैव similarly, सुरभेः the Surabhi's, सुतान offsprings, यथाविधि duly, तेषाम् for them, भोज्यम् food, अभोजयन् fed.

The attendants of draughtanimals fed the horses, elephants, donkeys, camels and oxen their appropriate food.
इक्षूंश्च मधुलाजांश्च भोजयन्ति स्म वाहनान्।

इक्ष्वाकुवरयोधानां चोदयन्तो महाबला:।।2.91.57।।


महाबलाः of highly energetic attendants, इक्ष्वाकुवरयोधानाम् of the illustrious warriors of Ikshvaku race, वाहनान् the draughtanimals, चोदयन्तः provoking them to eat, इक्षूंश्च sugarcane, मधुलाजांश्च honey and parched grain, भोजयन्ति स्म were fed.

The draughtaimals of the illustrious warriors of Ikshvaku kings were urged by the highly energetic attendants to eat more and more of parched grain mixed with sugarcane and honey.
नाश्वबन्धोऽश्वमाजानान्नगजं कुञ्जरग्रहः।

मत्तप्रमत्तमुदिता चमूः सा तत्र संबभौ।।2.91.58।।


अश्वबन्धः horserider, अश्वम् horse, न अजानात् no longer recognised, कुञ्जरग्रहः mahout, गजम् elephant, न not recognised, तत्र there, सा that, चमूः whole army, मत्तप्रमत्तमुदिता fully drunk had forgotten in their joy, सम्बभौ shone.

The horserider no longer recognised the horse or the mahout the elephant and the whole army was inebriated with drinking and pleasure.
तर्पितास्सर्वकामैस्ते रक्तचन्दनरूषिताः।

अप्सरोगणसंयुक्तास्सैन्या वाचमुदैरयन्।।2.91.59।।


सर्वकामैः by all horseriders, तर्पिताः gratified, रक्तचन्दनरूषिताः smeared with red sandal paste, अप्सरोगणसम्युक्ताः surrounded by apsaras, ते सैन्याः those soldiers, वाचम् these
words, उदैरयन् exclaimed.

All the armymen with their desires gratified and anointing their bodies with red sandal paste surrounded by apsaras exclaimed.
नैवायोध्यां गमिष्यामो नगमिष्याम दण्डकान्।

कुशलं भरतस्यास्तु रामस्यास्तु तथा सुखम्।।2.91.60।।


अयोध्याम् to Ayodhya, न गमिष्यामः will not return, दण्डकान् to Danadaka forest, न गमिष्यामः will not go, भरतस्य to Bharata, कुशलम् welfare, अस्तु तथा be like this, रामस्य Rama, सुखम् happy, अस्तु will be.

We will neither return to Ayodhya, nor enter Dandaka (forest). May Bharata and Rama be happy.
इति पादातयोधाश्च हस्त्यश्वारोहबन्धकाः।

अनाथास्तं विधिं लब्ध्वा वाचमेतामुदीरयन्।।2.91.61।।


पादातयोधाश्च foot soldiers, हस्त्यश्वरोहबन्धकाः horse and elephant riders, तम् विधिम् that hospitality, लब्धवा having received, अनाथाः इति no longer recognising their leaders, एताम् such, वाचम् utterances, उदीरयन् made.

Having enjoyed the hospitality of Bharadwaja the foot soldiers, horse and elephant riders made utterances ignoring their leaders.
संम्प्रहृष्टा विनेदुस्ते नरास्तत्र सहस्रशः।

भरतस्यानुयातारस्स्वर्गोऽयमिति चाब्रुवन्।।2.91.62।।


भरतस्य Bharata's, अनुयातारः followers, ते नराः those men, तत्र there, सहस्रशः in their thousands, सम्प्रहृष्टाः highly exited with delight, विनेदुः shouted, अयम् this is, स्वर्गः heaven, इति thus, अब्रुवन् च started uttering.

The exceedingly delighted soldiers of Bharata's retinue in their thousands cried out with excitement This is the very heaven.
नृत्यन्ति स्म हसन्ति स्म गायन्ति स्म च सैनिकाः

समन्तात्परिधावन्ति माल्योपेतास्सहस्रशः।।2.91.63।।


सहस्रशः in thousands, सैनिकाः soldiers, माल्योपेताः wearing flower garlands, नृत्यन्ति स्म danced, हसन्ति स्म laughed, गायन्ति स्म sang, समन्तात् all over, परिधावन्ति ran about.

Those thousands of soldiers wearing flower garlands ran about dancing, singing, and laughing.
ततो भुक्तवतां तेषां तदन्नममृतोपमम्।

दिव्यानुद्वीक्ष्य भक्ष्यां स्तानभवद्भक्षणे मतिः।।2.91.64।।


ततः then, अमृतोपमम् like nectar, तत् अन्नम् that food, भुक्तवताम् of those who had partaken, तेषाम् for them, दिव्यान् heavenly, तान् भक्ष्यान् those eatables, उद्वीक्षय glancing, भक्षणे to partake, मतिः in their minds, अभवत् desire arose.

Glancing at the ambrosial food, a desire arose in the minds of those soldiers to eat once again although they had already partaken it.
प्रेष्याश्चेट्यश्च वध्वश्च बलस्थाश्च सहस्रशः।

बभूवुस्ते भृशं दृप्तास्सर्वे चाहतवाससः।।2.91.65।।


सहश्रसः in their thousands, प्रेष्याः messengers, चेट्यश्च maidservants, वध्वश्च female attendants, बलस्थाः army attendants, ते they, सर्वे च all of them, अहतवाससः dressed in
unworn (new) garments, भृशम् exceedingly, दृप्ताः बभूवुः felt proud of themselves.

Messengers, maidservants, female attendants, and soldiers -- all of them in their thousands dressed in fresh garments felt exceedingly proud of themselves.
कुञ्जराश्च खरोष्ट्राश्च गोऽश्वाश्च मृगपक्षिणः।

बभूवुस्सुभृतास्तत्र नान्यो ह्यन्यमकल्पयत्।।2.91.66।।


तत्र there, कुञ्जराश्च elephants, खरोष्ट्राश्च donkeys and camels, गोऽश्वाश्च cows and horses, मृगपक्षिणः beasts and birds, सुभृताः बभूवु were wellnourished, अन्यः अन्यम् one to the other, न अकल्पयत् हि did not trouble.

There the elephants, donkeys and camels, cows and horses and also beasts and birds were wellnourished. No one troubled the other.
नाऽशुक्लवासा स्तत्राऽसीत्क्षुधितो मलिनोऽपि वा।

रजसा ध्वस्तकेशो वा नरः कश्चिददृश्यत।।2.91.67।।


तत्र there, अशुक्लवासाः wearing nonwhite (dirty) dress, क्षुधितः hungry, मलिनोऽपि dirty, न आसीत् none was there, कश्चित् नरः anybody, रजसा with dust, ध्वस्तकेशो वा with decayed hair, नादृश्यत could not be seen.

In that army there was none who could be seen without wearing garments of sparkling white, who was hungry or dirty or with decayed hair.
आजैश्चापि च वाराहैर्निष्ठानवरस़ञ्चयैः।

फलनिर्यूह संसिद्दैस्सूपैर्गन्ध रसान्वितैः।।2.91.68।।

पुष्पध्वजवतीः पूर्णाश्शुक्लस्यान्नस्य चाभितः।

ददृशुर्विस्मितास्तत्रनरा लौहीस्सहस्रशः।।2.91.69।।


तत्र there, नराः men, आजैश्चापि with mutton, वाराहैश्च pork, निष्ठानवरसञ्चयैः with choicest condiments, फलनिर्यूह संसिद्दैः with various fruit juices, गन्धरसान्वितैः with fragrant and tasteful, सूपैः with soups, पूर्णाः filled with, शुक्लस्य white, अन्नस्य rice, लौहीः best of iron containers, अभितः on all sides, विस्मिताः were amazed, ददृशुः beheld.

There the soldiers beheld in amazement thousands of iron containers decked with flags and flowers and filled with white rice, mutton, pork, choicest condiments, fruit juice, fragrant and tasty soup.
बभूवुर्वनपार्श्वेषु कूपाः पायसकर्दमाः।

ताश्चकामदुघा गावो द्रुमाश्चासन्मधुश्च्युतः।।2.91.70।।


वनपार्श्वेषु along the edge of the forest, पायसकर्दमाः drink of milk and rice, कूपाः wells, बभूवुः were formed, गाव: cows, ताः those, कामदुघाः wishfulfilling, द्रुमाश्च trees, मधुश्च्युतः dripping honey, आसन् became.

Along the edge of the forest, wells were filled with thick payasam. There were wishfulfilling cows and honeydripping trees.
वाप्यो मैरेयपूर्णाश्च मृष्टमांसचयैर्वृताः।

प्रतप्तपिठरैश्चापि मार्गमायूरकौक्कुटैः।।2.91.71।।


वाप्यः wells, मैरेयपूर्णाश्च filled with datepalm liquor, प्रतप्तपिठरैः with hot pots (filled with cooked meat), मार्गमायूरकौक्कुटैः meat of peacock, chicken and deer, मृष्णमांसचयैः meat of other animals, वृताः surrounded by.

The wells were found filled with datepalm liquor and surrounded by pots of well cooked meat of peacocks, chicken and other animals.
पात्रीणां च सहस्राणि स्थालीनां नियुतानि च।

न्यर्बुधानि च पात्राणि शातकुम्भमयानि च।।2.91.72।।

स्थाल्यः कुम्भ्य करम्भ्य श्च दधिपूर्णास्सुसंस्कृताः।

यौवनस्थस्य गौरस्य कपित्थस्य सुगन्धिनः।।2.91.73।।

ह्रदाः पूर्णा रसालस्य दध्नश्श्वेतस्य चापरे।

बभूवुः पायसस्यान्ये शर्करायावसञ्चयाः।।2.91.74।।


पात्रीणाम् vessels, सहस्राणि in thousands, स्थालीनाम् plates, नियुतानि in lakhs, शातकुम्भमयानि made of gold, पात्राणि pots (cups), सुसंस्कृताः wellcleansed, स्थाल्यः earthern jugs, कुम्भ्यः jars, करम्भ्यश्च pots with a wide mouth, यौवनस्थस्य not very ripe, गौरस्य white, सुगन्धिनः of good flavour, कपित्थस्य curds of the colour of wood apple, पूर्णाः filled with, ह्रदाः tanks, रसालस्य blended with spices, श्वेतस्य white, दध्नः curds, अपरे च some more tanks, पायसस्य sweets made from milk and rice cooked together (payasam), अन्ये some other tanks, शर्करायावसञ्चयाः food prepared from barley mixed with sugar, बभूवुः were formed.

There were thousands of pots, lakhs of plates, crores of vessels -- all made of gold and filled with wellgarnished food. Curd was kept in earthern pots like jugs and jars and pots with a wide mouth. Tanks were formed, some filled with white curd of good flavour and of the colour of woodapple, some with white curd blended with spices and some with payasam and heaps of barely powder mixed with sugar.
कल्कान्चूर्णकषायांश्च स्नानानि विविधानि च।

ददृशुर्भाजनस्थानि तीर्थेषु सरतां नराः।।2.91.75।।


नराः men (soldiers), सरिताम् rivers, तीर्थेषु landing places, कल्कान् levigated powder, चूर्णकषायांश्च powder and extract, भाजनस्थानि in receptacles, विविधानि of different kinds, स्नानानि च bathing requisites, ददृशुः were seen.

The soldiers saw on the river banks at landing places levigated powder, fragrant powder and extracts and other bathing requisites of different kinds stored in receptacles.
शुक्लानंशुमतश्चापि दन्तधावनसञ्चयान्।

शुक्लांश्चन्दनकल्कांश्च समुद्गेष्ववतिष्ठतः।।2.91.76।।

दर्पणापरिमृष्टांश्च वाससां चापि सञ्चयान्।

पादुकोपानहां चैव युग्मानिच सहस्रशः।।2.91.77।।

आञ्जनीः कङ्कतान्कूर्चान् शस्त्राणि च धनूंषि च।

मर्मत्राणानि चित्राणि शयनान्यासनानि च।।2.91.78।।

प्रतिपानह्रदान्पूर्णन्खरोष्ट्रगजवाजिनाम्।

अवगाह्यसुतीर्थांश्चह्रदान् सोत्पलपुष्करान्।2.91.79।।

आकाश वर्णप्रतिमान् स्वच्छतोयान्सुखप्लवान्।

नीपवैडूर्यवर्णांश्च मृदून्यवससञ्चयान्।

निर्वापार्थान् पशूनां ते ददृशुस्तत्र सर्वशः।।2.91.80।।


ते they (soldiers), तत्र there, सर्वशः on every side, शुक्लान् pure white, अंशुमतश्चापि bristled, दन्तधावनसञ्चयान् stacks of toothbrushing sticks, समुद्गेषु in dishes made of leaves, अतिष्ठतः placed, शुक्लान् pure white, चन्दनकल्कांश्च lumps of sandal paste, परिमृष्टान् very wellcleaned, दर्पणान् च mirrors, वाससाम् clothes, सञ्चयान् चापि collection, पादुकोपानहाम् foot wear for the feet, सहस्रशः in thousands, युग्मानि च of pairs, आञ्जनीः collyrium boxes, कङ्कतान् combs, कूर्चान् brushes for cleaning moustaches, शस्त्राणि च weapons, धनूंषि च bows, मर्मत्राणानि shields, चित्राणि armours for protecting vital parts, शयनानि couches, आसनानि च seats, खरोष्ट्रगजवाजिनाम् for donkeys, camels, elephants and horses, प्रतिपानह्रदान् pools of drinking water, अवगाह्यसुतीर्थान् excellent bathing places, सोतपलपुष्करान् filled with flowering lotuses and lilies, आकाशवर्णप्रतिमान् resembling the hue of the sky (blue), स्वच्छतोयान् pure and tranparent waters, सुखप्लवान् good and comfortable tanks for swimming in, ह्रदान् lakes, पशूनाम् for animals, निर्वापार्थान् for refreshing, नीपवैडूर्यवर्णांश्च like kadamva trees as green as the sapphire, मृदून् soft, यवसञ्चयान् heaps of grass collected together, ददृशुः beheld.

There the soldiers beheld on every side stacks of toothbrushing sticks, white and bristled, white lumps of sandal paste placed in dishes made of leaves, well cleaned mirrors, collection of clothes, several pairs of footwear, collyrium boxes, combs,
brushes for cleaning moustaches, weapons, parasoles, bows and shining armour, different kinds of couches, and seats. There were pools of drinking water for donkeys, camels, elephants and horses and excellent landing places filled with flowering lotuses and water lilies. The lakes were of transparent waters resembling the hue of the sky easy and comfortable for swimming. There they saw heaps of soft grass as green as
sapphire and kadamva trees for animals to refresh themselves under.
व्यस्मयन्त मनुष्यास्ते स्वप्नकल्पं तदद्भुतम्।

दृष्ट्वाऽतिथ्यं कृतं तादृग्भरतस्य महर्षिणा।।2.91.81।।


ते मनुष्याः those men, महर्षिणा by the sage, भरतस्य to Bharata, कृतम् provided, तादृक् such, स्वप्नकल्पम् like a dream, अद्भुतम् wonderful, तत् that, आतिथ्यम् hospitality, दृष्ट्वा beholding, व्यस्मयन्त were amazed.

The men were amazed when they beheld the wonderful hospitality extended by maharshi Bharadwaja to Bharata, as if all this happened in a dream world.
इत्येवं रममाणानां देवानामिव नन्दने।

भरद्वाजाश्रमे रम्ये सा रात्रिर्व्यत्यवर्तत।।2.91.82।।


इत्येवम् like this, नन्दने in the garden of Indra, देवानामिव as for gods, रम्ये in the lovely, भरद्वाजाश्रमे in Bharadwaja's hermitage, रममाणानाम् enjoying so, सा रात्रिः that night, व्यत्यवर्तत passed off.

As they were enjoying themselves in Bharadwaja's hermitage like the gods in the garden of Indra the night wore off.
प्रतिजग्मुश्च ता नद्यो गन्धर्वाश्च यथागतम्।

भरद्वाजमनुज्ञाप्य ताश्च सर्वा वराङ्गनाः।।2.91.83।।


ताः नद्यः those rivers, गन्धर्वाश्च and the gandharvas, सर्वाः all, ताः of them, वराङ्गनाश्च lovely women too, भरद्वाजम् Bharadwaja's, अनुज्ञाप्य obtaining permission, यथागतम् from
whereever they had come, प्रतिजग्मुश्च returned.

Those rivers, the gandharvas and all those lovely women took leave of sage Bharadwaja and returned to where they had come from.
तथैव मत्ता मदिरोत्कटा नरास्तथैव दिव्यागरुचन्दनोक्षिताः।

तथैव दिव्या विविधास्स्रगुत्तमाः पृथक्प्रकीर्णा मनुजैः प्रमर्दिताः।।2.91.84।।


नराः men, मदिरोत्कटाः having consumed limitless drink, तथैव still, मत्ताः inebriated, तथैव still, दिव्यागरु smeared with divine agaru, चंदनोक्षिताः sandal fragrance, मनुजैः by people, प्रमर्दिताः wellcrushed, पृथक् helter skelter, प्रकीर्णाः strewn, दिव्याः divine, विविधाः several, स्रगुत्तमाः splendid garlands, तथैव remained so.

Even after the departure of the gandharvas the soldiers who had consumed limitless liquor were still inebriated. The divine agaru and sandalwood smeared on their bodies still remained. Several splendid garlands crushed by them were strewn all over.
इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्य अयोध्याकाण्डे एकनवतितमस्सर्गः।।
Thus ends the ninetyfirst sarga in Ayodhyakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
