[Rama explains to Vali the righteous duties of kings --- justifies his action in killing him --- Vali pleads with Rama to protect Angada]

ityuktaḥ praśritaṅ vākyaṅ dharmārthasahitaṅ hitam.

paruṣaṅ vālinā rāmō nihatēna vicētasā4.18.1৷৷

Translation

rāmaḥ Rama, nihatēna struck, vicētasā confused in mind, vālinā Vali, dharmārthasahitam righteous, hitam well-meaning, praśritam courteous, paruṣam harsh, vākyam words, iti these, uktaḥ said.

To these harsh words though seemingly well-meaning, courteous and righteous, Vali who had been mortally wounded and confused in mind, Rama replied:
